I went into reading this book blind. I had seen a Facebook post about it. I was looking for something short and sweet and the price was right so I downloaded it. I was impressed by it right away. It move pretty fast, it has to its only 106 pages long,, but is descriptive enough to build the characters and the story. It is a little rough in some places but its the debut writing for this author so I was able to look past that. Someone gave it a one star because of '"foul language " I honestly don't understand that. Because that doesn't take away from the well developed story. I honestly don't even remember reading any "foul language" I love the idea of revenge from beyond that manifests in the now and overtakes two best friends. I am excited to read book two and see how the tale continues.

I really liked this story. Things start happening in the first chapter but I expected that going in since it's under 100 pages.

Max and Sam have been BFF's since he moved to Santa Carla 6 years ago. She's his protector. They have a good bond. When theyre trapped on a creepy island a mile outside of California's coast, things get dark. This Light House already has a resident.

D.L. Strand posted in the Books of Horror Freview FB page that we could get a free copy on Amazon and after reading the book, I was happy to leave a review.

A harrowing, intense and beautifully immersive story as friends Sam and Max caught up in a dangerous storm take a desperately needed shelter within an old, crumbling lighthouse. What they pair discovers is something neither could ever explain to those that didn't the haunting visions, erie noises and ghostly presence that pit both of their lives on the edge of insanity.

Definitely recommended.

The premise is really cool, and I can kind of see what the author was reaching for here. However, I was constantly distracted by the lack of editing. I can let a grammatical error or misspelling slide, but there were pages that had the same sentences, word for word, a mere couple paragraphs apart, and it didn't seem like a stylistic choice. It removed me from the story.

I think there is a good nugget of what could be a very good paranormal horror, but this needs a little more polishing time.

In to the storm

Very well written and enjoyable. Nice character development where you really feel connected to the characters. 4 stars because too short. This could easily been a horror fiction novel. I feel like this author can do more than a few short stories and will follow DL Strand hoping for more.

Intense and engaging

I found myself immersed in a tumultuous storm that had me turning pages
in anticipation and suspense from beginning to end. Great way to spend a lazy afternoon.

Awesome read!

If you’re looking for spooky, clever, and thought provoking all in one, look no further. D.L. Strand delivers in a Stephen King meets Jack London way. Can’t wait for the sequel!

I went into this blind. It was the cover that drew my attention. The story is much shorter than I has expected. Because of this, it is pretty fast paced. This doesn't allow for the development of the main characters. The story is rushed. I didn't enjoy it. At least it was pretty cheap.

A short, fast paced novella with two pretty intriguing characters. It had me gripped and the pace of the story kept me riveted and wanting to find out what happened. A good read.

I loved this one at first, but it got kind of choppy at the end and felt like multiple different stories fused together. Some things were a little confusing and kind of left some things unanswered, but I’m wondering if Book 2 will clear it up.
