The block isn't getting any safer. Mike and his parents race to save Emily and Mickenzie as new neighbors are introduced. No one is having an easy start to this at times comical, nail biting, apocalyptic hell. The zombies are relentless in their pursuit of a hunger they'll never know the end of. No one on the block knows if they will see the end of the worst Monday ever!
Mike Evans lives in Iowa with his wife, children, and two adopted dogs Rusty and Harley Quinn. He writes with a passion to bring his characters to life, to make you fall in love with them, and then make you flip pages to find out if they’ll survive or perish. He keeps his characters realistic, there are no superheroes. There are no perfect characters in his books, everyone has their flaws much like that of life. Mike loves to write in different genres and is unafraid to try something new.
This is another round-robin visit to the large cast. One of the confusing things about this book is that some storylines feel like they have been advancing for hours (they started in book 1) while others that are set early in the day are just starting. Again, the action is about the same as in the other books and it really does feel the same. From the title, Zombies on the Block, I had expected this to be a series about families trying to barricade their street and fend off the zombies while dealing with all the pettiness that infects so many neighborhoods. So far, that isn’t an option on the table. The vast majority of the storylines are about people who live on the block but haven’t been able to get home yet. Eight books in and we’re still in the first hours of the apocalypse. The most interesting thing about this book are the two women who stupidly tried to avoid the zombies by getting into the middle of the swimming pool and then realize that was a terribly foolish decision. It’s fun, but we really aren’t getting very far.
With the super-flu was turning everyone to purple cannibals, the cul-de-sac wasn't safe for the Evans kids or any of the rest of the kids living on the Sac. Mike left to get his parents and hasn't gotten home yet. Good thing! He was going to be seriously upset when he saw what was left of his house! Meanwhile, side stories of some of the other denizens of the Sac continue as well as the continuing struggles of the fairer half of the Evans parents to get home.
The characters are getting better, but when you're righting about yourself it should be easy! The storyline continues to churn through people. Nobody's safe! In addition to being a zombie fighting fool, Mike Evans also writes an amazing zompoc! This is another great read!
This part had nonstop action. They all do but for some reason, I was really into this one. There was a lot going on so its hard to remember each character. I was sad for the ones who almost made it. They was working hard too. I'm ready for the next part since this was a cliffhanger.
Fast paced and realistic zombie series. I could see my family having a similar experience! Good zombie fun. Definitely start at the beginning of the series
