When an Underworld goddess is unleashed in Las Vegas, all Hades breaks loose. They call me The Punisher. Because that’s my job—to punish those who have committed heinous crimes. But my official title, as one of the three Furies, is Avenger of Murder. I don’t mind it, but it’s not entirely accurate. Avenger implies vengeance, which implies personal . My job is not personal. I have no stake in the matter. Right is right and wrong is wrong. If you choose wrong and the law doesn’t discipline you, you can bet your ass that I will. So it was never personal. Until today. Today I learned that my sister, Alecto, was taken. Despite being banned from the mortal realm for killing a human, the gods want to send me back to find her. Except I’m not going alone. They’re forcing me to team up with a mortal lawman whose last case was tracking similar disappearances. The man tests my every nerve and comes dangerously close to inciting my fury. And, if I’m being honest, my desire. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a slew of demons keep getting in the way, there’s a maniac working ancient black magic, and we have to find my sister before the gateway closes on the night of the new moon—which is mere days away—or be trapped forever. Not exactly the week I had planned. Now, if I can just suffer the scorching sun and blinding lights of Las Vegas without killing anyone—and without giving in to my temptation to both punch and kiss the lawman—we may make it out of here alive. Previously titled Sin City Goddess.

This book was an interesting mix of Greek Gods and others including many Norse Gods. The thought that Tartarus and the Underworld is still functioning exactly the same way it did in the Greek age leads to some interesting questions. What happened to the River Lethe if Charon only guards Styx? Also why are the Elysium Fields not mentioned? I am sure these are questions for another book hehe! The historical figures (like Wild Bill) made the world much more real and believable.
The tiny bit of forbidden romance added intrigue to the mystery and suspense. Intricate plans fell apart the longer they were in our world which added to the comedy. Half the time Tisi had absolutely no idea what people were talking about as she had been away from the mortal world so long... since the time oh John Wayne Gacy. The action and adventure rounded out the plot nicely. Poor Archer had absolutely no idea what Tisi would do next or what fresh scrape she would get them into with her cluelessness. The at times slap stick comedy really livened up the story immensely.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal mysteries or modern fantasy. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.
I fell in love with Barbra's writing after reading her Stacy Justice series and I knew that after that I would read anything she had to write.
I was so very happy to see that she was coming out with a new series that I didn't even hesitate to pick this one up and dive right in.
Goddesses, gods, demons, monsters and a murderer on the loose, all in Sin City? What’s not to love?
I really enjoyed this, it was a lot of fun. It had just the right amount of intrigue, action, romance, mythology lore and of course danger.
I loved how Barbra incorporated her Stacy Justice series into this with glimpses of Stacy and Chance and I really liked Tisi's hard as nails no nonsense attitude but the fact that she still had a softer side.
The banter between the gods and goddesses was great and I loved the dynamic of the group.
Archer was wonderful and I liked the chemistry between him and Tisi. Once again it was wonderful to see a canine companion in this novel, Cerberus was a fun addition and he reminded me a lot of Thor from Stacy's books.
I really think this series has a lot of potential. I am really looking forward to future installments.
I really loved the world building and mythology connections. There was a definite sense of direction. I really appreciated Tisiphone and her attitude. Vengeance versus revenge.
Okay, and Cerebrus was oddly adorable with Indigo. Overall, the story had great emotional connection and relationships within the pantheon. Tisi's relationship with the other gods were enjoyable.
And the story has a ton of action. Easy to visualize Vegas here. Plus, I kind of loved Tisi's temper when she first arrives in Sin City. It's a great first scene.
The romance felt a bit shoehorned and out of place. Not bad, just mostly unnecessary. Felt like a friends with benefit over the fated mates push.
Content warnings for children murder and violence against women. Also storyline with a known murderer in the real world. Heads up for that. That and the romance knocked it down a full star.
A Fury and the shade of a FBI agent are sent to Vegas after her sister goes missing.
What I enjoyed: * I liked Tisi trying to fit in the mortal realm * Cerebus!!! * The way they could interact with the gods was interesting * A couple appearances by Stacy Justice
What could have been better: * It seemed slow * Didn't really get any sense of chemistry between Tisi and Archer * Was supposed to be a series, but hasn't been another book and this was published in 2013
I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were wonderful. The story was a great mix of mystery and mythological. I'll be honest it was slow in some places but the chapters are short so it usually made up for it. I enjoyed the action and the relationship between Archer and Tisi. The fact that Tisi was at loss for what people were talking about sometimes and the modern world made a lot instances funny ( It had been awhile since she was on the mortal plane). I loved who was used as a bad guy because in real life he was such a nasty criminal.
Towards the end I became more interested in Rumour and I hope there will be a story written about her. She's an interesting character.
It was a fun read and I am looking forward to more in this series also I think I'll be grabbing the Stacy Justice ones as well.
I found the humor a bit out of place given the kidnapping, torture/mutilation, and murder. I felt it tried too hard. Tisi came across as an idiot, not to mention selfish. The romance was meh.
I enjoyed each aspect of Sin City Goddess. The mythological side as well as the mystery side, they are blended together wonderfully. Reading about Greek Gods characters when they are humanized is is something I enjoy and Barbra does a wonderful job of doing that. Tisi is an awesome character. Being a Fury she's a badass and tough as nails but we get to see her big heart and her compassionate side as well. I also enjoyed Stacy making a cameo appearance in this book, Just as Tisi has made a small cameo appearance in the Stacy Justice series. Maybe there will be books in the future that incorporate both sets of characters. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
This was a fun and sexy book. Loved the different view on the Greek gods. I've read a lot of books with variations of the Greek mythology as it is one of my favorites and this book definitely has a new and different spin on it.
The characters are funny and likable, well except for those two. You'll know whom when you read it. But you're not supposed to like them anyway.
The narration is excellent and enhanced the story. I will be checking out other books by this narrator and author.
I loved the story and characters. This new series is a little more serious, less humorous, than the Stacy Justice series. But it is just as awesome. The bad guys in the book were seriously bad, so there was a good bit of suspense there. But the book was in no way "dark" which was a relief. While their was not a lot of humor, there was some, and the quirky characters gave a lighter feel to the suspenseful nature of the storyline. It was a great read.
Audio book review This is a great audio story . It is a PNR one . There are lots of paranormal in this one Greek , but not only Greek but Viking ones also . First one I heard from the author . This story had a mixture of mystery, suspense and everything your looking for . The action and bantor between Archer and Tisi .
Valerie was great telling this story . Her voice is smooth, strong and she does all the acts perfectly
When Tisiphone is Sent to Vegas to find her missing sister all Hell breaks loose! Follow the poker playing Fury on her adventure in Sin City assisted by a dead FBI agent, a tiny purple dragon, and Cerberus. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It is entertaining, innovative, and includes all the cool gods and goddesses in the pantheon. This is a wonderful main character! I want her as my new BFF!
"Fury Rising" is an amazing read! I only tried this to hold me over until my next Stacy Justice fix, and I'm so glad I did! Dark and gritty, with an imaginative mix of fantasy and reality...this is fine storytelling. Tisiphone is not exactly likeable, but she's definitely worthy of respect, and Archer could use more development; however, this feels like the start of another winning series for this author.
An interesting twist of story after the Stacy Justice books
I felt that the beginning of the book was a bit slow before the events became interesting. After that, I was riveted by the book until the very end! I will definitely read more books in this series. It was unique and interesting with some intrigue and gore thrown into the mix!
This was really enjoyable. I love Tisi, Indigo, her sword, Cerebeus who was always my favorite three headed dog (so glad he was nice in the ideation) and of course Archer (so glad he is a demigod)
loved this book. it had me laughing and on the edge of my seat.
Hope there will be a second book. Loved the interactions. Tisiphone gave me something’s to think about. She is a very strong young lady. Loved that Stacy Justice made an appearance in this book.
I love this author! This is the second series of hers that I am reading. Crossover characters but you don't have to read both series to understand the series. I highly recommend that you read both.
Like it slow at first then picked up. Some surprise s here and there introducing another character from the authors novel. Then a surprise infamous historical murder.
I read the Stacy Justice series first and was g!ad to see Tisiphone in this one and get her story. An different perspective on the Gods, lots of humor and just enough intrigue and horror.
Well done Barbra on another excellent tale told. Fabulous storyline, great characters and a kick arse heroine, all the ingredients for a fantastic read.
An entertaining and imaginative story. Well written with a fast paced storyline. Lots of action and suspense mixed in with Greek mythology. Highly recommend.
This is a dark and sometimes disturbing novel. The action is nonstop. Really good, and keeps you guessing. Real life events are woven into the storyline.
