Dragon Tails #1

Dream of Dragons

Rate this book
Every lore of every clan, across time and space, dreamed of dragons. Did you ever wonder why?

Erebu the Black Dragon must answer the Jade Emperor's summons to repay the debt for his miraculous resurrection from a fatal battle. Accompanying him is his Phoenix Mate, Sorin.

Their success is limited by seemingly arbitrary rules and an even more arbitrary sandglass of time. The only things they can count on is that: 1) each of their quests takes them to a time in the past, 2) they will witness (and perhaps even enable) True Love along the way, and 3) the Universal Balance hangs in...well, the balance.

Their first task is find and retrieve the Jewel of Dreams, and it seems that they've been plopped right into the Arthurian legends.

Except - nothing is as it seems.

For this quest, they have a third partner in a Treasure Dragon named Rui, a taciturn, humorless, solitary creature who dislikes Ere within minutes of meeting him. Thankfully, she's a badass fighter, which comes in handy when they enter a tournament to win a prize that may or may not be the Jewel they seek.

Competing in the same tournament is a dragon-hunter named Wolfe, a scarred, experienced warrior with a mysterious past and a penchant for killing dragons. Until, of course, he meets Rui, and the attraction between them can't be denied... If only she weren't a dragon and due to leave his world at the end of the quest.

The end of the world may be just around the corner. Along the way, enemies may become lovers, reluctant friendships may form, and lots of hot, desperate, this-may-be-the-last-time-we-have-sex sex will definitely be had.

And who knows, you may never want to wake up from this…

DREAM OF DRAGONS.

It's DONE. Done!!! I can't wait for the ARC to gobble this up in 1 sitting. But I already know and stand by my rating:

5+ dragon dreams stars!!! ⭐️ 🤩 ✨ 🌟 💫

Yup, read the ARC in 1 sitting. Sort of. Stayed up waaaaaayyyy past my bedtime to do it. Couldn't stop.

Lemme back up a sec and give some background:

This book is a spin-off/ continuation of the Pure/ Dark Ones https://www.goodreads.com/series/8550... by Aja James. The masterpiece paranormal-fantasy romance series to end all paranormal-fantasy romance serieses. (or the plural of series).

If you haven't read the series and you love paranormal-fantasy romance (ADULT, slightly erotica, as in HOTTTTT emotional sex), then you're missing out. I don't know what you're doing. You've been under a rock and need to get out more, etc.

MY personal fave couple from this awesome series is sort of the secondary MCs of this current series. As in - Ere and Sorin (best MM couple in the UNIVERSE) are the "red thread" that runs through the current series, Dragon Tails. And this is Book 1 of the new series, Dream of Dragons.

These 2 things combined already make it IMPOSSIBLE for me not to love this series. So my expectations were already high.

Well, as usual, goddess AJ delivered. No surprise.

What I love about this new series and this first in series is that it's connected to the P/D Ones yet also different. Unique. This series (thus far) is shaping out to be more fantasy-esque than paranormal. We're talking DRAGONS people, and time travel, and lots of myths and legends rewritten in totally unique ways.

This first book takes the MCs to the Arthurian Legends as you've never seen it before. If you think you know what's going on, you don't. You REALLY DON'T. I love this take on the same legends. LOVE IT!!

The main romance is between a dragon-slayer and a dragon.
Enuf said. I'm not usually a fan of enemies to lovers, but AJ does it SOOOOOOO well. As in, there's no STUPID angst and drama. It's all very natural and logical and real.

I LOVE the heroine, could be my FAVE heroine across all of AJ's books and that's saying something! At least in the top 3. She's just so ADORABLE! In a really badass way.

And I LOVE the hero, Wolfe. With a name like that, how can you NOT? No author does the strong, manly man (not alpholes to borrow Sabrina's coinage) type of hero better than AJ. GAH! Carmen had the foresight to Claim him for her harem, but... I might have to visit... He's to DIE for.

All kinds of intrigue, plot twists, ongoing story and world that will unfold in its own good time.

And did I mention ERE AND SORIN!!! GAH!! 😍😍😍😍😍

So yeah, 5++++++++ stars. I'll be reading this over and over. Can't wait for Book 2, Song of Dragons (Dragon Tails #2) by Aja James

I'm so happy with the ending! And so sad that it ended at all :( LOVE LOVE LOVE Wolfe and Rui!! And of course MY Ere and Sorin!!!

Sooooooooo...... I waited til Fri afternoon to start the ARC, even took a couple hours off work and rushed home to start it early. Was planning to update every chap as I went along, and well, that just did NOT happen. Cuz who has time for updating when I couldn't stop to even drink water or pee or answer my phone???!!!!

INHALED IN ONE SITTING!!!

description

This book just went by so FAST! The most dialogue that I've read in any of AJ's books, and as everyone knows, her series the Pure/ Dark Ones is my all time fave of all books every written. But hey, I will be open minded... THIS series may have a shot at usurping the P/D Ones if the current trajectory with book 1 continues.

Dream of Dragons is a spin-off from the P/D Ones. A continuation and a separate trajectory all at once. Here are the differences:

1) It's more fantasy than paranormal, as I think PUC mentioned. It's got time travel in it, more magic, and more adventure

2) It's all about DRAGONS!!!! But also brings into other lore across different periods of time and cultures. Not just around the P/D Ones which some could say is a unique and different take on "vampires and elves"

3) It's got MY FAVE couple of all time Ere and Sorin as the common linkage in the series (based on book 1 anyway) while focusing on a different couple in each book (but we shall see, this is only book 1!)

4) While the AJ magic and emotional connection and INTENSE LOVE is all there, as are the awesome fight scenes, etc., this book has a lot more banter and relationship development not just between the MC couple but between all of the characters. Friendships too! I LOVE the dynamic between Ere and Rui and Ere and the Master!!! (you can tell, I just f*cking love ERE!!!)

So yeah, other reviewers can give you a better summary of the plot and what all went down. Here are a few:

Don't have anything insightful to add except:

WHEN WILL I GET THE NEXT BOOK????!!!!

The description of the book tho... such a different tone vs. Pure/ Dark Ones and yet also similar (Ere's snarky sarcastic humor is RIGHT THERE! 😍😍)

I just can't get over it... WHEN WILL I GET SOME CHAPTERS???

I have received this ARC from the author and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly this gif explains the ENTIRE book so freaking well. I kept saying this phrase the whole time because this book was so much fun. I loved each and every page that I got. I also really adored getting to meet Rui and Wolfe. I shipped them so freaking hard, like so hard, that I wasn't surprised one bit by their little twists/reveals one bit.

Not sure if my detective cap was working today or not. Or maybe I was just really vibing with the clues in this one but I had opinions on what was going to happen and then I was so excited when it actually happened. So in other words.. I'm amazing and can predict things (in this book - only this one).

Other than enjoying the quest and romance, Ere and Sorin are back. Ere (aka Deadpool to my soul) was hilarious in this one. I loved his sass and all his references to his current life while in the past. He was definitely geeking out with the whole time travel thing and I was ready to by his hype friend.

In the end, I honestly love anything with dragons and I'm not sure what the next book will bring me but I'm so excited to dive into it. Also I will fight anyone and everyone for Wolfe. Including Rui. Sorry, not sorry.

Wow! Going by the first book, this spin-off/continuation will be even BETTER than Pure/Dark Ones, the awesome series that started it all…

What makes this new series so different and even more amazing is the one common link between all the books (hopefully! pretty please? 🙏): Ere and Sorin!!! ❤️ Ere is hands-down Aja’s best creation — one of my all-time fave characters, actually — and I can never get enough of his adorable, snarky self. Also, this pairing is pure FIRE! So yeah, having them as one of the main couples in each book is enough to make me very happy.

I absolutely LOVE Aja’s penchant for taking well-known myths (and even some historical facts) and somehow making them her own, incorporating them in her wonderful, original stories of eternal love. I was completely enthralled by her version of the Arthurian legend. It may seem like a cliché choice to some — after all, this is one legend that’s been regurgitated over and over again by more or less ambitious writers since its conception — but AJ’s twist on it changed the game completely.

Combining the legend of Arthur, Morgan le Fay, Guinevere and others with Chinese mythology full of dragons and other heavenly beings, and the Jade Emperor was surely a Herculean task, but she pulled it off BEAUTIFULLY! Everything fit together so perfectly, and exceeded all my expectations. She truly has a gift; I wouldn’t trust any other author to merge so many different plot threads (and time travel!) that seamlessly.

Last but not least — I loved the (other) main couple, Rui and Wolfe. Rui was a badass heroine, not at all one of those fawning and fainting damsels in distress (actually, if someone resembled a damsel here, albeit a very smart and resourceful one, it was Ere! 😂). And she was a freaking DRAGON! I really liked her no-nonsense approach to life, and how possessive she was of her Wolfie. He was a gruff, rough man, who led a hard life — one of those types AJ loves to write — whose tough exterior hid his passionate, honorable heart. I was a bit worried at first when he turned out to be a monster-slayer, but this pairing worked on so many levels, like all of AJ’s couples had so far. Amazing chemistry, great relationship progression. LOVED these two together!

Ahhh, I want the second book so much right now! 😭

I recommend this to all paranormal/fantasy romance lovers out there! Of course, the mother series, Pure/Dark Ones should be read beforehand — you will miss A LOT if you just jump into this.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thanks again, Aja! ❤️

RTC after ARC!!! But I just want to go ahead and say WOW.

I tried to read slow because my plan was to do small updates BUT that did not happen SO

5 Aja does dragons best stars!

Dream of Dragons is connected to Aja James’ Pure/Dark Ones. If you’ve read this series…I don’t need to tell you how deliciously perfect it is. And if you haven’t…well that’s on you. GO READ IT. You will not be disappointed.

description

So this is the first book in the Dragon Tails series and you’ve got Ere and Sorin who I would argue is one of the hottest couples I have ever read in romance as main secondary characters. Consider them the glue that will connect each story. I LOVE that Ere and Sorin are present and continue to bring the passion and heat that made me fall in love with them in the first place.

description

In Dream of Dragons, Ere has to successfully complete an adventure with his mate by his side (thank god) for the Jade Emperor before time runs out.

description

Ere and Sorin aren’t the only ones on this adventure though. Rui, a dragon comes along to help complete the task. Rui is the ultimate badass. I loved her naivety and passion and she just kicked ass. Literally and figuratively.

description

In their task, Rui meets Wolfe, a dragon slayer and she is drawn to him. But a dragon and a dragon slayer…how can that work?! Well, you’ll have to read to find out because…

description

Now Wolfe…can I just say no one writes an alpha male quite like Aja. I mean honestly. Nothing makes me swoon more than a man that can stand beside his woman and share in her awesomeness but also be her protector.

description

Before this review turns into dissertation length…what I loved most about this story besides the romance was Aja’s unique spin on the Arthurian Legends. I was concerned that the world she built in the Pure/Dark Ones would overshadow this world but I was SO wrong. I don’t know how she does it but I was mesmerized by the world she wove and it stood on its own in its own glory.

description

So without further ado, I just have to say that I adored this story…with its jaw dropping revelations and twists and well DRAGONS. I CANNOT wait to see what’s next. I know my fellow Muses feel the same.

3 'mixed feelings' stars

I was hesitant to start this spin-off because I'm not a fan of time travel but in the end, curiosity won and I had to see if this series is truly more fantasy-like than Pure/Dark Ones. The fantasy aspect is amazing in Dragon Tails and I love how the worldbuilding has expanded 👍 This world has just become so much bigger and I'm curious what kind of different eras and cultures are we about to "visit" in the future 🤩

I really liked this unique and different approach to Arthurian legend. Aja James masterfully intervened centuries-old myth with her fantasy story. I wonder if we'll get to meet some of these characters again? I was fangirling about meeting young Tristan! ❤️ I've always wanted for him and Ayelet to have their own book. (I mean, I'm dying to know how he got rid of Isolde, lol) I'm also interested in Morgan and maybe even Lancelot. Hope that all these characters are not gonna be a waste of potential 🤞

That brings me to my biggest problem with this book. I just couldn't get invested in the main couple. Wolfe was ok but not overly interesting. I was way more curious about his parents' storyline and actually everything that happened around Arthur's ascending to the throne. This storyline was presented to us in only some short passages but it was honestly my favorite part of the book. So, while Wolfe was average, I just simply didn't like Rui. I don't know, we just didn't click together and I couldn't stand her lusting after Wolfe like some kind of love-sick teenager (Sophia vibes anyone??) 🙄 Also, her attempt at sex talk was embarrassingly cringy. Overall, I felt nothing, there were zero emotions present and it bothered me that they seemed to not fight to stay together, . The only their scene I liked was . That was beautiful! 💕

The following quote is beyond beautiful but as I said, it sadly doesn't apply to Rui and Wolfe 😒 or at least I think their love is not especially grand then 🤨

牺牲有多大,爱就有多深
The depth of love is measured by the extent of sacrifice.

My second problem was a minor issue with Ere. Everyone and their dog knows I'm not a fan of Ere. I tolerate him and even like him in small doses but Ere is literally the definition of OTT and small doses of him are almost impossible. He's funny, he's hilarious, I get him that. However, when I'm trying to enjoy the splendid medieval setting, I don't want to listen to him babbling about his collection of Celine Dion's CDs. Ok, yes, I like Celine Dion and I guess that's the point of time travel books but just NO, please! 🤯 I know that his presence is the highlight for his fans, so good for you!! But not in my case.

What I do like about Ere is his relationship with Sorin. They are so good together!! 😍💞 (Only TOGETHER because I noticed that outside of their relationship, Sorin doesn't have much of a personality really... 😬) Yes, they are an amazing couple, so protective of each other!

“You are a meddlesome dragon,” he rasped into Ere’s mouth.
“But you love me to pieces anyway,” Ere said delightedly.
“No,” Sorin corrected. “Because of it.”

And that horse sex!!!! Wait, that sounds weird... Sex on a horse, maybe? Anyway, that was scorching sexy, and hot! 🤤🔥 Why is that not more of a thing?? It should definitely be a thing. Let's bring 'sex on a horse' into historicals! Or at least fantasy-ish historicals. I don't want to think about the dangers of that in real life 😮
Did I already say it was hot? Damn, HOT AF‼️‼️ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😏😏😏😏😏

That's not really relevant, just my rambling thoughts and my stupid brain being so obsessed with top/bottom dynamics in fanfics, seriously you can skip this 🤪 but I just never saw Sorin and Ere as a switch couple. I mean, Ere's whole personality screams pillow princess bottom IMO. Let the poor man be pampered, he's been through too much already and he deserves to get railed six ways to Sunday without needing to lift a finger about it, lol. But that's just my view of things 😄

Ok, moving on with a very important question. Will Merlin get his own book? 😯😯 He NEEDS it, we WANT it!! Simply said, it's a must 😎 I'm dead serious here. He's practically Tal 2.0 and that is so my type! 🥰 Love me some tortured heroes in desperate need of affection. I can provide! I really truly hope Aja James is not just taunting us with his character. I can already see the epicness of his love story 🥺 And I only hope we won't need to wait for ten books to have it 🤭 Now might be the time to summon some demon who grants wishes. Lolol, god I'm crazy today!! 🤪🤪

In conclusion, the idea was brilliant 👏 the story was interesting 👍 but overall the enjoyment of the book was significantly lessened by the fact that I didn't care for the main couple, only partially liked the side couple, while the characters I was interested in, barely grazed the pages 😕

Honestly, for the majority of the book, I was fantasizing about Shifu 😍😍😍 look, I have a theory that he's actually . There are not-so-subtle hints here and there and I'm 99% sure that I'm right. And if I'm not, don't tell me, I want to live in my illusion 😌😶‍🌫
So, if I'm correct and Shifu isn't his true form... in my head, he looks like Jun Wu from TGFC.

I don't know, maybe they are even supposed to be the same character?? 🤔 I know very little about Chinese mythology, so if I said something extremely stupid, please forgive me 😳🙈🙈

Need more visuals?? I can deliver 😁
He's from Yin Yang Master: Dreams of Eternity and I think he could make great JE 😊

Even an older version of him is good 😄 I mean, how old is shifu supposed to look like? Not extremely old, I hope 😆😅

These are just for bonus because he's hot 🔥😋🤤😍

So, second important question. Will HE get his book???

This is the first book in the new series from Aja James, Dragon Tails.
I give it Five Stars! (That's my official stance, but I will selfishly say 4.9 Stars for a reason I will get into below.)

I will be honest. I worried I wouldn't get into this new book or series. I am not much of a fan of historical romance, and while beta reading this book as the author wrote it, I quickly discovered it had been written in a time and land long ago and far away. But I never should've doubted AJ. Yes, the time was medieval, but the characters, or some, were not. And they kept me hooked to the very last page. But I very much enjoyed the olden characters as well. In fact, so much that I have claimed the hero from this book as MINE!

Wolfe. Wolfie. I will grudgingly share him with Rui, the heroine of this book, because I love her too, but everybody else listen up: Hands off!

So this book, and I predict all of the books in the Dragon Tails series will be written a little differently than what most romance readers are used to. The story begins from an unexpected point of view. That would be Ere. If you are new to Aja James's books, her first series, the Pure and Dark Ones (start here with Pure Healing (Pure/ Dark Ones #1) REBOOT2), ended with Ere's book (Dark Purity). Ere and his viking-like, hottie mate, Sorin, are my favorite couple from the Pure/Dark series, so I was really excited that their story continued into this new series. Ere is just not a character easy to let go of.
And Sorin... He is not someone I will ever forget. He is also MINE, though I also grudgingly share him with my fellow Muses, PUC and Starr. Oh, and Ere. I guess. 🙄

Ere and Sorin guide the MCs of the new series on a series of quests. And Ere's snarky, witty commentary blend the historical romance feel of Dream of Dragons with the contemporary language and humor I've come to know and love from Aja James.
So I, of course, loved this book. Don't throw tomatoes at my head, but it's my favorite from AJ. I have said that of most of her previous P/D Ones books, so the Muses call me out, but since this is a new series, I have decided it's fine.

And since this book is about Wolfe, I don't mind tomato filled hair if that's what I deserve.
Wolfe is my favorite kind of hero. He's strong and smart, though he'd never say so about himself. He's been tried in battle, scarred in battle and life, but he doesn't let that stop him. And even though he's the most stoic man, he is gentle and soft and open to love. He's a protector, but he sees the power and strength his Rui possesses and never doubts her, physically or otherwise. He lets his woman shine and is never threatened by her. A real man.
Oh, and he's REAL in other ways too. And scarred but beautiful. I'm still swooning.

Rui is a quirky heroine. She's a loner. She sees herself as someone without a sense of humor, but I found myself giggling at her throughout this book. Her journey to find love, her biggest treasure, even though it's something she never thought she'd need or want, was a pleasure to read. She may be my favorite of AJ's heroines, right up there with Aella from the Pure/Dark Ones series. Her intelligence, fearlessness, and her willingness to love endeared her to me quickly. I loved her "truffle dragon" personality and her badassness.

Even though I'm not a fan of historical romance, I am a fan of the Arthurian legends, which my husband has forced on me in the form of various movies and TV shows through the years, so I really enjoyed AJ's seriously fresh take on them. There are some crazy shocking revelations in this book that will have you Googling to learn more about it all.
And the magic and faerie tale luster of the world was enchanting too. Along with the dragons. Cuz, I mean, come on, dragons!

Now, on to my gripe. I am withholding 0.01 Star from my Five Star rating because, and maybe I'm just a greedy, horny Muse, but I need MORE. I won't go into spoiler territory, but AJ, can you please write an extra epilogue from the Four Seas? You don't have to publish it, but just send it to me? 😁

This book was fast-paced from the get go. I just reread the ARC in like six hours. Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but once you start it, you can barely put it down! The sex was H.O.T.
Read it! And come on the new adventures with the rest of us as we follow Aja James down the Dragon Tails road.

As always I was totally captivated by the author's signature of exquisitely written language. Every scene was so visually rich that I felt like I was watching the movie in the theater, not reading it on my kindle. One special features I loved so much was the heading in both Chinese & its translation at the beginning of each chapter! My favorite one was Chapter 20 山 ~ 脉 ~, Til mountains crumble/ Til earth and sky collide/ Not til then will my love die.

The fantastical pairing of Wolfe and Rui were ingenious, so romantic, so entertaining, humorous, adventurous, and yes, heartbreaking, too. I was so blown away by how the Arthurian Legend was played out here! Wolfe existed in the Dark Age, while Rui was from now and not even a human!

The reference to Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon invoking all I needed to feel about Rui's magical sword fighting style! I was falling in love with her even deeper.

How Wolfe and Rui (pronounced "RAY" ) found their Happy Ending happened lightning fast! Before I knew it, it all ended! What a breathtaking ending!

By the way ~ from the blurb, you might think that the book was all about Erebu and Sorin. Sorry to report that I didn't even notice that they were there! So yeah, I'd recommend you to please pick up this book and find out about them. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Sharing one of my favorite scenes:

"I am a man," he rumbled huskily when they were nose to nose, his big body bracketing her much smaller one, surrounding her on all sides. "This is my taking. Do you understand?"

She scrunched her face into a frown of stubbornness, confusion and defiance. "I am a woman. A warrior. A dr—" she cut off the last word with a clearing of throat and plunged on, "I want to take too, not just receive."

Wolfe put his forehead to hers with a groan. "Rui. . . "

"Very well," she huffed, making her body go lax beneath his, no longer fighting for dominance. "You go first. Then it's my turn. That's only fair. I will hold you to your promise." She closed her eyes. "You may proceed to swive me."

This is the first book I’ve read from this author.

But I do love dragons, I mean who doesn’t?
The problem is a lot of dragon books like shifter books tend to be heavy on the smut yet light on plot. I like a good mix.

The start of this book had me seriously regretting my decision to read it. And honestly if I hadn’t requested this book I would have put it down and moved on. I think it’s a huge mistake starting a book like this with a sex scene. Maybe not to readers familiar with this author but I wasn’t. I just assumed it was going to be more of the same and I really didn’t want to read it any more.

The thing is this book is so much more than that and it won me over within a few chapters. But if I’d just downloaded the sample I would have quit.

Anyway enough moaning about that.

This turned out to be a fabulous quest. An adventure with dragons I throughly enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the next one.

I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.

After the wonderful, fabulous, magical series,The Pure/Dark Ones was finished,i was worried i’d fall into a gap.
Because i love that series.
And it was done. Over. But Aja saved me.
She couldn’t say goodbye,either....
(Ok,so maybe a couple of Muses kept asking for more, but we were polite....weren’t we? It’s not like we harassed her,or anything....)

What she’s giving us,is that Ere is going to have to answer the Celestial Summons when it comes and complete each task the Jade Emperor sets before him. Within a timeframe.
But it’s a small prize for Ere to pay in return for a life with Sorin, right?
And Sorin ís coming along on each task.

In the first, they are going to have to find and bring back the Jewel of Dreams.
They are joined by a treasure dragon, and not just any treasure dragon,no this one is the best!
A little naive and innocent maybe,in spite of her age,but very good at sniffing treasure.

Rui doesn’t like Ere. The things he says, the way he acts....does he take ánything seriously?
Sorin,on the other hand, now thát is a male she could see as a friend,if she needed any.
Quiet and patient....but then again he would have to be with a mate like Ere....
Going treasure hunting with these two turns out to be not quite what she expected, though. First of all, they end up in Britain.
And not only that, but they end up in my favorite time, the time of legends,King Arthur’s time.
Added to that, they have left their “powers” behind, and will have to complete their task with only their wit and strenght. Needing cash and a place to sleep, they stop at a tavern. And that is where Rui’s life is about to change....

Because there is a man in that tavern, sitting with a friend, that she can’t stop looking at.
A man that,at first glance, has something she likes.
And at second glance, has something she suddenly wants.
And one that seems to be going in the same direction as they apparently are.
Wolfe brings something out in her she never ever thought would happen, her female side.
And as they travel towards their destiny, she wants to explore that side with him.
But they are all after the same thing,so technically they are advesaries.
And Rui starts to worry when she’s going to have to fight her Wolfe.....because she’d hate to hurt him.

Wolfe is a dragon hunter, and he is looking for the one he hates the most.
The tournament at King Arthur’s court promisses the winner a prize he needs in that search, and he’s determined to win.
But his new travel companions make it hard to focus on that prize.
Because one of them stirrs feelings in him he never ever thought he’d have.
And he starts to worry what he’s going to have to do if Rui makes it to the final round....

Things at Arthur’s court are not what they appear to be,and the power lies with someone evil. Someone who wants the prize, too. Will our heroes come out alive?
And will Rui and her Wolfe be allowed to stay together?
Because she can’t stay in his time....can she?
And he can’t leave it without consequences.....right?

Dream of Dragons has me excited for this new series.
A series that has old friends, and new.
That’s still based in the world i love so much, and travels to different times, with different people.
I adored Rui and Wolfe, they complemented eachother só perfectly.
And even though Wolfe hated dragons,he loved his Rui.
And Rui found the greatest treasure of all.....her Wolfie.

I loved how Aja took the ingredients of Arthur’s legend, and gave it a twist that made everything even more magical.
And i can’t wait to find out what she’s going to bring in the next story,Song of Dragons!

P.S. If you want to know more about Ere and his world,i suggest you read the Pure/Dark Ones. It’ll make you understand who he is,and where he’s come from. Why Sorin loves him so much.
And it’ll show you the magic of his world....that alone is worth reading the series!

I don't know how it's done, but I am completely in awe of everything Aja James created here.

I thought I was prepared. After the wondrous and life-changing experience of reading the Pure/Dark Ones series, I thought I knew what I was getting into.

I was wrong!

Getting to be with my beloved Erebu, my sweetest taboo, was just icing on the deliciousness that was this story. He and Sorin will always have my attention!

If you love retellings as much as I do, you're going to love this story. Actually, even if you don't care for them, you'll love this story. We're taken on a journey to Camelot to meet those who were believed to be mythical creations. There's King Arthur, Lancelot, Modred, Gawain, Morgan, and even Queen Guinevere. But nothing is as it seems and the way the author wove this tale... seeing is believing.

I am truly in love with the way this author blends mythology with legend and present truths and pop culture. She takes readers on a path that is both cerebral and emotional. And seriously, how can my emotions not be all over the place with everything she gifts us?

Meeting the celestial dragon, Rui, and watching her come to life and find her greatest treasure, Wolfe, was another uniquely beautiful experience like all the others I've been given by James. Each love story feels like the best wrapped present and seeing Rui find her humanity, witnessing her embrace everything that comes out of love, was extremely satisfying.

... as if her eyes had a mind of their own, they practically stretched out of their sockets to turn her head so she could sneak another glance at the warrior male.
Bright, citrine eyes met hers directly.
Shit.

Once again, I highlighted probably more than half the book, but sharing those would reveal way too many spoilers. I will say that I always wanted to know more about Tristan and I finally got to!! His back story was such a surprise and I was so happy to get those original glimpses of him. I still want to know how Ayelet came into the picture for him, how they realized they were fated mates, etc... But I'm just so happy with what I got that I'm willing to let those unanswered questions go... for now.

Quote from Dream of Dragons
"山无陵, 天地合,乃敢与君绝
Til mountains crumble/ Til earth and sky collide/ Not til then will my love die."

Well, I am impressed. When I found out Ms. Aja James was going to do a Dragon series, I was worried.
Why?
I read a lot of Dragon PNR and 99% of them 'Suck Eggs'.
They are without a doubt one of the hardest PNR type books to find a decent story in. So, my expectations were low. I actually did not expect to like it.
Color me 'Surprised'.

The world build and story line were well written. The two mc's, Rui and Wolfe, were fantastic characters. I loved them both. There is humor, lots of adult sexy steamy scenes, Butt Kicking scenes especially with Rui. I love a female mc that can really kick ass! And Rui has all the Kick Ass Moves! Tons of Action, Suspense, Mystery and Intrigue.

My only problems I have is I was left with a couple of questions in my head about Wolfe and the ending.

Overall, a great read and very well written. Looking forward to the next in the series.

First off let me start of by saying I LOVED IT!!! It was amazing so much going on, and I didn’t want it to end! I remember when Pure/Dark ones was coming to an end I was like noooooooooo! But this spin off OMG!!

Rui was amazing! She is kick ass and a legendary fighter I must say! She takes shit from no one! Then there is Wolfe who has lost so much at such a young age, and yet he is so strong and caring! He also takes shit from no one! So these two are evenly matched. I loved the fact that Ere and Sorin were in this book, and will continue on within the series! How freaking sweet is that!

Going back into the Arthurian legends was beyond amazing, and I loved every minute of watching this book unfold. So many twist and turns! An evil witch, zombie followers, a deadly tournament, and hilarious group of hero’s coming to save the day! I mean what’s not to love about this book?! Oh I forgot to mention DRAGONS!! SO MANY DRAGONS!! Easy to say this book was something I didn’t want to put down!

Numbers off the chart for this one! If I could give more than 5 I don’t think there would enough numbers to rate this one! Great start to an awesome action packed new series with amazing characters! I can’t wait to see what the next one has in store!

Happy reading!! 🖤🖤

What a wonderful way to start a new series! Aja has done it again.

As many of you know I absolutely loved Aja's previous series Pure/Dark Ones and it gives me such joy to know that she has continued to write more. This series takes place after P/D and she brings her wonderful characters along for this dragon tails ride. So if you haven't read P/D I highly recommend reading them asap. Of course, it's not necessary to start this series BUT there are so many small details you miss if you don't read P/D before. Plus, why would you not want to read P/D... I mean it is only one of the best, fun, thrilling, sexy, battle filled, adventurous series out there. Just saying 🤷‍♂️

One of the main (AMAZING) couples from P/D (Ere & Sorin) are the main "guides" for this new dragon series and oh how I love them to pieces. Super excited to continue my reading adventure with my 2 favorite people and yes, I am totally sam-wiched between them for this entire series.

In this series Ere is required to answer the Celestial Summons by the Jade Emperor to help assist other dragons on many quests. These quests are super important since the balance of the Universe is at stake. On the bright side Ere doesn't have to do it alone since he has his love, Sorin, with him every step of the way. Each book in this series is going to reflect a new quest and a new outcome and hopefully new friends for Ere & Sorin.

In this book we get to meet Wolfe and Rui and let me just say I LOVE THEM!!!!!! Wolfe is such a manly man. He is strong, rough around the edges, misunderstood, has a dark history, sexy, doesn't have a lot of friends and a loner. Rui is super quirky, also a loner, humorless, emotionless, doesn't have friends, keeps to herself and doesn't have time or patience for anything. This quest is set in Arthurian times and WOW what an amazing twist to the original legends. Absolutely loved the story, the details, the quest and the outcome. This book had everything... quest/adventure, love, time travel, true friendship, history, evil queen, powerful warriors (male and female), innocence, steam (lots of steam).

2 things I wanted to point out beyond everything else in this book:
1 - Having Ere and Sorin as the guide and seeing how the story is connected to P/D is truly amazing. We get to continue to learn more about this amazing team while still getting Ere's witty humor. I love that we get to see different aspects of Ere and also see his vulnerable side when he doesn't get to mind link with Sorin on their quest. You get to see how they become stronger together. Having them in this book also keeps a link to the other characters in P/D. We are introduced to Tristin in P/D and we get to learn more about him in this book, which was truly a great way to bind both the series together.
2- Wolfe and Rui were thier own main characters in this book and didn't get outshined by Ere and Sorin. A lot of times this happens in other books when so many MC's are presented, but this book didn't have that problem at all. I was invested in Wolfe and Rui's story as much as I was invested in Ere and Sorin's quest. I was rooting for both couples 😍.

Well I won't keep going on and on about how great this book is, BUT I will say that it is a MUST read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I totally read it in one sitting... I mean seriously who needs to pee or sleep or eat or even socialize with other people...

Cannot wait for the next book ❤️

First Impressions
Dream of Dragons is the first book in the connecting series by Aja James. This is a series that I have been really eager for. There is something about dragons that just draws me in. As much as I adored the Pure/Dark Ones, one of my motivator's in reading it was to read this series. I will say that these two series are very different if this first book is any indication on what the rest of the series will be like. I really respected what was delivered in this installment. I am not sure exactly what I was expecting, but it went a different direction than I expected because even though I knew it would be different, it was a whole new shift from what she delivered on the Pure/Dark Ones.

First Line
Ere was having the most decadent dream.

Summary
Erubu, along with his mate Sorin, are to fulfill his obligation to the Jade Emperor in the promise he made him from the debt that he owes from the epic battle. They are summoned and called to a mission to go back through time to a time that is obscure in legends.....The Arthurian Court and their partner in crime is Rui, a treasure dragon. Their mission to find the Jewel of Dreams. On their road to finding the jewel, they run into a warrior, who is an infamous dragon hunter "Wolfe". There is an instant connection between Wolfe and Rui, and despite them being on opposing sides of the tournament to win the jewel, they build a powerful relationship, but their love is forbidden because there is no happy ever after on the horizon.

What I Loved
The dynamics within this story was complex and unique in what is delivered. We also get another perspective in how we are taken back into the past. This was a thrilling road trip adventure with a blend of time travel bonded into it. Also you add in some fabulous laughs and a forbidden theme to the romance, its going to be my catnip. The first element to the story that was beyond infectious was the humor. The dialogue from Ere especially, was *Chef's Kiss* he was simply lively and just lightens the mood of the more serious plot that is placed into this story. While this author has some great humor in previous books, there is something about Ere that just adds a unique element in an aspect that I haven't found before in her books.

The plot of the story kept me on edge all the way through. I was fascinated with the world building. I rarely see Arthurian themes in books (And I have read a TON of historical romance in my time of living) so to see the way the author implemented this element was so different. I always knew she could write some superb plots in her stories, but the way this plot is developed on the surface seems like its not super deep, but with chapter, the complexity in the plot on builds greater. This is what truly shows her talent in plot development, is writing such complex plots in manner of ways that you don't expect to be handled. And how the conflict in the end was resolved especially involving the romance had such a deep resonating feel to it and so satisfying.

So even though we have two couples in this story, there isn't much confusion. On the surface, it might seem to be baffling, but it really is a delightful mix in how James really delved these two couples together. Getting to see some fun interactions between Ere and Sorin became so endearing. I apparently didn't get enough of these two in Purity, because seeing these two after their proposed HEA was so poignant at times. We get to see how well they get on together after their story has happened and it only reaffirms why their story is so powerful. Then we have the romance between our MF pairing, Wolfe & Rui, who are simply delightful. They are both warriors and they don't clash in the way that you would expect such strong personalities would. Even though they have such alpha warrior like behaviors at times, they also are both lonely souls yearning for more in their lives. We see how they are able to fill the void they feel and the way in which they are able to connect but also build such a beautiful vibrant bond.

What I Struggled With
So as much as I loved this book, it was far from perfect. The pacing in the first half, felt a bit off. Not sure if it was just a "Me" aspect or what, or maybe it was the author's change in how she writes that added to the pacing element of the story. But I really struggled staying completely hooked into the story. But once we get to the second half, I didn't want to put it down!

Overall View
Dream of Dragons is a story that enthralls you with rich history, fascinating relationships, laughs and thrills, and with the right touch of mystery to have you searching for more!

Favorite Quote(s)
What she wasn’t ready for was being in love. Especially with a man like Wolfe. Her dragon-hunter nemesis. The one and only male she would ever love. The most precious treasure she would give everything for, that she had no choice but to leave behind.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Why didn't I read this slower. I wish I read this ARC way slower, I'm already missing the characters soo much.

This book was everything. It was the first book to make me laugh and jump for joy, then cry in the next chapter. It was a total rollercoaster of emotion.

This book was so different from Pure/ Dark ones series yet it also gave me a case of Nostalgia. It had Ere and Sorin from Pure/ Dark ones, who I wasn't ready to let go of. I am so happy that they were in this book since they are my favourite couple from Pure/ Dark ones.

We need to give a round of applause to Aja because totally blew me away with how good this book was. I already knew she was going to be phenomenal and she was 10 times over. She surpassed my expectations by far, she is definitely in my top 3 authors.

Rui and Wolfe are the complete embodiment of opposites attract, they were so perfect for each other. They had so much sexual chemistry it left me with blue ovaries. Their relationship wasn't just sexual, they also had deep feelings for each other which changed into love. Wolfe changed Rui for the better, the change was so visible you couldn't even compare the Rui from the beginning of the book to the one at the end. The same is said for how Rui changed Wolfe fro a gruff, moody dragon hunter to a compassionate man

I can't wait for book 2 Song of Dragons

Dream of Dragons is the first book in the Dragon Tails series which is a spin off of her earlier Dark Ones/Pure Ones series. This is the first book I have read by Aja James and judging by the ratings of her previous books on Goodreads she seems to be a very popular author in the paranormal and fantasy romance/erotica genre. She definitely has a huge and loyal fan base.

I wasn't sure what I would expect from Dream of Dragons besides a lot of steamy sex scenes and the book actually begins with one but it turned out to be quite good and well written with a decent storyline consisting of dragons, a quest and a twist in the Arthur and Guinevere tale.

My thanks to NetGalley and the author Aja James for the e-Arc of the book.

Dream of Dragons seriously hit so many of my happy buttons...
- PNR with dragons!
- M/M and M/F with a badass female protagonist (separate couples)
- super hot smexy times
- a quest!
- plus, skewing historical legends on their ears!

I have a confession... This was my first Aja James book.
description
I know, I know.
I have been slowly collecting her Pure/Dark Ones series with the intent of finally reading my horde of books but I just hadn't gotten to them yet. (I read a review and it made the book sound like there were super tortured heroes (and/or heroines) like what Sherrilyn Kenyon writes, and I just couldn't handle that much drama, so I kept putting it off.) Well, now I feel super dumb for doing that, because damn! Where has Aja been my whole life?
description

The Dragon Tails series is a spin-off of the Pure/Dark Ones series featuring Ere and Sorin (Dark Purity) where they are tasked to perform certain tasks for the Jade Emperor.

The first task Ere and Sorin must complete is to find and retrieve the Jewel of Dreams. Tagging along with the super sexy duo is Rui, a treasure dragon. They travel back in time to Arthurian England (You know, King Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere, Merlin, and all that lot.) and get totally ensconced into the "legend" with a few fun fantasy spins and twirls. (It was so good, ya'll!)

First and foremost, I really felt left out because I immediately wanted to stop and binge the entire Pure/Dark Ones series to get the full Ere and Sorin effect. Not that I felt left out in the cold but because they were just such a great couple and as characters themselves.

Second, I loved the antithesis angle between Rui and Wolfe. Would-be enemies to lovers, Dragon vs. Dragon-Hunter, naive and pure (read: virginal) woman versus grizzled and experienced warrior but also super badass kung-fu (not really but Eastern fighting style) versus Arthurian, knights of the round table style fighting. Anywho, I dug it. Plus the chemistry between Rui and Wolfe was palpable.

The whole story experience just really did it for me. I loved the entire take on the King Arthur legend. Ere and Sorin sort of stole the show for me but that's not to say I didn't really enjoy Rui and Wolfe's story. I really hope we get some closure of Merlin, because, damn, that poor, poor dragon.

Just a note: There is some really delicious M/M action going on, so, just know that ahead of time if that's not been an experience you've read before. It's totally up my alley so I loved every second of it. The overall story is a M/F story, if reading a completely queer book is a concern. No judgment, we all have our preferences.

I would definitely recommend this to fantasy and PNR lovers and I absolutely cannot wait to read Song of Dragons! (Which I totally scored an arc copy for so I will def be binging that one soon too. Yay me!)

Ooh this was a fabulous read! I've only read one of James' books before and I'm wondering why I haven't read them all! I loved Ere and Soren, they're such a perfect couple and balance each other out well. I think they've probably been in other books before this one so I'm going to read those too. I also liked Rui and her Wolfie, these couples kill me with how adorable they are.

The plot is fun and I liked the little jokes and sass from the characters (mostly Ere.) The twist on the King Arthur legend was done in an entertaining way and everything fit together well. There's also plenty of romance and hot and heavy scenes which is how I like my books lol. I can't wait to check out the other books in this world!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all opinions are my own. Thank you to IBPA and NetGalley for the copy

This is an Arthurian retelling, with dragons, phoenix's, time travel, magic and lots of sexy times.
This story starts of with a bang, literally, the opening scene is some hot guy on guy action, with who I thought were our main characters based on the synopsis, but Ere and Sorin tend to be more background supporting cast in this story even though it's technically about Ere repaying a debt he incurred when he was allowed a rebirth.
We mostly follow Rui(dragon in human form) and Wolfe(dragonslayer in the dark ages) who are incredibly attracted to each other, which confuses Rui who's never had these feelings before and worries Wolfe because he's a bastard and unworthy.
I don't often enjoy Arthurian retellings because I tend to find the plots very sluggish, but this was a fun, very sexy romp where Guinevere is the villain of the piece. I hope Ere and Sorin are more of the focus in the next book though, I like the contrast between the characters and would like to see more of the depth between the bonded mates.

I received this as an ARC through NetGalley and IBPA

Here's the thing. I don't like Ere. Even though he had a huge redemption arch in the series I can't get over all the things he did as a villain. That....and I think his character is kind of bratty and not in a fun way. This doesn't mean I hate him but starting a series where he plays a major part was a worry for me. I was wrong!

I could ignore my dislike for Ere because of the setting of the story. I'm a sucker for stories set in the period of King Arthur and the author didn't disappoint. Also I enjoyed the pairing of Rui and Wolff.

Not going into spoilers further. Good read, great setting!

OMG I just can't with this book! I absolutely LOVED Ere , Sorin, Rui and Wolfe !! I didn't know what to expect coming into this book because I'm kinda a Pure/Dark one series snob but she did it again . I devoured this book. There was so many interesting things and so many things happening. Rui is a bada$$ and I love to see a female in a role like that. This book is magical and I can't wait to see what adventure is next!!!

I received a copy of this book from #NetGalley and this is my honest review.

I didn’t fully appreciate that this series was a side story / follow on from the Pure / Dark ones series and got myself in a bit of a panic as I have only read 4 books in this series so far.

In truth I have read this book and have been able to pick up the threads quite easily and haven’t felt as though I was missing pertinent information.

This story to me was like the book cover! It is colourful, immersive, full of fun and action with some sarcasm and a fair bit of steam thrown into the mix.

I still class myself as fairly new to the world of good paranormal books and sorting the wheat from the chaff can be a laborious process. I have tried a few books about Dragons that have definitely been chaff. This book is definitely wheat!

I loved all the main characters and their developments and interactions with each other. I loved the mixing of the historical time with the modern references and the world building was great. I can’t wait for book 2 in this series.

Dream of Dragons by Aja James is a wonderfully imagined world of dragons, immortals and a quest
to find the Jewel of Dreams, a demand made by the Jade Emperor and not to be ignored!
The author of the Pure Ones series of books doesn’t disappoint with this first book in a new series. Drama, adventure, love and magic reside within the pages of this very well written journey through the inner and outer sanctums of reality.
Steamy of course, exotic and engaging without a doubt, characters who will elicit emotions of varying degrees and who will subtly engrain themselves into the reader’s heart to be sure.
Fantastic read and highly recommended.

Not quite sure what to make of this book that uses Arthurian Legends woven throughout the book. As a fan of Arthurian Legends, I've always seen Arthur as powerful not an empty shell. That being said I did enjoy the story on its own merits. I look forward to seeing where this author takes this series next.

MORE ERE AND SORIN!!! YAAAAAAY! THAT OPENING WAS FIIIIIIIIIIRE!!!!

I've got to say, what an interesting turn of events. I love the spin on the Arthurian legend and how everything just falls into place.

Rui's and Wolfe's chemistry was *MULTIPLE EXPLOSION SOUND EFFECTS* lol.

Can't wait for more Ere and Sorin adventures. I feel like their main mission other from their actual missions is to hook up their chosen companions with their eternal mates Lol

Sexy Time travelers trying to save the world and throw in some Dragons and a land of Myth you have an epic story

🐉 Rui and Wolfe.... I absolutely adored these two together... "My wolfe"

🐉 Chemistry between characters is off the charts i mean "Phew" Throw me a martini!

🐉 Arthurian Legend!!! This books Take on Camelot and the twist of the story was Brilliant!

🐉 Ere... Every book im loving him more... Hes a sarcastic tainted Peter Pan! Love how he and Sorrin Balance each other out so well....

🐉 That cover!!!!!!!

So you Ask all these amazing Factors why a 3.5 star.....

The concept and characters are Brilliant... its just discrepancies in the story that make no sense whatsoever for me.....

- Why Is the Master such a Twat.... Hes a bit like a horoscope if your born between signs... no real answers..... There is no rhyme or reason for his demands and actions and he explains absolutely nothing which is the whole Base for the story.

- No one can time travel to the future.... But then the book contradicts itself when others come from the past no one questions it....

**I received a review copy through NetGalley.**

When the opening scene of a book is hot-as-fuck sex, you definitely have my attention and affection. Dragon of Dreams is part of a new series by Aja James and a spin-off from a previous series that I haven’t read. And while there were moments that made me think, “I really need to read that series!” it was only because I wanted to know more NOT because the information was necessary for this book.

As an erotic romance, the ending is predictable but what makes it such a good story is how we got there. Rui is an interesting character as both a no nonsense warrior and dragon and as a woman discovering her sexual side. The contrast was very stark so there were times the switch was a bit incongruous but not enough to ruin the story.

I also enjoyed how the author turned the tale of King Arthur on its head a bit (no spoilers but it was definitely interesting and I didn’t see a couple of the twists coming).

Hot sex, fun story, and interesting characters — I’m excited about this series and can’t wait to read more.

So I am not sure where to begin....but no ifs ands or buts I LOVE this book❤️❤️❤️. I have always felt that the first book in a series can be tedious or overwhelming for a reader because of the world building or just being introduced to a ton of characters, but this is not the case. Aja James has a stunning way to writing and creating these fantastic worlds and characters👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You can't help but become enthralled by her books.

I enjoyed how we got the cross over with Tristan, it was great to learn more about him. I enjoyed the historical aspect of the story. Erebu and Soren as always are just absolute perfection😘 I just adore those two so so so much. Oh boy, oh boy....I LOVE Wolfe and Rui. I am captivated by them! I love their dynamic, strength, and oh god their PASSION 🔥🔥🔥. The story is phenomenal. The action, drama and plot twist are riveting.
