Avery Shaw never saw marriage on the menu – and when she did, she avoided it like liver and onions – but it appears her life is about to change. She simply can’t decide if it’s for better or worse.
With matrimony barreling down on her, she needs a distraction, and she gets it in the form of a warning. Apparently, she’s on the hit list for a local dealer who is trying to move in on turf she’s responsible for cleaning up, and news that she could be marked for death has her fiancé Eliot Kane in a tailspin.
Avery likes it when things line up her way. Unfortunately, very little is going how she envisioned in her life right now. Between her archnemesis Tad Ludington being fully recovered and back to his old tricks and her mother demanding a say in wedding preparations, Avery has her hands full.
The drug trade in Macomb County runs deeper than anybody anticipated, and the more Avery digs, the more she realizes that the case she thought was closed up tight is still open and ongoing. With an intern on her tail demanding attention, Avery is determined to uncover a secret so big it could blow up certain political circles within the county.
Eliot is by her side but his fear regarding the new people in Avery’s life is palpable… as is Sheriff Jake Farrell’s annoyance when he realizes what Avery is chasing. He wants her cut off from information, which isn’t something she will just sit back and accept.
It’s a war of the worlds this go-around for Avery, and the only chance she has to walk down the aisle is to figure out exactly what is going on. That’s easier said than done when she’s got a price on her head and people actively trying to thwart her every move.
She wants her happily ever after, and she’s determined nothing is going to stop her… not even death. Strap in and get ready, because Avery Shaw is taking no prisoners. Not this time.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I’ve always loved the Avery Shaw series but this one takes the cake! I love how they got married and then the secret keeping to try to keep Avery’s mom happy. I still wonder how Jake will fix things with Avery. Can’t wait until the next installment!!!
Wanted this for so long but now it's here I'm sad because it's all but the end of the line..
Avery and Eliot start this trip in Vegas.. traditional Vegas rules apply.. on their return Avery discovers her name is on a hit list, joins Tad's latest task force, delves further into the Hypno case which she's positive Jake is holding back on, saves Andre from arrest, is betrayed, threatened and almost kidnapped.. it's all in a couple of days work for Avery! She's feisty as ever yet somehow not as she's settled into her new state.. she's hoping that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas though because murder will definitely be on the cards if it doesn't!!
By the end she'll get the wedding of her mother's heavily reduced dreams but it's a race all the way to try and beat everyone else to the headline.
This was a fun read, but then any book with Avery Shaw is going to be fun because she always causes mayhem. In this book Elliot and Avery are getting married. Nobody thought this whatever happen, but its not just a wedding, its a mess as usual and Avery has to do some cleaning up. What is surprising ais who betrayed her.
Great entertainment and great fun. Definitely didn't see where some of the storyline would take me. Wished her grandfather had a few more parts. Still, a nice mystery and fun read. Recommended series. I'm glad I gave it a chance as The first two books didn't quite draw me in.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all 18 of these books in this series. I don’t do spoilers so I won’t tell you which ones were my favorites or which comments made me laugh spontaneously until I could barely breathe. I will warn you to finish that last bite before turning the page because you never know what is coming or from what direction. Amanda M. Lee is an incredible author and I am a complete fan of strong female leads and characters but when you add sass, snarks and a whole lot of smarts it makes for something phenomenal especially when you throw in male counterparts that give that balanced oomph to the storyline. Yes, I will be waiting with crossed fingers that there is another one coming, I would hate to say farewell to some of my favorite print personalities.
I never get enough of Avery Shaw. It has been a wild, humorous ride watching Avery become an adult. Of course she still isn't there yet but making strides. Amanda has a true gift in telling her stories. Avery has always been my favorite but I love all Amanda's series. I hope we continue to see more of Avery's antics!
Okay that was awesome, I have loved Avery from the very beginning, and I have loved everything about her from her snark which is exceptional to her learning to become an adult which has been a truly wonderful and delightfully funny journey, this story brought it all together and even though she was mad at Jake to the end which he deserved it was still the best happy ending. The mystery was dramatic and thrilling there were mouth plot twists to keep me happy even if I picked the bad guy from the start I still enjoyed the journey to the end... okay I may have enjoyed it more if Tad had been shot again but hey we can;t have everything...lol The intern is kinda growing on me... maybe. I’d love a bit more Carly and Lexie but I also get that this series has changed from Avery being single to her and Eliot being a unit and I love that to I just miss the girl shenanigans a bit.
Avery is in over her head and even Eliot and Jake may not be able to help her. Will she finally make it down the aisle will things go to far this time? If she can figure out Whodunit there might just be a Wedding. Grab your copy and prepare to laugh out loud as mayhem and madness follow Avery Shaw into trouble. Weddings and Whodunits will leave you laughing and maybe even shedding a tear or two.
Author Amanda M Lee has said that Avery Shaw is her favorite character to write...and it makes her one of my favorite characters to read as well. She is all kinds of awesome - smart and stubborn and snarky! This latest adventure challenges a lot of different net parts of her life - but in true Avery fashion she’s determined to figure it out and win. I love how she and Eliot are such a strong team together - they have great things coming their way. I can’t wait for more of Avery’s story.
This book was more heartwarming than funny in that Avery and Eliot get their happy ending wedding. I missed the typical humor as there was less grandpa but a good installment all the way around.
This book is amazing, just like all the books in this series. But deep thoughts, I just realized why I love Avery as much as I do. She reminds me of me before I had kids and I had to grow up. All the growing up she has done in these 18 books is amazing. And reading how she wanted to handle Jake, reminded me of how I have to deal with things now that I’m adultish. Don’t miss out on this series. The author is known for her paranormal series but even without the added magic, the series is magic itself.
Avery Shaw is one of my favorite characters and this book did not disappoint. The wit, snark and personality are fun to read. This was a great adventure in the Avery Shaw series by Amanda M Lee
This was the best book in the series so far. Each new addition to this series improves which is amazing as they are excellent. I love how Avery evolves! This novel had mystery, snarky sarcasm and loads of laughter plus a wedding. Loved it!
Actually to me it was the best because it showed how multifaceted Avery is emotionally . I laughed and cried and got angry which shows you how great of a writer Amanda Lee is. Eliot you are the man of my dream but you really belong to Avery.
I adore this series. Avery Shaw is a everything. All the characters play off each other really well and all have their own personalities. The only thing I had a problem with is She would have known. She would not have been surprised like that.
I loved this one. Avery, Elliot and Jake had me laughing and crying. I'm glad Avery and Jake will be ok as friends and I'm really glad that Avery and Elliot got married. I get so emotionally involved in all the books in this series. I can't wait for more.
Nothing beats Avery Shaw. Amanda keeps the stories fresh and me laughing. The family dynamics and the love hate relationships make you want to read each book over and over. Can't wait for next one.
I absolutely adore this whole series but with that being said this book was one of my favorites. It had mystery, humor, love, betrayal (that I never saw coming) and a wedding! Must read
You can't go wrong with this series! If you love quirky, mouthy, and adventure you must read this series. If you don't absolutely love Avery Shaw then you are either in the wrong genre or are just a troll. Please never stop writing these books.
I love Avery, Elliot, and Jake always. There was lots of snark as usual and its always fun to see the way Avery's mind works out what ever puzzle life has put in front of her.
Seriously. She’s one of my favourite characters and none of the books in this series disappoint. This was particularly sweet, as well as snarky, and hilarious. Loved it!
Between Avery Shaw and Witches of the Midwest, I am enthralled with Amanda M. Lee! I love all the snarky, hilarious moments. A total joy to read her books! Only bad thing is I read in one sitting and have to wait for the next one!
What can you say about a book that has so much going for it? Great, Amazing , Hilarious,Try to catch your breathe funny, more snark than a room full of twelve year olds?!? All I can say is thank you Amanda M Lee!
I absolutely love this series! I would love to be more like Avery. The plot and subplots move quickly and the twists made it hard to put the book down. I actually laughed out loud in several parts. I can't wait for the next book!I
Was this addition to the Avery series, it was funny and full of surprises. The narrators voice for the audio book was annoying but the book itself was great. This is going to be one of my favorites. I love how the relationships are all evolving. Highly recommend.
Don't get me wrong. I love Avery, but the way she claims to be so independent and then let's Eliot run her life is nauseating. He maneuvered her into living together and then getting married. He comes across as extremely manipulated but cloaks his controlling behavior as 'worried for her safety'. And Jake is worse. No wonder Avery wouldn't get serious with him as an adult. I hope the author reads her reviews because I want to tell her that the strong woman she gave us as a main character is being taken apart piece by piece. As much as I love Avery, which is the only reason I'm still reading this series, I'm debating whether I should just throw in the towel. Don't give us a strong female lead and then rip her away. I found myself snarling at Eliot and Jake's behavior to her. And then at the end when everyone tells her to forgive Jake???? Hell to the no. He betrayed her. And I wouldn't tell Eliot anything else about my job. I'd leave him out and do whatever the hell I wanted.
I have a question, why do none of these women cook? I'm a strong, self sufficient, feminist and I love cooking. I'm also very good at it. I would think it would "round out" their character better and make them less needy and whining. Avery whines A LOT! What is it that turns these men on ? Snarky, "bad assed" women. I don't get it. I enjoyed this book despite my comments above. Good characters, good plot and not a coffee shop in sight!
Hallelujah bells are ringing as Avery and her fiancé Eliot Kane finally marry. This is my fav book in the series, since it is accompanied by the hilarity that always accompanies Avery, as sarcasm and humor and it is a peculiar charm.
But somehow her reporter job manage to interfere, drive her family insane, fight with her cousins, immersed herself in a drug war and attempt to take out some of the main drug pins, finds herself on a hit list, embroiled in a battle with her arch nemesis and fighting off her wedding crazy mother who is planning the a wedding Avery and Eliot want in just a week. Hmmmmm, overachiever much?
And there are biggggg secrets that spill out that could get Avery killed, by the drug lords if they find out what she knows. Or her family if they find out what she has done and she hasn’t told them. Or her mother if she does find out. Alllll kinds of secrets - it’s hilarious.
Love the author, adore her series, particularly Mystic Caravan, and this one is a snarky witty delight fav as well, and an absolutely worthy read
