As I read through Introduction, already I knew I would love this book! It was easy to read with a conversational tone, yet professional—truly well-written! The table of contents promises a wealth of craft information for anyone learning to write fiction. Overall, this book addresses story aspects I haven’t seen discussed in other craft books. For example, we understand the role of a “wise guy,” or mentor, for a main character. One of the authors in this book, however, suggests writers ask what kind of help the protagonist needs and what kind of expertise will get them where they’re going (page 105). The book includes good, practical examples that will be helpful in my writing. Also, the examples are fresh and new. The three authors’ voices blend well throughout the book. I plan to use this book as a workbook, rereading it with a highlighter, and write my way through my story.
