If you're looking for a short weekend relaxing read, this is your book.

Do not be misled by the happy tone of the cover, because the stories are dark-themed and will leave you in disbelief. Delicate by Anjali Karmakar is a debut book of short stories and poems capturing the myriad facets of life in the Indian suburbs. The stories and poems capture death, nostalgia, love, friendship, trust and betrayal. With Delicate, Karmakar captures every mood that makes our life worth remembering. The stories are articulated with the magic of extraordinary emotions seen in our ordinary lives. Every story is like a flight on a runway, a sudden take-off which keeps you seated but at the same time makes you wonder 'What just happened?' Karmakar knows what her audience wants.

The short stories in this book really stood out to me. Some of them got very dark and twisted, while some got my blood boiling over their events. And of course, the sweet ones that brought a smile to my face. They are filled with flawed, realistic characters and I love how their issues are addressed in the stories. There is a mini-novella short story, with a really messed up protagonist which is something to absolutely look out for! That was the highlight of the book for me.
The poems were good, they were easy on the eyes. But they did not really stand out for me. With the short stories, I was on a high with the book, but the poems brought them down. Individually, the poems are really great, but not close to how the short stories were and they kind of flattened the book towards the end.
Over all it is an amazing read. I definitely recommend this book. A high emphasis on keeping some tissues handy, because this book gets brutal and very, very real.

Intresting read

This book is one of the best book I read this month. The stories were totally fab and kept me on the edge. There was a dark tone in a writing. Stories and even the poems well like, everything is going good and suddenly something happened that we shake you to the core.

Overally, It was an interesting read. The language was lucid as well. The characters and plots of the stories were well crafted.

📖 Delicate: Chronicles of a suburban girl by Anjali Karmakar

📖 Probably the most realistic collection of short stories I have read recently. From the first page of the preface itself, the book hooked me till the end only because of the writing style, maintaining the thrill and themes, and the realistic touch. One might call it a fictional compilation but I will suggest it based on true incidents. The added picture at the beginning of each story gives a different essence and minimalistic approach to the stories. Some stories will make you happy and reminiscing about your past happy days some will shook to the core for the nightmarish events. The underlying themes are circled trauma, disease, happiness, betrayal, love, bonding, psychology, care, and abuse.

📖 Apart from 'Doom' and 'Be a man' none of the other four poems didn't glue me that much. And for the short stories, each story has been crafted so well that the ending will leave you speechless. In 'Tell me your dreams' I can assure you, you won't see that ending coming. On one hand, while the story 'Memories' will make you blush and later sad in a flash, on other hand, 'Happy 13th birthday' will make your blood boil.

🍁 As a whole a short compilation that holds a lot more than its page counts. Go for it. Recommending it. Hope you will love reading this book. Until then, happy reading.
