"…a thrilling dive through the darkness…packed with meticulous heists, brilliant scheming, all-out brawls, and a simmering, palpable tension that makes it difficult to put this prison thriller down.”-SPRPower and fear refuse to be separated as Croft’s rise is mixed with betrayals, new enemies, and constant undermining by Bread. He scrapes against the ambitions of others on both sides of the bars, making victories costly and offering no quick end to the war. Bread’s nature remains as diabolical and difficult to understand as ever. When a series of strange opportunities and shocking reversals challenges Croft’s most fundamental ideas, he must decide who he really is.

Really liked the first two books in this series, but it grew...ponderous. Kind of too much of a good thing...? The books are humorless, and the choices and issues don't really seem to change. Palmer is a terrific writer, smart and sophisticated and philosophical, but...I don't know, I just lost my mojo for this one.
