Tarō Hitsuji (羊太郎, Hitsuji Tarō/Tarou) is the author of the Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor Light Novel and Memory Records of Bastard Magic Instructor series.
A long, long time ago, there was a special knight. As the strongest knight in the Legendary Era, Sid Blishe served under the wise king, Astola. However, according to history, Sid was an evil rebel in the end. Apparently, he killed a lot of people and had a demonic personality. So, his other name was the "Barbarian." Yes, as the "Barbarian," he was killed by his former master, King Astola. Thus, the best knight, Sid, suddenly became the worse knight because of that. Even a thousand years later, his name is still infamous.
That curtain was supposed to end, but mysteriously, Sid revives a thousand years later. The summoner is Prince Alvin. According to the latter, he did all of this to save the kingdom. But will the "Barbarian" Sid Blishe really serve him? Furthermore, why resurrect him? He's supposed to be the infamous rebel, but oddly enough, Alvin has a deep trust in him. Perhaps, Sid's rebellion had another reason behind it?
This was a great novel! Honestly, because I like Taro Hitsuji (the author), I bought this book without reading the synopsis. So, I didn't have that high of expectations for this one, but this was a really great story. As usual, Hitsuji's world is very easy to understand while still having a very interesting world setting. The politics, the kingdom, the demon country, the magic, the characters—all of it are interesting.
Personally, my favorite character is Prince Alvin. He is very inexperienced, but he works his hardest to advance forward. So, I look forward to his growth!
Casually sexist from the first chapter and in really dated ways, even for light novels. Gave it four chapters and regretted it. Don't know if it's the translation or original novel that makes the prose so weak, but that didn't help. Even is what you're looking for is fan service and weak female characters, there are much better places to get that.
