TW: Gaslighting by a parent; previous alcohol/substance abuse, converatorship, PTSD

This is my first book by Kat Mizera and I enjoyed Play and am looking forward to finishing the series, and while I’m not a fan of angst, I do like when there is some real conflict in a book and this one seemed to be too neat especially given what was happening in the book. I did like the characters a lot, loved how the two main characters were quite a bit different, but also had a lot in common, and the secondary characters were varied and interesting so I think this is going to be an entertaining series. The plot was intriguing almost a ripped from the headlines feel, but the execution of it was a bit disappointing. I’m all about the HEA and I wanted that for Tyler and especially for Ariel, but the conclusion came about way too quickly and easily to make it believable especially given how the court system works. That being said, Play had great characters, it was a solid story that set up this series nicely, and it was entertaining.

Ariel Fox is a mega pop start who has been under her father’s conservatorship since she was 17 years old and went off the rails. Now 25, almost 26 she wants more from her life but is scared to take on her father and the owner of the record company that produces her music because she fears the worst will happen, she’ll be sent back to an institution and have even more restrictions that she does now. Meeting bassist Tyler Thompson backstage at a gig he’s performing with his band that they want her to collaborate with she feels a connection to him like no other and it’s mutual.

Tyler Thompson can’t take his eyes off the beauty backstage at a gig and then he realizes she is Ariel Fox. While pop music isn’t his thing, there is something about Ariel that intrigues him including the almost robotic like façade she puts on except when she’s looking at him. He doesn’t expect a bathroom tryst or how deeply he feels for her afterward and knowing they will have a week to spend together in Vegas while collaborating made him wonder if he imagined the connection between them.

I liked Tyler a lot he’s a bit older and has grown out of the wildness of being a rock star and prefers a bit quieter lifestyle. He enjoys time with his friends and band mates and working on his music and he wants to know more about Ariel. For the last 8 years of her life Ariel has basically lived in a prison doing what her father wants and expects because not doing so will result in punishments she doesn’t want. Tyler shows her how life can be without her father’s influence, but is she strong enough to fight.

Ariel perplexed me because she wanted a life of her own but in the past 7 years she’s never done anything to try and change her situation and I get she has a bit of PTSD from her time in the asylum, but not even researching or learning more about bi-polar disorder or reaching out to someone to help her outside of her father’s circle just didn’t make sense to me. I get that she didn’t trust anyone, but it was obvious that Lexi was a friend that would have at least listened to her but after their tour together was over she never reached out to her. So it really irritated me when Tyler did research and asked her about it that she got angry with him and left instead of talking to him. I felt like Tyler was blamed when in reality he was trying to understand her disorder but since she knew nothing about it and she couldn’t answer him she felt he was trying to blame her disorder on what they had. That being said I think Tyler could have handled things a bit more delicately, but she wasn’t blameless in their problems.

While I was thrilled with the outcome for Lexi and Tyler, I felt the ending was super rushed especially the conservatorship trial which moved at the speed of light and where everything went exceedingly easy.

Overall, Play was a good first book in a series as the band worked together to move past some real issues to find their footing and plan for their futures. I’m looking forward to reading Pause.

Excellent beginning to what I know is going to be a fabulous series!!

Last year I went down a Kat Mizera rabbit hole and now I never want to leave! I cannot get enough of her stories! I love her style and voice! She ticks off all the things I love to read in my romance fiction! The absolute best aspect of Play is that Kat created a story with two characters that within each other was the thing the other needed in life to be happy. In other words, kismet. It gets me all tingly when an author writes that aspect in their characters and it makes me want to jump into the story and become part of it!

The journey of Tyler and Ariel was consuming and captivating. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next, not in a suspense kind of way but more of a navigational kind of way. I was rooting for these two from the beginning. They are real and relatable, and their circumstance felt realistic to me. Like I said, I wanted to jump right into the story!

If you haven’t picked up a book by Kat Mizera yet, this is a great place to start! She’s incorporated some previous characters she has written into this story and it is sure to make you want to backtrack and read more of her books! #trust

Tyler loves his job but hates distractions. Ariel is a little frustrated with how she’s being treated. The author must have some knowledge of music, or done some research, in order to have the reader believe these characters are part of the music industry. She certainly had me convinced.

The author impressed me by creating a character who is dealing with mental health issues. It’s a tough subject and she shows what toll it takes – how it affects them and the people around them. Then she has me turning around because she takes me in a direction that I never saw coming.

I loved the cover the author chose for her book. Once I started getting to know Tyler, I started thinking it was an even better choice. As I got involved in the story, and don’t think you won’t either, my mind lets me know it’s not really all about him. I started to wonder if I was going to be dragged down by what was starting to happen. The romance had its moments. The steam our couple created together felt natural and fit their personalities well. But then came the moment when something changed and I just could not stop turning the page. Putting the book aside was not an option. If you don’t know the saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover”, you will understand soon enough.

You have to let the storyteller do what they do best. This author creates what might seem like a simple world but she has complex characters. Musicians are not people that you really know. We only know them by how the magazines and reports portray them. We don’t know what they’re like once the door is shut and our world is left on the other side. They are private people like you or I with problems and issues just like us. I look forward to see which bandmate I’m going to get to know next.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I really liked this one, but more for Ariel than for Tyler. I liked Tyler at first, liked how he was with Ariel, gave her a safe place to be, but later when things got tough for her, when things happened that she predicted, he walked, which pissed me off. I was glad when others in Tyler's life pointed out what an ass he was and glad that Ariel took that time for herself to get her life settled.

I really liked how things played out in court for Ariel, liked how everyone was on her side, how she showed all the awful things that had been done to her. At the end, I was good with how things ended for Ariel and Tyler, glad that they kept something so big private, just for themselves and people that they loved and who supported them.

Play is a fabulous start to a new series. I loved this one. You will see many familiar faces and they just make the perfect addition to the Rock Hard series. This is Tyler's book. You may have met him as former bandmate to Casey. Now he is in trying to bring home a new music deal along side his bandmates. He is sweet and sometimes clueless. But you will love him anyways. Then there is Ariel and everything her (ugh) dad puts her through. She is stronger then she thinks she is and is so sweet. I love the instant connection Ariel and Tyler have. They just have this pull that you feel from the start that will keep you glued to the pages as their attraction grows. I really could not get enough of this. I cannot wait to see where Kat Mizera takes us with this new series. This may just become my new rocker addiction.

Straight out of the headlines!

Tyler Thompson has moved on to a different band Nobody's Fool's after the retirement of their lead singer when she married a king but when he meets pop rock princess Ariel Fox, his world has been turned upside down. Ariel was tired of her father controlling her career with a conservatorship after a breakdown, but things were going to change for both of them.

Play is one of those books that you don’t want to put down because you want to find out what happens next. Or you get to catch up with characters from other books and series that the author has written.

P.S. I went over my treadmill time because I didn’t want to stop reading!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When it comes to hockey-themed romances I've found the works of Ms. Mizera a wonderful blend of action and romance, a reliable series of books that have always left me satisfied. I can now add her rockstar-fueled romances to the list of reliable reads courtesy of this series starter full of familiar faces and a main couple who sizzled from the very start.

Tyler Thompson is a familiar face as he was once at the top of the music world before his band's lead singer chose love over fame. He's ready to start over with a new band now though and it's just one rocky step in a journey to HEA that's full of all sorts of bumpy moments. Tyler's a rugged and sexy rocker, sweet and supportive too, and just who Ariel needs in her corner. From their sizzling first encounter to the ups and downs they experience in the public eye throughout their journey, theirs is a romance that had me rooting for them every step of the way. He may have been leery of love at the start but he quickly found himself entangled in Ariel's complicated life while trying to help his new band find their place in the music world. He and Ariel ended up being a formidable pair with a romance that frustrated me a time or two but that ultimately left me feeling satisfied.

Ariel Fox is a pop star princess who's had enough of being controlled by her father and his legal moves after a breakdown in her past. Her situation is reminiscent of what Britney Spears is going through and it had me aching for her as it doesn't seem like there's anyone on her side at the start of this story. She too wants to start over, wants to be free of her manipulative father, but is scared of making her situation worse. Seeing Tyler for the first time is like experiencing a breath of fresh air. He's strong and exudes grittiness, facets she wishes she had, and the attraction between them is more than obvious from the start. Together they will make beautiful music together in a journey full of emotional highs and lows. Through it all I found myself cheering Ariel on as she was a sweet young woman, stronger than she thinks she is, who thought that all she could have was a moment of happiness. Instead she discovered an epic romance that had someone supporting her through every bump in the road in a journey of empowerment.

This was a wonderful series starter with an appealing main couple and their emotionally intense journey to HEA. This couple started off feeling alone but together they're a formidable pairing, a sizzling connection full of heart and soul. The issues surrounding Ariel are timely too, and with everything happening in the media now, new insight is given into her life that drew me to her even more. Alongside this appealing main couple was a cast of equally likable secondary characters. Some of these characters are ones we've seen before and some are newer. Characters like Stu, Ford, and Bash left behind tempting glimpses of what's to come and it has me excited for their stories to be told! Fans of rockstar romances will definitely want to add this story to their bookshelf as it's a decadently delightful addition to the genre.

Amazon / Universal / Apple / Nook / Kobo

Tyler (from The Royal Trilogy) has joined a new band when he meets the gorgeous, if troubled, popstar, Ariel. Their connection is hot and instant, but she's under her father's thumb as he's her conservator, so if they want to be together, they'll have to figure out a way to do so without her father's interference. Will her father's manipulative ways be too much for Tyler to handle? Or is it the strong feelings he soon develops that will have him running from Ariel?

Tyler has no clue what to do when Ariel rocks his world. He's not used to strong emotions for anything other than his music, then this woman comes along and has his mind and heart going in a million directions. Should he stick around to see things through? Are her feelings for him real or are they a byproduct of her troubled mental and emotional condition?

As rockstar (and popstar) romances go, Play is fabulous. The connection between Ariel and Tyler was so strong from their very first meeting, and I wanted that happiness for them. I wanted to shake Tyler a bit when his feelings overwhelmed him and he took the coward's way out, but aside from that I really enjoyed Play. Plus there were cameos from the King Eric and crew, so that made it even better. I am so excited now to read as all the whole squad of Rock Hard finds love.

When you feel a pull towards someone, even if you think it has to be temporary, never ignore it, because you never know where it could lead.

Tyler has been around plenty of women, and he has spent plenty of intimate moments with a variety of them. As a famous bass guitarist, previously with the band Pretty Harts, he has had his share of lust filled moments. When Ariel Fox walks into his life it is as if he has been hit over the head with a sledgehammer. She is gorgeous, talented, and cold as ice...or so he thinks. When he and Ariel create some heat of their own, who imagined it would be more than a one time event. The thing is, these two have an instant connection that can’t be denied.

Ariel can’t trust anyone in her life. Friends are something she doesn’t truly have and her father has ultimate control over her life because of one incident, during her teen years. Having an opportunity to spend some time with a woman she has had a casual friendship with, sounds like a dream. What Ariel didn’t expect was to be slammed with an instant, and intense, attraction to one of her friend’s band mates.

When the opportunity presents itself for Ariel to get out from under her father’s thumb for a week, and record a song with a talented group of musicians, she cannot wait to enjoy the entries experience. Of course, that experience also involves enjoying some passionate hours with Tyler Thompson. As these two unexpected lovers begin to build a strong connection, Ariel must decide how she will end her nightmare under her father’s control, without losing the things that matter most.

You will be addicted to this edgy romance and be drawn in from the very first moment. Readers will fall in love with Tyler and Ariel, while loving every moment spent with old friends and new ones. Another fantastic romance from Kat Mizera, and a spectacular start to a brand new series! I look forward to the next book in the Rock Hard series!

Loved This!!

Tyler and Ariel’s story is right out of entertainment headlines. Tyler is starting a new band and is looking to get his new band signed and Ariel is already a pop star princess who is a story in itself. She grew up being a star at a young age, mom dies, she gets a little out of hand in her late teens and now her father has conservatorship over her at the age of 25. At first meeting Tyler and Ariel both knows there is something special about the other person but Tyler also sees a very controlled Ariel and he wants to be by her side to help her out.

Tyler is a rock star fantasy that I loved from the very start. He has a very caring heart and also one h*ll of a V! Will Tyler stay by Ariel’s side when his new band and bandmates are threatened by the music mogul and Ariel’s father? This is the first time in adulthood that Ariel finally has not only a boyfriend but other friends as well. She is finally getting to live only what she has dreamed of.

This is my first time reading this author and if she puts out rock romances like this I will definitely be picking up more of her books!!

Rock hard, live strong

What a rush! Author Kat Mizera dropped me onto stage with the Pretty Harts as they were about to perform, and when Tyler Thompson, the gorgeously charismatic bass player locks eyes with Ariel Fox, the connection is hypnotic for them, and a must-read for me!!!

Wow, Ms Mizera reminded me why I love rocker romances so much, from the passion of the performances through to the personality of the characters themselves and the palpable chemistry between them. Hell’s teeth, you could literally cut the tension between Tyler and Ariel with a knife! She absolutely nailed it the strength of their connection. There was even a parental figure that was up there of all parental figures to be hated. This book was amazing, to be sure.

Tyler was quite simply a character that I liked very much. As one of the original members of the Pretty Harts, I first met him in The Royal Trilogy as one of Casey Hart’s band members, so while it was great to revisit old friends, it’s not necessary to have read the books, but highly recommended. He was completely mesmerised by Ariel, and horrified by the conservative life she was forced to live, promising to be there for her. As much as I love him, he still managed to disappoint both me and Ariel.

What can I say about Ariel, that I won’t spoil anything for you, except that my heart broke for her, yet I both loved and admired her fortitude. She was brave, strong, gorgeous, talented and clever. She’s biding her time, and I’m saying no more than that!

Play is a strong first book in Kat Mizera’s Rock Hard series, and one that I highly recommend as a must read of all Rocker aficionados. I’m also telling you now, I’m looking forward to the next ones! 5 stars 🎸🖤★

In Play, Kat Mizera brings back our favorite musicians with a few new characters. Tyler was the bassist’s for Casey Hart’s band, but when she left marry a king, the band Reckless Harts was disbanded. Tyler now has a new band with several new band mates. While the band, Nobody’s Fool, is playing a live show, he sees the pop start Ariel Fox in the wings. Something just clicks into place, beginning a new experience for the playboy.

Years ago, as a teenager, Ariel lost control, drove her car into a pool, and then hit a policeman. Her father placed her in a mental institution, told her she was bipolar, and became her conservator, controlling every minute of her day and her finances. When she meets Tyler at the show, she lets go for a moment, sneaking off with him. Soon, they are trying to get together again, but away from her controlling father.

I liked how these two were complete opposites, their music, their lifestyles, and their freedoms. But one thing connected them, they both were lonely in their own ways. Tyler is this smoking hot bass player, a known player who can have any woman he wants, although he seems to want more. Tyler was invited to join Reckless Harts when he was 17, and although he is a great musician, everything has come easy for him, fame, fortune, women, while never having to work at it. He is sweet but clueless. Ariel has practically been locked away in a tower, no friends, no relationships, since she was a teenager. She lacks self-confidence, and while her beauty and musical abilities have made her professional life easy, her personal life has been hell.

I love this start to a new series, and the bandmates are all so different from each other. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

I received an ARC of Play from the author and this is my honest review.

Play is book 1 in the new Rock Hard series by Kat Mizera. There are new characters among many familiar faces that will show up which is why they make a great group for Rock Hard. This is Tyler and Ariel's story. Tyler is the bassist for “Nobody’s Fool” and Ariel is a pop rock princess. These two happen to meet up when Ariel comes to a Nobody’s Fool concert and there is instant chemistry between Ariel and Tyler. Ariel happens to be having family drama involving her dad going on that is interfering in her letting her live her life her own way. Tyler wants to help her any way he can but will her dad keep Tyler away? This story has everything- betrayal, family dynamics, secrets, lies, heartbreak, deceit, pain, feels, attraction, drama, passion, angst, love, sizzling chemistry, forgiveness, hope, twists, chemistry, and HEA.

I am relatively new to Ms. Mizera’s books, having only read one prior to reading Play. I knew as soon as I finished reading (Cocky Protector) that I just had to read more. I love her writing style, she mixes romance with smiles, heat, laughs and real life situations that are very relatable. She defines the characters in the book to where you feel like you know them and are seeing their lives through the characters eyes. When I say Play was #1 in a new series I knew this was my chance to start her work (of course I now have to go back and grab all the protector’s series too and I can’t wait).

As for Play this is a wonder storyline. The main characters, Tyler and Ariel, are both lonely in their own ways as well as skeptical about relationships. Both in the public eye as well as having personal issues. Their instant chemistry was off the charts. But with Ariel under the thumb of her father and his conservatorship over her, she knows the one brief indescribable moment was all she was ever going to have. So she set out to make it everything she ever dreamed of. Can it ever be more? Can these two fight for what they “Think” they have or will it all be just a wish in the night like everything else in their lives.

For me this is going to become a Must Read series (I just feel it). I highly recommend grabbing this up, curling up in your favorite reading position and simply enjoying. You won’t regret it.

2 Thumbs Up and 5 Stars.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this one since I’m not a huge rockstar romance fan. I ended up loving it! Tyler and Ariel were both great characters. I also loved the intro to the band - I’m so excited for their stories! I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Tyler brings it home for his girl! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read

Who is up for a new rockstar romance series? Play by Kat Mizera is non stop goodnesses. I read this in one day and could not put it down; I didn’t want to either. I loved the story of the Pop Princess and the Rugged Rockstar falling head over heals in love. They definitely have a make it or break moment in the relationship but Tyler really brings it home for his girl! Ariel’s personal struggle complex and is something she has to fight hard for and she is kinda a bad ass when the dust settles!

I love that we got to visit some old favorites in this story. I got to see Casey and Prince Erik and some of the Royal Protectors. Tyler and Ariel’s story was lust at first sight, but will it turn into something more? Ariel has some family stuff that is getting in the way of allowing her to live her own life and Tyler has some reservations about some of her history. Can these two find a way to make beautiful music together. This was a quick read for me and it gave everything I love in a good story and a little bit of mystery and suspense built in!

Tyler take care of the one! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read

Kat has hit it out of the park with the new Rockstar series! This book has love at first sight with lots of obstacles to overcome. I love the cross-over with the Royal Protectors, Sidewiders, and Nowwhere Trilogy! Tyler and Ariel have to overcome not only their own fears but trusting each other to make this relationship work! Love this first book of the series and can't wait to read more!

Not what I was expecting at all. Book is gritty from start to end. Play had it's frustrating parts, most of the book was frustrating. It ended with a happy ending.

Kat Mizera did a phenomenal job adding some of our favorite characters from her previous books into Play.

Major fuck up, but no grovel

DNF @ 90%

Almost at the end, but I still stopped reading. "Why", you may ask. Well...

There's this young woman named Ariel, who's been so isolated and closed-off because her father has conservatorship of her and manipulates everything. Because she is allegedly bipolar (I had doubts right from the beginning). She has no friends, no social life, no relationships for the past 8 years while she's under his control.

She meets this rock star, Tyler, is instantly attracted and they connect so when he encourages her to fight the conservatorship and tells her he will back her up, she believes him.

But when her father starts a smear campaign against her and his bandmates, after a deal with a record label falls through, he tells her they need a break.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

It's betrayal. I hurt so much for Ariel at this point I had tears in my eyes. For him to ask her to trust him, when it wasn't easy for her, only for him to go back on his word? Unforgivable. And it's not just about him telling her they need a break, he also made a big deal about maybe she was having a manic episode because she was "hypersexual".

Maybe it wasn’t logical, but in my heart, I firmly believed that if he couldn’t trust me at my worst, he didn’t deserve me at my best. I refused to be shamed for loving the physical relationship we had, and now he’d destroyed both my heart and my self-esteem.

So Ariel does the right thing and leaves his ass, ignores him for weeks, but when they meet again for the first time (after she wins the case on the dissolution of the conservatorship and it's revealed she isn't even bipolar) and he apologizes and makes all these excuses about himself...

SHE FOLDS LIKE A GODDAMN WET PAPER TOWEL.

At this point, I was like "I totally fucking knew it!" And I threw my hands in the air, also wanting to throw my phone to the wall, and stopped reading this shit.

After all that talking to yourself about him not deserving you, you'd just... Ugggghhh.

Another thing is, I grew tired of their sex scenes because they got pretty boring in the latter half.

So, no, I absolutely do not recommend this book. Doesn't even deserve 1 star for me.

This is a new series from the author but brings back characters from her Nowhere to Run series and also Royal Protectors series, in addition characters from her Vegas Sidewinders series, I have not read any of the series entirely except for the Royal Protectors. But I never fever felt like I was lost in the story so I think its a story that can stand alone.

This series is about rockers who are friends with Zaan and in a band with Lexie. Lexie is friends with Ariel Fox and invites her to a concert and to hang out with her band. Ariel is a solo artist and excited to get away from her father who has had conservatorship for seven years, from when she was 17 and spiralled out of control when her mother died. He controls every aspect of her life and she takes medicine to control her bipolar condition.

Lexie is in a bad with Stu, Ford, and Tyler. When Tyler and Ariel meet a connection is formed but she knows her father will never let her date him. And so starts her friendship with Lexie, Tyler and the band as they write songs together for a few days in Vegas.

Ariel wants control of her life and this is really her story about how she manages with the help of her new friends to get control of her life. It was an awesome story that features Vegas, Limaj, Casey and Prince Eric, Royal Protector Marcus, and Lexie and Zaan.

It was an awesome story and I was riveted as Ariel fights for the freedom and her life as she falls hard for Tyler. I loved how he was in her corner and helped her out so much so can escape. He is her confidant and bestfriend and lover all in the same man.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tyler is a Rock Star and never really has to look out for anyone but himself and his band because they are family.

Ariel is a pop star being controlled by a dictating father.

Ariel comes off as cold and unemotional. She finds this to be the best face for her father to see so it will keep the peace. But among others she is sweet and loving and fun. Although she has not had fun in a very long time basically because her father will not let her. She has been under his rules and control since she was 18 years old. And now is the time to take her life back.

After meeting Tyler and his band she finds a new family and friends that she loves. She was supposed to talk the band into becoming more pop sounding and not rock in order to sign on with her label. She knows this will not happen but promised to try her best knowing if she tells them what they want to hear she can be on her own for a week in Vegas with Tyler and his band without her father controlling her every move.

When thing become more clear that her father will not let her live her life Ariel takes drastic measures to get her life back. She cannot live without control of her own life any longer. With the help of Tyler and his friends Ariel has to power, love and support to try to take control of her own destiny.

This was a nice story of support, love, loyalty, and friendship. Ariel being so sweet and just wanting friends and people in her world that mean something to her. Ariel just wants to feel something again. She has felt numb for way to long.

Tyler is sweet and smitten with Ariel at first glance. Now in order to keep the girl he has to figure out how to stop his selfish ways and be a good friend and boyfriend.

Play is a fantastic first book in the new series, Rock Hard, by Kat Mizera. Tyler Thompson is a bass player who played with his best friend, Casey Hart, in Pretty Hearts and now is trying to get a record deal for his new band, Nobody's Fool. The record company wants the band to tone down the hard rock sound to a more commercial pop sound. Ariel Fox is a pop star who has been under her father's control when she made a series of mistakes as a teenager. Ariel longs for freedom from her father and the record companies' demands. Sparks fly the moment Tyler and Ariel's eyes meet. The chemistry between Tyler and Ariel is explosive and hot. Ariel is asked to sing on a song with Nobody's Fool. Ariel is excited to sing with Nobody's Fool but is more excited to be away from her father and spending time with Tyler. What will Tyler do to protect Ariel when her makes threats against her? Can Ariel find a lawyer who will help her break her conservatorship? Will Tyler step back from Ariel when Ariel's father and the record company go after his band mates and friends? What will Ariel do when she learns her father has been lying to her and stealing her money? Will Ariel forgive Tyler and give him a second chance? I LOVE Kat Mizera! Play is an amazing book with great characters. I love Tyler and Ariel and can't wait for the next book in Rock Hard Series. I received an ARC of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Play was a really fun start to Kat Mizera’s new Rock Hard series.

Nobody's Fool is looking to break into the industry with their new hard rock band. Even though members had been in other successful bands, they had yet to be signed as Nobody's Fool.

Ariel Fox was a teen pop star. She’s now 25 and living under the conservatorship of her extremely controlling father because she has a mental health diagnosis. When her record label suggests a collaboration with Nobody's Fool, she jumps at the chance.

Ariel and Tyler have instant chemistry and quickly find themselves deeply into each other, even knowing their time together is limited. When Tyler offers to help her break the conservatorship, Ariel takes the leap of faith . . . and queue the fireworks!

This book had it all! Rockstars, instant and crazy chemistry between Ariel and Tyler, a crazy and controlling father, our favorite rocker Casey Hart and her husband King Erik of Limaj, and an epic court battle! Of course , there are also lots of emotional moments, hot AF scenes, miscommunications because men can be dumb (LOL) and all sorts of other goodies.

I loved watching Ariel gain confidence in herself from having the support of others, and loved Tyler finaly learning how to face the tough issues without running from them. Play was an awesome start to the series and I can't wait for the other guys to get their books! 4.5 stars!

Holy Rock N Roll Batman

I wasn't sure how this book was going to go when it initially seemed like it was going to be a "love at first sight" story, but it is in no way that kind of story. There is so much more to the story than two successful musicians meeting and falling in love. Ariel is a beautiful you woman who has been a huge pop star since she was a teen. Tyler is a talented and sexy bass player in the hard rock band Nobody's Fool. They have an immediate connection when they first meet. The record company wants them to work together, but they want Nobody's Fool to be more pop, than rock and dangle a huge contract in front of the band. As the band and Tyler get to know Ariel, they learn how controlling her father is over her life. She's never had a chance to enjoy her life and have any friends. She finally decides it's time to take control of her life and get out from under her dad's control.
There is so much that goes on in this book. You find out what an absolute jerk her father is (and I'm being nice). Even in the end he claims he was just trying to protect her. Tyler makes some stupid decisions when Ariel needs him the most. The band, including Tyler and his parents, a King, psychologists, a pharmacist and more all come together to support Ariel to help her get her freedom and what is truly hers. Did the Judge rule on Ariel's favor? Did Tyler win her back? Will the band go on? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Kat Mizera always delivers an amazing story filled with emotions, romance, some angst and plenty of steam. Play is the story of a pop star and a rockstar who have off the charts sexual chemistry.

Tyler Thompson feels like he was struck by lightning when he first sees Ariel backstage at a club he and his new band are playing. She’s equally as attracted to Tyler and things get crazy physical in the bathroom. Their relationship gets a one week extension when her record label has her cut a track with Tyler’s band. The relationship between these two is smoking hot and incredibly sweet. They spend time talking and getting to know each other and enjoy being together.

The road to a HEA gets bumpy when her dad discovers their relationship and tries to force them apart because he controls her entire life as her conservator (legal guardianship over her personal and professional life). Their love story has some misunderstandings and mistakes, that cause some painful moments...whether this lust or love has to wait until Ariel battles for her freedom.

This was a fabulous read and I can’t wait for future books about the other guys in the band. Lexi and Zaan, Casey and Erik make appearances in this book along with a trip to Limaj.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tyler Thompson is the successful bass player with Nobody's Fool. He can have any woman he wants, wherever he wants, he can party and he takes advantage of the perks of his superstar status whenever he can. Ariel Fox, is the child star that had a very public meltdown when she was seventeen, and was ordered under the conservatorship of her father, who controlled every aspect of her life. When Tyler and Ariel are brought together by their record label, sparks begin to fly and soon they can't get enough of each other. But with every minute spent with Tyler, Ariel finds her confidence increasing and decides she wants to escape the clutches of her father. But when he threatens to have her committed to a psychiatric facility again, Tyler and Ariel flee the country to stay with friends. As Ariel finds the love surrounding her from Tyler's friends, and she explodes with happiness at her new found freedom, something between her and Tyler seems to disconnect. But with the fight of her life against her father, Ariel can only commit to one battle at a time. Tyler on the other hand, has to make Ariel know that he was wrong, but can he win her back? Great writing, emotional, with a storyline that keeps you turning the pages.

Play is an interesting start to a new series about a brand new band. The focus here is on Tyler and his instant connection to super star Ariel.

While Tyler and his friends are creating a new band, he is no stranger to being famous. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him at first, but the more I saw him with Ariel the more I liked him. Ariel is a character that I couldn’t help but empathize with. From the outside looking in, she appears to have it all, but appearances can be deceiving.

I enjoyed seeing these two get to know each other and seeing Ariel brought into the fold of people who surrounded Tyler. The conflict here was unique and I appreciated the fresh approach to the typical “screw up and grovel.”

As much as I enjoyed Play, I also struggled with it as well. Ms Mizera is an author I’ve read in the past, but I have not read her full back list. This book seems to pick up threads from multiple previous series and brings them together via secondary characters and friends. There was almost too much connection to other books/series as some of the references left me a bit confused and took me away from Tyler and Ariel’s story.

I am curious to see what may be in store for Tyler’s band mates .... and I need to go read more of Ms Mizera’s back list!

A great start to a new series! As always I love that this series shows so many familiar faces from other series. What I love about this book is that we get to see what makes the characters from other stories tick. Tyler always seemed like just a band member to Lexie in Royal Protectors but now we can see that he is a sweet but at times may not realize all that is going on around him. Ariel is what we think some times of young single artist. She is constantly told what to do how to do it and when to do it by her father. It is almost at times like he is using her to get the fame and money that he always wanted. When Tyler and Ariel meet it is a connection right away. She knows her father would never ever approve of her dating him. Throughout the story we watch the two of them learn how to navigate the world around them. Tyler becomes more aware of himself and his surroundings. While Ariel realizes that she can be her own person and the world will not self destruct around her. It is awesome to watch these two come together with a little help from characters that we already have grown to love.
