BE STILL MY HEART THIS WAS SO CUTE!!

I had read some of this online and remembered I had deeply enjoyed it, but I was surprised by reading the full volume and how fast-paced it was?? Or maybe it always was and I just forgot??

But ultimately what may come across as a "shallow" manga of Sana only loving Kanato's handsome face, I was very surprised (and touched!) at how quickly she came to realize how hurtful her actions could come across in not treating Kanato as a "real" human. You can see very early on how the title is playing a role in this story, which I loved and deeply appreciated! Did it maybe happen too fast? Yeah, I would say it did, but I felt myself excited and eager to keep reading because I knew where the direction was going and was excited to see everything unfold!

I think the biggest surprise though was Kanato's personality! I agree with Sana that he comes across as not caring, but seems to get jealous and can be clingy. I was caught off guard by how assertive and almost possessive-like he was at one point! I also thought words didn't affect him at first, but throughout the course of the volume, you can really see how his expressions soften due to how Sana is REALLY seeing him, concerns and all. I loved it!

And speaking of Sana, she is a wonderful heroine, and laughed so much at her way of thinking and her expressions! She has been a blast to follow and am already loving how she is growing in this first volume alone!

Overall, I am so so so thankful we got this in print! It is sure to be a really fun series and I'm excited to read more!

Wow, social media seems annoying.
It is. It’s like hemorrhoids, but worse.

An interesting take on your typical shojo, tweaked for the modern age. In another novel little twist, the girl is the more shallow of the two and the guy is both hot and yet also something more than that.

Sana has a fun meet-cute with Kanato, who is verging on the edge of expulsion, that sees her taking over her school’s social media with the mandate to use Kanato’s looks to make the school itself more popular.

And she’s the perfect pick for the task, as she’s obsessed with handsome guys and their looks. She’s very happy to bask in the radiance of Kanoto’s face, which is exactly what he doesn’t care for. He just wants a normal life that his looks preclude him from having.

The conceit of Sana having to photograph Kanoto for ‘work’ lets her get much closer to him than she realizes, especially once he begins to take an interest in her. It’s also a clever enough way to keep tossing them into various scenarios that feels a touch less rote than usual.

This is therefore mildly interesting, though its emotional core is a little more muddled than I would have liked. The romance is pleasant enough, lots of those moments and all that. Sana doesn’t think she needs anything more than Kanoto’s face, while he wants her to see him as more than that.

It’s really coasting on its vibes than saying anything deep - the mangaka says that this is their first full-on romance and it kind of shows. The rich characterization of some of the classics is not to be found here.

These two have chemistry, but their personalities are, ironically, more surface level than I typically want from a manga. That one sentence I used two paragraphs ago is pretty much all the development you’re getting. The romance is the star, not the characters.

But, for what it appears to be going for, dating and heart-pounding youth? Sure, it’s good enough. I like the two of them together, complaints about the thin characterization aside, and they make an agreeable pairing.

It passes the main test - I enjoyed this and would read more. It’s not going to go down as one for the ages, but watching them pal around is an acceptable way to spend some reading time.

3 stars - good enough, which means your own interest may vary. A shojo that has a reasonably chill romance, provided one can handle the mostly ‘what you see is what you get’ nature of the leads.

Behind that beautiful face is a real person's misery.

I like how the series tackles how we take for granted everything beautiful, and striking in the eye, and shove it aside when finding even the tiniest fault. Thinking they should be perfect. It indeed is human nature to be attracted to anything that is eye-candy. And this series didn't fail to let us see the angle that is hidden from the human eye. The vulnerability, and misery within. And I couldn't agree more, because I already heard the same story like this from a college friend of mine—and how they were treated like after getting to know their incapabilities. It's saddening to think that this is how our society thinks, but it is the truth. That society holds expectations from certain faces. What, like we're doomed as failures if we're ugly? Only the beautiful people can taste all the lixury in life? Now, that's messed up. But it is happening.

But, the reason why I couldn't give it the other star is that senpai is too touchy. There's a lot of shoving down, cornering around that is happening, and I'm feeling like: Okay I'm back to that typical shoujo that makes my eyes hurt. I mean, I like my girls strong, so I hope to witness this girl's character arc get on the path I want it to go. But since I really like the premise, I'll go along and finish what I started.

This book was so bad. I have no further elaboration, except for the fact that I do. This book is so self indulgent, poorly paced, and stereotypical. It’s a rom com drama with a pretty guy and a self insert girl!! I’m not so pathetic as to degrade myself to reading this filth anymore. Reading this manga probably cost me 100 days sermons, it’s so disgusting. The pacing is so poor I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to jump cut to marriage. You have more personal value than to be reading this

Though it has a set up that doesn't make a lot of sense, this is still a fun read. Sana is a fun character, filled with so much energy that it becomes very easy to like her. And while Kanato is a bit more mysterious, it's clearly by choice, and his "true" self is both awkward and flirtatious. They make a very cute pairing.

I actually finished this book on August 13, but I didn't shelve it as finished reading until now because I wanted to review it but I didn't have time to write a review until now.

This series sounded fun and interesting to me, but after reading vol. 1, it was ok but I was also kind of annoyed by the main character because she's almost as annoying as he TikTok "influencers" are. I knew it was focused on taking photos and social media, but my God Sana is too much. She's also so shameless that she's not afraid to admit her creepy obsession with the male lead's (who's name I have forgotten, I'm usually pretty good at remembering anime and manga character names but maybe because this isn't a 4+ star read and because I didn't get attached to any of the characters is probably why I don't remember his name, I'm surprised I remember the female lead's name) face. Wouldn't it be seen as really creepy if it was the other way around? Just saying. While I do love some shameless characters (like Wei Wuxian from Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Feng Xiao from Peerless), I couldn't feel the same for her, I don't hate her, but I also don't love her either. Maybe it's because I've only read vol. 1 so far or maybe she really is that shallow, I don't know yet. It's fine to look at pretty people online and admit you like doing that (I love looking at good looking anime characters, although I don't think that's creepy because they're not real people), but I would never admit that to that specific person unless I was really close with that person, but even then it's creepy and embarrassing. Her life seems sad and boring because that is her only hobby, at one point the guy takes her phone away for a bit because he knows that all she's going to do is keep taking photos of him instead of just hanging out with him (I can understand his frustration) and she thinks "my phone is pretty much the reason for my entire existence as a person," girl get a life!😑 The even sadder and thing is that this is the case for a lot of people nowadays: cell phone and online shopping, ugh.
There's also a scene where a classmate asks her if she's tired of looking at the main lead and instead of being smart asking him something along the line of, "what are you talking about?" or "I was deep in thought and probably spaced out" or "why were you looking at me for for that long?" anything but what she actually said, which is "How do you know about that?!" I see this with so many characters in books and shows and it's always so frustrating. You're never supposed to admit it right away!🤦‍♀️

As for the male lead, I don't have much opinion on him yet. When it comes to male main characters and real life men, I like smart or at least average smarts (basically not dumb). That doesn't mean taht I can't like a dumb male main character, I do have some favourites (like Rintaro from Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity but he's only dumb when it comes to school, I don't think he's dumb in general, and I love Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail, he's just so lovable), but they also have interesting and fun personalities, while I don't know much about this guy and he just seems like your average shojo main love interest, nothing crazy, nothing that sets him apart for me yet.

I like the art style, it's pretty and colourful, but that's not enough to make me love a series.

I do plan on continuing reading the series but I won't be buying it because I didn't like vol. 1 enough. If vol. 2 and 3 are still meh, then I might dnf the series. There are so many books and tv shows I want to read and watch that I don't have time to waste it on so-so series/series that I'm not that into.

It took two tries to finish reading this manga series through the English (fan)translation, but I was determined to read what's available because I love the character face designs. Their faces are drawn beautifully, and I love Kanato Senpai's turquoise hair so much! The overall art is lovely, my only complaint are the proportions and angles of Kanato's neck, and every now and again his arms are posed in a strange way that makes them seem abnormally short. I don't know how important that is to other readers, but the art of a manga is a top priority for me, so sometimes these aesthetic choices drew me out of the story.

Now, to address the actual story itself. I had a very difficult time relating to the characters and getting into the story for the first 3 or so volumes. Being an amateur photographer with a focus on the human subject myself, I thought I would relate to our female lead Sana a lot more than I did. The character comes off to me as very shallow and boy crazy, which just isn't my thing. I love beautiful faces too, but I never experienced this in such an intense and hyper focused way. Rather, when I see a beautiful face photoshoot ideas blossom in my mind. For me, it's usually concepts, clothing ideas, backdrops, all relating to a story or a surrealist image. For Sana, she just gets super hyped about, "He's so beautiful! Absolute perfection! A gift to humanity!" and never really goes any further. I would have enjoyed her enthusiasm a lot more if she had focused on creating art through the medium of photography of beautiful faces rather than just focusing on her obsession with the person's face. The first 3 or so volumes focus on this obsession of hers, and I felt like they lacked true depth of character.

Similarly, we're told through her perspective how Kanato Senpai feels rather than really seeing it for ourselves. He's mostly the stoic quiet type that avoids people and doesn't say much, but we're told through Sana's thoughts and words that this quiet nature is loneliness and depression. I would rather have seen him express these thoughts through words and actions beyond just being expressionless and quiet. To me, he felt less like he had a personality than any other character in the series. Even the second male lead (non-romantic) has more obvious character depth. Doigaki-Kun's reason for admiring Sana is well explained and makes sense, and we see through action his character develop and face his feelings head-on.

Around volume 4 the actual romance begins, which I did enjoy. Though, to be honest, it felt a bit unnatural. Although I like Sana well enough, I would not fall in love with someone that was obsessed with me primarily for my physical appearance. The author tried to convey that Sana saw beyond just his looks and had a greater understanding of him as a real person than anyone else, but in my opinion that's not really how it comes off to me despite Sana's explanation of his feelings. It all felt like it was coming from the author's intentions rather than the character interactions. Still, I like the art and I think the characters romantic interactions are very pretty and cute, so I still enjoyed the story overall. Would I read the series again? Probably not. Will I pick up where I left off when the next volume comes out? Most likely, yes. Here's hoping the character development gets better!!

I did in fact have to drop this at some point.. it wasn’t bad but it definitely wasn’t good. The whole starting plot is very long so I won’t go into detail, but he owns the schools social media account, which he needs to get a set amount of followers in order to not be expelled (I don’t know the exact number because there was a translation issue and it kept putting different numbers but somewhere in the tens of thousands at least) and she is the manager of the page. This is the kind of modern shoujo which has the exact mc as every other modern shoujo, (not exactly same this time but vaguely similar personality, and bangs with shoulder length hair, paired with one single personality trait that makes the ml like them. In this case it’s the fact she really likes pretty faces). He has a really pretty face, she gets flustered by him literally just breathing and it’s really annoying. My first issue is that they just don’t go together very well, because the whole point of his character is that he is always being fawned over and he has a bunch of like fangirls and all that, so he doesn’t like girls like that and wants to be loved for his personality, but then the point of her character is that she loves pretty faces and she is one of his biggest fan girls… and then they get together.??? Right haha….. 😥 anyways they try to play it off like “oh she likes his personality too!” but she only ever compliments his face and is completely obsessed with it. Also the whole relationship she is very blushy at literally everything and can barely handle being around him without getting a heart attack, and she also still goes crazy when she sees another guys face and it feels like micro-cheating. This manga also helped me realize why I had a problem with a lot of modern shoujo mcs other than the stereotype I explained earlier. At some point during the series they hit their follower goal and then they think they’re gonna stop working together.. and she is like “what’s the point of my life if I amn’t his photographer. This kind of put it together for me… because like, most of these mcs have had no point of living up until when the story starts, and it just makes them so insufferable. Like I love watching a good love story, but your partner should not be the only major life event you’ve experienced. I dropped this story around when we got this back flash, where she’s walking to school on the first day and she’s like “I can’t believe I’m going to walk the same halls as this guy” and it tries to dramatize the story and make it more deep, but because the character has no real character other than being there to be with him, it just doesn’t really work. 2 for not being the worst I’ve ever read and for not disappointing me too much, probably because with the title I could already tell it wouldn’t be that good.

Having read all six volumes that are out, my review of just volume one may be biased, but I truly love this series!

I’ll start with a few things I didn’t care for though. It is definitely a silly premise where the female lead (FL) is worshipping the male lead (ML) as an idol for his looks, and the two are brought together by the principal demanding the ML grow the school’s social media account or be suspended.

The FL is pretty clueless about the ML’s advances and blatant signs of affection which can be frustrating along with the ML’s overall apathetic personality. In addition, the two are in high school and so you see some of the high school romance manga troupes come up.

That being said, I still adored the series. The art is stunning! I found myself taking picture after picture of panels because I loved the poses, expressions, and outfits! Not only that, but it has done great so far in the romance department. The ML is not afraid to be flirty so you get to see so many adorable scenes between the two that give all the warm and fuzzy feelings.

All in all, I’m sure it isn’t a series for everyone, but I enjoyed it and hope others do as well so it can get the attention it deserves! <3

This is an adorable manga. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for volume 2. I enjoy the cute premise of Sana helping Kanato stay in school by getting 100,000 followers and thus in their endeavors to do this they grow closer together. I like how blunt Sana is about what she likes and how she feels about Kanato. There’s not a lot of reluctancy between the two of them and I enjoy it. But there’s still this build up to something more which keeps me hanging on every page!
