Suits by Steve Lewis - STORY 3+/5★ / SHOW 4/5★
A colony of farmsteads on Tau Ceti is attacked by aliens aka dimensional beings (DeeBees) and the farmers must use their exomechs to fight them.
I liked that the story involves several more families, but as a minus it is too big on gun details (caliber, range, etc) for my taste. The episode has a more limited cast, but I liked it more.

Suits the LD+R episode: Great!
Suits the short story: ...very much not so good.
If you want a version of the story in which women do nothing but stay in the kitchen and do the background work to support their men (because driving a mech is just too much for a woman?), then buy the text version of the story.
If you believe a woman could drive a mech just as easily as a man could, then go enjoy the LD+R episode.
