From the time he realized as a teenager that God was calling him to the mission field, Bob Mach has focused like a laser on whatever task was in front of him, before and after his arrival in west Africa. Along with his wife Becky and their four children, he has seen the Lord do miraculous things in a country overrun with false religions, Third World poverty and extreme political strife. The Mach family has been used of God to create a multi-layered ministry that is set up to continue for decades. Within these pages are just a few of their stories. If you love missionaries, this book will be a blessing to you.
Though I personally don’t know the Mach family, my husband does and was able to go on a missions trip there about 15 years ago. I really enjoyed reading about how God worked and is working in and through their ministry. It was also fun to read other accounts from mutual friends we have.
There were some editing issues—nothing extremely terrible—that would be good to review. Also, the book does jump around time wise a bit and repeat itself at times. However, even with these technical issues, It was still easy to read. I found “With a Purpose” an uplifting and Inspiring testimonial of God’s faithful and a convicting example to live fully devoted to the Lord and His work.
This book includes fascinating stories of the life of a modern-day missionary. Although I greatly enjoyed reading this book, it needs another edition to correct some basic grammar issues.
The author did well in gathering information about the Mach’s ministry. The Machs have a lot of experience to learn from. Very educational, and I’m glad that I read it. However, there was a lot of name dropping and man-worship that I found to be a bit repugnant. A lot of the author’s own biases and uninformed opinions show through. Also, it seems like this book was never proof read, and there are a couple of places where the grammar is so bad that it’s hard to decipher what the author was trying to say. If you’re just looking to learn about the Mach’s ministry, then read this book. If you’re just looking for a pleasant read, don’t read this book.
