I need more!!! This is such a perfect collection of sapphic short stories!! They were all unique, different genres and tones, and I completely loved every single one! I’m going to rank each short story and give a review because I have a lot of feelings after reading this.
The Glass Window 5/5
I loved this first short story! I am such a massive sucker for ‘the pretty one falls for the scary one’ and this one made me go feral. The world-building was intriguing, with the story being set in a world where mythical creatures not only exist but are trapped in zoos. I thought that I wouldn’t really vibe with this concept but it worked petty well. The characters were FANTASTIC! I appreciated that there wasn’t only one kind of mermaid used. There was Paria who appeared more like a common mermaid and then we had Riga a spooky deep sea mermaid! Paria was a perfect protagonist, I loved her attitude, how fed up she was with how she’s made to act and her voice. I completely loved Rigas character she was so interesting both in the way she acted and how she looked. She felt so sure of herself and tough, I just have a lot of love for the scary merlady. The relationship that bloomed between them was so wholesome! The way they used tapping to communicate through the glass that separated them. Paria and her almost naive nature to the world vs Riga who felt more mature. The way they talked all night and bonded about their lives. The moment when they were finally together, not separated by the glass was the best part, very romantic. This story definitely deserved a 5/5.
Little Lights 4.5/5
This story was so unbelievably sweet I nearly teared up throughout. This is great because I’m not a fan of childhood friends to lovers, but I loved this one. The world in this story is interesting, my only issue was that it was hard to get a hold of at first. I started seeing it one way to read about hover cars and suddenly change how I was seeing it in my head. But once I pst the beginning I was fine. The floating cities were such a cool idea! I loved the way the floating cities sent lanterns down while the people on the ground sent up planes. The relationship between Winnie and Daisy was incredibly wholesome. What began as them being penpals from two different worlds grew to them falling in love. Winnie turning away from the future she was forced into only her to fly herself up to the continent. Just so she can finally be with the one person that kept her going was perfection. Their chemistry was believable with the development of their relationship over the story. Really lovely too. Like watching them grow up together and see how their lives changed and affected them worked too. This was just just a really wholesome story, and throughout the whole thing, I was just rooting for Winnie. I just wanted her to be happy and be with Daisy. ;-;
The Bog Hag 5/5
I don’t know what to say about this story other than; this is my shit! This is such a beautiful dark fairytale with a melancholy tone and felt close to the type of thing I’d write. The relationship between the scary bog witch and the curious foreign princess was brilliant. I loved that it was from the witches point of view, her snarky attitude was brilliant and she felt very wise. I loved Tuck she was such a lovely and mischievous character, I loved their interactions so much. Especially when she was looking after Tuck and giving her her blessing! Tuck winding up the witch and showing no fear, while the witch grew to like her. They were so sweet and they deserved a happy ending. Especially Tuck I felt so bad for her situation (even though it feels accurate for the time). Forced into a marriage, to stay away from the witch and to have many heirs even though her first nearly killed her. The ending was perfect, the way they ended up together the way she changed and how it was hinted at earlier. It's a wonderfully written fairytale that subverted what you expect from the genre. Plus I have a soft spot for mean scary women who actually have a sweet side ;-: N now I will happily blow a kiss at the woods for the two bog witch wives.
We Deserve a Soft Landing, Love 5/5
Up until this story, I was having a good time. Enjoying the different genres, characters and romances. I was vibing. THEN I read this and had my heart ripped out of my chest, crushed And broken. I loved every second of it. This was heart-wrenchingly bittersweet. Sarah comforting and bonding with Lotte was sweet and heartfelt. But hurt like hell as Lotte is getting pulled into Jupiter’s atmosphere with no chance of survival. There is overwhelming loneliness and dread that is in the background of the story. I thought I was okay till I got to the last two pages. BUT NO! IT BROKE ME COMPLETELY. At least Sarah decided to live on in a way that Lotte would have liked. My heart is still destroyed beyond repair tho.
Flower Crown 6/5
Is that rating possible? I don’t know and I do not care! Flower Crown restored my heart! It was a perfect Fairytale with (just my opinion) the best protagonist in the book. Lina was phenomenal I loved her character so much! AND it had a strong-willed princess and lovely lady knight falling in love. Which I loved very much!!! Mary was such a perfect love interest. I was worried she would just be a side character Lina shared her first kiss with. BUT NO. This woman spent her life training to be a knight and researching how to stop Lina's curse. WIFE GOALS. If that isn’t true love then I don’t know what is. Her personality was extremely lovable, I loved her sense of humour and how she and Lina wound each other up. This story was much longer than the others and I’m glad or it. It’s a fleshed-out fairytale story with characters that felt fully developed. The curse itself was super interesting I agree with Mary of course. It was romantic, painful. But romantic. The world and like lore of the land made sense and was super interesting. Her childhood and showing how she changed and almost lost hope was done great. Especially the loneliness and frustration that comes with being cursed and touch starved. My favourite part (well one of them) was when she kept telling the knights to basically piss off. I love how she handled it, and handled being alone. But the ending was the cherry on top! The fact cranky was the fairy queen was a brilliant twist that I didn’t see coming! The journey to th heart was incredible and the perfect spooky fairytale atmosphere! MARY CHOOSING TO SHARE HER LIFE FORCE WITH HER. Their first kiss with Lina not bursting into flowers was SO SWEET.

This was an amazingly written collection of sapphic sf/f stories. Each story was unique, had different tones, character types and relationship dynamics. I really loved how no story felt the same. If I had to choose Flower Crown or The Glass Window was probably my favourite but they’re all brilliant. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all readers that want great sapphic stories. I just think that Jacquelynn Lyon is an incredibly talented writer and I can not wait to read what she writes next!!

I absolutely love every story in this collection! The writing style is witty and all the characters feel very real and relatable. I don’t think there’s been a single story by this author that I haven’t been completely enthralled with and I can’t wait to see what more amazing work she will come out with!

A solid collection of stories! Without even checking out the author’s site or the reviews, I could tell she had a Tumblr: the stories were written with the kind of casual queerness and fulfillment of different archetypes that seem to be in-line with writers on that site. While the short stories felt a little cut short, I was pleasantly surprised by the showcase of different kinds of sapphic love, and how cute these romances were. My other main criticism besides the stories not feeling as contained or complete as they could’ve, though, is that “The Flower Crown” was too long IMO and I just wasn’t invested in the protagonist. (Perhaps if there were more fairytale tropes to play with, and the pairing in that one had more of the Buttercup x Wesley dynamic I was starting to see the vibes of…or maybe my ears perked up reading “As you wish” idk.)
My favorites were “We Deserve A Soft Landing, Love”(the beginning was slow, but the ending was a gut punch!), and The Bog Witch(although I enjoyed the story more than the fantasy world itself).
I checked this out on Queer Liberation Library once I saw it was added to the collection, and I’m overall satisfied!

Wahhhh I LOVED this collection. I enjoyed all of the stories. I'm not sure which one was my favorite. ⅗ of them (Little Lights, We Deserve a Soft Landing, Love, and Flower Crown) made me CRY, which I didn't expect at all. I immediately went and put this author’s other two collections on hold and I can't wait to read them.

I loved "A Glass Window" and "We deserve a soft landing, love"! (These stories are 5 stars!) I also did really enjoy "Little Lights" but it was a little hard for me to get into at the beginning, but it might have just been me because the clothes descriptions at the beginning just shook me with dysphoria, so that's a me problem (but hey its good writing if I can really feel that I suppose!).
Putting 4 stars instead of 5 because I did struggle a little with "Flower Crown", it was really hard to get into, and was much longer than the others. I liked it a little more towards the ending, but I had a really hard time feeling for Lina.

I wanted to read more of her works. The stories felt too short. I wanted to read more. Each one did a good job of representing different kinds of love such as childhood or fleeting. I loved the characters and the worlds they inhabit. The only reason this one lost a star is the mermaid story really freaked me out. The whole idea that humans would put someone who can communicate and basically is human in a cage is just uncomfortable. I didn’t think being in a zoo was necessary for a romance book and was a bit odd.

I was invested in the story right from the beginning and absolutely adored Paria and Riga's interactions. – 5/5
Little Lights: Winnie is seven years old at the start of the story and catches a light-pink lantern at an annual celebration, sent by someone called Daisy. Unfortunately, Daisy lives on a floating continent, which only comes by once a year. Intrigued by the sender, Winnie starts writing letters, hoping to send them up at the next celebration.
It took me a while to get into this short story, but once Winnie sent her plane up, and Daisy started texting her, I was hooked. – 4/5
The Bog Hag: The story of a four-hundred-year-old bog hag and a queen, who wants to escape her husband and her certain death.
I'm a sucker for a fantasy story with a royality storyline, so I really enjoyed this one. – 5/5

Flower Crown: Lina, a cursed princess has a short but sweet friendship with a servant girl, but when she reveals her secret, the girl and her family are dismissed. A few years later, Lina is sent away to a castle on the outskirts of the kingdom, in order to hide her curse, which has gotten worse. There, suitors show up, each claiming they have a cure, but all of them leaving eventually when they're ignored by the princess. One of the men is known to be insistent. Can Lina get rid of the curse and evade her next suitor?
I very much enjoyed reading this, but it was a bit long. – 4.5/5

beautiful sapphic stories that left me wanting more.
my favorite story was flower crown.
i love how we deserve a soft landing shook things up as i started feeling things were getting tedious for me.
i loved being brought into these worlds but i wish i could have stayed longer, so much that it was a flaw for me reading through. i felt myself becoming very attached the the worlds that took place and wished that the stories extended even a bit further than they did in their endings. that might just indicate im more a full story person than a short story person. however i don’t regret getting immersed in any of these stories, even if it hurt feeling like i was leaving them too soon.
i would love to read a full length story written by this author.
overall, i highly recommend this for any fellow sapphic and fantasy lovers.

Amazing collection from an amazing author. I had previously read some short stories by her that she posted online and got super excited when I saw there was a physical collection coming out. The author has really stepped up, creating these amazing characters and short stories that still completely grab you. Definitely an amazing read I will go back to again and again and I reccomend anyone that even has the mildest interest reads.

I can’t describe how happy reading these stories made me. I’ve followed the author on tumblr for what seems like forever, loving her short stories there. As soon as I found out she published this I knew it would be amazing. The depth and the heart of these stories!! It makes me want to have a kid just so I can read these tales to them. They’re perfect in every way. I hope to find my own Hummingbird Knight someday.

As with most collections of stories some are better than others. This one did a pretty good job across the board. Little lights and Flower Crown being my favourites. My least favourite being The glass window. The stories were cute and sweet, and the characters are fun. I look forward to seeing more from this author. Would really give it a 4.5.

I came across this on social media and bought it because it sounded interesting, an I absolutely LOVE it. The writing is fun and easy to read and the characters are pretty relatable. I would definitely recommend everyone to read this collection of short stories!!

This is a really enjoyable collection of stories, mostly from the point of view of young women growing up and discovering themselves. The language was anachronistic in spots, but otherwise great fun. I want more from this author.

What a charming debut from a promising young writer! There are five short stories in this collection, each one stronger than the last. So much of science fiction and fantasy is centered around men; it's refreshing to see something exploring the lives of girls and women. The cover artwork is lovely as well.

The average of the ratings I gave the individual stories was just below 4.5, making it a very strong collection by my standards.
By far my favorite of the five stories was the first, "The Glass Window." I'm a sucker for mermaids, and this one had an Ariel-type mermaid right next to a deep sea scary mermaid (*insert some meme about goth gfs here*), which is even better. I love the worldbuilding framing the story and especially the voice of the protagonist.
"Little Lights" was my least favorite, though still solid. The story just couldn't quite make the floating city work believably for me.
"The Bog Hag" felt like the kind of story I would write, all fairytale tropes and subversion. Then "We Deserve a Soft Landing, Love" ripped my heart out—in a fantastic way—I didn't expect any sad stories from this collection, but this was wonderfully written despite its rocky start.

5 stars. I feel like a broken record but dammit it has to be said every time how absolutely gorgeous Lyon’s writing is. Seriously, she has such a way with words and really knows how to tell a gripping story. She’s for sure become one of my favorite authors as I have yet to be let down by anything that I’ve read from her.
This collection was gorgeous. I’d already read two of the stories in this (‘Little Lights’ and ‘The Bog Hag’) but I read them again and I’m glad that I did. ‘Little Lights’ is still every bit of a five star story and I enjoyed ’The Bog Hag’ much more this second time around. Besides those two stories, the others were just as great. My favorites were ‘We Deserve a Soft Landing, Love’ and ‘Flower Crown’ with the latter being my absolute favorite of the bunch. Such a fun adventure and I loved the characters.
I can’t wait for Lyon’s next book, I’ve nothing else by her to read and that is incredibly upsetting.

Oh I loved this!!!
I've never read a short story collection before and this one made me very happy. Because it was an easy and fast way to get a little sapphic joy!!!
Of course, the stories are quiet short and therefore not that detailed and everything, but that's because they're SHORT stories. It's natural that they're faster paced and/or more summed up than a long book. And I do missed some tiny things sometimes...
I'd definetly recommend to give this a try though, especially if you don't have time for long books!
The only thing I disliked... the poor quality of the book itself. It's very readable, but... the weird cover paper, the layout with mostly awkward spacing and... it triggered me a bit {especially if you put "..." in two lines!!! Pleaseee, don't seperate them!!!}, I have to say. This really wasn't cheap, so I exspected more. But it's okay, the stories made up for it <3

Truly this is a collection of nice, heartwarming love stories.If you’d like a a set of creative and cheerful love stories, look here. Read one before bed each night and have good dreams. The SF/F elements add some original and very engaging flourishes.

The stuff of softest dreams with lots of longing fulfilled. I only wish there was more to some of the stories since I didn't only really felt a very clear sense of personalities in the Flower Crown story.

The stories inside manage to be captivating despite being short, and each one is distinct enough from the others. Also the mermaids live rent free in my head now 💜
