Command is an emotionally charged, steamy, contemporary romance set in K. Bromberg's Everyday Heroes World project.
Shana
An intoxicated haze and a pair of handcuffs were not how I planned to spend my first night back in Sunnyville-- but up to this point, life had been anything but predictable.
Running into my former love was inevitable, but nothing prepared me for the sight of Nathan Donleavy wearing a uniform. After all this time he still made my knees weak and my mouth water-- for a split second I couldn't help but remember happier times.
Then his badge caught the light and reminded me that this wasn't some walk down memory lane. He was a cop and we were standing on opposite sides of the law.
I see the way he looks at me...I didn't need his pity then, and I don't need it now.
Nathan
Shana Callahan was the one that got away.
She was also the last person I expected to see when I showed up to a call. The vibrant, beautiful girl I fell for all those years ago had been replaced by someone else, someone I barely recognized.
My sympathy turned to anger when I remembered her partying ways and how she walked away from me--from us. She might still be lost in her grief, but I had a job to do.
I vowed to protect and serve, but my wanting to protect her had nothing to do with my badge and everything to do with the girl who used to steal kisses from me.
That's the girl I needed to find buried beneath the anger and hurt. We can do things the easy way or the hard way, but I'm not letting her walk away... again.
Amélie S. Duncan writes contemporary, erotic romances. Her inspiration comes from many sources including her life experiences and travels. She lives on the West Coast of the United States with her husband.
My first time reading this author’s work and I am super impressed. She wrote an incredible story full of emotion but not too dark or angsty. I think the better word might be drama fueled with a whole lot of heart. There are circumstances in the book that are not just heavy but also thought provoking, especially from Shana’s character. She’s one you might need a bit to get used to, but she’ll grow on you, trust me. Now Nathan is an easy one to fall for. They are complete opposites, but you know what they say about opposites …
I liked that the story dealt with relatable everyday problems that could easily have turned this book into a dark, angsty spiral but the author didn’t let it happen. There’s a balance to the story where you don’t even feel the heaviness when you read it but know its there! There are quite a few plot points happening in this story and there might be times when it all seems too much but it comes together nicely. Exceptional writing. Props to Amélie S. Duncan. Well done!
Another day, another hero book for me. I can't say it enough how much I have been enjoying these spin off hero books. When I take them for review, I usually don't even realize they are part of The Everyday Heroes Word, so it's a nice surprise. This time around our hero is Nathan Donleavy, handsome cop extraordinaire with a heart of gold.
Nathan was a character I liked instantly. He was a man all about his small town and the people that lived in it. As a cop he not only proudly patrols the town, he is also a big part of it, volunteering when and where he can, mentoring and well checks were all a part of his day. He was a giver, so much so that he gave his heart away a long time ago and the recipient has finally returned.
Shana was a little harder to like. She was selfish and spoiled, with a woe is me, I'm just a screw up attitude and did nothing about it. She left the small town a mess and came back the same way. Shana was in LA for a few years needing to get away from her family, the memories and Sunnyville altogether. Now that she's back, she wasted zero time getting right into trouble and the eyeline of one Nathan Donleavy.
This book was a treat! I feel a little guilty saying that because it was a pretty heavy storyline, but that was the beauty of it. Amelie Duncan did a great job balancing the drama and angst so it wasn't overbearing, it was the right amount of what in the world could happen next for these two.
Command is well written and a real page turner for me. Not only were we focused on the main characters, but the supporting characters had all kinds of stuff going on as well. The book reads as a standalone and I loved how the Malone brothers spilled over in to this book from others.
A beautiful emotional story. I loved this book right from the start. Shana is struggling after the death of her twin brother and has turned to popping pills every now and then to forget. Being summoned back home from her parents her first night back she finds herself in a drug and alcohol daze being arrested and may be facing criminal charges and it turns out one of the arresting officers is her ex. Nathan is now an officer after an accident ended his baseball career, a response to and overdose at a rave has him coming face to face with his ex the one that got away. Not only did Nathan lose his best friend when Shana's brother passed but he also lost the love of his life as she dumped him and left town. Couple years later she is back and the feelings are still there but now he has other obligations and now that involves watching Shana get arrested. Shana my heart goes out to her as she tries to find herself after so many years of being her brother's shadow and feeling now she's not good enough. Nathan is swoon worthy as he shows that he is there for everyone who needs help and he tries to show Shana how much he loves her. I never wanted their story to end. I hope Nathan's sister and brother get a story too I wouldn't mind reading that. I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
When tragedy struck Shana tried to outrun her demons by leaving her hometown, her family and her boyfriend Nathan. A few years later her life hasn’t turned out as she planned and has returned to her hometown where she reunites with Nathan under the worst of circumstances.
Nathan is a great guy who even though life threw him curveballs he rebounded and will do anything for anyone. After being left behind reuniting with Shana was difficult enough but seeing the situation she is in makes it that much harder.
This is a story about two people who have a painful past and reacted very differently to the challenges that life threw at them but together they might just find the healing they both need.
I’ve become a big fan of all the stories in the Everyday Heroes world. Shana and Nathan’s story is full of emotions and and situations that make for one interesting read. There are parts of this story that had me doing a reread as I found them confusing, but the story overall is one that is well worth the read. Plus you get appearances from some other beloved characters. One to make sure you add to your tbr list.
Command by Amelie S. Duncan tells the story of Shana and Nathan who at one time was a threesome until her twin died when they were 18. Her twin brother Jackson was best friend with Nathan. Shana was Jackson's shadow and the three of them were always together. Now back in her home town after a failed business venture Shana is not looking forward to her plight. Her life is out of control and prescription drug fueled, she finds herself in jail on her first day back. To add insult to injury the cop on the scene of her arrest was no other than Nathan. Nathan and Shana back in the day were an item and this was the first time she had seen him since she broke up with him with no explanation. She still loves Nathan but since Jackson's death her life has been turned upside down. Shana and Nathan's story is one of two people who loved each other but one senseless death changed everything. I loved Shana and Nathan. The back story of the role of Jackson in their lives played a big part in their issues. I felt for Shana as well as wanting to ring her neck. Nathan is a good hearted person who loves his family, his town and Shana. His back story was a real tear jerker and truly tugged at my emotional heart strings. There was so much more to this story than Shana and Nathan finding their way back to each other. A 4.5 star read for me.
I'm a fan of this author's work, and I'm a fan of The Everyday Heroes World because who doesn't love a hero?! Oh, and I totally LOVE being Sunnyville because I want to go there permanently to be honest LOL! Nathan was our hero here, and I'm not going to lie, I LOVED HIM HARD! He was a beautiful soul, not to mention he's a sexy cop keeping his small town safe, but it's more than just a job to him (that's where the beautiful soul comes in). Shana was the girl who Nathan gave his heart to, but she took off on him. However, she comes home where she's instantly on the wrong side of the law, and Nathan is the law so how is that going to play out?! I wasn't a huge fan of Shana's because she came off very selfish & self-centered when she first landed back home. One of the best things was watching her develop into more which did have me warming up to her after a cool minute. And there's no doubt that she & Nathan never lost that spark not to mention he wasn't willing to write her off. Will Shana finally show the real woman behind all the hurt & anger?! You know what to do to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
If you have never read K. Bromberg's Everyday Heroes series, you are missing out on some amazing reads. Between the author herself and the awesome lineup of authors writing fanfic for this series, there are just some great page turners. Command by Amėlie S Duncan is one of the books in this series. It's about Shana Callahan, a young woman who comes back to her hometown after a career setback and a summons by her parents. Shana left town after a personal tragedy and never looked back. Too bad she never kept in touch with her boyfriend she left behind. Officer Nathan Donleavy is surprised to find Shana in the middle of trouble. Too bad he has to arrest her. Shana spends the book trying to prove her innocence, but nobody makes it easy, especially Nathan. I enjoyed this book, though there is drug use. Shana is not a perfect heroine, she has flaws, which makes her more human. It's refreshing to read a book where the lead characters make mistakes, like all people do.
Why should you read this book?🤔 👇🏻 It has those “commanding” 4💫💫💫💫 • 👍🏻Author Amélie S. Duncan has done an amazing job with the background of the story, the plot and storyline🤩 The book has yumm-licious characters! Swooooooonnnnn...😍😋 👍🏻 An amazing plot, seamlessly blended characters, it has a very unique and interesting storyline that keeps you hooked!❤ 👍🏻 It starts with Shana, a grieving girl, a half of a whole, a shadow lost its way and found hereself untethered and trying to shut herself down. Nathan, a cop finds her on the other side of the law. She was a mess but she was his mess! ❤ 👍🏻 I am completely, honestly and irrevocably in love with Nathan and Shana. I hurt with her, for her and felt for her. The story is so well written you find yourself lost to it! ❣ 👍🏻My recommendation: If you are looking for a Hopt Cop Romance trope, this is your book!🥰
Shana was only in her hometown for one night before she's being arrested for something she doesn't know and didn't do. She's fighting for her life and trying to figure things out. She's sad, depressed, and just wants to give up sometimes. What she doesn't realize is the one man that she has always wanted is the one that might be able to save her. But sometimes that just doesn't work out so well and when things just keep snowballing she has to wonder when will it ever end. She knows she's had issues and she knows that she needs to fix things. But can they find out the truth of what happened to her that night? Or will she go to jail for something she didn't do? As for the hottie cop Nathan can he put the pieces back together? Just when you think you have the story figured out. Well, you're wrong. This puzzle will be so much better than it was before.
Command was the first story I have read by this author and found that it was a really enjoyable story. This story really pulled me in and the author did a really good job with telling this story between these two characters. The characters I really enjoyed and found that they had really great chemistry with each other.
Shana has had a hard time in the last few years and she is trying to get her life back on track. I really enjoyed reading shout her and the strength that she has throughout the story.
I absolutely loved Nathan and really enjoyed the way that he took care of the people that he loves. I really liked how he looked out for Shana even though he doesn't make things easy for her at first.
This was an enjoyable story that was filled with angst, drama, romance and love.
Command is set in K Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes World Project where various authors write books within K Bromberg’s own series. Each book can be read as a standalone.
This is Shana Callahan & Nathan Donleavy's story. Shana has a troubled and destructive behavior All she wants is to be accepted and loved. Her life fell apart after her twin brother died. Shana is now back in her hometown after being gone for 3 years.
Now Shana is in trouble. She has been arrested for drugs. Nathan, her “former love” is now a cop. He isn’t making things easy for Shana. Shana denies that the drugs were hers and she works on her character and trying to prove herself innocent.
Command was an emotional read for me. There were a couple of parts that had me crying.
I loved this hot and steamy story. Amélie S. Duncan really knows how to write. She brings you into her books so that you won’t want to put them down once you start reading. In fact, I was up late reading this book because I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end. This was easily a 5 Star read!!! I always look forward to reading more of this authors' books!
Shana returns to her hometown under duress. Her parents are forcing her home. She lost her twin brother years ago and has never gotten over the loss, moved to LA and started an app, yet needed money to keep it going. There is so much going on in this story. Shana has so many ghosts to confront in town. Yet she lands herself in big trouble minutes after arriving. With help from her old boyfriend Nathan and many others in town Shana starts to get her life in order. Only after she learns to speak what's in her heart. Lovely story about a crew of people who only want to help others lead better lives.
Command is a story that has you pulled into what felt like a realistic and relatable drama. Nathan and Shana are opposite sides of the coin that go together perfectly. A story that keeps you on the cuffs of darkness but never plunging into the heart stopping angst that sometimes can be your undoing. Nathan will steal your heart in a moment and Shana will hold you at arms length until she doesn't. Their story is emotional, gripping, affecting and just enough heat and steam to warm your heart. Their story intertwines in the everyday heroes world seamlessly and commands your attention from the get go.
Wow! What a wonderful story! Amélie Duncan has written a beautiful story with complex characters that jump off of the page.
This is a second chance story for Nathan and Shana, two people who have been through more than they should. These two have a history, but can they overcome the obstacles to have a future?
This story has everything needed for a great romance, there is drama, some action, lots of emotion and the perfect amount of steam. This story will suck you in and not let you go, I couldn’t stop reading it. It is an amazing addition to KB World’s Everyday Heroes.
This is a great addition to this amazing series and is Nathan and Shana’s story. Shana is still grieving the passing of her twin brother which had her leaving her small town 3-years previously, and she has returned under duress. Nathan and Shana have a history, and he is now a cop, and it does not take her long to find herself in trouble with the law. This is a good story which is filled with drama, angst, emotions, and love. The only downside in my opinion only, is that I struggled to engage with the characters, however, I look forward to reading more from this author.
I am not one for drama but this one grabbed me and didn't let me go. Nathan and Shana are so different but you can't deny their chemistry. The story is relatable and I felt all their emotions, especially Shana. It took me a while to warm up to her but I love how the author makes it all come together.
I haven't read any of this authors work prior to reading Command and I am sorry to say that I have been missing out. Shana and Nathan's story packed drama, and longing. A frenemies to lovers style that melted my kindle at some points. The way the author wrote the side characters making them main characters in my brain is a skill. I was very happy with this book!
This book...... I've read a loyof emotional books yet manage to keep the tears at bay........not this time. I had to take a break because I full on cried like a baby. You can literally feel the heroine's pain and emotions. Beautifully written
As usual, Amelie knocked this one out of the park. One minute I wanted to smack Shana and the next I wanted to comfort her. Lots of emotion with this novel.
This was my first book by this author and it didn't disappoint. This book was packed with tons of emotions I wasn't read for. I struggled with Nathan and Shana together and im not gonna lie there were parts that I had to re read parts cause they almost didn't flow for me and confused me. Overall I think everyone will enjoy it.
