Gabby had been all set to start her new life after her mother had recently died and her marriage had ended. The plan was to buy her sister out of her half of the house, they had been left from their mother, using the money from her divorce settlement. But things went downhill quickly when the bank put a stop on her account.

Gabby was dead, or so the bank had been informed, then her whole life crumbled as everywhere else that could confirm her identity followed suit. Her life became impossible to live as a registered dead person. It wasn’t as easy as just ringing people up and saying she was alive. Someone had gone to great lengths to do this, but why?

Entre this dynamic duo of Private Investigators, husband and wife Peddyr and Connie Quirk. They were Quirk by name and quirky by nature. I took to them immediately and loved watching the real them come out when they were alone. The story fascinated me as layer after layer, was peeled away, before I could fully understand everything.

The story doesn’t race away, it is one of discovery looking back as well as looking forward and connecting the dots to make a full picture. I got more than I bargained for. What a conclusion. I am, looking forward to more of The Quirk Files again soon.

I wish to thank the publisher for an e-copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.

This grabbed me from the start & it’s the beginning of what I think is going to be a great series.
Edited. I’ve just listened to the audiobook. Absolutely fabulous! It just brought this to life even more. Ah honestly it’s a great listen.
Narrator was fab, just kept the tempo & voices alive. Excellent!

Gabriella Dixon finds that life is difficult to live when someone has registered your death. In the middle of a divorce, unable to use her bank accounts, or work, Gabriella engages husband and wife PI team Peddyr and Connie Quirk to look into how this could have happened.

And that's what I was thinking as I was reading - how is this possible? The hows and the whys are explained as the story progresses, with some plot twists along the way. I thought this was a really interesting and entertaining read. It's more suspenseful than a thriller, with some great humour mixed into it.

This is a cleaver and well thought out crime mystery that is the first in a new series. Morgan again delivers an original idea to the crime genre which has resulted in a great story. I highly recommend it.

Over Her Dead Body by AB Morgan is the first book I have read by this author. I loved it. Peddyr Quirk is a PI called in to help Gabby find out who has declared her dead. Whoever is behind it has gone to some lengths to achieve chaos in Gabby's life. Love the characters and the ending was terrific. It was a great read.

Gabby Dixon moves into her late Mother’s home after a difficult divorce. She’s not there long before she finds out someone has registered her death! Could it be her ex husband playing games? Gabby’s solicitor calls on the services of P.I Peddyr Quirk and his wife Connie. Can they find out who is playing games with Gabby?

This was an interesting story and certainly caught my attention. There were great characters and some dark humour along the way. The author certainly caught me out a few times, I was convinced I had worked it all out a few times, only to be proven wrong!

I hope that there are plans for this to be a series as I especially enjoyed the characters of Peddyr and Connie. If you fancy something different to read, then you won’t go wrong with this book.

I have been a fan of this author’s books since she published her very first novel. They are always exciting, full of well though out nerve tingling twists and turns. Each written in such a way that they are a joy to read. So when I received a copy of Over Her Dead Body, I started reading it with eager anticipation and boy was rewarded with yet another top quality thriller.

In this her latest novel A B Morgan treats us to a story of a life ended, on paper at least. Gabby Dixon is forced to fight to regain control of events that are spiralling out of control around her, or face ruin and possibly death. She hires a husband and wife team of private detectives to discover who has launched such a horrifying vendetta against her.

What I loved about Over Her Dead Body was how the writer delivered a multi layered tale of betrayal, with complex levels of character development and managed to avoid losing control of the narrative, delivering a story that worked on so many levels. It felt at all times like I was sat on the edge of my seat, my chest twittering with anticipation, anxiety spiralling out of control. A B Morgan created those emotions, by writing a story which never loses it’s sense of pace. Best of all, she lays false trails for you to follow, so that when the next twist hits, I literally didn’t see them coming.

The way she weaves events around Gabby is exceptional, because pace and narrative are backed up with superb characters. I whipped through the chapters at a rate of knots because I had to know what happened to her and who was ultimately responsible for the terrifying events consuming Gabby. This came about because A B Morgan made me care about this vulnerable person, ensuring she was not a one dimensional character, regulated to a supporting role in her own story. So many thrillers make the victim a simple helpless pawn, but here Gabby is an integral part of events. This made me more invested in her troubles and her ultimate fate! Especially poignant was how the writer used her mental health background to draw a character, whose hidden depths are full of fractured and displaced memories, anxieties that lead to impulsive acts, all of which make her much easier to manipulate. Believability making her spiralling loss of control all the more chilling!

In support she introduced a range of characters, some with more active roles than others, all of whom I thought were at one point or another responsible for Gabby’s life unravelling around her. There is the disgruntled sister, who was written with an innate understating of sibling rivalries and how destructive they can become. Then there is a creepy neighbour and spectre’s from past events, sending ripples into the story, to muddy the waters and unbalance the readers perception of events.

Best of all are Peddyr and Connie Quirk, whom I loved both for their skills as private de detectives, their intelligence and their warmth. So often the police or private detectives are written as grumpy. moody characters and it was a breath of fresh air to meet a more light hearted depiction that didn’t lesson their roles in the story. I’m so glad we will get to meet them again, because they bring a sense of amused calm to the story. They act like guides through the possible scenarios, helping the reader to understand the complex narrative and by the end they feel like friends you really want to spend more time with. Lucky for us we will!

Sometime late last year, I signed up to become a member of the Hobeck Advanced Readers Team. As a result, I have been sent a variety of books to read and provide an honest review for. One such book was, Over Her Dead Body (The Quirk Files Book 1), by AB Morgan.

Gabby Dixon is dead. That’s news to her…

The reader is quickly brought into Gabby’s world as it crumbles around her, sharing her confusion and desperation at what can have gone so wrong for her to be officially declared dead! After that, a puzzle ensues to figure out who did what and why, who can or cannot be trusted, and where on earth this is all leading.

I was particularly drawn to Over Her Dead Body, knowing that this is the first book of a series featuring husband and wife Private Investigators, Peddyr and Connie Quirk, whose skills and expertise are called upon to help Gabby get to the bottom of her predicament. As a former PI myself, I am aware that the job is often unrealistically portrayed in fiction but, here, it is no less entertaining in its realism, and these are characters I will be keen to follow in future books.

Just halfway into 'Over Her Dead Body,' I was already looking forward to more in the series. These are terrifically fun and interesting characters. The book is well-researched, as evidenced by what I would consider an entirely plausible plot, along with the author's experience of working in mental health services. This might be one of those scenarios that seem rather far-fetched, yet could conceivably happen to somebody. I wonder, would others have made the same choices that Gabby makes later in the book? Perhaps yes. I am trying not to give away too much because the twists are lovely, and I want you to enjoy them!

Over Her Dead Body is the first book in The Quirk Files and introduces us to husband and wife private investigator team, Peddyr and Connie Quirk.

Gabby is recently divorced and looking forward to building her new life. But there’s one little problem – she’s dead! Not really, but someone has taken stolen identity to a whole new level and, on paper, she’s legally dead. Trying to prove she isn’t, is a bit tricky to say the least and her life is crumbling around her rapidly. We meet some great characters along the way, not least the Quirks who I couldn’t help but warm to immediately, whilst we join the rollercoaster ride with Gabby encountering deceit and dark humour along the way.

If you want a ‘Whodunnit’ with a difference, then definitely give this book a try. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series to see what the Quirks get up to next.

Today's read was Over Her Dead Body by #alisonmorgan

It is based on the story of Gabby, she's just finalising her divorce, her mother has just passed away, and Gabby has uprooted everything to move into her mother's old house.
However shortly after her arrival everything goes wrong when she is declared dead.
Between her solicitor and a private investigator they try and unravel the mystery.
It goes back to Gabbys childhood and is linked to the birth of her sister. She had a bang to the head and has memory lapses. Who can she trust.
This was brilliant. Totally different to anything I've read before and twists and turns all over the place. This is the first of Alisons books I've read, it won't be the last

A really enjoyable read. What a original concept of what happens if you are declared dead but are actually alive. After knowing about the one and done service whereby you declare a person dead to one service and it contacts all on your behalf such as passport driving licence Council tax, when this is done in error you quickly run out of items to prove who you say you are. The most shocking thing is it isn't actually a crime! The story of Gabby untimely and false death had me doubting myself at where the story was going all the way through to the end. I picked up on subtle clues ( or so I thought) but then the story twisted and another suspect arose. Fully reccomend this book

This was a real page-turner for me. A "one more chapter" book, in which the end of each chapter makes it impossible to put it down, "just yet".

Our main character is not dead, except, she is. Someone has registered her as being dead, technically killing her, with her being very much breathing and alive. But, who? And why?

At first, few seem to have a motive. Then, almost everyone seems to have a motive. Did I uncover the culprit before the end of the book? I had my suspicions, as with many of the characters involved. But the ending? Not what I was expecting - at all.

A. B. Morgan, you did a fantastic job!

Someone has declared Gabby dead... but who? It’s very inconvenient, because she’s not dead and now she’s unable to access her bank accounts etc. Money soon threatens to run out, and she employs private investigator Peddyr Quirk and his wife Connie to get to the bottom of just who is doing this to her – and why.
Over Her Dead Body is the first book in A.B. Morgan’s new series, and it’s full of charm, mystery, humour and great characters – and I certainly didn’t guess the ending!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Full of twists and turns and a vague uncomfortable feeling as you imagined being in Gabriella’s shoes. Is it really that easy to declare someone dead?! Gasp!
Never saw the ending coming and it galloped to it a little fast for me. Felt a little rushed. I wanted a showdown and I didn’t get it. Hence the 4 stars.
Love a series and am looking forward to getting to know Peddyr a lot better.

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. The story is about Gabby Dixon who suddenly finds everything in her life shuts down as she is declared dead! She can’t use her phone or her bank cards and hits a brick wall at every step she takes to try and prove she is alive and that it’s been a case of mistaken identity.

Private investigator Peddyr Quirk and his wife are engaged to try to help Gabby.

The book was a real page turner and gives an insight into Gabby’s life and relationships both current and past.

Definitely worth a read and I want to read more of PI Quirk’s cases.

A clever concept to keep you on your toes! Gabriella is dead. She was going through a divorce and moving house when two men arrived at the door to collect a debt for her funeral and advise her of this. As she keeps saying “Im very much alive” but no-one believes her which leaves her in rather a pickle legally and financially. Her bank accounts have been suspended as legally she doesn’t exist hence her divorce money can't come through and she cant open a new account as she is technically dead. She ends up employing a private investigator to try and get the bottom of this and bring her back to life- at least on paper. Peddyr is a real character as is his wife, and I couldn't help but think of him as a little like Cormorant Strike (Robert Galbraith)- a larger than life character with a heart of gold and an excellent sense of humour. I thoroughly enjoyed this- its a very clever concept and plot and when you think you have it sussed- bang there’s a twist.
A wonderful page turner that captivated me right from the beginning. A treasure of a read.

Can you imagine waking up one day to discover you’re dead? Your bank account’s closed because you’ve been certified dead, but no one bothered to tell you. The bailiffs are at the door, your car has been impounded and your employers can’t pay your salary.

The premise was irresistible and though I didn’t know the author, I dived straight into this entertaining and enjoyable story that’s part psychological suspense and part private investigator. While the subject matter’s a little dark at times, it’s lightened by the characters and generous dashes of humour throughout.

Peddyr Quirk and his fabulous wife, Connie, the private investigators who take the case, are perfectly suited to Gabby Dixon’s unusual dilemma. With their help, she starts to find out who is doing this to her and why. As layers are peeled away, deep family issues and a teenage tragedy come to the surface. As more of the past is unlocked, the truth becomes more sinister than Gabby could ever have imagined.

I really enjoyed this! It most definitely was quirky! It was a different spin on mysteries and I loved how this had such a fresh feel to it. I couldn't imagine one day finding out I was dead when I was very much living and breathing but that's what happened to Gabby Dixon!

I love how we follow most of the story through her eyes, with chapters from Peddyr. I was mainly reading this book, and flying through it when I got the chance to sit and read, however, as soon as I saw there was an audiobook and the author narrated it, I got me a copy! Boy, it didn't disappoint! I love the fact that the author narrated it because she knew how she wanted her characters to sound and this made them launch themselves off the page and into my front room.

I followed them all over, I followed the clues, and I did feel for Gabby and the betrayal she had experienced. The ending just happened, I didn't realise I was at the end until Morgan said it!! I did find that a bit meh. I think I was expecting a big bang, but it was more of a low-key affair.

I do love that there are more of Peddyr and Connie's books! I will most definitely listen to these, as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with them! I just need to catch up with them! The author has a knack for making you feel at ease as if you are enjoying a nice cuppa, relaxing while she takes you on her mysterious journey. The writing is fun, and there were some laugh-out-loud moments. I really did enjoy this murder mystery and I was completely off the point with this the person behind it all.

This is a genre that I have a huge soft spot for because even though it tackles death, everything is so light and fairy you know eventually it will be ok. And if you have Peddyr backing you, you are most definitely in safe hands....unless there's a bottle of red wine and Bernie involved!!!!

Over Her Dead Body by A.B.Morgan
Gabby had been all set to start her new life after her mother's passing and her divorce. She moves into her late mother's home, she is hoping to buy her sister out, so the house was hers, but the bank put a stop on her account; why?
Gabby is deceased; according to the bank, her whole life fails to exist.
Someone has gone to exceptional lengths to do this to her, but why?
Enter the Private Investigators, husband and wife Peddyr and Connie Quirk.
As Connie delves into Gabby's life, Peddyr is looking into the past he is getting closer to the truth.
I thought this was an interesting and engaging read.
I felt it's more a suspense novel than a thriller, but worked for me.
I was sure I had worked it all out several times, only to be proven wrong!
Over Her Dead Body is the first book in A.B. Morgan's new series.
I look forward to the next instalment.
I want to thank the TBC Reviewer Group for a copy to review.

Gabby has a lot going on in her life – recently divorced, just mover house and about to start a new job, so the last thing she needs is two men appearing on her doorstep and telling her she’s dead. Unfortunately she finds that being dead creates a whole lot of problems – no bank account or credit cards so no money, no driving licence or insurance so no car, no money so no food. The police aren’t interested so in order to get her life back she needs to find out who hates her so much to do this to her. With the help of Stella (her BFF) Bernie (her solicitor) and the Quirks (her PI team) she starts to look into her past for answers…..

A really original, chilling tale, loved the quirky (pun intended!) PI team and all the twists in the story. Well worth a read.

The first in a new series called The Quirk Files. What an original story. I enjoyed this a lot and there were plenty of twists and turns to keeps even the most ardent thriller reader confused. Well I was.

Briefly, Gabby Logan moves into her parents old house following the split between her and her husband. It was meant to be a new start but everything goes wrong when she finds her bank accounts frozen as she is dead! Gradually, her life falls apart and with her only friend living in Spain, she turns to a detective agency run by Peddyr and Connie Quirk for help.

Well written with a great storyline, this was a great start to a new series and I look forward to reading book 2. 5* read.

Gabby is very surprised to find out that she's Dead especially when in reality she's very much alive. Someone has declared her deceased and is attempting to ruin her life. I really enjoyed this book especially the opening third as the realisation starts to hit Gabby and how severely difficult its becoming to do normal every day things. The more she looks into matters along with a friend, her solicitor and a PI, then the more unpleasant secrets unfold. I did feel that the middle third dragged a bit but the last few chapters had me hoping that all would get resolved as Gabby gets closer to the truth. A really unusual and interesting read. Definitely recommended

This is a great read, filled with unexpected twists & larger than life characters, all taking their place in the puzzle over Gabriella Dixon’s untimely death. The only problem is that Gabriella is very much alive & kicking. Trapped in a circle of frozen bank accounts & assets, our heroine turns to Peddyr Quirk, private investigator & all-round good egg, to help find out who wishes her dead. Every chapter is a joy, the web of intrigue woven tighter at each turn & causing more than a few gasps, until finally in the last chapter, you can breath again, mystery unravelled & a superbly satisfying ending delivered.

Great start to a new series! From the beginning of this story, I liked Gabbie and her down to earth personality. The characters of Peddyr and Connie Quirk fit so perfectly into this story with their unique personalities and the way they interact with one another. I felt so many emotions as I read this book from frustration for Gabbie to horrifying surprise at some of the twists and turns that happen. I will be on the lookout for the next book in the series. A really entertaining book full of twists and turns that are there to make the reader question everything they think they’ve worked out about the premise of this book.
Excellently written with a tight storyline and characters that really seem to come off the page.
A unique story idea that gripped me as a reader and ‘forced’ me to read the book in one sitting (very little effort to force me it was an excellent read that just made me want to know what came next 😉)

Unusual, Twisty, Loved it.

No Spoilers!

Premise: Young Lady finds out something very bad has happened to her….It gets worse….. there’s a wonderfully created private investigator and slow drip of new characters that come into play.

It’s one of those books were you keep thinking you’ve worked it out and then, nope you haven’t, with reasons always plausible why this is so.
It works really well, great fun, great ending.

great start to a series- I loved the Quirks and the first case is certainly a humdinger...dead but not dead and unable to prove herself alive Gabby is stuck with frozen bank accounts and no idea why, or who has registered her demise.
With plenty of twists to keep you guessing this is a fast paced read. I hope the Quirks get many more wierd and wonderful cases to solve!
