His brothers sold him, then his mistress's desire sent him to prison. But Pharaoh's desperation elevated him to the palace and commanded him to save Egypt. But the nomarchs' greed dashed all hopes of saving the land from famine despite everything Pharaoh Amenemhet III, Joseph - Lord Paanekt, Scribe Mahesa, and Lord Khay could do. Did El Shaddai, the foreign God of Joseph, wield enough power to keep not only Egypt, but Joseph's family and native land from death? Previously published by the Review and Herald Publishing Association as A Story, All My Glory is the newly edited author's edition of the story of Joseph and his brothers.
I had borrowed this book, All My Glory by Terri L. Fivash (previously published as Joseph: A Story [2002]), some years ago and really loved it! Unfortunately, it got out of print and was really hard to find. Finally, Fivash has republished it with a new title as a Kindle ebook and I got the opportunity to read it again! It's by far the best retelling or novelisation of the beautiful Old Testament character of Joseph and his coat of many colours! The story of Joseph is one of my very favourite accounts in the historical Biblical narrative and I love the way Fivash, while keeping true to the biblical narrative, has deeply engaged with Joseph's unique character, the extraordinary events in his life and the historical context of his work and impact.
Synopsis: Based upon the narrative provided us in the book of Genesis and meticulous historical research, Fivash paints a compelling panorama of Egyptian society, with authentic Egyptian names, clothing, and customs, and draws us deeply into Joseph's world. The author creates a detailed picture of daily life in Egypt with a cat of 80 vibrant characters. Her narrative, filled with fresh insights into one if the greatest stories of all time, unlocks the secrets of the culture's that cradled the Exodus.
You will deeply empathise with his sufferings as he's sold into slavery and learns to trust in the God of his fathers in his darkest hours. You will cheer as he continues diligently to serve his new master, how he maintains his integrity and faith in his God through prison and then through the complicated world of court intrigue to become ruler under Pharaoh. You will delight in his conquest of the heart of the beautiful Asenath. You will weep with him as he reunites with his long lost brithers and shows such great mercy & forgiveness. But above all you will be left with a deeper faith in Joseph's God, who providentially guides the life of His faithful children. As Joseph said to his brothers who had betrayed him and sold him into slavery: "As for you, you meant evil againt me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today" ~ Genesis 50:20 ESV
This is a new edition of the first book, "Joseph: A Story." I have read and reread the first edition about every year since I bought it. This is my first time reading this new edition. Most things stayed the same except a few details moved around or added. The main difference I noticed were the typos. It seems as if the author had been rushed in editing this version with all the misspelled words. Despite this, the story is well worth reading and I enjoyed finding new details that enhanced the story after almost ten years of reading the book. I'm not sure which edition of the story I'd recommend to new readers as the newest edition had the typos but also new details and enhancements.
I loved the original “Joseph” by Terri Fivash, but I love this revamp even more as it adds clarity to several parts by expounding further upon those plot areas. This is hands down the best story of Joseph I have ever read. It makes me laugh, cry, all the feels. Thank you for the wonderful re-release.
I have reread this book in hard copy probably five or six times, so I was delighted to see that the author had finally been able to put it out as an ebook. So of course I had to read it again! It is by far my favorite version of my favorite story in the Bible. I have loaned my hard copy to so many people that it is battered and worn.
Love how the author develops Joseph’s story and doesn’t just make everything seem wonderful. She presents Joseph as a real person with emotions and baggage. He must continually give his life to God. Does a great job weaving the biblical text and creative license. Love how the different storylines end up coming together.
My dad let me read his copy of the book when it came out, absolutely loved it! And finally able to get my hands on a copy it’s phenomenal! One of my favourite authors well worth the read!!
I loved it. I couldn’t put it down and finished in 2 days. I love Biblical History and have looked often for a novel of Joseph. I’m so glad I found this novel in electronic form under its “original” name. I know I will re-read it over and over again
This is a fun read. There were a couple of grammatical errors, but it didn't slow me down. I read this outloud to my husband on a road trip. We both enjoyed it.
I love how the author injects the story with historical and cultural aspects of life in ancient Egypt and Canaan. It really paints a picture in one’s mind.
