Like many writers without a background in marketing, I find self-promotion of my books both time-consuming and often ineffective. What Lizzie Chantree's book does, is give concrete examples of techniques that have worked for her and a timescale in which to implement them.

There are useful hints for different types of social media, some of which I hadn't considered using for networking. In short, this book is everything you could wish to know about how to promote your book and I wish it had been available when I first started out. Even so, there are several things that I will take from it and put into practice this year.

I have been an admirer of Lizzie Chantree for some time now, always impressed by her books and online personality.
An excellent writer (I have read several of her books) Networking for Writers shows how brilliantly she manages everything else.
Writers all over the world need to read how Lizzie achieves so much, seemingly without much effort, and manages to stay sane!
I thought I had learned a lot in my eight years of writing/blogging, but after reading this professionally written book there is so much I hadn’t thought of before and implementing them all has to make me a better and hopefully, successful writer.
I found many helpful tips in most of the chapters, but chapter 13 – Marketing made Simple – will be the most important one for me. I found so many things that I have ignored in the past, thinking them unimportant and quite a few I never heard of before.
Life is a balancing act, making sure we simplify our marketing plan to ensure we make time for writing and marketing!

In this day and age, networking is key for both traditionally published, as well as self-published authors.
But where to start?
The amount of different social media platforms out there can boggle the best of minds, so it is always to great to have a thorough guide, and who better than a successful author and entrepreneur, to step up and share her tips and ideas?
Lizzie Chantree has put together a wonderful resource, that is a quick read, but filled with so many gems to help you get started, and continue growing your social media presence, and work with other writers, your readers and businesses to benefit not only yourself but the wider community, too.
Definitely worth the read.
Now, I'm off to schedule some posts... everywhere!

I always enjoy reading books by the bestselling author Lizzie Chantree, so when I noticed that she had written a non-fiction book: Networking for Writers I ordered a copy to see if the hints and tips might be helpful to me.

The Review

There is no getting away from the fact that we live in a digital age and that networking is key for authors whether they are traditionally published or self-published .

Networking for Writers helps writers make sense of the plethora of social media platforms out there in a straightforward organised way.
The author has created a user-friendly book and it is great, at last, to have a thorough book to guide writer through the social media maze.

Lizzie Chantree has produced a wonderful resource, that is now regularly by my side. It is quick to read, but do not be misled. This book is filled with so many gems to help writers start, and grow their social media presence, and work with other writers.

The ideas are useful and allow writers to benefit both their readers and their businesses by taking part in social media with the writing community. It allows writers to benefit not only themselves but to enjoy and help the wider writing community, too. Networking for Writers defines a win - win situation that can be fun and profitable. What an excellent combination!
It is definitely worth the read and I highly recommend it for all writers.

From new authors to those more experienced, this book tackles one of those subjects many writers shy away from – talking to other people. Putting yourself out there can be a scary prospect and knowing how to make new contacts and boost sales is vital if you hope to ever make a living from writing.

I was given the paperback copy of this book by the author (cheers, Lizzie), though I also bought the eBook, as the text size is a little too small for easy reading. Packed with really useful info about social media, online groups and how to make best use of them, I was surprised to find I learned quite a lot. As well as highlighting the many apps and sites that can be valuable to authors, Lizzie Chantree explains how to make the best use of them, such as how to lay out Pin titles on Pinterest and which apps to use to create eye-catching images (like Book Brush, which I hadn’t come across before).

Though most would-be authors will know about things like Facebook Groups, it can be difficult to know what to do once you join a new group. Networking for Writers highlights how to create interesting content that isn’t just the author telling people to buy their book! She also explains the differences between personal and business profiles and the importance of responding in the right way to visitor comments.

All in all, this a great little book that will be invaluable to anyone who wants to grow their reading audience and, of course, make more money.

This is Lizzie Chantree's debut non-fiction book about networking for writers. I'm familiar with Lizzie's romance novels having had the pleasure of reading Ninja School Mum and If You Love Me I'm Yours.

Did Networking for Writers meet my expectations? Absolutely. This is a clear, well-written and invaluable resource especially for those who are fairly new to writing, getting to grips with the marketing and business side can be daunting. It is also a great book to refer to for writers, such as myself, who have been blogging and writing for five years plus. I learnt new things and was reminded of aspects of networking that it's possible to forget in our daily busy lives. It's simple things that are so easy to do which make a difference.

Lizzie's personality shines throughout this book. She is honest, helpful and caring in her approach to help you with your networking skills.

A highly recommended and enjoyable fast read.

Absolutely fabulous book and so helpful and insightful.

I am new to writing and I know that the information in this book will definitely help me promote and market myself as an author and my book when it's ready for me to attempt publishing.

The apps and ideas are so good and I have downloaded a couple to get familiar with. I have had a look at the lovely Lizzie's social media sites too so I can see what works.

The book is the perfect pocket companion for any current author or author to be. Full of so many useful tips and tricks and easily headed so you can find what you're looking for when you want to look back on it.

Thank you Lizzie for giving me the opportunity to read and review it.

This is a great little book for all authors! It's full of great advice and useful tips on the one aspect of a writer's life which so many of us feel difficult and daunting: the dreaded self-promotion. What I particularly liked is that Lizzie gives us so many concrete examples of what she's tried and what worked well for her. The chapters on social media are well-explained, suggesting approaches which I'd not previously considered. She also reminds us that we still need to make time to write!

All in all, this is a very generous gift to writers everywhere. I know I will be going back to refer to it again and again - once I've revived my Pinterest account!

Personally I have never written a book (unless my dissertation counts) but one day I hope to be.
I found Lizzie has written an invaluable book to help not just writers network but I feel this could help immensely to anyone in the need of networking in general. As a small business owner I know I could (and will) adapt some of the tips given and boost my views, comments and reach in general.
Very recommended to writers and budding writers who want to get their work out there! If you’re a small business owner also looking to extend their reach I would highly recommend this also.
Thank you Lizzie, I look forward to adopting some of your tips.

This is a top class guide to every day, cost efficient marketing for those with a book to promote. Entrepreneur and author Lizzie Chantree has written a short, handy guide to marketing using basic tools at most people’s disposal.

This is a short work which makes it a perfect work for those who want to breezily navigate the world of online marketing. Chantree clearly has spent a lot of time getting to grips with the algorithms which drive a wide variety of social medias and she offers a sensible, manageable guide to help writers nurture engagement.

One of the nicest aspects of the book is Chantree’s belief, which comes through loud and clear, that networking is a two-way street and that those writers who engage with their readers regularly, politely and honestly, acting in good faith to help them, are those who will reap the most benefits. In an age of social media-driven hype powered by petty nastiness and clickbait bluster, it is really nice to have someone espousing the truth that nice people don’t finish last.

And Chantree is an engaging guide. She uses her own experiences – humbly bad as well as motivatingly good – to steer the reader through what they can do to put more copies of their books in readers’ hands.

There are just two caveats I would highlight for readers: firstly, I would have been interested to know how Chantree went about building a following before she had a book to promote. Secondly, if you are not a regular user of Facebook or Twitter I think this book might be a little challenging. That’s not a criticism per se, Chantree is very clear about the processes she chooses to write about, but if the thought of scheduled posts or you don’t know what RT stands for, this is advanced enough to bring you out in a cold sweat (I imagine).

Overall, a slim volume of sensible, cost-effective advice which can be read in one sitting or used as a handy reference book. As an aspiring novelist myself, I know where I will be turning when I have a book to promote.

Aimed at authors, but equally appealing to business owners and social media marketers, Networking for Writers by Lizzie Chantree is a well written, jargon free book. It can be read in one sitting or dipped into as needed through your writing journey, making it a great companion to sit alongside your work. Lizzie offers sound and up to date advice about networking and marketing your book. This includes paying attention to the changed circumstances of writing and publishing during a pandemic, which has left many of us unable to meet up in person. She gives her thoughts on different social media channels, and how to make good use of these, through drawing on her own experience.

Lizzie also shares her knowledge about creating and following a sound working schedule, and how she uses allotted time to interact and engage with like-minded individuals through social networking sites. She shares this advice in a positive, unpretentious manner. She also sets the book out in short and concise chapters that are easy to refer back to, should you wish to double check her advice on a particular point. This makes it quick to pick out pertinent information that will relate to your writing wherever along the line you may be.

I am extremely grateful to Lizzie for sharing her experience so clearly, and would recommend this book to anyone else who is either hoping to publish a book, or wishes to further their business through the use of social media.

This handy guide gives tips on using social media platforms, covering Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Pintrest branding yourself as an author – but like I mentioned earlier, the tips are relatable to any creative entrepreneur.

There’s also a great section full of ideas for content to use for marketing and blog posts as well as how to create your own events, which are perfect to jump start your own creative ideas.

It’s an easy read, split into easy to understand chapters where you can dip in and out to the sections to grab the nuggets of information that you require – a really useful guide.

So forget the tech- babble, found in many Social Media guides and grab a copy of this book, which explains each topic in plain English, for even the most tech-phobic.

“Thank you” to Lizzie for gifting me a paperback copy of this brilliant guide and “Thank you” to Rachel at Rachels Randoms Resources for introducing me to a great guide and another wonderful author 🤗

Lizzie's book is eminently readable and has an approachable and can-do tone. It gives practical advice to writers, which it is clear, derived from first-hand experience of its subject matter. Looking in turn at each aspect of social media, the reader will find at least one which they can identify with as a starting point. Full of tips and links, this is a book which someone can dip in and out of, as required, and keep as a reference point.
I particularly liked how the author not only advises you on a course of action but gives practical advice on how to carry it out. For example, when she advises you to always have some business cards to hand, she also tells you where you can get them made up. She also recommends some sites to visit if you are looking to produce some handy graphics.
In short: Clear, concise, approachable- a great resource!
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book

I'm one of those writers who struggles with networking ... I haven't got the hang of Hashtags and I can never think of anything exciting to say on Facebook or Twitter ... then there's Instagram and Pinterest ... well I'm stumped.

Lizzie's book however is simply written (even dinosaurs like me can understand it.) It's informative and with short snappy chapters it's easy to dip in and out of.

If you're an author who needs help with branding ... then look no further. Networking for Writers will elucidate the whole thing and make it easier to interact on social media in a meaningful way.

The section on procrastination was a welcome read for me as I am so prone to this. It's starting to write that kills me - once I'm there typing, it tends to flow. However, that's after umpteen coffees, faffing about and generally avoiding what I really want to do - WRITE!

There's something in this book for everyone and it's not going to take ages to read. You will be able to implement any changes or ideas from the book in your own time.

A useful tool for writers aiming to expand their readership and presence through networking.

While there are plenty of books out there that deal with all aspects of marketing a book and using social media as a writer, it’s great to find one that talks to me in my language. I’m neither an expert nor a novice, but I like to check out different angles and approaches as there’s always something to learn.

And this book gave me a fresh outlook in a number of key areas, such as how to engage on Twitter and use it as a writer. Email subscription lists are another area where the author gave me plenty to think about and try. Suddenly, it started to make more sense. I could see how I could improve what I do.

That’s the beauty of this excellent book – it’s filled with practical tips, mainly based on the author’s own experiences and knowledge. The book’s written in an engaging and encouraging style that left me feeling more confident and motivated to try harder.

You can’t ask for more than that.
