5/5 ✰ - fighting dirty review 💌 + thank you so much stacey lynn for sending me this series!
most definitely my FAVOURITE in this series!
after jillian catches her fiancé cheating on her with her best friend, she’s distraught. but that doesn’t even describe how she feels when they invite her to THEIR wedding, months later. so she comes up with a plan. she’s going to fake date her guy best friend, klaus, who also happens to be a famous NHL player. what could possibly go wrong?
off the bat, i loved the plot. i’m such a sucker for fake dating but when the guy has always loved her? AMAZING. stacey lynn wrote a relationship with chemistry SO AMAZING, i was astounded.
not only that, but the writing was not only entertaining but hilarious as well!! when a book can make me giggle, smile and scream into my pillow, i KNOW it’s going to be a favourite of mine.
klaus’s character is absolutely swoon worthy. his flirty banter? his protectiveness and possessiveness ? and don’t get me started on her love for jillian 😭😭 i LOVE HIM. he deserves the world. he was so ready to deck roman at any second and i would’ve been there for it.
jillian’s character was totally relatable! even tho some of her actions annoyed me at times, in hindsight, i definitely could understand where she was coming from! she deserves the world x2!
anyways, so upset to be letting go of this series! it’s most definitely one i will consider rereading !!
My absolute favorite of the series! I LOVE Klaus and Jillian, and watching them navigate going from friends to lovers while embarking on a fake relationship was so much fun. I devoured this book in just one day I didn't want to put it down!
Klaus has liked Jillian since they met but at the time she was in a relationship and once she was available he was safely put into the friend zone so when she needs a date to her exes wedding it's the perfect opportunity for him to show her just how perfect they can be as a couple.
This story pulled me in from the very beginning and never let up, I couldn't get enough of Klaus and Jillian. I loved their friendship and the chemistry they shared was extraordinary. FIGHTING DIRTY is the fifth book in the ICE KINGS SERIES but can be read as a standalone if you choose to do so, I loved watching their friendship pop up in some of the other books, but it was never a spotlight so you will not feel as if you are missing anything if you haven't read them I just think it added to the story for me personally.
If you enjoy Sports Romances, Friends-to-Lovers Romances, or the Fake Relationship Trope I would recommend this book to you. I would also suggest you have the weekend free in order to enjoy it because if you're anything like me you won't want to put it down!
"I love the Ice Kings series. And usually by book five the series begins to wain, but honestly this one just seems to go from strength to strength. Klaus & Jillian’s romance covers a couple of tropes that I can never get enough of. So in saying that, some parts were a bit predictable but I honestly didn’t care as I am always looking forward to reading each individual authors take on it. As I am a huge fan of anything Stacey Lynn writes I’m going to be truthful and admit I knew I was going to love every last word before even reading the first sentence. Hopefully with some retirements and fresh faces on the team there will be plenty more books in the future. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book."
After reading ‘Hooked On Her’ by Stacey Lynn a little while ago, I knew I wanted to read more books in this series. So when I saw the sign-up for ‘Fighting Dirty’ I immediately signed up and got super excited when I received the ARC. Although this is book five in the Ice King series, they are all standalones and can easily be read out of order.
In ‘Fighting Dirty’ we meet Jillian and Klaus. Jillian and Klaus have been best friend for a while now, and the last few months they have been through a lot. Jillian ex-fiancé cheated on her, and Klaus has been there for her every step of the way. So when Jillian is forced to go to her ex-fiancé’s wedding, she needs a ‘fake’ boyfriend to show everyone she moved on. And Klaus is definitely the perfect one for that role. Now he can finally show his best-friend how good they would be together!
‘Fighting Dirty’ was definitely a fun and relaxing read. I always love the best-friends become lovers trope and this one was definitely one that kept me hooked right from the start. I loved the two main characters, and their chemistry was flying of the pages. Although they both where kind of blind of that fact themselves.
Klaus was the character I loved the most for sure. He is a hardworking Ice hockey player, but he is always there for his best friend. And he has been in love with Jillian for a long time now. I loved how kind and fun he was with Jillian. And honestly, everyone could see he loved her as more than a friend. Except Jillian.
Jillian’s character was also fun. I enjoyed how she was with Klaus. But the whole trip to her exes wedding, and her interactions with her family made me want to scream a little too. They were just so horrible to her, and she didn’t deserve their cruelty. I wished she would have stood up to them more. And the whole going to the wedding of her ex thing, I definitely didn’t get.
Although this book was light on the sports theme, and their wasn’t a lot of sexy times, it really was a fun read I read in one Friday night. I just simply couldn’t get enough of Jillian and Klaus, and I could have easily read longer about these two.
‘Fighting Dirty’ is a fun Contemporary Romance that makes you want to pick up more books by Stacey Lynn.
Stacey Lynn has another great Ice Kings book with Fighting Dirty! I have enjoyed this whole series, and was excited when I found out this would be a friends to more story.
Jillian and Klaus have a great friendship, but both secretly want more. When she needs a date to an ex-boyfriend's wedding, Klaus steps up and agrees to go with her as her fake boyfriend. He sees it as his chance to show her they could be so much more.
They had so much chemistry from the beginning, and it was sweet seeing Klaus try to show Jillian how good they would be together. I thought the changes in their relationship were nicely paced and didn't feel rushed.
This is book five in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading the others so you can meet the rest of the Ice Kings!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Man, I flew through this one! And it wasn't even a short one. I just couldn't stop reading once I started reading Jillian and Klaus' story. You will fall in love with these two just like you fell in love with the previous couples😂
Jillian is invited to her ex's wedding which her parents are hosting. She didn't want to face her family and her ex alone, so Klaus volunteered to go with her and act as if they are in a relationship. They both had a crush on each other and were both clueless about each other's feelings. Klaus thought the weekend would be perfect to make her understand his feelings for her and that this is real for him.
This was definitely a quick, sexy, and fun read. This is one of those books that will have you smiling and swooning throughout.
Klaus has been in love with his best friend Jillian for years. Unknown to him, Jillian is also crushing on her best platonic male friend. Both think the other has friend zoned them so neither has dared to make a move. That’s about to change though. Jillians ex is getting married and he’s that classy kind of guy that sends his ex an invite. Obviously she can’t go alone (I get it, I really do because I wouldn’t ) and who better to ask to be her fake boyfriend than Klaus. Could this be the chance he’s been waiting for to move them out of the friend zone?
Klaus is without a doubt my favourite! He had me falling for him from the start. Seriously this guy is pretty much perfect. I’m sat trying to find one fault and I’m coming up blank. He is the perfect book boyfriend. Jillian is another great character, although she did frustrate me towards the end of the book, she’s very easy to like.
I love this series. I’m a huge fan of hockey romances and this series has quickly become one of favourites. I can’t recommend these books enough and each one can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend this book.
First, can be get a standing ovation for these covers please? *clap* *clap* *clap* They have been #lickable from the start and they continue to make my girlie parts smile!
Now, this.story! A more incredibly fun friends to more story I have not read in quite some time. It was delightful! These two had spark! Their friendship sparked and when it moved along to more, it sparkled! If you enjoy reading friends to more stories, this is one you will not want to miss!
I loved Fighting Dirty. I couldn't get enough of Klaus and Jillian. They have such a sweet friendship that you can feel the growth of more. I love how Klaus balances Jillian as she faces the dreaded trip home. Klaus is sweet and sexy. Jillian is just wonderful and I love how she finally opens up to her parents. Nana will have you giggling out loud. I just loved this friends to more read so much. If you haven't read any one the Ice Kings series yet you need to.
When Jillian, Klaus' best friend, needs him to be her fake boyfriend while attending her cheating ex's wedding, Klaus has zero hesitation when saying yes. The weekend will be the perfect time to tell her that he's been in love with her for years. Does Jillian feel the same? Will she open up her heart again, even with the possibility of getting her heart broken and losing her best friend?
This has been such a great hockey series, and Fighting Dirty just kept up the momentum. Friends to lovers can be tricky to write, but Stacey did an excellent job because Klaus and Jillian were so entertaining, having the kind of easy familiarity that only long-time best friends have, with the added electric chemistry that only the hottest couples have. I might have wanted to shake Jillian a time (or two or three) when she wimped out and hurt them both, but I could understand where she was coming from, considering her lack of a strong, loving parental unit, but in the end, love won out. But really, the very best part of Fighting Dirty is Klaus. He is so freaking sweet and swoony, and beyond sexy to boot, endlessly patient with Jillian's insecurities, and her emotional and physical rock. He's the stuff romance (and hockey player) dreams are made of.
Klaus has been her friend for a few years now and for most of that time she has wished that he could be more, but he has never given her any indication that he wants more from her. So she has kept her crush on him under wraps and settled for being his running buddy.
With her ex's wedding approaching she has been summoned home to North Carolina by her mother. Her presence is requested at his wedding and she must attend to keep up appearances, even though their history isn't so great. The past doesn't matter to her mother, or the fact that he broke her heart, she is just expected to get over it and show up. But going to his wedding alone doesn't sound all that fun so she decides to enlist the help of her best friend Klaus. Taking him will keep her mother off her back about dating, and tick off her ex by making him think she has moved on... it's a perfect plan!
But little does she know, that's not all that Klaus has planned for their weekend together...
Fighting Dirty is a wonderfully penned friends-to-more romance that comes brimming with everything necessary to score big points with your heart! These two were perfect on the page, their personalities complimented one another nicely, they brought so much life to the pages. I loved watching them take their friendship into uncharted territories and discover all that they had been missing by keeping things platonic. What started as a weekend disaster for Jillian quickly became something else entirely for her, Klaus helped her face her fears, deal with her overbearing family, and find love again. It was such a fun story to read, each page held something that touched my heart, made me smile, or had me swooning... it was quite the delightful little reading escape! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
“I’ll give you anything you want, whenever you want it.”
The only reason this book got two stars is the fact I’m sad this series has come to an end. I really enjoyed these short books that had adorable romance in it as it was the palate cleanser I needed between heavy fantasies.
I loved this at the start. It was on track for being my favourite out of the series but the last 20% boiled my blood and I can’t overlook the problems that arose.
Jillian? A stupid, MORONIC, painstakingly absorbed character that I despised. How dare she get annoyed at Klaus saying he was just a friend when she said it first? She claims her mother was self absorbed but clearly it’s her— she pushed me over the edge when she then lied about not loving Klaus when he asked for a direct answer.
The fast switch up of her mother and father? How the hell did that happen? If it was a small build up it would have made more sense but having them go from cold to loving and doting just through a wall in their development.
Honestly? A disappointing end. I’d happily reread this series and skip over this sad, drawn out book if it meant my brain was saved from whatever shitshow this was.
Jillian has accepted that she has to attend her ex-fiance’s wedding to her ex-best friend but she isn’t prepared to face the pitying looks from all her friends and family by going alone. She needs an escort and Klaus is the perfect man for the job.
Klaus is more than happy to escort Jillian to the wedding, but he isn’t about to let the opportunity go to waste. He has always thought of Jillian as more than a friend and he is planning on using this time to convince her to make their fake relationship very real.
Hot chemistry, witty banter and all the feels as this sweet and swoony hockey player is determined to claim the woman he has always wanted and although she was a little late to the game she more than made up for it.
This is the first book that I've read by Stacey Lynn and basically, I decided to read it because the blurb caught my attention and surprisingly, it was very enjoyable. I'm a sucker for unrequited love & best friends to lovers trope, so this book is a major win for me.
Now, this book is about a hockey player named Klaus who has been in love with his best friend Jillian for years. Same goes to Jillian where she also developed the same feeling for him. However, both of them think that the other person does not share the same feeling and they have been friend-zoned each other ever since. Then, Jillian was invited to her ex' wedding so she decided to ask Klaus to be her fake boyfriend and that was when everything started to bloom.
Now, let me just say that this book is actually pretty light because there wasn't too much drama and even the characters are just very wholesome. Just by reading every chapter, we can truly see how much they truly liked each other and even their chemistry are undeniable. I seriously adore the interactions between these two because both of them are pretty sweet and the way they treated each other got my heart burst into rainbows. However, Jillian got on my nerves (just a little bit) towards the end of the book because I think her action is a bit unnecessary but still tolerable.
Overall, this book is extremely adorable and enjoyable for me. I seriously think that Stacey has done a great job in delivering Klaus & Jillian's story. Therefore, if you want to read something light that will get you hooked from the first page, then I truly recommend you to read this book because it's totally worth it!
I’m torn between this being my favorite out of the series or the original story of Jude and Katie that got me to fall in love with this series. But man was this a good final book. Although I still hope it’s not the last I’ll read about the ice kings.
2.5* On paper this should have worked for me... But somehow, somehow it didn't. I can't even pinpoint the reason. The main character is an idiot. And here is why: 🚩Her fiance cheated on her with her best friend, but later we get to know that she was half in love with her male best friend. Like miss, I'm pretty sure that's emotional cheating. So you cheated on your boyfriend first (?) 🚩She told her friend that she and the love interest were friends on the morning after they were intimate. But somehow has the audacity to be be angry and block him out after he confirms what she said because he didn't want to contradict her(?) 🚩From the moment they met, he was in love with her. Or so he says. But he is then seen lusting after her body and is horny after seeing her jog. ( this was a weekly event between them) I don't know about everyone else but I would really be uncomfortable to learn that one of my friends has been in love with me from the moment I met. Like that somehow invalidates the whole friendship. Was the friendship a lie? Was it a means to an end?
So I guess I could pinpoint the reasons why I didn't like it.
In book 5 of Stacey Lynn’s Ice Kings series we get a beautiful friends to love book. Klaus and Jillion have been friends for years. He watcher her go through a cheating ex and parents that are less than loving. Will she ever give him the chance he wants to be so much more?
The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for my best friend. Like, hide the fact I’ve been in love with her for years. Or agree to be her fake boyfriend when we have to return to her hometown for her exes wedding. Little does Jillian know this is what I’ve been waiting for.
It’s a dream come true. I finally get to touch her and love her in all the ways I’ve been dying to show her. For one weekend only, she’s mine, even if she thinks it’s fake. Pretending to love her is easy. I want her to be mine forever.
Getting Jillian to admit it’s what she wants too, is another thing. On or off the ice, I have no problems fighting dirty to get what I want. But this is one fight I might just lose.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
I always enjoy a good friends-to-lovers romance, and this book does not disappoint.
Jillian and Klaus have been friends for years. There has always been a more than friendly attraction, but they never entertained the thought, because Jillian was in a long-term relationship, and Klaus was keeping busy with casual dalliances. She has now been single for a while, but neither of them has found the courage yet to take their friendship further.
Jillian is pressured by her parents to attend the wedding of her ex to the former best friend he cheated on her with. She really doesn't want to go, but figures if she must, she'd better bring an extremely hot date. Enter Klaus. He is more than happy to help her out, figuring it might give him the opening he needs.
Now, a lot of the conflict in this book comes from assumptions and lack of communication. This is true for Jillian's relationship with her parents – strained, to say the least – as much as whatever's happening with Klaus. Jillian is over her ex, as the weekend proves, but the humiliation of the situation still lingers. Klaus, however, isn't entirely sure yet that she's over him, so he emphasizes his role to make her ex jealous. So while they're both eager to explore things further, they're sending each other mixed signals. Jillian's anxiety around her parents doesn't help. So, while “miscommunication” as a tool isn't new, the way it's employed in this book fits the story.
I like how Jillian gets to grow in her relationship with her parents. They all realize they need to work on it, and set out to do just that. It's heartwarming to observe. Klaus knows that he wants more from Jillian, but knows her well enough to realize she needs to see this in her own time – if perhaps with a little nudge.
This book is the 5th in the Ice Kings series, and if you've read the previous ones, you'll be happy to see some familiar characters. But if you're new to this author or series, it can be read as a standalone. If you like sports romance and friends-to-lovers, I can definitely recommend this book!
I do love a good hockey series, and Klaus is one of the swooniest of hockey heroes I have come across in a while. Fighting Dirty is one of those books that brings all the sighs. Jillian is a wonderfully strong woman to get to know who is also bound by those southern traditions that still rule in society.
But let's start at the beginning, holy hockey team, they are in Charlotte!! I do love finding an author who is here in my town and writes about things happening here. So Jillian's marketing firm has been working with the Ice Kings, which is how our couple knows each other. They have become very close--well, let's be honest, Klaus is in love with Jillian and is waiting to make his move. Jillian is coming off being cheated on by her fiance and finds that she now has to attend his wedding (southern tradition and social graces demand it--also known as Jillian's mother). Klaus is going as Jillian's fake boyfriend to provide support; however, Klaus sees this as his opportunity to win Jillian.
What we get is more of a story than the blurb, or first impressions imply. We get more into the nitty-gritty of what has shaped Jillian's somewhat dysfunctional upbringing. We read Jillian's fear of the feelings she feels for Klaus. We get the romantic Klaus as he tries to get Jillian to see how much he cares. Jillian's parents and her grandmother finally open up about why they treat Jillian the way they do.
It is a lovely story where we ultimately get the HEA, and it is a HEA for Klaus, Jillian, and her family. Thank you, Stacey, for allowing there to be a healing of the family in the book. I will say again, Klaus is one of the swooniest hockey heroes I have ever met, and this was a delightful story from beginning to end and had me rooting for this couple all the way through. Yay for hockey in Charlotte!!
Klaus, a member of the California Ice Kings, has been best friends with Jillian the last several years. They have several of the same friends, interests, etc. Klaus has also been in love with Jillian since the day they met, but the timing was always off. It didn’t change his feelings though. When Jillian is backed into the corner and expected to make an appearance at her ex-fiancé’s wedding, she asks Klaus to be her “fake” boyfriend. He jumps at the chance to finally show Jillian that they could be so much more than friends—the timing is perfect!
Jillian grew up in an emotionally neglected home. She was the only child, born into wealth and Charleston society. There were expectations. But Jillian was never one to bow down to her parents. She left for college and never looked back. Now her parents are hosting her ex’s wedding rehearsal and she’s expected to be there. Her parents are secretly hoping she’ll forgive her cheating ex and stop the wedding. So Jillian asks her best friend, who she’s secretly crushed on for a few years, to be her “fake” boyfriend. Little does she know that Klaus is “ALL IN” and will do anything to prove to Jillian they are perfect for each other—while rubbing it in her ex’s face that she’s found love elsewhere.
This was the BEST book EVER!!! This was the 5th book in the series and probably the best! I LOVED Jillian’s grandma. She was lively, spirited, and REAL—a lot like Jillian. She spoke her mind and didn’t hold anything back. I loathed Julianna! She was pure evil! I laughed, cried, and rooted for Klaus to get his HEA. I want a Klaus! I enjoyed the dynamics in the relationships between the mothers and daughters. Family is hard work! Lastly, I loved how the story ended. Must read! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Fighting Dirty is the fifth book in the Ice Kings series by Stacey Lynn. Each book is a stand-alone, so you can just immediately jump into this one. Personally, I would recommend starting the series from the beginning because all books are good and I wouldn't want you missing the fun.
Friends to lovers is one of my top genres and I had a blast with this book. Our main characters are Klaus and Jillian. They have been friends for a while and they had feelings for each other before this book began but they never acted on it. Jillian was in a relationship, so Klaus kept his distance, and when she broke up with him he was bidding his time. Jillian didn't want to act on her feelings because she didn't want to ruin her friendship with him. When she needs a fake boyfriend Klaus jumps into the opportunity to prove to her how good they can be together and he is willing to fighting dirty (sorry couldn't resist it).
I had a very good time reading the book and it would have been perfect if I wasn't fantasizing about smacking some sense into Jillian. She was very indecisive and she wasn't willing to take on the chance of being with Klaus as his girlfriend despite the fact that she wanted to be with him. That back and forth killed me. Klaus wasn't even overly pushy and was trying to show her that he wanted more for the whole book.
The rest of the book was good and I liked Jillian for most of it. Klaus was a good hero that's hard not to (at least) like. At a point, I wished that he had gone a little harder on the whole "making Jillian know that he is mine", but overall he is one of the best heroes I read about this year.
This story has a little bit of everything - best friends, fake relationship, and sports romance. I love Klaus and Jillian. They have a great friendship, an easygoing camaraderie, and off the charts chemistry that they try to keep under wraps. Klaus agrees to play Jillian’s fake boyfriend at a family wedding. He thinks this may be the time to make his move. Even though Jillian keeps her walls firmly around her heart after a bad breakup, he believes he is man enough to break them down! I was rooting for him all the way! Klaus is a strong sexy alpha with a caring and compassionate side, while Jillian is a strong independent woman who has forged a great life for herself. This book is written in dual POV which allows the reader better insight to each of the main characters thoughts, feelings, and their driving motivations. Lynn built the tension between Klaus and Jillian and brought the heat when they finally gave in to temptation. Although their road to HEA was a little rocky, the conclusion of their love story was sweet and a little corny, which I loved. There were some great secondary characters who I loved, and some that I loved to hate - but these characters (especially Nana) really enhanced the story! This was an entertaining, fun, easy read and a great addition to the Ice Kings series. I’m a sucker for ice hockey sports romances and this is a must if you enjoy that trope!
I am completely in love with this book. Despite it being the first time reading from Stacey Lynn, I was completely enamored with her story. This is a light, fun, and sweet sports romance about two best friends to lovers who pretend to date for an ex's wedding. They were already half in love with each other in the first place so the story revolves around them realizing their true feelings for each other.
I love Klaus and Jillian's relationship in this story, there's nothing they wouldn't do for each other and over the course of the book only solidifies their romantic relationship as well as their friendship. He was sweet on her and she of him. There are moments in this book where I felt literal butterflies on my stomach. It just made me so happy inside.
Aside from the romantic plot, I also enjoy reading the unraveling and the recovering relationship between Jillian and the women in her lives. Each has a solid view to take into consideration and we get to see how they slowly open up to each other instead of brushing it off aside. To me, this is a truly surprising gem. Fair warning, given the tropes above, this story relies heavily on the 'miscommunication' plot but it doesn't bother me as much because it was definitely worth to see them get their HEA.
I would definitely read more from this author and this series!

Klaus and Jilly-Bean were great as friends, but they were superb as more. When she asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend so she doesn’t have to go to her ex-fiancé’s wedding alone, he vows to use the weekend to finally get her for the rest of his life. Little do either know, they both are in love with each other already. When they get to her parent’s house, things are strained. She has never felt like her parents love her and they always side with her ex. The banter and romantic moments between Klaus and Jillian are sweet and make it hard to not fall in love with Klaus. So many family secrets are revealed and have the chance to change their (her and her parents’) relationship forever. Her ex fiancé and friend are both horrible people, in my opinion. He finally tells her he doesn’t want to pretend and she agrees. I absolutely adored how he supported her but pushed her at the same time. I also liked how he was willing to walk away if she really wanted him to. My heart broke when he confronted her after the wedding (I was actually irritated with her for not talking to him to find out what happened). I think this is my favorite of the series and I can’t wait for more. Ms. Lynn has a way of digging deep into the characters souls to find the deepest part of them. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

Jillian Stearns is heading back to her family home for the wedding of her ex-fiancé and ex-best friend. However, she isn’t heading back home alone. She is going with her best friend and professional hockey player Klaus Newman.
Klaus Newman realizes this is the opportunity he has always wished for, the chance to prove to Jillian that they can be together as a couple. Things won’t get weird between and that they may be each other’s HEA. Though Klaus has his work cut out for him, as he has his girls ex-fiancé, and her family may not exactly want the two of them together.
First off, she is a better person than me cause I wouldn’t have cared what my parents thought. I wouldn’t have gone at all to my exes wedding. Just a heck no, but Jillian is a different breed. One who has been through a lot and knows she deserves better. Oh, buddy, does she get better. I love the things Jillian learns about her mother and grandmother. She realizes no one person is perfect, no matter how much she thought they were. Klaus, oh my Lordy Klaus. He is something else. I love how he isn’t afraid to take some of the most significant risks in his life on the one person he has secretly loved.
A friends to lovers romance that has hockey players in it? Sign me up. Playing Dirty is the fifth book in the Ice Kings series. It can be read as a stand-alone.
We meet Klaus and Jillian who have been friends for years. Nothing has ever come from their friendship because Jillian had been in a relationship. When she finds her boyfriend cheating on her with one of her friends, they’re done. And to really stick it to her, they invite her to their wedding. Her best friend convinces her to bring Klaus as her date and to be her fake boyfriend.
I loved the friendship between Jillian and Klaus. It was so genuine and it felt so natural for their relationship to develop to more. I’ve read some books where it just didn’t feel right and this one absolutely did. Klaus was a gentleman but also a fierce protector. Jillian was quirky and smart with a big heart even if she was confused at what she wanted. I can’t forget to mention how much I love that the team members are so close. They really are all like a family which is how hockey teams are like in real life.
I already can’t wait to read the next book in the series. There’s nothing like spending the day reading a hockey romance book until hockey comes on that day.
This is book 5 in the series but it easily stands alone. I have not read this entire series, just a few books in it when a couple intrigues me. I really was attracted to this story because it features a best friends to more storyline with the heroine going to her exes wedding and a fake romance relationship with her bestie.
Jillian and Klause have been really great friends for 4 years. They run together, hang out, even have sleepovers but have never even kisses romantically. When they met she was engaged to her long time boyfriend and family friend, Roman until he broke her heart by cheating with her former rival/friend from back home.
Jillian has been getting over Roman until her parents insist she attend Roman's wedding and Klause wants to help his best friend and if they do a fake relationship, maybe she will fall as hard for him as he has for her. And so starts Klauses 3 day play for Jillian's heart.
This was a really fun and romantic story. I adored their friendship and how close they are and how he helps her make Roman so jealous and the ex best friend. I also loved how Jillian faces her past and decides on what she wants her future to be.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a fun friends to lovers read! I loved Klaus and Jillian and the Ice Kings series is one of my all time favorites.
Klaus and Jillian have been friends for a while. When they first met, Jillian was in a serious relationship while Klaus was playing the field. But as the years progressed Jillian broke up with her fiancee and Klaus started to realize that he really like Jillian more than just friends. But he stepped back letting Jillian take the reins as far as where their relationship was going. And she seemed to be okay with remaining in the friend zone, so Klaus went along with it all.
But things changed when Jillian asked Klaus to pretend to be her boyfriend over a weekend that found her going back home for the wedding of her ex fiancee. Klaus saw this as his opportunity to show Jillian just how awesome he would be as her boyfriend for real.
I absolutely adored Klaus. He was witty, sexy and fun. He is definitely the calm to Jillian's storms. Jillian is a strong heroine who knows what she wants, just needs a little help in pushing her in the right direction. Stacey does a great job on getting the reader invested in the characters from the get go. Once I picked up the book I didn't want to put it down. I can't wait for more from this series!
