Frank Roderus
97 books7 followersFrank Roderus wrote his first story—it was a western—when he was five. It was really awful, as might be expected, but his mother kept that typed and spell-checked short story tucked away until the day she died.
Later, Frank became a newspaper reporter, thinking that books are written by authors which he most assuredly was not. He kept trying to write though, and eventually did it wrong enough to learn how to get it right. That first sale, a young adult novel published by Independence Press, was more than thirty years and a good many books ago.
As a journalist, the Colorado Press Association awarded Frank Roderus their highest award, the Sweepstakes Award, for the best news story of 1980, and the Western Writers of America has twice named Frank recipient of their prestigious Spur Award. Frank passed away at age 73 in December 2015.

OK book, but character is moral ambiguity took me out of the story.
I am usually not into westerns or western apocalypse stories but this one wasn’t bad. The only problem I have with the story is the character is moral ambiguity, for goodness sake‘s the people he crosses in this book are murderers, kidnappers, rapist and thieves. Why would you have any moral qualms about putting them in the ground? My other issue was at the end of the book why would you people alive who will come after you later, I’m assuming this is some sort of plot device but it’s old hat. Get rid of them, move on to new enemies. I hope in the next book the characters development will grow somewhat I’m about to start it as soon as I finish this review. To sum up I do like the premise I just don’t like the characters moral decisions. It is worth the read.

Atomic bombs and Western stories
This is an excellent book, after the bombs go off Him takes refuge deep underground. When he emerges he discovers that he can we perfectly in the dark but is nearly blind by day.
Rescuing Reba, a woman who was kidnapped by wilders, Jim decides to help her get home to her family.
After being ambushed Jim is left for dead and Reba once more taken, Jim follows and is determined to rescue her again.
A must read for all lovers of post apocalyptic and Western stories.

I throughly enjoyed reading this post-apocalyptic/dystopian novel. Craig Martelle is one of my favorite authors I love the genre so I didn’t hesitate to try a series he co-wrote. And, I'm really glad I did. I read it straight through. Nightwalker certainly gives a very surprising twist and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Now, I'm off to read book 2 in this series.

Post-apocalyptic tale
Enjoyable start to a series with an honorable mc, boosted by...? We don’t know and neither does he. I appreciate his moral code but letting scumbags go (and several times) seems to be asking for trouble down the line. It will be interesting to see if/how that comes back to bite him.

Great start to a series. Well written and holds your interest throughout the book. First time I have read anything written by Frank Roderus and I can't wait to read more of his works. Craig Martelle has again teamed up for another great series. This is definitely a book that will keep you invested in the story from start to finish. I can't wait to read the complete series.

A Lone Wolfe
While reading an omnibus edition containing multiple first stories from series by Craig Martelle, I was delighted to encounter this book. I had no idea what to expect from a post-apocalyptic western adventure, so I embarked on this journey ready for anything. I enjoyed every page of it and cannot wait to read book two!

Great post-apocalyptic Western
I'm a fan of Frank Roderus and love Craig Martelle's Terry Walton. Craig does a great job blending his voice into Nightwalker and I'm truly looking forward to more in this series of adventures

An interesting series
I’ve enjoyed reading this book, it has an interesting storyline as well as interesting characters. It’s interesting that the main character is able to keep his honor in an apocalyptic world.

Surprisingly good.
I was searching Amazon for something to read. Didn’t want anything heavy, just a fun read. The byline caught my interest and thought to give it a try. Sure glad I did. Now I am going back and get the rest of the books. Highly recommend this series.

Good
I really enjoyed this book. It was different from the normal post-apocalyptic fiction I normally read in that it did not a lot of real action sequences that you normally find in that kind of genre. But that gave a different vibe to the book.

Good!
I was pleasantly surprised with that one! As I'm not too much into westerns, I was a little bit reluctant to try it but the post apocalyptic side caught my attention and, as it was free with my subscription, I gave it a try and now I'm beginning book 5!

Great read!
I received this book at no cost to me, but the opinion is my own. This was a fun action/thriller for youth/young adult, an accidental hero who had avoided a nuclear war.

Good Start to the Series
Traveling around a desolate landscape after a nuclear apocalypse. This moved along at a good pace Jim Wolfe comes out of a shelter after a nuclear war, he wonders around getting a feel for his new world.

steep learning curve for the hero
I love books where the good guys are clearly good and the bad guys are clearly bad. This fit the bill well. Learning to survive after the Blast, and learning how to fight and defend himself. Interesting survival tactics.

Good page turner
Good character writing and interesting take on posts apocalyptic adventures. Can't wait to read more of Wolfe's adventures to see where to story goes and maybe get a better understanding of the how and why of the main character.

Reminds me of "The Book of Eli"
To a certain extent, with everyone thinking he's blind. Isometrics, who'd a thunk? Of course he had all the right stuff so it makes sense. Great read!

A most excellent read
Normally I shy away from post-apocalyptic books but this one was a great and compelling read. Will definitely be seeking out others in the series.

Surprisingly good short read, despite the cliff hanger and no resolutions it manages to not feel like half of a book.

An FR Apocalyptic Novel After a Nuclear War
FR had penned a novel of the year future where one country starts an underworld war by sending Nuclear bombs to Russia, China and the US. The three retaliate and there targets include each other. Russia wants the upper hand over China and vice versa but both fear the US so they used the US as a target also not knowing that ninety percent of the a nuclear weapons the US has were aimed at China and Russia. This novel is about one of the survivors. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
