---------------------------------------------
Garden Girl, Lucy Carlson, has started a new business venture, Lucy’s Lucky Strike, a gun safety and training course. Things are off to a promising start when a local farming family books a class after being targeted by a disturbing string of anonymous threats.
Unfortunately, the class doesn’t go as planned and the police are called in.
Just hours after attending the class, the family’s matriarch is found dead and the authorities find an important clue that leads right back to Lucy.
As if being part of a police investigation isn’t bad enough, Lucy’s life is turned upside down with a life changing family crisis of her own.
Will Gloria & the Garden Girls get to the bottom of who is behind the murder or will Lucy spend her golden years behind steel bars?
As the ladies begin their golden years, each one is presented with a new challenge. In this installment Gloria is out car shopping with her sister Liz. Liz has run into financial difficulties leading to her vehicle being repossessed. When Liz finds the used car she wants she won’t let Gloria talk her out of it. Gloria did convince her to take it over to their friend Lucy, to give it a once over. When Gloria and Liz arrive, the sheriff’s department is on scene trying to diffuse an argument between Lucy and a family taking her gun safety class. Although everyone leaves, Lucy knows it won’t be the end of it. She has put her blood, sweat, and tears into her new business, and an argument like this could set her back. With everyone gone, Lucy offer’s Gloria and Liz a tour of her new classroom. As they were leaving, Lucy realizes that one of her guns is missing. This did not bode well and they all new that trouble would follow. When the missing gun is involved in a murder, Lucy becomes the main suspect.
All of the Garden Girls are very likeable, and I can relate to them on so many levels. I love when a new character is introduced with the possibility of future appearances. Hope Callaghan is an author I enjoy, who writes several different series. The Garden Girls was the first series of hers that I read, and I’m always coming back for more. The Garden Girls hold a special place in my heart. I received this book as a gift. I highly recommend it!
I have enjoyed every book Hope Callahan has written but this one was special. I didn't have access to read for a few months and have a lot of series books I need to catch up on. I will always go to one written by Ms. Callahan if I have a choice and this one didn't disappoint! I love getting into new characters and new stories and I can always count on The Garden Girls to provide warm friendships along with some fun antics mixed with a bit of romance. This book had everything!!
Michigan Mayhem is the third book in Hope Callaghan’s Garden Girls – The Golden Years Cozy Mystery Series. The storyline flows smoothly, the mystery is well plotted, the well-developed characters are delightful, and even though there’s a murder, there’s humor scattered throughout the pages in this installment. There’s a limited suspect pool but no shortage of twists, turns, and red. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
When Gloria’s best friend and fellow Garden Girl, Lucy Carlson, is accused of murdering Doris Rasmussen. All the friends work hard to clear her name, even Gloria’s sister, Liz, ventures out of her comfort zone to help. Unfortunately, the evidence is strong against Lucy, and while Gloria never doubts her friend’s innocence, she fears they won’t be able to clear her name. Meanwhile, Lucy has an unexpected visitor, and Gloria receives some exciting news.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Every time I finish a Garden Girls book it's like my friends have gone on vacation where there is no cell reception. Course I feel that way about Millie& her crew in the Cruise Ship Mysteries too. I could just read anything Hope Callaghan writes. She just draws you into her stories and you feel like your right there with Gloria, Lucy, Ruth, Dot , Rose, Margaret ,Liz,crazy Evelyn & all the other friends & husbands& as some of the single ladies are on a prowl for a boyfriend.
In all of Hope's books my favorite part is how she brings the Lord into every big decision the ladies take on. They may get in some real good mysteries & mayham but it always has a good who done it in each story If you can figure out the bad guy your doing better than me!! That is a real compliment to Hope Callaghan, a fabulous author and I am sure she would be a terrific best friend to all she meets.
Retirement is anything but quiet for our garden girls. This time it's Lucy in the hot seat! How can teaching a class in gun safety turn into an arrest, time in jail and a new case for our ladies? The girls have their hands full with this one! One of Lucy's guns are stolen from a locked gun locker. The matriarch of a local family is murdered with the gun and Gloria is determined to prove Lucy is innocent. Oh...and then there's Paige, Lucy's estranged daughter who shows up on her doorstep with no where else to go after leaving the commune she had been living in for a while. Strange circumstances seem to follow her every move. What secrets is Paige hiding and how is Lucy involved? You HAVE to read this newest book!!!!!!
I have read most of your Books, starting with the original Garden Girl’s and enjoyed them all.For some reason this Book just had me shaking my head at some of the things.I can’t believe a Mother and Sister would put their Daughter and Sister in as much danger as Lucy and Gloria put Paige and Liz in.To send them to the Rasmussen home was in my opinion very dumb.I mean the whole family was dangerous.A few other things didn’t sit right but I have said enough..One out of God only knows how many of your books I have read and it is the only one I didn’t enjoy..I guess I am just disappointed but I will still keep on reading your books as they are the best ever…
This avid reader, retiree, and Michigander enjoys the antics of the Garden Girls with senior sleuth Gloria and her friends Lucy, Dot, Ruth, Margaret and Andrea. Never a dull moment throughout the story with its relatable small town Michigan characters, a twist and turn plot, red herrings, and a believable resolution. Whenever Gloria's sister Liz is added to the story, one knows mayhem will prevail. A page turning mystery that kept me guessing while laughing and reading through the night. Delicious Gloria's Haluski recipe included. The Golden Years are a season of change and the Garden Girls are a SIX PACK of trouble creating constant mayhem in Michigan.
As I live near this area and am an avid cozy mystery fan, was interested in reading this book. It was not what I expected. The characters were mostly unrelatable to me but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The personalities of the characters were not well developed. Some characters were introduced as essential to the group but were not heard from again or at least very little. One character totally disappears from the book after she has served her purpose - and she is the sister of one of the main characters. Did not read the other books in the series as this one came up alone and not part of a set.
I just finished reading 23 wonderful Hope Callaghan Garden Girls Mysteries and 3 Golden Garden Girl Christian Mysteries. I have laughed out loud and adored each twist and turn of these adventurous life long best friends. Ms. Callaghan should hit the TV. On HBO or other no commercial venues. I bet she has the best personality and sense of humor with a tribe of best buddies of her own. You must treat yourself to these wonderful stories!!!!!!!! I could read 25 more starting now!!!!!@ the best!!!!
Gloria and her Golden Girls find themselves trying to clear Lucy of murder in this adventure. Lots of action in this story including Lucy’s daughter Paige, her wild child coming home, who seems to be running from something or someone. Hope we find out more about Paige in the next book. I’m hooked on this series, as well as all of the other ones. Can’t wait to read the next one.
I was looking for a Christian cozy mystery to read and this was one that was suggested through Goodreads. I enjoyed the older female detectives; they were a breath of fresh air with their friendships and experiences. The plot was interesting and I really wasn't sure who the murderer was. If you like clean cozy mysteries, consider reading this. I will read more of the series since I liked all of the ladies and their contributions to solving the mystery.
These books just seem to be getting better. Book #3 is about Lucy. Lucy's daughter Paige comes back home just after there is a gun theft in Lucy's gun safe after a safety lesson at Lucy's gun business. The gun is used to murder an elderly woman. The police suspect Lucy. Did she do it? The Garden Girls need to try and find out before Lucy goes to prison. I highly recommend this book.
I love this series as each character shares the spotlight I enjoyed reading about My Lucy's daughter coming also Glorias sister being a part of this investigation. Really was a page turner thoroughly loved the adventure and how Ruth's spymobile saved the day.
Lucy has started her gun safety classes. The Rasmussen family starts arguing and the police are called. Lucy's daughter comes home. They learn the Rasmuss en mother is found shot and Lucy finds one of her guns is missing. Lucy is arrested for murder. Liz has to go work on a dairy farm. Serious story has funny situations good story
This is the third book in the series and is as exciting and suspenseful as ever. Almost every chapter is laden with is this really happening scenario. The ending is a huge surprise, at least for me. Highly recommended for those who love to be on the edge of their seats and try to out guess the author as to whodunit. Can' t wait for the next book.
I'm already counting my days until the next one of the series is available ! I always enjoy the garden girls escapades. I want to hang around with them ! My life seems dull in comparison. P!ease rush the next one in the series
Another excellent mystery for this intrepid group, with one of them framed for murder. The arrival of Paige, who is obviously hiding something, lends intrigue for future books.
Gloria and the Garden Girls are at it again! This time to prove the innocence of one of their own, Lucy. Prepare for a wild ride as these ladies work to solve the mystery of who did it once again!
I really enjoyed this installment of the garden girls golden years. I think the books keep getting better! I love how they come together to help one another in a time of need.
Another great story! The plot had just enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I love all the characters, both old and new. I can't wait to read the next book!
I loved this storyline!! All of the Garden Girls are especially loveable. Lol After all of my reading of Hopes books, they have become real to me. Recommend you start reading!!
