Can you fall in love while operators are standing by? Kevin’s a widower doctor with a precocious 12-year-old. He’s just met Mary, his daughter’s substitute teacher, who is experiencing her first Christmas without her beloved mother. As the holiday season ramps up, the twosome is unaware they’re also both in hot pursuit of a limited edition poinsettia angel being sold on their favorite television shopping channel.
For those seeking a Christmas rom-com that leaves you feeling merry and bright.
I always appreciate a full cast produced audiobook. 🤗 It’s a great way to bring real life into a story. With Christmas quickly approaching, I’m squeezing in some quick/cute/holiday books. 🎅🏻🎄 This is reminiscent of “Sleepless in Seattle”- definitely a Hallmark Christmas movie feel. ❤️📚
What's it about? A widowed father meets his daughter's new teacher and sparks fly. There's a whole sub-plot involving a home-shoppers angel knick-knack going on, but even at it's best it's not as exciting as you (probably don't) think.
Best bits: It's a short and quick 1.5 hour listen... fun and uncomplicated, with great narrators.
Worst bit: Kevin's voice sounds like... a cheerful middle-aged man who is likely to play a father from a John Hughes 80s teen romance. He sounds like a roly-poly, sensible, adorable and kind... but not at all sexy. At least not for a rom-com male lead. He narrrates very well, but it takes a beat to get used to.
Recommended for: Anyone looking for a G-rated family friendly rom-com hour to kill.
This was another Audible Original short story. It sounded like a fairly quick and fun read from the summary, but unfortunately, it wasn't. This was an example of a story that could have been cute, but the author ended up just making it overly complicated and extremely frustrating. We see an enormous example of miscommunication with the female and male MC's, to the point that I wanted to just bang my head on a table. Then, the premise, while holding promise, just gets way out there in terms of credibility and lost me after that.
The full-cast ensemble is good, but not good enough to hide the glaring plot holes. Read via audible plus (narrated by Ron Butler, LJ Ganser, Brina Palencia, Chris Kipiniak, Mia Jenness, Ann Osmond, Therese Plummer, Lauren Fortgang, Brittany Pressley, Suzanne Toren, Allison Hiroto, and Ali Ahn).
Wonderful voice performances and audio production. Awesome family relationships and friendships. Too bad the big misunderstanding plot line is not my favorite and the prolonged miscommunication frustrated me.
This was so delightfully cheesy but super cute! Definitely perfect if you are in need of a super quick holiday romance with Sleepless I n Seattle vibes 😍
Overall 3 out of 5 stars Performance 4 out of 5 stars Story 3 out of 5 stars
Sweet holiday listen. 3.5*
This was a sweet, heartwarming, if somewhat frustrating at times, listen. As someone who has been sucked into QVC already this holiday season, it was fun to read a book with a plot revolving around a home shipping channel. Both Mary and Kevin are both dealing with loss this Christmas and an angel figurine might just be the Christmas miracle that brings them together.
The frustrating part comes in with the missed connections- it got to be a little too much. And I didn't like how Mary was so set on keeping her options open with Riley, when she hadn't even spoken to him. (Don't worry, this isn't a love triangle- you'll get it if you listen.) But overall it was enjoyable.
I'm usually not one who likes a full cast production, but this one was done very well. I liked both narrators and the voices of the side characters,
This was sooooo cute!!!!!! The best part of being an audible members is getting all these lovely Christmas audio shorts. This one is definitely worth the quick listen. Super cute.
Here’s what this book is about:”Can you fall in love while operators are standing by? Kevin’s a widower doctor with a precocious 12-year-old. I listened to this on Audible. I really enjoyed this book. It was cute. I felt like I was listening to a Hallmark movie instead of watching one and I like Hallmark movies. I liked that television shopping was mentioned. I like television shopping channels. My favorite television shopping channel that I like shopping on is QVC. I’ve ordered all kinds of stuff from them and I like knick knacks. I like watching QVC sometimes but my favorite thing that I like seeing them sell is makeup because I like wearing makeup but I’ve never ordered any makeup from QVC. Maybe one day when I’m watching QVC, I’ll order some makeup. Another television shopping channel I like watching sometimes but I’ve never ordered anything from is HSN. Maybe if I see something on HSN that I want, I’ll order it.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️🖥🎄👼
My thoughts: This story was a bit cheesy, but it works. It's just okay, borderline between wack and could be good with tweaks.
Home Shopped Holiday was such an interesting story, and had such a fun Christmas spin on the story that I truly enjoyed. I honestly was either laughing or crying, and it has graphic audio. I am learning to really love this style in audiobooks. I did enjoy how the story was developed though and it was short and sweet. Its one of the holiday novellas that is a short distraction and delivers on all the holiday charm that you might be searching for! Definitely a fun interlude to enjoy!
2 star story but the cast was good so I gave them a star too.
The story could've been super cute. It was a sweet setup. But the love was so immediate that insta-love doesn't quite describe the whiplash of love. So that part of the story is extremely lost. I think it could be a great Hallmark movie though, where there's more time to develop the connection.
It was very Hallmark, small town, Christmas love storyish. Kinda plastic with a guaranteed HEA. Don't get me wrong I LOVE a good HEA or HFN story, this just wasn't my favorite.
This was such a cute Christmas book. Cheesy and predictable but totally gets away with it for being so damn cute and exactly what you want in a quick Christmas read. The multiple voices added to the feel here, it brought every character life and kept me fully invested in the story. I would recommend this for the festive season.
Eh-- like an off-channel Hallmark Christmas special. Quick, a little cute, a lot of miscommunications that could have been avoided, a lot predictable. I mean, when two adults have pets named Oscar and Felix, they are obviously meant to be.
My Review: This was kind of a miss for me. I didn’t connect with any of the characters. At times, Mary really got on my nerves, I couldn’t believe that she was falling for two men that she didn’t know at all... But then she kind of picks the one she knows literally nothing about… I also felt that not much happened within the plot, I kept losing interest as I was listening my mind would keep wandering.
I liked the full cast of narrators though, it’s probably the only thing that kept me listening and from giving this a one star review.
OVERALL: This is a new-to-me set of authors. I’ve been on a roll listening to holiday romances, so I thought this would be a good listen. I particularly loved Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone, and this one reminded me a little of that. There’s a romance centered around miscommunication. And if you go into it just looking for a sweet holiday-themed romance with two characters who can't seem to figure it out until the end, then you'll like it.
STORYLINE: So, if you like holiday Hallmark movies, you’ll enjoy this quick listen. The plot is centered around a widower, his 12-year-old daughter, and her teacher. There are many miscommunications, missed moments, and cute flirtatious moments that all lead up to a very sweet ending. There were many times I wanted to just shout at the characters, but that’s the point I suppose -- two main characters that can’t seem to figure out what’s going on long enough to realize they are meant for each other.
CHARACTERS: Kevin was a bit of a bumbling idiot, but he was fairly likeable. Mary was sweet, but again, a bit of a bumbling idiot, so they made a good pair I suppose. The character that really helped make this book enjoyable though was his 12-year-old daughter, Natalie. She was really fantastic and quite believable.
NARRATION: I have to say, I’ve been a little iffy on full-cast narrations (sometimes, they work really well; other times, not so much). This one, though, was really well done and felt more “play-like.” I especially liked the extra sound effects. They helped bring me into the world of this story.

I like hallmark. I like cheesy. But this was pure cringe. First off - why are the men seen as incompetent? The daughter makes her dad breakfast because she doesn’t think he can even toast bread? In the other family, the dad never helped with Christmas, never bought toys of the daughter, thought tickle me Elmo was a possible gift for his 12 year old. So his sister has to help? He is a doctor - he clearly is a competent human being. This is the trope of men are incompetent and women are what keeps a family together. Ugh. And we don’t know the ages of the two love interests - but she is a student teacher and he is a widower with a 12 year old. One assumes he is quite a bit older. Which is fine - but not important to the story development - so why couldn’t she have been a teacher in the same school - or something where we could imagine she is likely close in age? This was an audible original and the performances were good - I really enjoyed the actress voicing the shopping channel host. But I couldn’t get past the storyline.
I would always appreciate a full-cast narration and a little, sweet Chritmas story a la Hallmark.
Widower doctor Kevin wants to make his daughter's first Christmas without her mother memorable, so he wants to buy a special edition Christmas angel for her from a home-shopping chanel, but he is too late. A woman has already purchased the last one.
The woman being Mary, a young woman who also lost her mother, who happens to be Kevin's daughter's teacher and happens to already like Kevin.
They find each other online, but they use nicknames as they do it. They try to get together, because Mary wants to give the angel to Kevin but they never manage to do so.
I will be brutally honest here; the push and pull, the miscommunication between Kevin and Mary and their internet personas got exhauisting after a point, but I am rounding my rating up for the sake of the pretty impressive narration and production design.
I didn’t realize what “read by a full cast” meant until I started listening to this so that was definitely interesting.
I don’t think I loved the multiple narrators, but it was kind of cool that it was basically like listening to a movie.
There were a lot of background noises though and I understand that it was to add to the effect of the whole story and make it seem more real but those sounds really distracted me and I had a hard time staying present in the story because of them.
Overall this was super incredibly cheesy and very hallmarky and I definitely didn’t love it but I also didn’t hate it.
It was a quick listen and it definitely mixed things up as I wanted a little break from the 15 hour historical romance audiobook I was listening to at the time.
