In her first collection of poems, Gabrielle G. depicts different love stories from the initial spark to the last heartbreak and writes in verses the heartache we've all been through. A poetry book to make your heart smile and weep at the same time.
I confess this book was not what I was expecting. I do not regret buying it because bad poetry is also poetry and I love reading poems. However, I think the poems look almost like the same. Maybe it is just the author's style. There are a few good poems in the book, but most of them are average quality or lower. This is the only book I read from Gabrielle G. , maybe their other books are better. If you like "water & salt" writting, i would totally recomend. However, if you are more of a profound reader, you would be disappointed.
I really enjoyed reading this debut poetry book. Gabrielle G. really managed to express a lot of emotions into her poems, such as heartbreak, love, anger,... The book consist of 14 'chapters', all with a different but meaningful meaning. The artwork that each 'chapter' starts with is really pretty as well. Gabrielle G.'s poems are really raw and thoughtful. You can really feel the emotions through them, and I think that's important in poetry.
Here's my favorite poem from the short collection:
'I asked the moon to guide me, In the path of our love, As I was blind to see. Stellar tips.
The moon stayed silent, But the stars screamed That our love was distant. Lunar eclipse.
The sun came to my rescue And burnt all my doubts But then payment was due. Solar explosion.
So, I gave my sky away, Blackened by madness; And left you in dismay. Heartless decision.'
At the end of the book, there was also a list of other books Gabrielle G. has written. I'm really excited to look these up and dive into them!
Thank you to the author Gabrielle G. for sending me a copy of this book. This in no way affected my opinion.
This collection of poetry is seriously FIRE. 🔥❤️🔥 WORTH THE READ! It brought so many nostalgic memories of me and my “twin flame” that toxic love, and all sorts of love one experience’s in their lifetime. When you think of that “one” person who ruined your life but u will never truly get over lol. 🥺 “To the man I loved too much” is the perfect read to reminisce to. Here’s one of my favorites that spoke to me:
SATAN’S MY LOVER Lustful eyes, broken smile I knew I met a devil. Broken wings, so fragile. He’s become my fallen angel… (Sneak peek of the poem…first verse.)
By the time you really start not enjoying a poetry collection, you’re so far in that you might as well finish. This one really was just personal taste and preference. I see that some people really loved this collection and that’s totally fair. It just wasn’t for me at all.
Gabrielle G. continuously blows me away with her writing. This book of poems is definitely up there in my top 5 from her. I don't normally read poetry but I'm glad I did, because she has upped her game in that reguard. I found myself thinking about each and every one, and what it would feel like if I put myself in each scenario.
You can feel love, heartbreak, anger and resolve that bleed out onto all the pages. There are twelve stories that can touch everyone out there, this is a must read and buy. I recommend you grab a copy for yourself and take a tumble down and up again in the tools of what love can bring.
3/5. This is a collection of beautiful and raw poetry. It was quick and packed a punch. Everyone loves when their feelings can be brought to life through words. Some of these were very good. Some of the quotes in this book are ones I can relate to, and others are just deep and pretty to read on the surface.
Quotes: “Temptations in my veins Resolutions burnt in flames Dangerous game of seduction Arctic wind, potential destruction.”
“Loving you wasn't a choice It was a certitude.”
“Seeing myself disappearing from your thoughts was agonizing. It was the only reason I asked you to let me go. And you never did.”
“My most beautiful and longest lasting romance is the one I discovered when I started to love myself.”
“Burning desire But with you I felt alive.”
“Have mercy on my heart As it has lost its home It's been ripped apart By someone who loves to roam.”
“I see your flaws And I love them I see your strengths And I love them I see your looks And I love them I see your demons And I love them I see your thoughts And I love them In a few words: I see you And I love you;”
“We were never meant to be.”
“Praying I wasn't a hit and run While you pretend to be amnesiac.”
Not sure where to start and what words I can use to describe how amazing this book is. It’s beautiful and so emotional and there’s something in it for everybody. Gabrielle G. Discusses different subjects that are touching through her words. I finished this book and read it two more times because it’s that great. It left me emotional, but feeling healed and strong at the same time. My heart and soul are both full and I cannot wait to read more poetry by Gabrielle. She’s a great author and I love her writing, but this poetry book, just proves how talented she is as a writer. This book is a must read. Do yourself a favor and buy it as soon as it comes out, because trust me, u need it!
This, the debut poetry collection from author Gabrielle G, is an evocative and emotional-filled rollercoaster ride of feelings, and one that you won’t ever forget. Whatever type of love you have experienced in your life, you will struggle to NOT relate deeply throughout this book to the pictures the author paints with her words. Whether it be raw, moving, heartbreaking, or even lustful, I can guarantee there will be something within these pages that speaks to you. Beautiful words from a beautiful soul.
I write poetry and compose songs most of my life, so I’m judging based on my experience…
All I’m saying here is one thing: unorganized thoughts. Some people might like them in literature but I dislike it simply because I become unsatisfied: I was supposed to get heart felt poetry and all I got was unrelated scribbles. There was a whole poem composed of three phrases. That’s it- the thing is it was a common occurrence. And there’re times I thought the author was listening to Taylor swift and extended of a specific song because she liked it. There is a total of four poems that I actually liked and felt them deep from the heart (from 117 poems!!)
Another thing that really bothered me in this book and completely unrelated to the genre of it is the “art”. If you want the full description that would be an abstract drawing of a female face, and with every chapter it wither rotates or duplicates or both. The author did think right when she used Canva but she used it blandly ( or way to close to the deadline) so the “art” wasn’t art-ing at all! At least try to use a different face or a full female body covered with bruises if you wanted to convey pain or a broken lego heart to convey a broken heart.. etc. that wouldn’t have taken time or effort at all to be achieved.
Lastly, I’d like to repeat something I wrote in a previous review for a poetry book: I don’t get contemporary poetry at all. I prefer figures of speech and alliterations; resonance and rhyme; feelings and details.
Without saying much else, I will have to salute you farewell because I have a heap of books that need to be finished.
See you in one of my books, book-dragons📚 Yours truly, Izz.
I’m rating as a person that doesn’t read poetry that often!:
I always wanted to like or be more into poetry because sometimes it does sound so beautiful, but every time I try I get disappointed or bored.
These mini poems sounded like random sentences without any feelings. I don’t know maybe one needs to be recently heartbroken in order to enjoy it? Maybe where I am in life isn’t compatible with these poems? Maybe.
If you are like me and you don’t read poetry that often then I don’t think you will enjoy it.
Although poetry is very personal so others might enjoy it, but I don’t recommend buying it without having a look.
I’ve always appreciated poetry. It is so much more personal and I feel like you are in the authors mode and they are reaching into your soul. This book by Gabrielle G is just that. It’s raw, real and many of them hits close to home. I felt a deep connection with many of the poems. This is a great addition to have on your shelf.
I'm not really a poetry reader or not anymore. I've read a lot of poetry in the past , but for different reasons lost my interest in poetry. Then Gabrielle wrote her poetry book and I wanted to try again.
Her poems are beautiful. Her poetry book is like a love story. All the emotions that come from them are like an amazing journey to find not the love of our life, or condemn a lost love, but to find ourself and our own way in life. I think everyone interprets poems in their own way, and that's mine 😊🥰
⭐️⭐️ no es mi tipo de poesia, pero estas frases mggg
i do not think that they ever stopped loving each other, but deep down in their nature, they did not belong to one another. ———- remember the laughter and times together but never forget you cried, and felt rotten from the inside. ———— except the idea of me, was there anything in me you really loved?
I hate to give such a low rating but I feel as though I’m a harsh poetry critic. I know that everyone writes poetry in their own way and everyone likes their own types of poetry. This one just wasn’t for me. Everything rhymed, no exceptions; all poems were short and sweet; and to be honest it didn’t seem like much thought went into most all of them.
I’m not that big into poetry but I’ve been trying to get into it. In all the poetry collections I have read so far, there’s always at least 1 or 2 poems that I like within the collection. I can’t say the same about this one.
Gabrielle G. moved me with her evocative words, in which the manner was beautiful and raw!
Her poetry and prose captures the readers' attention and displays various facets to of love; whether it be self-love, physical or emotional. So many of them moved me and made me feel a connection to the words. To the Man I Loved Too Much by Gabrielle G. is an EPIC read that will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
why tf is goodreads putting this as if i read it before birthday girl. istg i have an ocd problem and i wanna change the dates so it is in order but i want the right dates on here 💀💀 and it wouldn’t be the first or last time they fcking did this. 😹😹
« I wish we’d rythme our worst verse I wish we’d follow our deadly hearse I wish we’d embrace each whisper But mostly I wish we’d love each other better »
