I loved how deep we got into the prophecies behind Jesus' birth! I loved the spaces for answering (though a few weren't big enough and some were way too big for one-word answers). I wish there was just a little bit more application. But other than that, it was definitely worth the time to focus on the sacred during this entire Advent season.
Favorite quotes: “Mary responded to the message with inspiring faithfulness. Joseph responded in quiet obedience. The prophets of the past responded with a hopeful anticipation. They yet-born John responded by leaping for joy. The elderly Elizabeth responded by shouting blessings... Christmas requires of us a response.” (p. 46)
“Christmas is the proof that our God is faithful.” (p. 63)
“'But when we by faith view the Son of God being made man and lying in a manger, our vanity, ambition, and envy are checked. We cannot, with this object rightly before us, seek great things for ourselves or our children.'” (p. 70, quoting Matthew Henry)
“What looks like disappointments could be the very workings of HOPE in our lives.” (p. 82)
“For hundreds of years, there have been no prophets, no word from the Lord. Yet at this critical time in history, God raises up several to prophesy (Zechariah and Simeon), not the least of which is a woman named Anna from the little, forgotten tribe of Asher. God loves to show His greatness through the humble and lowly.” (p. 88)

Outstanding study packed full of the NT story of Jesus birth with daily references back to OT scripture of the promise God made to reconcile his people to him. So many aha moments. So much comfort and peace in our Sovereign God. It truly brought Advent as a focus on Christmas and the true meaning. It has been a long time I was so excited to celebrate the day and not be anxious about all the preparations and expectations the world sets for that day that are so unimportant when you have your eyes set on Jesus.
Beautiful advent study to focus on Christ and why He came to earth. I loved being able to see the prophesy in the Old Testament and match it with the full fulfillment in the New Testament! What a blessing to spend the intentional time study about Jesus’ birth!
Gather your girlfriends and complete this book next Christmas! God gave us old testament prophets, John, to prepare the way, a star and angels to deliver the Good News! Jesus was born so he could die for you! Perfect Advent Study!!
This is a good book. There were some confusing places in it when you had to full in a verse and you don't see the scripture reference. that is why I gave it a 4 star instead of 5.
An in depth Bible study of seeing God’s promises come to life in the birth of Jesus. Really made me appreciate Christmas more this year. Will be pulling this out at Advent in years to come.
I had a hard time getting into this one at first but I liked how it broke down the story chunk by chunk. It was what I needed to remind me why this season is important.
