Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.

Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.

Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.

Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.

While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".

In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"

In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.

According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.

Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.

THE MOMENTS WITH JESUS ENCOUNTER BIBLE is a book that focuses on the life of Jesus in the four Gospels when he was on the earth. The stories are written in such a way to make children feel like they are there, in person, with colorful illustrations, and questions at the end of each story to help children think about and apply what they just read. A book that Christian families will definitely enjoy having on their shelves.

I thought that each of the short chapters were fairly well written, based on scripture references and stories of Jesus. They're easy to read and understand, especially as they're written as if the reader is there. I loved the illustrations! They were well done, full of color and interest. I also liked the questions at the end of each chapter to help children think more about each story and how it might apply to them.

My only issue with the book is that it felt maybe a bit too light or modernized in parts for my personal taste. I don't think most will have this issue though, and even then, it's a book I would definitely read with my children on a regular basis.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This was an overall inspiring and applicable children's book for those seeking to help their children develop a stronger relationship with Jesus. Children are sure to enjoy each chapter and all the illustrations. It's also a good way of providing opportunities for parents and children to talk about Jesus.

This book contains 20 Bible passages written in story form. It does a great job of saying what the Bible says in a new way to excite kids without compromising on biblical accuracy. Some stories explain cultural context not directly written in Scripture while also remaining faithful to what the Bible says. Each of the 20 stories is written in second person, throwing the reader into the story as a participant, either by observing Jesus' interactions with people or by directly interacting with him. Each story concludes with a "Let's Talk About It" section to get kids thinking about application and remind them that the story isn't over.

The book's illustrations are stunning, including excellent use of color, light, and dark to add to but not distract from each story. I imagine thousands of kids across the earth spending hours staring at the illustrations, getting to know Jesus through the message they convey.

All that said, I can't in good conscience give this book a 5 star review due to its readability. I noticed that there are a number of wordy sentences and was perplexed about the intended age of the audience. The back of this book recommends children ages 4 to 12 read it. I had an inkling this didn't match the text's reading level, so I typed passages of a few random pages into a readability/lexicon calculator and compared the results with the same from the Jesus Storybook Bible (which is recommended for ages 4+).

Reading Ease: Where the Jesus Storybook Bible received a 93.8 - very easy to read (the higher the score on this scale, the easier to read) - for ease of reading, this book scored 79.6 - easy to read.

Grade Level: Results of the six grade level tests I ran this book against are below, with the Jesus Storybook Bible's results in parentheses for the sake of comparison. I am by no means an expert in this area but figured the info would be helpful to others trying to decide whether to get this book for kids of a certain reading level.
7.9 - Gunning Fog (4.4)
6.3 - Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (2.2)
7 - Coleman-Liau Index (5)
4.4 - SMOG Index (3.5)
6.9 - Automated Readability Index (0.9)
7.9 - Linsear Write Formula (3.4)

Overall, I think this is a great book for kids AND adults! I hope Bill Johnson & Bethel continue writing and publishing books like this for kids.

This may not be a typical Bible for children, but it is one that they will be eager to explore. Moments with Jesus Encounter Bible is a collection of twenty stories from the Gospels, and children will quickly be immersed in the stories. Each chapter begins with a designated scripture and an introduction that begins with the word Imagine. 'Imagine lying on your back in the freshest, greenest grass.' ; 'Imagine being a guest at a beautiful wedding party.'; 'Imagine if you were a criminal.' What follows is a story that allows children to do just that: to imagine being there, in that bible setting, and experiencing what is happening. There are vivid illustrations that add to the story's appeal, and at the end of each chapter, there is a section with questions that's called Let's Talk About It. A perfect opportunity for parents and children to explore it even further!

Young people in today's society are bombarded with visual involvement and social media, and this book will entice them to read, explore, and learn more about Jesus. Moments with Jesus Encounter Bible is a beautiful, hardback book that would be perfect to give as gifts, and a fantastic addition to a church library.

I voluntarily accepted a copy of this book via FrontGate Media but there was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

The Moments with Jesus Encounter Bible does exactly what the title states – helps kids encounter Him for themselves! It places the child into the action. Written clearly so they will understand and comprehend. Prompting them to stop and think about how it would be for them; engaging them into the scripture through imagination. A skill that would be beneficial if continued after reading the book This book will be different for everyone, as the child (or adult) will have their own journey and thoughts. Wonderful storytelling enhanced with beautiful illustrations. Printed on study paper, this would make a wonderful addition to your home library. A new fresh way to introduce Jesus into children’s lives, A family treasure to be handed down through generations.

This is a fabulous and wonderful meditative introduction to the Gospel of Jesus to children. I loved going through it with my girls (ages 9 and under) as an evening practice. I highly recommend to parents who are looking for a creative way to bring to life and personalize the Gospel story to children. I wont lie; it's even great for adults too...

The general flow is that there's 20 chapters that in general walk through the high points of the Bible, with each chapter guiding the reader in thinking and reflecting from a first-hand experience of the story. So, it really tries to get you to think and visualize what that Biblical moment would have felt like as a participant to the story. Beautiful!
