What was life like for Christians in AD 284? For years, Christians had lived in peace. But when a new Roman emperor, Diocletian, came to power, he unleashed his fury on the church.
In this work of historical fiction, author Lester Bauman weaves known facts into a readable story that provokes serious thought for Christians today.
This was a great book about the early church during the persecution under Roman Emperor Diocletian. It put faces and feelings to the people of that time and spurred me into thinking how I would react under the circumstances that they faced. Since this is historical fiction, it was a fairly easy read for me. I would highly recommend it!
I have mixed feelings about this book. It isn't very good writing, in my opinion, but its portrayal of the church during the early 300s is valuable. I would recommend it if you want to learn about the early church, but don't have too high expectations for the storytelling quality.
the historical content is valuable. My previous conceptions of Diocletian were challenged. As well as some notions about Christians in this tumultuous era. Thought-provoking.
