A cataclysm has left Damea on the brink of total destruction. While the land's nations scramble for survival, Andrea must push herself far beyond the limits of her enchanter training to find Cassie and return order to Damea, before everything and everyone she cares for are lost forever.
I won a copy of this book in a giveaway and really enjoyed it. I probably would have liked it even more if my reading hadn't been so disjointed lol. It picks up pretty close to where Conduit left off but because of everyone splitting up at the end, it ping pongs back and forth between the different characters quite a bit in the first half. I actually didn't mind this because I thought it gave some better insight into the side characters.
I loved the climax and the big twist but was a little confused on where the story could go with quite a few of chapters left after. I ultimately appreciated it in the end however because I think there was a lot more closure provided than usual these days both in the immediate aftermath of the final battle and in the future with the epilogue! Overall I loved this series as a whole and can definitely see myself investing in obtaining the physical copies to reread.
P.S. This quote in particular really resonated with me as I was reading, "You know me well enough to know I don't believe in chance, only in the combinations of events and how we react to them." -Meredith, pg. 168
This book was provided to me free of charge in exchange for a review, however my thoughts are my own.
So I know I said I liked Conduit, but I have to say, Surge was even better!! I took a bit of a break between Conduit and Surge (for obvious reasons), but was able to jump right back in without needing a refresher. It's definitely a fast-paced read and was, for me, impossible to put down.
For fans of Ithmeera and Elisa, don't worry- Surge spends plenty of time exploring their relationship. The chemistry between those two has been present for a while, so I'm glad we really got to dig into both of those characters in this book. I really did not come into this series expecting to like either of them as much as I have, but I'm so glad I did!
Of course, Andrea and Cassie are central figures as well. I'm not the sort of person that goes looking for plot holes, but ever since Enchanters I've had a few questions about her origins. Some of those were addressed in Conduit, but Surge really satisfied my curiosity on that front- including ones I didn't know I'd had!
I especially appreciated the ending- too often, authors leave right after the action, with little to no information about the rebuilding process. With Surge, I was much better able to picture their lives after the end of the story, which I really appreciated.
I would 120% recommend this book for YA readers- when I was that age, I would have loved this entire series. It has salient, exciting risks and intriguing emotional dilemmas without being too explicit/graphic for that age group. The premise and system of magic are pretty unique and I definitely appreciate how the world established in Enchanters is filled in during Conduit and Surge. The earlier two books raised a lot of questions for me. Surge answered all of those and left me a very satisfied reader.
Damea is relying on Andrea to push through the limited training she has had as an Enchanter to save everyone from magical threats that if not stopped will destroy everything. Andrea is trying to manage everything as she searches for Cassie and encounters many a challenge in her mission to restore peace to the land before it is too late.
An amazingly exciting conclusion to the adventure that has been the Enchanters trilogy. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my journey into the magic and wonder of being an enchanter with Andrea, Cassie, Elisa and Ithmeera. As this is part of a trilogy you will need to read the other books in the series before heading out on this adventure to fully understand the story and characters, but it has been an unforgettable journey.
Everything the characters have been through and continue to go through leads up to the most wonderful conclusion. I went through all the emotions I have been through on the other adventures, worry, nervous, and being so excited that I just couldn’t wait to find out if everything was going to work out and whether Andrea could achieve all she set out to do in this adventure.
I wasn’t disappointed and was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out, and when I did, it was worth everything I and the characters had been through. The trilogy has the most wonderful and fitting conclusion but I hope it is not the end. I would love to know more about these characters and Damea futures, so I hope there will be more in future.
A great fantasy series with mystic and magic to not only fulfil the needs of any fantasy genre lover, but also YA readers and anyone looking to discover the genre. I highly recommend the entire Enchanters series as a most exciting adventure awaits you!
I was torn between 4 and 5 stars for this book. In the end I went with 5 stars as I loved the series and the dynamics between characters but and this is a little bit of a spoiler so I will hide it I really love Andrea and Cassie, their story, their characters and their relationship. Cassie's interaction with Andrea's parents adds that bit of extra realism to their relationship. Meredith is an interesting character and her character gets developed nicely as do those of Elisa and Ithmeera. Some of the supporting characters less well so, I guess that is why we call them supporting characters, otherwise the book would be twice as long and probably proportionally more tedious. Read the whole series - #1 is an awesome book and the remaining two conclude the story nicely, although there are some annoying loose ends that remain
I blazed through this book really, really quickly. I intentionally tried to pace myself and I kept reading further than I meant to!
It's a really great conclusion to the series, with lots of believable character development and complete character arcs, well-written action sequences, touching emotional moments, etc. The book answered all my questions; I wasn't left asking "wait, what happened to ?" or "how did happen?" at the end.
A great ending for an enjoyable fantasy. I don't want to spoil anything but I really liked the ending of this book. I also really liked how everything was tied together from the other two books. Side characters getting their moment to shine and play a bigger role, and the story coming back full circle. I would definitely recommend reading the series but start with the first book, Enchanters.
