Anchor Island #6

In Over Her Head

Rate this book
Love is on the menu when two chefs heat up the kitchen—and each other—in this newest addition to the Anchor Island series.

Chef Lauren Riley has one philosophy—never depend on anyone. A loner and a perfectionist, she’s on Anchor Island to turn Pilar’s into the best restaurant in the Outer Banks, not to make friends. But despite her cold demeanor, the locals refuse to take the hint, and she soon learns the meaning of a found family.

Nick Stamatis did his time in fancy kitchens but his laid-back life as head cook of Dempsey's Bar & Grill, the most popular eatery on Anchor island, suits him just fine. Despite his playboy reputation, he’s a family man at heart. But if family history repeats, he isn't likely to live long enough to have one of his own.

When Nick sticks his nose into Lauren’s business, she tells him exactly where to go, but it isn't long before the realization dawns—she needs his help. As he teaches her the ropes of running her own kitchen, sparks ignite, and soon they’re stirring up more than either expected.

Can two people who have sworn off love really make it work? Or will Lauren’s past, and Nick’s unknown future, keep this cautious couple from finding their happily ever after?

I enjoyed this series very much!
however, I forgot some of the characters from the previous book and they all appear here it is a small-town romance, I spend some time piercing everyone together..
that doesn't reflect on my reading experience..
I enjoyed this story.. a light and quick read..definitely a feel-good romance ( and series!)

3,5/4 con il trascorrere del tempo i libri della serie stanno diventando via via sempre più semplici ma ormai Anchor Island è come se fosse un'isola che conosco e che visito abitualmente e non posso fare a meno di leggere.

I wasn't sure about this one as it started, Lauren was very prickly and I thought she would be hard to like, making it hard to root for her to succeed at the restaurant and with a romance with Nick. It took me over half the book to warm up to Lauren, it was her taking Nick's suggestions and realizing that she had to give a bit. By then I really wanted her and her staff to get the restaurant up and running, for it to be a huge success and for her and Nick to figure things out. I was happy it all worked out in the end, but Lauren's connection to Will seems a bit too pat and makes me wish there was more info.

I want to start this review by saying that I want to taste all the food talked about in this book. ALL! OF! IT!
Moving on… I read the previous books in the series in 2018, but I kind of forgot everything(I will so reread them this year, hopefully :D). That being said, I didn’t feel the need to reread everything to be able to enjoy this story. It’s a standalone that has characters from the previous books, but they are wrote in a way that makes you want to read their stories, not because you can’t understand what’s happening, but because they are so warm and interesting.
Lauren is the heroine of the story. She’s an outsider who moved to the island because of her new job: being head chef at a new restaurant. She grew up really poor and she’s ambitious, but she’s also guarded and stubborn. Unfortunately people judge her as being cold and uncaring so she’s had a tough time because of it. She’s convinced she knows how to do things and she has to do them her way. Island life is completely different from what she’s used to so she has a steep learning curve.
Enter chef Nick. He’s known as a playboy, but also as having a big heart. He’s trying to impart his knowledge and experience, with mixed success. He can be charming and sneaky, but he also has moments when he’s making our Lauren want to hit him. I loved these 2 together, when I read the scene with the 2 of them cooking I knew they will work everything out(ignoring that this was a romance :D).
I had a lot of fun reading this book. I also got really hungry, but we’re not going to talk about that again. If you’re in the mood for a fun, sweet, small town romance to keep you entertained for an afternoon, this is your book.

Although the book ‘In over her head’ is part of the ‘Anchor island’ series, it can totally be read as a standalone. You don’t have to read the previous stories to read this one.

I enjoyed this story very much. It was a sweet, small beach town romance story. It had, for me personally, the perfect balance between light-hearted and emotional. There were moments that I was smiling and other moments that made me emotional (but still in a light way, never too dark).
The main characters were both wonderful in their own way. Nick was a good guy, he took care of his family and friends, he was a great grandson, brother and friend. He was capable, honest, confident, dependable, helpful and also very handsome. Lauren was very independent , a loner, not good In social situations but also sensitive and unsure (except when she was cooking then she was a very confident cook). But even so, Lauren had a good character, she was respectful, friendly and she was open-minded to suggestions of other people. She wasn’t too stubborn to accept help and I really liked that about her.
Both Nick and Lauren’s childhood hadn’t been easy, Nick lost his father at a young age and Lauren was raised by a single mother and in poverty. So they both had learned to protect their feelings and their heart. The dynamic between Nick and Lauren was great and their conversations were entertaining and funny at times.

The secondary characters were also very good and entertaining. You had the women, who became Lauren’s friends and Lauren’s staff in the restaurant. Just like in real life, the people who worked for her had to get used to the new situation and each other. I really had fun with their teambuilding day. (I’m not sure that I would be brave enough to do it so my respect to them for doing it!) Nick’s grandmother and sister were also wonderful characters.

Maybe also interesting to know is that you get both POV’s in the story and if you are looking for a story with very steamy sex scenes, then don’t read this book. Because you won’t find any in here. But if you’re looking for a sweet romance read then try this one.

In Over Her Head is a very entertaining and heartfelt romance! Lauren and Nick are both chefs; she is new to their little island home, and he has run a successful restaurant for a long time. When they first meet, she is insecure and threatened by him, and he is put off by her sense of superiority and her unbending will to listen to suggestions! But it doesn't take long for the heat to build, in both their kitchens and their hearts! I really enjoyed their stories, learning about their painful pasts that prohibit them from revealing true feelings and taking a chance on a future. It was fun being in the kitchen with them, and I was tantalized by the descriptions of the food they prepared! This book is the 6 book in this series, but I haven't read the others and had no problem following along, so it's a great standalone! But, as always when I read a book out of order in a series, I want to go back and read the rest! I hope we will have more stories in the future from Anchor Island!

We are back to Anchor Island. Where the people are friendly, the fish are fresh, and the weather is warm. My favorite place to be. I love this series. This little island community has become my favorite place to escape to. I am extremely happy that Ms. Osburn has decided to keep going with the series, at least for now.
We have a newcomer to the island, Lauren Riley. Lauren is a chef who has come to run the newly renovated Marina’s Restaurant. It is now named Pilar’s. She is a person who does not trust anyone. She is a perfectionist and believes you can only depend on yourself. She does not make or really want friends but on this little island is she in for a shock. Everyone is your friend.
Nick Stamatis is the chef at Dempsey’s Bar. He came back to the island to take care of his Nota when she was having health issues. He shares this duty with his sister Mia. He notices Lauren right away. In a few ways, her good looks and her uptight way of doing things. Nick knows the island and the people and will try to offer Lauren advice and helpful suggestions, whether she wants it or not is a whole different ballgame. They do however form a friendship.
Nick and Lauren will work around each other and together in some comical ways. They do have a friendship that does take a turn, but to where? Nick was always under the impression that he would die young since his dad did as well as his grandfather, this kept him from having relationships. Until he learns differently. Lauren never has time for relationships, nor does she believe in them, these two will learn differently.
The book is an easy read, one I did not want to put down. It was funny, sad and so well put together. The personalities of the characters fit perfectly, although I confess Lauren was a love to hate character for a bit, but you knew her behavior came from something in her past. This book had everything I want in a romance novel, but to me it felt more like a contemporary read. I loved it. Cannot wait for the next Anchor Island installment.

This book was my only vacation in a year. Yes, a vacation because it's set on an island. (Don't call me Ms. Obvious...To Kill a Mockingbird? not about hunting or birds. Catcher in the Rye? not about baseball or baking bread. I rest my case).

Ms. Osburn's latest escape romance came at the perfect time. Cooped up in the house, frigid and snowing outside and I got to escape to an island in this sweet romance. I like all levels of heat in a book, as long as there is character development and a plot. I might be looking in the wrong places, but it seems that currently a lot of books with higher levels of heat have little of either of those, so I try to find books that do. I ask all my bookie friends for recommendations for lower level heat books that aren't in the Historical or Christian/religious sub-genres. They seem to be harder to find.

But, Terri to the rescue! In Over Her Head was all that I like in a romance, the characters Nick and Lauren were likeable, flawed and found resolution to their struggles, both within the romance and inside themselves. I love it when characters grow and you just root for them to make it. Even when you know that HEA is inevitable, not every author has the talent that Ms. Osburn has to create a fictional town with interesting side characters, situations that are believable, all the while making me feel all of the "feels" when the couple finally gets together.

If you couldn't tell by now, I liked this book. I liked Nick and Lauren. I loved Anchor Island and I want to move there as soon as this pandemic is over. (I'll see if my husband is willing to relocate!)

Looking forward to more of this series...there are more tales to tell and life to live on Anchor Island!!!!

Lauren has been hired as a head chef for the first time, in a restaurant which will reopen after a complete renovation. She is a micromanager. In a way it is good for her to know what she wants, and she is a classically trained chef. However, at first, she is inflexible. Nick is the head chef at the local bar and grill, and is also an excellent chef, though not classically trained. He does, however, know the island and the people, whereas Lauren is new to the area. He makes some suggestions based on his knowledge and experience, and luckily, Lauren listens. Lauren doesn't trust men/love due to her upbringing. Nick is afraid to get involved because he thinks he is going to die young. Thus, they start out as friends with benefits, but of course they grow on each other rather quickly. The main conflict is Lauren's complete lack of trust. I loved seeing the close knit group of women, heroines from previous books in this excellent series, and how they bring Lauren into the fold. There are also a few surprises that give Lauren a different perspective. I was so glad Terri decided to write another book in the Anchor Island series and loved this one!

First let me say I love this series, and now Book #6..I’m so happy Ms. Osburn has brought us back to Anchor Island..What I found in this book was Love, friendship, redemption, Family, Laughter, and some tears...

When Chef Lauren Riley comes to Anchor Island she is about to live her dream. But first has to prove herself and to the locals that she’s got things covered. It won’t be easy, transforming the old restaurant to something a little upscale but still comfortable at Pilar’s restaurant, but she has ideas.
Nick Stamatis is the Head Chef at Dempsey’s. He finds himself giving Lauren some advice on the staff. It’s just so the locals and her get along. But he finds something else is going on he never felt before. Weather she takes it remains to be seen, and he’s surprised when she does.

Lauren needs her staff to trust her. When she takes Nicks advice about this adventure park thing she’s surprised. But what can it hurt? What fun lies ahead. A lot.

Highly recommend this book. So much more to come.

Preorder this book it’s to be released 2/22/21

A chance in a lifetime, Lauren strives to get the revamped restaurant off the ground, little realising that her city ways will not serve her well in the laid-back community of Anchor Island where tomorrow is another day and deliveries are dependent on when the ferry gets there. As driven as she is, Lauren has a hard time breaking through her self-imposed barriers, and to make matters worse, chef Nick Stamatis just cannot keep his nose out of her business or hold himself back from giving her advice. This amusing romance brings out the flavour of the island, its people, and the complex relationships between family members. An aspect that comes through very clearly is that even as adults, the lies we believed have a strong hold on us even after we reach maturity. Both Nick and Lauren had to reassess their positions and choose the future. I received a copy of this well-written novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I was so excited to return to Anchor Island, I love this series of a friendly beach community. Lauren is new to the Island and is reopening the restaurant, The Pilar. She is a micromanager and has learned to trust no one. But soon she will have to change her ways, if she is going to have a successful restaurant. Nick is a chef at the local bar, willing to help Lauren. Lauren is not always willing to accept the help but soon they can't deny the chemistry that they share in and out of the kitchen. Neither do the forever in relationships though.

Loved this book the romance and the food was so yummy. Wonderful friendships through out the community. It was great to catch up with [previous characters. I'm looking forward to reading Mia's story. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.

Chef Lauren Riley is a stickler for doing things on her own. Never owing anyone for anything. She has been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Running her own restaurant the way she wants to. Nick Stamatis has come back to Anchor Island to help his sister Mia with their grandmother Nota. Nick is a no commitment person. He is fun to be around and knows everyone on the island. From the moment they meet, sparks ignite. Neither are going to do anything about it though. Nota has other ideas. It seems that her crew and others on the island think they would make a great match. Family issues need to be resolved for this HEA.

It's been a while since I'd been to Anchor Island and I realised how much I missed the characters. It was wonderful to see what they had been up to and hear about their families.

We meet Lauren Riley, the new chef on the island who is anxious to succeed and her relationship with Nick Stamatis, the laid back chef who doesn't want to find love as he thinks he's going to die young. But there is an attraction between them that neither can ignore no matter how hard they try. Lauren learns how to trust and Nick realises he can have love.

I loved this couple even though I wanted to shout at them both to get over themselves. A really sweet enjoyable read that has left me wanting more!

4 stelle

Chef Lauren Riley is the new head chef at Pilar's. She comes from a background of hearing her Mom tell her to never trust anyone, especially men. Nick Stamatis is also a chef who made it a point of not dating other chefs and keeping any female companion in his life a temporary distraction. These two have personal issues to overcome but find themselves drawn to each other.

I enjoyed reading this new book that takes place on Anchor Island. It was a fabulous, fast, romantic read. One of my favorite books that I've read this year, and I read a few books a week. Loved it.

i am so excited to come back to Anchor Island, where exciting things are happening. We have a new restaurant with chef Lauren Riley. This is her first restaurant, and her first time on the island. Our resident chef Nick is very interested in how the new chef will fit in and what her menu will be.
This is a fun book with a great story behind it. The characters mesh well together., and as always it is fun to meet the new comers , but I love reading about the characters from the past.

Small town romance

If you love small town romance novels, you will love the Anchor Island series by Terri Osburn.

In Over Her Head features Lauren, a newcomer to the island in charge of the kitchen at Pilar's restaurant. I love her character because she is relatable and anyone can easily understand why she is the way she is.
Nick, the male lead has good intentions, but the way he goes about doing it made me quickly love/hate him.

The setting on anchor island is everything you'd expect from a small town romance, and if they are your jam, you will enjoy this series.

In Over Her Head was a perfect title for this book as Lauren became the head chef at a new restaurant on Anchor Island. I enjoyed watching how Nick gave her advice and it was shocking when she did what he suggested. I liked how they were both able to confide in each other too. I really enjoyed how the book ended because it was not what I expected and I now want to read more books in this series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Another fabulous book about my favorite place, Ocracoke Island (my family have been there since the 1500s) and my favorite author.

Terri has created a cast of characters that continue to grow and interact so flawlessly. Her ability to relate to the feelings of those characters in such a real way makes her stories not only relatable, but sincere. I hope to see many more of her books, especially in the Anchor Island series.

Entertaining Romance

This is a fun return to Anchor Island. Lauren has serious trust issues and is in over her head as the head chef of the new upscale restaurant. Nick has his own issues keeping him from having a relationship, but cares too much about his friends to let her fail. Both have spent years building walls around their hearts, but can the chemistry between them help tear down those walls? This is entertaining and romantic, and I loved it.

This was my first visit to Anchor Island (I'm not sure why it took me so long). I am completely hooked and have since bought all of the other books. I love Lauren and Nick (Greek men are totally my thing) I couldn't put it down. But then I missed all the characters, so I had to buy the books that came before, lol. Great story, great story teller, love it!

I love this book. It is a continuation of the Anchor Island series. It could be read as a standalone book, but is even nicer if you have read the other books in the series. It's a good book if you want to escape from reality and enjoy a good romance.

Good as a!ways

My only complaint is how short these books are. I wish the story line was a little more detailed. I still love the series just wish for longer books. The endings always seem so rushed.
