I had always heard of Gary Fisher mentioned for his impact on mountain biking, plus his loud persona, but I questioned how much I'd appreciate this book since I do not mountain bike. I was surprised how much this book dramatically changed my impression of him, well justifying why he is respected for his contributions, well beyond mountain biking.
The book started off in an unusual slow way with his family heritage, and then delved into the experimental music scene in the 60s. This challenged me a little as I was questioning if this book was for me until it started into the really interesting history of creating mountain bikes which led into the complicated cycling business industry. The book finishes highlighting the benefits of investing into cycling and public transit, while highlights a healthy mindset on how to make cycling friendly and enjoyable for all.
The book was far more diverse than I expected and was really enjoyable with the balanced insightful approach. I will definitely recommend it to other cyclists.
Trippy man..A rollicking good time travelling back through the evolution of the mountain bike and my youth just getting into biking in the mid 80's. Heavy on the "heavy" psychedelic imagery but it includes some great vintage photos. He has some great candid insights into what became a huge industry and the sales to TREK bikes. I filed it under "Sales" in my book shelf as it talks business but more importantly how awesome bike are as a tool to chance the world and people's lives. #gobybike
