She held her baby in her arms and she knew in that moment that he’d be coming for her. She couldn’t tell anyone her name, she couldn’t let him find her. She had to keep her child safe.
In the summer heat at the Craven County Fair in rural Pennsylvania, Dr Leah Wright is shocked to find a pregnant woman hiding from view and in labor. Leah manages to deliver the baby safely, but the woman won’t reveal her name. She's terrified, running from someone, and days later both she and her newborn son go missing…
Desperate to save them, Leah turns to Detective Luka Jericho for help. Eager for Leah’s help with a complex case of his own, Luka asks Leah to interview the widow of a man who has just been murdered. Soon they uncover a shocking connection between the two cases: the widow’s lawyer, a local minister, Reverend Harper, was spotted driving the missing mother away from hospital. Is this the man she was so afraid of?
When Reverend Harper refuses to talk, Luka and Leah turn to the only person who he might speak to: his daughter and Luka’s newest detective, Naomi Harper. But Naomi’s childhood in her father’s stark white house up in the mountains was more painful than Luka and Leah could ever have imagined. Is it already too late to save the woman and her baby?

DS Luka Jericho works in the Violent Crimes Unit. Dr. Leah Wright is the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center and their paths cross quite often.
While at a fair, Wright finds a woman in a field who is getting ready to deliver a baby. Wright gets her to the hospital in time for the delivery. The woman will only give her first name, Beth, as she is terrified that someone will find her. When Wright returns the next day, she finds that Beth and her baby have left the hospital.
Jericho has his hands full as well. A man has supposedly committed suicide, even left a note. But Jericho has a gut feeling that this was murder, especially after interviewing family, friends, and all of them had a motive to kill him. An ex-DEA officer even shows up with more information showing that the man wasn't exactly who be purported to be.
How do these two cases connect? A widow's lawyer, Reverend Harper ... father to one of Jericho's team.. was seen driving away with the missing woman and baby from the hospital. Is this the man Beth was afraid of?
When Reverend Harper refuses to talk, Luka and Leah turn to the only person who he might speak to: his daughter and Luka’s newest detective, Naomi Harper.
Well written, this police procedural is full of twists and turns, action is non-stop. The characters are all deftly drawn. Naomi Harper is a new character, a little on the abrasive side. It's a fast-pace leading to a riveting conclusion. Although 3rd in the series, this is easily read as a stand-alone, however, I do recommend reading in order. Lots of hidden gems make this an exciting series.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Save Her Child is the third book in the Jericho & Wright series. It was refreshing to see the focus on Det. Naomi Harper & see her character being developed. While the characters in the book were amazing, the plot was just OK. I was expecting nerve-wracking tension as in the last two books but sadly not the case. While I had a good time reading the book, it felt lacking especially because the last two were so damn good. Over the last two books Nate & Emily were emerging as a great storyline as they work out stuff together. I missed reading about their friendship in this book. After introducing a new prospect for Nate & Luka I wanted to see what the decision & outcome would be but that wasn't addressed. The end did not feel unique neither was it twisted nor surprising. Over the course of this series, I've come to love Luka, Leah & the other characters in the book. Hence, I will consider this as a minor blip in an otherwise outstanding series!! Looking forward to the next Jericho & Wright thriller!
Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture & CJ Lyons for an arc!

Save Her Child by C.J. Lyons is the 3rd in the Jericho & Wright Crime series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Information:(Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books) DS Luka Jericho has been in the Violent Crimes Unit in Pennsylvania for over 10 years, and fought to remain on the streets. He doesn't want a desk job. His team consists of Ray Acevedo, Scott Kricheck and newcomer Naomi Harper (who has a rather abrasive personality). He is now caring for his nephew Nate as well as his elderly father. Dr. Leah Wright is the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center, working closely with the police. Her husband recently died, and she is looking after her daughter Emily with the help of her estranged mother Ruby.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) Naomi Harper has just made detective, and her first case is the murder of an 18-year old prostitute named Lily Nolan.
Luka is investigating the death of wealthy 43-year old Spencer Standish.
Leah has both kids at the county fair when she spies a woman who is about to deliver a baby. Leah delivers the little boy, but the woman seems terrified someone will steal her child, and refuses to provide anything but a first name. She and her child disappear from the hospital the next day. Leah is determined to find them.
As the investigations continue, Naomi, Luka and Leah find themselves needing assistance from the others to work through these cases.
Naomi will have to confront her past.
Meanwhile, both Luka and Leah are navigating the new responsibilities of single parenthood.
My Opinions: I am enjoying this series, as they are fast and entertaining reads.
The plot was good, and although the foreshadowing easily lead to my early identification of the perpetrators, the story behind everything worked well. I must admit to being surprised at the identity of Lily's killer.
The characters are good. I really like both Leah and Luka. I still do not like Ruby or the kids. However, now that we know a little more about Naomi's background, she has definitely grown on me.
Will definitely be reading the next in the series.

“She couldn’t tell anyone her name, she couldn’t let him find her”
Oh My Goodness! I so want to go back to the beginning of this series, just so that I can flesh out a few of the details surrounding the past lives of Luka and Leah. However, I think that in all reality, author C.J. Lyons has done such an expert job of including most of the salient details, in just enough depth and detail, and at exactly the right time, that I might just need to consider this to be the start of my journey, but one which I shall be sure to continue with, as I have so many high hopes and expectations for this partnership and what their personal and professional lives have in store for them.
The opening lines from both the prologue and first chapter set the scene and had me hitting the ground running, as the action kicked in with those very first words. From then on the pace was relentless and just when I thought it was okay to stop and take a breath, something else happened which had me glued to the edge of my seat and urging the team on again. The ending was conclusive enough for case closure, making this an excellent stand alone story, although for our main protagonists there were probably more personal questions than answers, which is the hook that is set for me to keep wanting, no needing, to come back for more!
This multi-layered, intense and textured storyline of murder, deception, double cross and retribution, is written with consummate ease and total authority, by an author who knows exactly where she ultimately wants to lead both her characters and readers, and by what devious and twisted path she wants to take them. The red herrings are spread liberally and often, and it would only be the very astute who didn’t trip over at least one or two of them along the way, I know I did! It was so easy to become immersed in this complicated and devious plot, which is rich in atmosphere, where the air is constantly crackling with tension, the narrative is visually descriptive, and the dialogue astute and observational. The chapters are at just the right length to be engaging, yet fluid enough to keep the pace fast-moving and the action seamless and affording a real sense of time and place.
When the investigations begin to mount up at an alarming rate and threaten to overwhelm this small team’s resources, it comes as something of a relief when they work out that at least two of them are connected, although like myself, Luka had a suspect and motive list far too long to be feasible. A timely combination of good luck, assured tenacity and changing dynamics, all helps reduce the information overload to manageable proportions, leading to an end-game which is fraught with danger, replete with several unexpected and desperate interventions, and an inevitability which leaves no-one physically unscathed or emotionally traumatised.
Meanwhile, the third investigation has been left to the newest member of the team, Naomi Harper, to ‘cut her teeth’ on, although Luka still manages to make sure that she is coping okay, offer her strategic advice when she starts to make things too personal, and not let her get in too far out of her depth. Little do either of them know, that whilst the links are rather tenuous, this case will overlap with the central investigation, by dint of Naomi’s familial relationships with some of Luka’s suspects, forcing Naomi into the unenviable position of having to choose sides so early on in her career. Having spent much of her young life trying to fit into this established family unit and failing miserably on all counts, there are some rewarding and heart-warming outcomes for her, from the most unexpected of places and although the seeds of acceptance and belonging may still be fragile there are definite green shoots for her to embrace and encourage.
I became completely invested in the cast of complex, yet well drawn and defined characters, who make up this rural community policing unit. Luka is a good strong leader for them, who whilst he doesn’t suffer fools gladly, always manages to make time to listen to the thoughts and views of others, whilst ensuring that although he plays to their strengths, he also makes certain they address their weaknesses, so that all pull their weight evenly. The author had some excellent dynamics and synergy going on between them, which made them totally relatable and honest, both to each other and to me as a reader. Leah has only recently joined the periphery of the team in an advisory capacity, but she is already proving to be an invaluable asset, in a role in which she naturally excels and which she looks set to make her own in the future.
Luka and Leah are both in the midst of not only some serious career choices, but have personal and emotional demons to expunge, excess baggage to compartmentalise and store away and decisions to make not only for themselves, but for those who ultimately depend on them. Only then can a future of hope and promise reach potential fulfilment, or at least those are my hopes and wishes for them. See, I am a romantic at heart, who would have guessed!!
Another great book in this series. Leah helps a pregnant woman at the fair as she’s giving birth in a field and begging for help. She goes with her to the hospital but she will only say her name is Beth. When Leah goes back to speak to her the next day, she is gone. Leah asks Luka for help, but there’s not much he can do. Luka has his hands full with the death of a man in his car which is made to look like suicide, but later they determine he has been murdered. Harper is investigating the murder of a woman who had been beaten to death but her path crosses with her father, the Reverend when it seems he’s involved in the other case. There’s certainly lots happening in this book and Leah, Luka and Harper have to pull together and work as a team. Nate and Emily are getting on well but a decision Luka needs to make may change their future together at school. This is a gripping crime thriller which well and truly had me hooked. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Save Her Child, the third novel to feature Detective Luka Jericho of the Cambria City, Pennsylvania PD and crisis intervention doctor Leah Wright.
Leah finds a woman in labour at the county fair. The woman admits to be called Beth but is so terrified she won’t give any more information, so Leah turns to Luka Jericho for help, but he wants a trade and asks Leah to interview the widow of a recently murdered man who is not being straight in her answers or reactions. The link between the two cases is the Reverend Harper, father of the newest member of Luka’s team, Naomi.
I thoroughly enjoyed Save Her Child which is a compulsive tale of secrets and wrongdoing with some good twists and a clever plot. The novel is told from three points of view, Luka, Leah and Naomi, but in terms of plot development and characterisation Naomi is the star as she is the thread that holds the narrative, if not the case, together, all while solving her first solo homicide investigation. I really like her attitude and the way she navigates a troubled upbringing and family problems to stay true to herself and her beliefs. More please.
The plot is interesting throughout with several strands, most of which ultimately come together for a clever picture of crime, greed, betrayal and hubris, and, perhaps, a misguided understanding of love. It all gets a bit complicated in the middle with questions about who did what, who knew what, what are the links between the characters and what motivations are driving their actions, although it’s never incomprehensible and the solution is neat in tying them all together and still manages to throw in a few more twists. It’s very entertaining.
Save Her Child is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Save Her Child is the third in C.J. Lyons' fabulous series featuring Detective Sergeant Luka Jericho and Police Consultant Dr Leah Wright. In this cracking instalment, Luka investigates wealthy 43-year old Spencer Standish's death and asks for Leah's help. For her part, Leah is enjoying a day at the county fair with her daughter, Emily, and Luka's nephew, Nate when she finds a woman in distress, about to give birth. She assists her, delivering her baby boy, but the woman refuses to tell Leah anything about her situation, only revealing her name; Beth. Newbie detective Naomi Harper on Luka's team has a case of her own when she is called to her first murder. She recognises the dead working girl as a young addict. Are the cases linked?
I really enjoyed reading Save Her Child and couldn't put it down! With its many twists, I was desperate to reach the end. Having read the first book The Next Widow and the second, The Drowned Woman, I was praying that this one would be equally as good... and it was! Set in Pennsylvania PD, Leah, the head of the Crisis Intervention Centre is my favourite character in this exciting series; she is Mrs Calm and Collected, ambitious and resilient, the level-headed person that everyone needs in a crisis. C.J. Lyons has cast all of her characters well and they all have something brilliant to contribute to the story. The plot was enthralling and as the story progressed the suspense levels rose proportionately and I was kept guessing till the fabulous finale. All in all, Save Her Child really packed a punch. An intense, fiendishly good read that I highly recommend.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
Thrilling. Tense. Action packed. Addictive. This one gripped me and didn't let go. Loved it so very much. This is one author to watch and a series to be wowed by and evangelistic about. Do read this book and series. I guarantee you will be a fan too.
The second installment in the Jericho and Wright Thriller is just as thrilling as the first one. They race to catch a killer and a scared woman with a newborn. You’ll never be able to guess how things all tie together. CJ Lyons never fails to create a nail biting, edge of your seat read that won’t let you go till finished!
This is the third book in the Jericho and Wright series and I think I liked this one the best. This story has Jericho's team investigating two different murders, which is probably more realistic than many books that have teams using all their resources for one crime. As well, Leah stumbles upon a woman at the local fair ready to give birth. She goes with her in the ambulance and delivers her baby. The woman is terrified of something and will only tell Leah that her name is Beth and that someone is after her. When Beth and her baby disappear from the hospital, Leah asks Jericho to help her find the them as the baby could have a serious infection that could kill him. Naomi Harper, newest member of Jericho's team is the lead on the investigation of the dead black woman, but is called in to help in the murder of the man who runs the investment group and charitable trusts. All comes to a head with Naomi's father a critical lead in the investigation.
Wow, this was a non-stop story with all sorts of things happening. There were twists, clues and ties that had me guessing all through this story. he novel is told from three points of view, Luka, Leah and Naomi and I really liked that Naomi took a major spot in this investigation. We learned about her past and her family with made her very sympathetic and human to this reader. It also showed how even with all that happened in the past, she had a great deal of integrity and chose the right path. Leah's and Jericho's personal life was also included in this one, and it was Nate that had a key piece of evidence to help crack the case. Although it seems like there was more than one plot, things come together in the end. The major story is one of greed, fraud, betrayal, lust, and secrets. There is also the issue of religious leaders and how some of them have a god complex that makes them think they are above the law. The Jericho and Wright series are heart pounding, twisty, crime thrillers that will have an armchair detective smiling with glee. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I definitely recommend you read them all to get the backstories and because they are that good. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.
A pregnant woman is running for her life when her baby decides to arrive, but Dr. Leah Wright is near and able to deliver her baby. Maggie Chen, death investigator, has been called to the scene of a young woman who has been beaten to death. Rookie Detective Naomi Harper is assigned to investigate the woman’s death while her supervisor, Detective Sergeant Luka Jericho, is called to a possible suicide. When the pregnant woman and baby go missing from the hospital, Leah must find them as the baby may have an infection. There are many “twists and turns” to their investigations as Naomi is dealing with her adoptive family who has never approved of her law enforcement career and the suicide has now been classified as a homicide. Naomi’s father is a rigid religious man and seems to know something about the cases, but pleads the seal of confession. I liked the promotion of Naomi’s character from officer to detective as she continues to do what is right regardless of the effect on her personal life. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
What a intense, intriguing read! So much going on that I had to stop and think about what story I was on. Definitely did not get bored reading this book! And, the ending is climactic! There is more then one story going on. Each story is unique and draws you in. First there is a young woman about to give birth....why is she so terrified of someone finding her? Then there is a possible suicide or was it murder? And, a young prostitute is beaten to death. Are these stories connected in any way? The author does a great job blending everything going on so the stories flow well and make sense. This is the third book in the Jericho and Wright series. As with the previous books, Save Her Child is full of family secrets and mystery. I do believe these books can be read as standalone reads. Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, CJ Lyons, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
Save Her Child is another winning thriller in the Jericho and Wright thrillers. The young detective, Naomi Harper, plays a little more of a starring role in this one as she takes on her first case. Naomi uses her street connections to try and solve the death of a young addict. Next up an apparent suicide quickly becomes more twisted as Naomi is forced to cross paths with her father, the Reverend, and she has to hand the case off to Luka. Leah's day out at the local fair with the kids quickly becomes an emergency situation when she is forced to deliver a baby for a young woman who is clearly in fear for her life. Murder, fraud, and missing persons collide in a page turner of a thriller that will keep the reader guessing right up until the end. Jericho and Wright Thrillers are a guaranteed pulse pounding whodunit that will keep this reader coming back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
It's been six months since Dr Leah Wright lost her husband and her life has changed beyond all recognition. No longer working in the ER of her local hospital Leah now runs their Crisis Intervention Centre as well as helping the police when her expertise is required. This means she can also spend more time with her young daughter, Emily, who witnessed her father’s murder and is still traumatised by what she saw.
Taking Emily and best friend Nate to the final day of the Craven County Fair, Leah is shocked to find a terrified young woman hiding alone and in the final stages of labour. Desperate to help, Leah calls on Detective Sergeant Luka Jericho, asking for his advice and assistance. Working his own complicated case Luka is glad of a chance to find out what his friend and sometime civilian partner would suggest he do to get a grieving widow to open up to him about her recently murdered husband. Happy to help Leah is stopped in her tracks when, by the next morning, both mother and baby have disappeared without trace.
Beginning to work together once again Leah and Luka discover links in both cases to the Reverend Matthew Harper, the father of the newest detective on the Violent Crimes Unit, Naomi Harper. Having struggled for years to gain the respect of her adopted father, Naomi is, for the first time, leading a murder investigation trying to find the killer of a local prostitute known only as Lily. Instructed by Luka to get her father talking she has no idea how deeply involved he might be .
As the strands of the three cases begin to merge, Luka, Leah, and Naomi, along with the rest of the VCU realise events are beginning to conspire against them. As they rush to find a ruthless killer and a baby fighting for life they know it's only a matter of time before someone else dies unless they can discover the truth within the lies everyone has told so far.
This is the third Jericho and Wright thriller and there is a lot going on! It mixes the problems of home life with a stressful work environment so smoothly that nothing feels out of place and all the main protagonists have their part to play. The three cases are so different and the main perspective changes in each chapter but never once was I confused or unsure of what was happening. There was a very satisfactory denouement but there are things which will, of necessity, appear again in the next book in this excellent series and I for one can't wait!
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is an excellent addition to a first class series.
Great continuation to the Jericho and Wright series!
Luka and his mentee, a new detective named Naomi Harper, are called to the scene of an apparent suicide. Everything seems ok until the distraught widow shows up, blurting out confusion about why was her husband found in the garage and not at the river. It doesn’t make sense to Luka until a former DEA agent shows up and says that the victim once faked his death in Denver. To further complicate matters, Naomi’s father, a reverend and a lawyer, shows up to console and protect the widow.
Meanwhile, Leah, her daughter and Luke’s nephew are attending the county fair, hoping to win blue ribbons. Before the ribbon ceremony Leah sees a very pregnant woman in distress, and as a doctor, rushes to help. The woman goes to the hospital, has her baby, but won’t give her name. Then she and the baby disappear suddenly and it looks like Naomi’s father is involved in this matter, too.
I don’t do spoilers, so that’s all I’ll say without giving anything away. I did like learning more about Naomi and her tumultuous younger years.
This was a good book, clean, well-developed characters and enough plot twists to keep you interested. I enjoy Ms. Lyons writing style and her stories never disappoint. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
Twists and turns will keep coming at you as Luka and Leah and now Harper (great edition to the team with her ever so crazy dysfunctional family) try and find out who Beth really is and who is she afraid of .
They are still juggling the case of the man found murdered in his garage.
So many secrets, so many lies.
The pages turn quickly.
I love seeing how Leah and Luka and now Harper will continue to develop in this great series.
Can't wait for book 4. First in line again.
Don't miss this series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for another great book in the Jericho and Wright Thrillers.
I havent read the first two books in this series but had no trouble keeping up or figuring out what was going on. Im definitely going to check those out as I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and I really want to know what happened to them in previous books. . I was hooked from the beginning, and it was a page turner I didn't want to put down. I love Luka and Leahs friendship and working relationship.. Also Leahs daughter and Lukas nephew are best friends and its super cute.
When Luka gets called to an unattended death, that looks like a suicide, or is it?.. At the same time Leah helps a woman at a county fair give birth.. She refuses to give any information except her first name and she is afraid that someone is after her and will take her baby.. When she dissapears from the hospital Leah asks Luke to help her figure out where she could have gone.. While going through some survelliance tapes they realize that they know someone in the video, and that person also has a connection to Lukes case as well..
While trying to figure out exactly how these cases could be connected we get some really good twists and turns that I did not see coming.
I can't wait to read the first two books and another other books that come out in this series!
What a tangled web CJ weaves. New VCU team member Naomi Harper is investigating when a young woman is found beaten to death in an alley. Luka is dealing with a widow's strange reaction to her husband's murder when Reverend Harper, a lawyer and Naom's father, shows up to protect the widow. Meanwhile, Leah finds a terrified woman in labour at the fair who then disappears from the hospital with her infant apparently with the Reverend's help. A clever twisted story that hooks you from the start. Though this can be read as a stand alone, you will have a better understanding of these great characters by starting at the beginning. I cannot wait to see what happens next. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
What does a body found in an alley, suicide by a rich man (or is it murder) and a first name only pregnant woman have in common? Do they? Great page turner, hard to put down! Following Detective Luka Jerico, Detctive Naomi Harper, and Dr. Leah Wright and their families. Book 3 in the series, and great read as a stand alone, but after reading this book I want to go back and read The Next Widow and The Drowned Women. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an early read of this book for my honest opinion.
thanks thanks to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book. A pleasure to read any book by this author. Highly recommended. Such excitement on every page means non stop reading. loved it.
This is a fast-paced thriller. The storyline is intriguing. I was first introduced to the two main characters, Dr. Leah Wright and Detective Luka Jerico in the previous book in the series, The Drowned Woman. I really like these characters. I also like their methodology for solving crimes. I'm sure thriller readers will enjoy this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
DS Jericho and Dr Wright have met under tragic circumstances in the first book and although their relationship was bad in the beginning, they have found they can work very well together and even have become friends. DS Jericho has to deal with a murder case and a surviving partner who could easily win an Oscar for their performance. Dr Wright is working on a medical case with a patient who is hiding more than they are revealing. Two separate cases or so it seems in the beginning, but little by little they suspect there is a very strong connection between them. One cheater is being cheated by another one who is cheating on someone else. I suppose you can guess what it is that drives people to murder and deceit… Lives clearly do not really matter… Let’s not forget about detective Harper. A rookie but a force to be reckoned with. While dealing with her own major case, she is like an octopus. Wherever she is needed, she delivers. She certainly is a big asset to the police team. A great story once again. I had an inkling about one thing but there was a lot where I did not have the slightest idea about who or what and of course a lot where I missed the ball completely. 😊 5 stars
My thanks again, to Bookoutre, C.J. Lyons and Netgalley. I've truly loved this series from the get go! Jericho and Wright have become two of my favorite characters. But then this book comes along..I think, ruh roh! I'm a dummy! Harper? Such a great addition! Her family? Again. Ruh roh! In the words of the great Scooby Doo! Another sad and fricking heartbreaking tale. But, I'm lucky to have read it. Thanks!
Received an early copy from Netgalley, review provided voluntarily.
Absolutely could not put this book down. Just when I thought I knew what happened a new twist was added and changed direction. Jericho and Wright, detective and doctor, make an outstanding team when it comes to just about everything. A new addition, Harper, is on Jericho’s team and has caught her first case, a murdered young girl known for working the streets. We begin to learn about her family and their dynamic. While she’s struggling for answers on her case she is needed by Jericho, his case is a questionable suicide. And then Wright has gotten caught up with a pregnant woman and her mysterious identity. Each person has an importance in the other cases and they work well together to assist each other. The cases are intriguing on their own, adding in the personal lives of the characters and you have a thrilling and captivating novel. Sometimes I just need a book that challenges me and gives my brain a puzzle, this series is perfect.
This high octane adventure is all over the place. Three stories that don’t seem to have anything in common come together in the end. So many twist.s and turns and a crazy ending you’ll never see coming. This third book in the Jericho and Wright series is a must read
Luka and Leah were back, each investigating two complex cases. and the new cop to the team made quite an impression. She was quite determined and focused. The team needed that. Over the pages, the author bound the cases when slowly the strings started appearing. I was quite enthralled right through this investigation.
Save Her Child by CJ Lyons is a Jericho and Wright novel with several murders all revolving around one situation. Naomi Harper had just made detective. She reported to Luka Wright who had assumed responsibility for her when no other squad would. She was going to be good, he just knew it. They had been called to find a body in an alley. She arrived first therefore she was the lead. It was someone she knew: a girl she had tried to help get off the streets a year or so earlier. It broke her heart to see what had happened. At the same time she swore to find the killer. Soon after she was called to another crime, a possible suicide: a wealthy man who had sat in his car and turned on the gas in a closed garage. The investigation into that was going to be interesting. Who did she discover at the second crime scene, but her father, Reverend Matthew Harper, a man she had spent most of her life trying to please. She had been adopted at a young age: a black girl in a white family with an oppressive father and three older brothers. Leah Wright was a friend of Luka's: well, really their children were friends, so it worked out. After Leah's husband had been murdered she had quit running the Emergency Department and taken a job as the director of a crisis center. It had better hours and was still based out of the hospital. She sometimes helped the police with questioning: she was good at it. Leah and Luka made a good team.
She was empathetic; he was not. This is an interesting series because of the duo and their interesting lives outside investigating crimes. Luka was newly responsible for his nephew whose mother had died and it was the first time, ever that he had been responsible for another human. He was learning. Leah was struggling from Ian's death and raising their daughter. They worked together. This particular crime affected a great many people, including Harper's family, who were interesting in themselves. Although all four men were pastors, they each had another profession: her father was a lawyer; her brothers-a financial manager, a social worker, and one with a Masters' in communication. Very interesting group of folks, making investigating the crimes even more interesting. I would call this a police procedural, het it really was not. I was, however, a good read.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Save Her Child by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #saveherchild
Save Her Child (Jericho and Wright Thrillers Book 3) by CJ Lyons is another not-to-be-missed thrilling mystery for this spring! I have enjoyed the Jericho and Wright series and the addition of Naomi Harper as Luka's partner makes for an interesting story plot. A Ponzi scheme has various individuals fighting for gold, greed, and power. The first chapter starts with a dramatic scene of a young woman, Beth, going into labor with her first child all alone at a cabin. Detective Luka Jericho is called to the scene of a suicide, but he has questions as his investigation continues and he tries to talk with the widow. Something seems very strange when she calls Reverend Harper as her spiritual advisor, and he is also acting as her lawyer. Why would she feel as if she needs the council of her attorney when her husband left a suicide note, and what information is she withholding? Rookie Naomi Harper is called to her first homicide, and she recognizes the victim as one of the working girls she had hoped was in a place of safety and living a better life. Later she finds out her father is associated with Luka's homicide case. Naomi has never felt accepted and loved by her strictly religious adoptive family. Racheal and Reverend Harper did not give her any support when she was wrongly expelled from college, so Naomi has made it on her own for the past nine years. Dr. Leah Wright is enjoying a day at the county fair with her daughter, Emily, and Luka's nephew, Nate when she hears a woman in distress. Leah is shocked to see a woman about to give birth and goes to assist her. Leah delivers a healthy baby boy and prepares them for the arrival of an ambulance. The woman only gives her name as Beth and refuses to answer any questions. There are different interwoven events that have unexpected links. The main characters are likable, and the story hooked me from the beginning! Publication Date: April 19, 2021 Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Dr Leah Wright is at the country fair when she finds a woman in labour who refuses to give her identity. Soon after the birth, both mother and child vanish. Newly appointed detective Naomi Harper finds herself thwarted at even turn in the case of a murdered prostitute. Detective Luka Jericho investigates an apparent suicide and missing millions. Could there possibly be a link between any of these cases...? Save Her Child is the third book to feature Jericho and Wright. There are no spoilers about the outcomes and perpetrators of the crimes in the previous books although the friendship between the police team has developed. This would worked perfectly well as a stand alone novel. Leah, Luka and Naomi are investigating three very different cases. The action of the plot is fast paced as the three strands increasingly connect with each other. Each lead character has a different focus leading to a little conflict between them as they each think their own case should have priority. The team are also dealing with personal concerns as Leah struggles to adapt to being a widow and the psychological effects on her young daughter while Luka has become an adopted father to his nephew. There is further development of Naomi Harper's character and the personal side to her life experience. In particular her relationships with her adopted family members as well as an event from her teens that continues to haunt her. There is some forensic detail but this is handled objectively. Descriptions of the murder scenes are not overwhelming. The emotion in this book for me comes from Naomi's interactions with her family, her determination to find justice for the murdered teen, and Leah's anguish for the missing woman and newborn. Save Her Child is a very enjoyable police crime thriller with engaging lead characters.
Save Her Child' by CJ Lyons is the third book in the Detective Luka Jericho and crisis intervention doctor Leah Wright. Set in Cambria City Pennsylvania this has been an excellent series and 'Save Her Child' shows me it still is just that. Leah discovers a woman in labour at the county fair. She is so scared all she will tell Leah his her first name, Beth. Leah asks Luka if he will help her with this. Luka says yes but needs her to interview a widow whose husband has recently died but she seems not to be 100% truthful in answers or reactions. Together they discover both cases are linked by the father of the newest member of Luka's team at work, Naomi Harper who has her own case to work. She is leading the investigation in the killing of a local prostitute, Lily. Little do all three realise that the link goes further than they all think. Another Jericho and Wright instalment that is again an immersive and exciting read. As always we see the stress of their investigations and also the strains on their family lives. A story which has characters that all play a strong part in the story. I am really getting to know Leah and Luka better with each book published and now Naomi is introduced. She is an excellent addition that I am looking to getting to know better in the future. A plot of multiple strands that C.J Lyons manages to pull together to give the reader the full picture of greed, betrayal and crime. As always she has incorperated the twists and turns she is so skilled at in this story and they kept me on my toes! I really couldn't get enough of this book, I just kept turning the pages until I really had to go to bed. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the copy of the book.
