I recieved this books as an ARC from NetGalley in exhange for my honest review.

I'd start to say that i haven't read the previous books, wich made me a little confused since it's lots of characters that has their own stories in the other books. That being said it's alright to be read as a standalone about Tyler and Donovan, and whilst i sometimes did not agree with their relationship and how Tyler treated Donovan, they grew and learned about each other and opened up through out the book. I think myself i want to read the previous ones, some time.

Predatory picks up pretty much immediately where Undertow ended, and while Donovan is the new POV character and thus opens up a whole new arc about his own magic and his relationship with Tyler, it's definitely not a standalone.

Content warnings include: sex on-page, BDSM (impact play, pain play, bodage), graphic injury (broken bones, bruising), mentions of: murder, drug abuse, death of a sibling, domestic violence (parent beating child.)

The Port Lewis Witches series's overall arc is getting more important. Victor and Michael from Unbroken appear, and while their part isn't so big that you wouldn't understand it if you hadn't read that, I still strongly recommend the book!

I liked Donovan from the first time he appeared in Darkling. He's the youngest of the circle and struggling with his magic, mainly with the Were Leopard inside him. There's also a bit of uncertainty about his earth magic, but that was barely mentioned.

Despite the overarching plot, the main focus of the novella lies on Donovan and Tyler's relationship. The previous books have hinted at it being extremely toxic, which it wasn't, though it also wasn't entirely healthy.
They are kinky, and while they do have communication issues their kink is well negotiated with several safewords in place.
Overall I enjoyed them a lot as a couple.

The previous books in the seris have a bit of a world building problem, which wasn't really resolved in Predatory, but it's barely noticable anymore. I'm enjoying the setting a lot and each book establishes the setting more and more, though there still could be a bit more background information. Predatory does very well in this area, for example with Donovan going to his normal classes in one scene, and I loved seeing these witches and their culture in non-magical day-to-day life and situations!!!!

As usual, the frequent sex scenes were superbly written. There was quite a bit of angst around the main relationship and the plot and more, but it never got overwhelming.

I received an ARC and reviewed honestly & voluntarily!

This was definitely not my fav in the series, but I enjoyed it!! I'll be honest, Donovan was never my favourite and I don't think that changed through this book, but it was interesting to see the story from his point of view. I'll definitely be picking up the last one to see where the series ends up!

content warnings: violence, child abuse, magical drug use, explicit sex, consensual pain during sex

“This was an endangered version of Tyler, a part of him Donovan only caught while they were alone together. He’d seen it when they were dancing, pressed close and breaking boundaries, heard it when Tyler called him baby, felt it in a smile hidden in Donovan’s neck after an edging session. [...] That smile—the one Tyler gave him, coy and loose—came from a place Donovan wished he could access whenever he wanted.”

I can't even express how hard you are all sleeping on this series! This is the third installment in the Port Lewis Witches series and follows Donovan, a wereleopard trying to deal with his magic, his fucked up relationship with Tyler, and the messy situation his circle mates have gotten them all into.

This book delivers on everything all the other ones did; great writing, fantastic atmosphere, hot, kinky sex, endearing characters, it's all still here! This is easily one of the most consistent series I've ever read and I could genuinely read ten more of these and never get bored.

I fucking loved Donovan and Tyler's relationship. You may not know this about me but I am a sucker for a good angsty romance, and these boys deliver. They're both full of so much angst individually and put together they're an angsty mess. But even with all that sweet, sweet angst, there are still several incredibly well-written, incredibly erotic sex scenes that are probably the least kinky of the series thus far, but are still super kinky.

I can't even express how much I love the constant explicit consent throughout the sex scenes that Brooklyn Ray writes. There's also frequent discussion of things like BDSM etiquette and just generally how to make sex not suck for the person you're with, and it makes my lil heart sing to see all of that in a witchy erotica new adult series.

I'm also loving the direction the plot in this series is going. The plot generally will take a backseat for the sexy times, but that doesn't mean that Brooklyn Ray is slacking off in that department. The trajectory of the plot is so interesting and I love how it manages to weave all the characters together in seemingly effortless ways. I will never get tired of the fun cameos that are littered throughout this series.

Honestly, this book was a perfect third entry in this series. I'm so glad I saw someone I'm following review the first book because otherwise there's no way I would've ever heard of this series, and my life would be much worse for it. If you want a quick, witchy, sexy read, then you should definitely pick up this series, you won't regret it.

Geez Louise. I don't even know where to start. Damn, this has been one hell of a series and this book just sent it in the stratosphere. The relationship between Tyler and Donovan, the shifting, the trickery, the secrets, just everything. There is so much packed into this book and it just becomes surprise after surprise. Just when you think it's over and everything is somewhat settled, something else happens.
Without giving away too much, Donovan is a were. But can't shift. Yet. You have to read to find out all about that. But I knew he was special. I knew it. But what is troubling him as well as his were trying to come forward, is his relationship with Tyler. It's volatile and way too much at times. And it doesn't help that Tyler treats Donovan like he's nothing most of the time. Unless it's time for sex. With everything else going on from the last book as well, Leviathan and all her crap, everything is too overwhelming. Donovan tried to take matters into his own hands, only to almost kill himself by accident. But he knows he needs to do this to protect his friends. When Samhain arrives, everything comes to a head. And it's not a good thing. Almost all of them die or are hurt and Tyler comes home to the surprise and heartbreak of his life. Especially after all he's been through with his parents. Just when they thought things would calm down, something had to happen. And they may not come back from this one.
Donovan breaks my heart. This 'thing' with Tyler. I get BDSM, I get needing pain. But sometimes I want to seriously throat punch Tyler. He is such a dick. I know he has a lot to deal with at home and a lot to shoulder being the head of their circle, but still. But Donovan breaks me. He just wants love and acceptance. After losing his father, a part of him is still lost and it's so hard. And after all that's been happening within his circle and himself, he feels like he doesn't know which way is up. Which makes me want to smack Tyler more. Sheesh.
I have to be so careful here. I've already given away more than I should, but like I said, this book and this series is amazing and it's one you guys need to read. It has totally surprised me in a good way and I'm so happy I picked it up. You don't know what you're missing. Now I'm waiting to see when the next one comes. It's supposed to be from Tyler's POV. And I'm anxious to see how it plays out. Especially after this ending.

I really enjoy the worldbuilding in these books, I like how the plot continues and builds through each one, and I like that all the characters are present or show up, regardless of who each book focuses on.

That said, this was my least favorite of the 4. The relationship between Donovan and Tyler was entirely too toxic for me to get invested or root for them to be together. I saw too much of my past abusive relationship in this one; my ex in Tyler and my refusal to leave even though he was killing me in Donovan's refusal to ditch Tyler and find someone who genuinely cared about him and treated him with respect. The resolution that was supposed to make it all better for them really didn't sell it for me.

The author writes well and weaves an interesting story. So the series is definitely worth picking up, but if you've had an abusive relationship in the past or are sensitive to that type of thing, tread carefully with this one.

I really felt for Donovon here and just wanted to shake Tyler so many tiiiimes. But we got to understand Tyler a bit too. My heart was in my throat so many times cuz the author is so good at writing emotional scenes.

This one continues from book 2's events so i would suggest reading the first two books to know what'a going on.

We also get the whole gang here:Ryderrr, Liam, and Christy too. Their circle dy amics are fascinating as always because everything seems to be going wrong at once and seeing how each person deals with it is such a key insight into their personalities.

The excerpt from book 4 shows that we get Tyler's pov next and I cant wait cuz he'a such a complicated character

cw: racism, abusive relationships, negative portrayal of bdsm

y i k e s. fairly similar arc to the previous two books but the crisis is more internal and this time we get Donovan’s pov, with insight into his relationship with Tyler... and it is NotGood™️

Tyler is being abused by his parents and he is abusing Donovan. everything about how the romantic relationship is coded screams intimate partner violence and the fact that this is also the only explicitly bdsm relationship in the series so far, and ofc it features impact play, is super shitty because it blurs those lines and makes it seems like the abuse is ok because Donovan is a masochist and NOPE.

it feels like someone who isn’t involved in the scene attempting to do a positive portrayal and failing spectacularly.

plus this one is overtly racist, as opposed to trying to show it isn’t through a failed analogy :/ a shame as these were fun and had solid potential.

Yikes! If anyone needs a lesson in communication it would be Tyler and Donovan. I feel that Donovan didn't know any better because of his maturity level and he's only nineteen. Tyler is the older partner, but he'd never practiced BDSM before, so the lack of communication and not knowing quite what he's doing is a recipe for disaster. He redeems himself though, thank goodness.

Personally, I enjoyed the story...it had a raw amount of energy to it and I appreciated the grotesque/painful sounds of bones breaking as Donovan experienced his first shift. I don't know why, but I always prefer it when authors describe the transformation as being painful. I mean, human bones are breaking and being reshaped into an animal, so that should be painful as heck!

Okay Tyler redeemed himself a little and now I'm actually excited for the next novella that's gonna be from his perspective even though I could have done without the lack of communication between Tyler and Donovan.
I also love the turns the plot has taken.

Ninestar press was kind enough to send me Darkling and Undertow so that I could catch up before I read the most recent installment. I loved these two books.

Let me tell you, this series is well worth the time you’ll invest to read the entire thing. In Darkling, Ray introduces the reader to Ryder. Ryder has a lot of secrets, and his partner, Liam – a water mage and storm wielder – knows some of those secrets – others will blindside him. Ryder comes from a family of Necromancers. It’s a divisive history to live with and Ryder has struggled with all his family members. Born a fire-witch, Ryder can feel the darkness within him that is fighting for dominance. The closer Ryder and Liam become, the more their energies feed off one another.

The cast of characters is rounded out by Christy the psychic who is an absolute sweetheart, circle leader – Tyler who is an air-mage with a volatile temper, Donovan who is a new witch with earth-based powers. When Ryder and Liam become “tethered”, the group pulls together to try and get to the bottom of what is going on within their magical circle. They should be defending each other, supporting each other but it seems that all of them have secrets they are keeping.

The second installment in the series is Undertow and focusses on Liam. Liam hears the heart-stopping cry of a Kelpie one night while he’s down near the ocean, and it stirs up something inside him that threatens his existence. This story is difficult to describe because I found myself unable to put it down. I was wrapped up in wanting to understand what was going on with Liam, his family, More is revealed about Ryder’s family, and the circle is strained to the breaking point. Liam is given a prophecy that he can’t even imagine fulfilling because it might mean giving up everything he loves.

This brings me to the newest installment of the Port Lewis Witches series: Predatory. In this tale, Ray focuses on Donovan Quinn. Donovan is the newest of the witches. Donovan is entangled in a relationship with Tyler. I say entangled because their relationship is a little insane. I was fascinated by the power imbalance between the two of them and the undertow of emotion and affection that was almost painful to read about.

Undertow ends with a terrible incident that polarizes the circle, and Predatory picks up with people divided over what to do to try and appease the wounded parties. One of the problems that keeps cropping up is that the progression fo Donovan’s magical prowess seems to have stalled. He can sense that there is something raging inside him and feels as though he’s moments from losing control.

Tyler and Donovan’s relationship is one of the most interesting I’ve read in a very long time. The dynamic between these two is absolutely scorching, a little frightening and sometimes heart-breaking. I loved these two boys and would gladly read an entire series just about them! thank you, Brooklyn Ray, for writing one of the most unique and original couples I’ve read in a long time!

This series has a well-rounded set of diverse characters. They’re fully developed and I fell in love with them all for different reasons. They’re delightfully magical, and no one is pure-good or pure-evil which I loved. This is a complex tale, but don’t let that stop you from beginning the journey. I’m delighted to see that there is another book coming in this series.

Predatory is available for pre-order from NineStar Press on June 21! You’ve got time to pick up the other books and catch up!

🐆 YOU CAN READ THE FULL REVIEW ON MY BLOG 🐆

Predatory is the fourth installment in the Port Lewis Witches series. It follows Donovan Quinn as he and his circlemates deal with the consequences of Liam’s action. This novella is set right after the event of Undertow, so this review will contain some spoilers for the previous novellas. There will be no spoilers from Predatory, though!

Predatory is one of my most anticipated releases in June, and it’s not just because I was dying for more Tyler content, thank you very much. What went down in Undertow got me so on edge. What do you mean Liam is a fae? What exactly does the Queen of Water want? I need answers! Donovan and Tyler’s relationship has a few of my favorite romance tropes as well. If there’s anything I like more than friends-to-lovers, it’s a person with commitment issues (Tyler) trying to be with the one and only person they care about (Donovan) without having to define the relationship. I’d read the first chapter on Brooklyn Ray’s Patreon several times, and it’s really good. Needless to say, my expectation for this release was very high.

And my expectation was met!

I loved Predatory! It’s not the best installment—Unbroken sets a pretty high bar for me—but it’s definitely my favorite novella from the series so far. It’s angsty, dramatic, and so so soft and emotional. I do have some mixed feelings about it, though. I will explain what I mean in my full review.

Predatory is the third installment of the Fort Lewis Witches. It can easily be read on its own although better appreciated after the first two,if only to understand the reasoning behind the choices the characters make in this book.

The members of the coven need to find a way to save Liam's life and the only solution seems to be bringing out Donovan's tiger. Not an easy feat, because he hasn't yet found a balance between his were, magical and human sides.

Predatory is Donovan's story and it's absolutely gripping and intense. There are so many emotions battling inside him and my heart broke to see him suffering. He hates and loves Tyler so much, not knowing for sure where they stand,if they even have a relationship, and it's tearing him apart. Brooklyn Ray did an amazing job at describing his struggles and inner conflict.

I've been glued to tha pages of the book, engrossed in Tyler and Donovan's love story and curious to see if the coven makes it. The ending really took me by surprise and I can't wait to see what happens next.

4.5/5.0

#netgalley. #Predatory

Trigger warning: mature readers. Rough Sex. SM roleplay, hot wax play and extreme sex.

I am absolutely fascinated by Donovan and Tyler's sexual relationship and their open exploration of fantasy, erotica and desire. The sex is exciting and hot, but also respectful and safe. This series keeps getting better and I find myself totally invested in Donovan and Tyler. Both so opposite, yet so "familiar". The use of familiars is brilliantly done, adding dimension to the both of them and their sexuality. Their openness and willingness to learn and grow as a couple is refreshing.
I recommend this series to anyone interested in male to male erotica, or is looking for a fresh mystical story with bold sex play.

This is the third novella in an NA contemporary fantasy series. Each book follows a new member of a circle of witches and every single time I pick up one of these books I think it can't possibly be as good as the last one and yet. It is. They are. They always are. The writing is heavy with atmosphere and magic. Each character we follow feels unique. The emotions are so real and I love that we see so much of all the previous characters because they're all together. Each book builds on the overall story but is a whole story in itself as it's based on the single characters journey. The series is so magical and so very queer and I can't wait to read the next one.

There are some neat twists in the overall plot, but getting to understand Donovan was such a treat for me that I almost feel like the other stuff is a bonus I'll appreciate later. And finally understanding Ty better as well - inasmuch as secrets only lead to more questions - just makes me even more eager for the next installment. Donovan meeting Michael and Victor was a strong hint for me, but also a neat surprise. (Read 'Unbroken' for their story, my favorite demon romance so far.)

If you haven't read this series yet, and you enjoy magic and witches and etc, what are you waiting for?

I could not finish this.

I am very sensitive to the BDSM and though I’d read the reviews that mentioned it, it looked like it was more a side issue than it was.

I’m sure it’s a lovely addition to the series, but I don’t like BDSM dynamics so I did not finish this.
