I’m just another girl who survived foster care. Nothing special. Oh yeah, except for my earth shaking magic…
But I’ve kept it under wraps, working in a restaurant, minding my own business. Until a frightened boy runs into the dinner shift followed by three fanged psychos.
Imagine my surprise when I find out I’m not the only one at the restaurant with magic. Together, we save the kid and send the fanged trio packing. Turns out, the kid is a very rare, pureblood vampire.
Which would be cool if his father, Masera, wasn’t a power-hungry megalomaniac. Now, fear has my magic spinning out of control, and I’m wanted by both Masera and the paranormal government.
With the help of Ash, my vampire coworker who is too pretty for his own good, I’m trying to get control of my magic. I would much rather be cuddling up in a coffin with him, but I doubt I’ll get the chance.
Because if Masera gets to me before I’m ready, I can kiss my not-so-normal life goodbye…
E.C. Farrell never met a book she didn’t like. (Just kidding! Though she’s not going to bad-mouth the ones she couldn’t finish, she is still mad about the end of Hunger Games Trilogy - RIP Prim) She likes her characters sassy and her endings surprising. Fluent in sarcasm, she has also studied Krav Maga and could out-burpee you any day of the week. When she's not writing, she often teaches creative writing classes for a local non-profit organization Write Create.
I love E.C. Farrell's books! Once again she offers something paranormally new and different!
Case has an unusual power that is dangerous & destructive. Because of that, she's done her best to hide it, but it's getting increasingly difficult to control. At the same time, her new job puts her in the path of creatures she never knew existed - which turns out to include her coworkers!
The story is intriguing & pulls you in quickly. Case is a sympathetic character who makes both an impressive & amusing reluctant heroine. Ash turns out to be more than a pretty face - though that doesn't hurt, either, lol. Masera seems unbeatable, & the suspense will keep you turning pages to the very dramatic end! It was soo good, and I can't wait to see where she takes it from here!
*Romance level: passionate kisses, a little gritty with a smidgen of horror mixed in (I don't like horror & it didn't bother me, but it might bother people who are especially sensitive - though I suspect they're not the type to read stories with vampires, anyway)
OMG this book is amazing! An exciting, magical read with a great quirky female mc, adventure, danger and drama. Well written this intriguing and original storyline will have you hook, line and sinker from the very first chapter and leave you wanting the next book ASAP!
This was another great book by a very talented author. She deserves those five stars for the true gift she puts to pages for us to enjoy and get carried away. The magic and characters are alive in this story. It’s a set I will come back to and read again. Thank you for sharing.
This book has a different twist on vampires and other supernatural creatures. Case has been through the foster system after her father disappeared and her mother couldn’t handle her after Case developed a strange power. When she is upset she can cause earthquakes. Now 18, Case has aged out of the system and works at The Mercury Room. One night at closing a young, disheveled boy runs into the Restaurant looking for Ash (Case’s hot coworker). Everything goes bad from there and Case is dragged into a world she knew nothing about. Action packed and drama with romance, strong characters and awesome friendships. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Farrell has done it again, writing a classic tale with her own unique twist of paranormal. Engaging from page 1, and with a writing style that keeps you wanting more. Definitely a hit for me, looking forward to seeing how the series continues
Definitely a good story. The characters are likeable and the plot is fast paced. Clean too and there is an untied string for a future book yet it doesn't take away from the story either. Very good.
This book is amazing, like nothing I have read before... Case is awesome, considering all she's been through, her resilence keeps her moving forward, always trying to help and do the right thing, even if she gets hurt in the process, her loyalty and love for her friends is admirable!!! 🤗💞 Action-packed, well written and with an unique, original plot, this magical installment will keep you on edge, wondering what will happen next and surprising you at every corner, 💯 recommended!!! ❤️
It was easy to read and full of adventure and drama, with a bit of romance thrown in.
I wasn't a big fan of the insta love/attraction thing. I'm not 100% sure what happened to her bestfriend or how she forgave her mother for abusing her as a child so quickly.... Definitely brought the story down for me.
That being said, it was refreshingly new/original. The author sets up book two nicely.
I have to say that this is the first time I’ve read a story that depicts vampires as something totally different then what I’m used to. That was really interesting. It made me think of like a shape shifter type. Really cool.
Story wise I really liked reading it. There’s a variety of supernatural paranormal characters like mermaids and witches and water spirits and vampires and faes; which is so great!
The main character Case is so entertaining. I love her humor. And Her powers are awesome as well. I want to see more of Ash & her relationship too haha.
Please tell me that there’s more of this story. It’s really good. And leaves me wanting to find out what happens with the other characters as well.
I absolutely loved this book! Intelligently written, witty, with relatable characters and who doesn't love a strong female lead! I laughed, I cried and I was truly entertained. I literally read this book in one evening as I couldn't put it down. E.C. makes you feel like you are right there with the characters and part of their misfit paranormal family. I can't wait to read more of her work.
Fantastic book! Gripping and suspenseful. I couldn't put it down from page 1. It has a Percy Jackson feel with a few Harry Potter elements as well as some suspense and mystery. I will definitely be looking for this author more often!
I made it half way through chapter 4 and can’t go on. The writing is… not my style at all. The paranormal creatures and plot seem very interesting already, though! I’d totally be into this if it wasn’t for the cringy writing.
Wow! What a great fast read! If you're looking for a fun story with lots of action, this is it!
Case is a woman who knows she's freakily different but still has a sense of humor about it. Her unusual powers to literally shake the world around result in a dysfunctional relationship with her estranged mother, a slew of foster homes, and eventually a job working at an underground haunt for the supernatural world... only she doesn't know it yet.
Her co-worker Ash is not your typical swoon worthy love interest. He's filled with quirks and imperfections that make him fell real (and okay, maybe a tad swoon worthy!) Together they make a great team from the start, but none of that insta-love stuff, just good old fashioned boy-meets-girl attraction that could lead to something bigger down the road. Though there are a few good kisses in there! There's a host of side characters each with their own backstories that will make for some interesting upcoming installments so I can't wait for those! (Ahem... Max!)
The villains are villany and the plot is tight and I really enjoyed this book. Being a sucker for romance, I would have liked a little more heat from the couple, but that wasn't the focus of the story so that's just a me-thing. If you're looking for that factor though, don't be disappointed when you don't get it.
Overall I would highly recommend if you are looking for a fun series with quirky supernatural characters with more unique personalities and abilities who really know how to throw a good punch.
Case grew up in foster care so has never really had a place that feels like home, until she starts working at the restaurant by her apartment. Even after being thrown into the supernatural world, she doesn't want to give up the bonds she's building with her coworkers, especially Ash. The two of them work together to find answers about her past and ways to protect Ash's brother from their father. A power-hungry vampire who will do anything to be the strongest being, no matter who he hurts in the process. With a strong sense of what's right and wrong, Case takes it upon herself to protect everyone she can.
CURSED: THE GIRL WHO SHOOK THE EARTH is a fast-paced paranormal romance that has a slice of action and mystery on each page. Case is full of sarcastic humor that lightens the somber moods that try to sneak in. I love the slow-burn romance between Ash and Case. It gives a realistic feel even in a supernatural setting. Case is a character many people can relate to and is a very positive person. The reader can feel it in each of her dialogues.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of paranormal creatures, especially witches, mermaids, and vampires. It's also good for those who like lots of humor in their stories. With the constant action (almost a bit too much if anything), CURSED: THE GIRL WHO SHOOK THE EARTH is an easy read that the reader can consume in 1-2 sittings.
This start to EC Farrell’s new paranormal series is a lot of fun! Case Ryan, fresh out of high school and looking to start college in the fall, defends a kid at her job from attack and realizes that almost everyone in the bar, The Mercury Room, has paranormal powers—including her. This adventure introduces Case to the larger monster world and the baddies after her new friends, but also brings a lot of heart when delving into Case’s past. There’s a dash of romance too! I had the privilege of reading this story as a first draft (when it was first described as Cheers + paranormal!) and I am so thrilled to see its final form and how the author has developed the characters and the world. Really great read!
I’ve found another new author via a friend. The very first book that I’ve read of this author and I can assure you it won’t be the last . Some books take a while to “ get into” but this story took me , hook line and sinker from the very first page. A voyage of discovery of the main character that I had the joy of sharing. Without giving anything away,it started with an extreme amount of self doubt but ending in a tale full of confidence and a belief in herself. Something we could all do with. Full of action, mystery with a generous portion of romance. A truly magical tale which is so worth reading. Can’t wait to get started on book 2 in the series. An outstanding read.
I picked this up because of the cover and the blurb, I was hooked from the first page, Case is a girl trying to get her life together and she also has this power that she’s never really had explained. The story was engaging, and had me desperate for more. I wanted to see Case the others managed to save Jeremy and Max, and I was there for the night. The world building was excellent and the plot was fast-paced to the point where you couldn’t guess what was going to happen next. I would love to see a second book in this series, and find out more about the character and the world. Overall, recommended!
OMG 😆 this book is spectacular ! An exciting, magical read with a great quirky female mc, adventure, danger and drama. This book had a different twist on vampires and other supernatural creatures. The magic and characters are alive in this story.
This book is written by a very talented author.Cursed : The Girl Who Shook the Earth is very intriguing and such a different original storyline that will have you hook, line and sinker from the very first chapter and leave you wanting the next book ASAP! Which is what I’m going to do next, after this review.
I thought this story was dynamite. Case has some very unusual powers. She can cause little earthquakes when she's feeling strong emotions. The bar she works at had a teen boy run in and a group of vamps rushed in after him. That night she learns paranormal creatures are real. This tale unfolds at a rapid pace and keeps you riveted to the pages. I couldn't put it down.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
