Everything Porter Davies has worked for is about to be ripped away from him with one throw from a rodeo horse. The hits don’t stop there, either. He’d known they’d come for him one day. His father had been the best spy back in his day and they’d been keeping tabs on Porter since he was eighteen. “It’ll be just one job” they tell him now, but it’s never that simple when the one job is Willa Alderidge.
Willa Alderidge’s father is one of the most famous tech geniuses in the world, but Willa was never one to sit back and take what she didn’t earn. She worked hard to graduate at the top of her class and fought her way up the corporate ladder to become the vice president of her father’s company. The one place she found solace was show jumping. Out there, she wasn’t an heiress and her ability wasn’t constantly questioned. Instead, she was just another jumper. Until one day everything in her life changed.
An unknown man threatens Willa and those she loves for access to her company’s confidential and powerful technology. She thinks everything she’s worked so hard for is lost when faced with a no-win scenario unfolding around her. That’s when Porter Davies falls into her lap, literally. Can a rough rodeo rider and an elegant show jumper join together to save more than each other?

Honestly?...From this whole book, This scene was everything for me🖤:
“You really know Ahmed?” Deshaun asked finally. Porter pulled up his phone and hit the call button. “Good evening, Porter. What can I do for you?” “What are you up to, Ahmed?” Porter asked as he held the phone up for everyone to see. “I am walking Nemi. She was a good girl and ripped the balls off a dummy at the training center today. I have to keep her trained in case your cousin hurts my daughter.” “You love Dylan,” Porter reminded him. “What do you and the three men around you need?” Ahmed asked instead of admitting he loved his son-in-law, even though it was obvious to everyone around they both loved each other very much. “How did you know there were three of us?” Deshaun asked. “I am Ahmed.” Porter pressed his lips together to stop from laughing.
Porter and Willa's story was hilarious and sweet♥️
I liked Porter and Willa as a couple, I liked the premise of why she was in danger, and then it lost me. What assassin stops to ask for directions from a local?
Forever Thrown is the sixteenth book in the Forever Bluegrass series (Bluegrass Book #30) by Kathleen Brooks. ‘Bluegrass’ combines romance and suspense, with a touch of Southern charm. A few years ago a friend recommended this author, and her many series, to me - as she had devoured every book and absolutely loved them, singing the author’s praises from high from the hilltops. So, being an avid reader who loves discovering new authors and enticing reads, I took my friends recommendations seriously, and started amassing Ms. Brooks many books, with the plan to have a huge binge session/buddy read with my friend. But with so many books on my TBR, and new, exciting ones releasing every week, I always seemed to get pulled into other books- as these just kept piling up. Since part of my yearly reading challenges for the past few years has been to dust off my TBR pile/s and read the books that have been languishing there the longest, I decided to finally dive in and get the series read. While I did ‘enjoy’ the books for the most part- I didn’t fall madly in love with them as my friend promised that I would. But that’s ok, I am really happy that she loves them as much as she does. But for me, they were just an ‘okay’ read. With plenty of small-town drama, intrigue, angst, chemistry, humour, community, family, friendship, charm, mystery, tension, danger, emotion, and suspense- the stories are about finding love unexpectedly and love conquering all. The books can all be read as standalones if you wanted, without feeling ‘lost’ or like you are missing big pieces of the picture. This is because each instalment introduces its own ‘couple’- providing plenty of romance, a dash of suspense, and some sweet development to make your heart flutter. But I have to be honest, I found there were a few issues which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the stories/series. Such as the ‘wordiness’ which really slowed the flow of the storyline at times, as there was such an overwhelming amount of detail which didn’t really ‘add’ to or propel the story in any way, except to perhaps distract from the plot. I love details, normally- but not when there are pages of descriptions, as things tend to ‘bog’ down and the flow/pace/plot gets lost amongst the detritus- and also leads to some ‘wandering’ storylines. There were also many loose ends, for me- threads that were left hanging, or not fully woven into the storyline- which I found a bit frustrating. I really wanted to love this series as much as my friend did…. but instead, I was left a little disappointed. Happy reading! 📚💙
There isn't a book of yours, Ms. Brooks, I haven't loved! Keenston Ky, Shadows Landing SC, Women of Power, etc. However, Porter and Willa's was exceptionally, omygosh fun! One can always expect "just a little insanity" in Keenston, but blackmail, "a UN of contract killers, and of course the biggie, the battle of the sexes! All while, Grandma Marcy, that's Mrs. Davis to the President, is the biggest, most exceptional spy, manipulator, power individual in the entire Keenston family, let alone the World... All while Porter and Willa are falling rapidly in love, along with fighting of killers, evil snobs, and family get togethers! You and any possible new family member who can get through a family dinner, well it's might, definitely be true love! Back to the exceptional, laughing my self silly! This along with all Keenston and Shadows Landing novels are fun, yet this one had me rolling from the beginning to the very end! I couldn't put down, as normal, I simply waited until this morning, after keeping myself awake to finish reading, to write, frankly another review of what I have come to expect from you, excellent writing that totally draws this reader in and keeps me thoroughly entertained! Sooooooo ... NEXT...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Karen PS. What happens when the final match is made? I cannot imagine no Keenston, Ky in my life? 😂
These books just keep getting better! I love the emotions they drag out of you- the tears you cry, the laughter that you can’t silence- it’s like coming home to family!
Willa and Porter’s story is no different! There are laughable moments, but that loving family vibe shines threw the pages, making you feel like you are a part of the town.
I love that Miles is never letting anyone live the spoon thing down, and that the girls have taken it on themselves to interrogate the girlfriends! Oh! And that convo in the hospital waiting room was hilarious! And don’t forget the family dinner- that may have beat all the others!! I love Grandpa Jake’s contribution- “don’t forget to zig-zag!”
I have been reading this authors books for years- and I honestly can say there isn’t a single one I don’t love! These are all must read books- they are my go-to’s when I’m in a slump, or when I need an escape from reality because my Keeneston family( and extended family in other series) is always waiting between the pages! Do yourself a favor and go read these books!
And if you are looking for audio books to try- definitely try these Eric’s narrating is amazing!
How Kathleen keeps track of all of the families and friends, their occupation and each personality s beyond, but I guess that’s what makes her and this series so great.
Willa and her bestie Tilley fit right in with Keeneston and the crazy inhabitants. In this story, the women take center stage since for the first time, we had some serious woman hazing for the lucky lady connected to Porter.
A few funny parts to look out for whil you enjoy this installment (no spoilers)
Our new royal baby and the hospital time with Sloane You can actually kill someone with. Spoon, who knew. Dinner at the Davies is never just dinner. I’m not 100% sure they ate dinner this time. Don’t mess around with Mrs. Violet and her soufflé You won’t believe the number of assails coming to town..even the nicest one we’ve ever met Pam has another notch on her belt
You’ll get to visit with all of our friends and family, witness new life, and see the next love connection.
As always, this story was funny, witty, filled with nosy family and weapons galore. You will not be disappointed.
😂💗I *NEVER* get enough of this town!!! Let the adventure begin!!!!
Once again the underground spy network in Keeneston and Grandma Marcy's 🍏apple pie are on full alert and ready to come to the rescue! Filled with so much hilarity, action, intrigue, suspense, romance, and a brilliant cast of characters that will leave you laughing AND cheering every step of the way! I've been a fan since the inception of the the very first genesis of this series and have grown more in love as the core families within have evolved along the way. I double dog dare you not to chuckle while reading this wonderful hybrid of comedic action/romance/suspense. It is part of a substantial series, and though technically you might not have to have read all the previous books...I *strongly* suggest checking them out at some point so you have a better understanding of all the subtext and deeper understanding of these amazing characters. Trust me....its sooooooo worth it 😉😂😂😂😂.
I'd give this story a 3.5 but there are no half-stars. I like the Bluegrass series and the families who live there. I love the story of Porter and Willa.
There are elements in Keeneston, KY, stories you must know about. The Davies, the cousins, and the Rahmi royalty are bad asses. They like the adrenaline rush of weapons and danger. all of them, including the very young ones, could easily dispose of a body. (2) You have to know the townsfolks to appreciate them--the Blossom Café and their geriatric owners and the young relatives who've joined them, the Belles, the panty dropper, Pam and her Hummer, etc. (3) You need a detailed family tree on the families and how/if they are related. There are always MANY characters here, but otherwise, it's not Keeneston.
I like this series, and I will keep reading the ensuing stories. But I'm glad I started at the beginning before I started mixing up latter books.
I love this series because we get all-loving, fun, and wild characters; each one knows what they want and goes for it. Never do they let fear stop them from getting what they want. A family-oriented, joyful read you will love.
Porter Davies is a man that knows what he wants, and he competes to win. He has a rodeo accident that changes his life, and Porter is asked to investigate Willa. What he finds changes his life and makes this an incredible story full of twists and turns.
Willa is very passionate about everything she does. She has to earn her way up with dedication and hard work. Willa is an intelligent woman that knows what she wants. Willa loves horses, and family is one of the things that connect her to Porter.
It is an action-packed story full of fun, excitement, and beautiful characters that will have you laughing out loud and wishing you could join them. A wild and entertaining page-turning story.
Another lite romantic suspense in the Bluegrass series. Audio is well done by Eric Dove and this book has a retired rodeo star getting mixed up with the CIA and a tech guru's daughter who also competes in horse show jumping events.
Porter Davies one of the Davies clan from previous books in the series has to end his stellar rodeo career due to injuries. He is planning to run his rodeo stock and training business when a CIA agent from the past recruits him for 1 job. The job is finding out if Willa Alderidge daughter of tech genius and show jumper is going to sell the key to their newest technology.
This to me was a bit sillier than some of the other books with a lot of standard jokes about the town and other characters which seemed a bit repetitive. If you have read other books in any of the series you already know a lot of this info. Overall still an enjoyable listen.
I love the Keeneston Families, Porter Davies wad a rodeo champion. He was forced to retire, because of the head injuries he had over the years. However he still loved Horses. His father was a spy for the CIA, and his children had been groomed to be the same. The CIA needed Porter just this once so he agreed. Willa was the daughter of a wealthy father you was a tech genius. She worked hand and hand with her father. There was also secrets, national security secrets she had to protect with her life. The usual excitement of Keeneston, a few shootings, a murder or three. This book is a thriller. Porter and Willa fall hard and fast and literally are running for their lives. I loved it, I can’t wait for the next one, Greer and Sebastian, oh wee….
Kathleen Brooks never disappoints me with her books. I always enjoy reading books that are written about KY since that is where I live. She describes the rolling hills, green pastures as well as the beauty of the horse farms perfectly. The story of Porter and Willa was read in one day. Both had a love of horses which was the draw for them to become a couple while putting unwavering faith in each other to stay protected from the many assassins coming after them for an encrypted ‘key’. Bets were flying on the app the moment they met for wedding dates. Love those Rose Sisters and their wily ways. Loved the book and needed the laughter from the speed of Kale with a hurling Brian to the Hummer Driving Pam missing out on the action.
If you are looking for a series that is enjoyable from beginning to end... Look no further than the books from Kathleen Brooks!
A laugh out loud and action packed book is what you get from Forever Thrown. Porter and Willa are a couple you will absolutely love! small town charm with a touch of badass is what you get from the town of Keeneston. Trust me.... this town will become a place you really wish existed with people you would love to meet. While each book is a standalone in the series... it is far more enjoyable to read in succession. With doing so, you get to take a trip to a place you would love to visit. 5+ stars...
This is Porter and Willa’s story. Porter has just had to retire from rodeo and not exactly happy about it. He gets contacted by Agent Naylor about a job for the CIA. Of course this involves a lovely lady and horses. Willa has taken on the job of finding a new location for her fathers high tech firm doing work for the government. Willa and Porter meet and not only do sparks fly but lots of explosive action coming at them from all sides and places. Not only many of the Keeneston residents appear but we get a visit from the folks we met in another of Kathleen’s series. You don’t want to miss this one.
Oh! What a dark horse Porter is! He can protect me any day! He may have been in the shadows behind all the large personalities and dangerous acts, but he finally steps into the light and proves...you should never underestimate a Davies. However, the one thing he can never protect Willa from is a Davies family dinner! Danger, shots fired, verbal sparring, spoons and of course Apple Pie...will Willa survive? Jam packed full of Keeneston crazy I loved this book! I also really like the new characters we meet here, especially Tilly, who is awesome and I hope she keeps Parker on his toes!
When an injury ends Porter's career in the rodeo, he doesn't get a change to devote much time to his ranch before the CIA enlists his assistance via threatening the career of his brother. Willa is in charge of a tech company with ties to the government. When her life and the country is at risk, Porter and Keenston work to maintain safety. Willa is competing in a horse jumping event in Lexington and Porter must use this chance to find out if she is a threat to the country through giving up tech secrets to keep her father safe. There's so much humor in this book and passion. Lexington was much less exciting when I lived there. Time to move back.
Porter and Willa did seem to be the perfect fit for each other. Both have a love of horses, each has made a career out of performing with them. However, the whole plot of assassins coming into town to try and get the skeleton key got really out of hand. It seemed like no one could figure out where Porter lived until the end? That made absolutely no sense. The whole town got into the act of thwarting the threat, which got really old quick. I wanted more Porter and Willa time and less assassination plot. I am always thrilled to dive back into the Davies family, but this one just was ho-hum for me.
after 16 books for the cousins n friends, will say this is the worst one.
so many argumentative lines, so many area doesn’t make sense and logic,
what sophie’s product it unreasonable, if she really make them for real, then she can rule the earth. that’s kind of spy in the small town not make sense, especially the canadian.
knew that 16 books plus the fathers in seven and three for the ladies, it doesn’t count the cousins in another small town, maybe it’s time to put hers down and seeking another
I was wondering how she would write Porter story and I was a little worried that it would seem forced into the series but it wasn't. It is really good fit. I enjoyed the characters and how they interacted. This is now one of my favorite in the Forever Bluegrass series. I'm usally doing so many things at once that I don't have time to sit and read. I started reading for just a bit looked up and it was a few hours later. I am now buying the Audible version so I can listen to it.
As usual, Kathleen Brooks delivers a fantastic read, following our favorite Kentucky family. My only concern is the lack of proofreading. Since retiring, I read more now than ever, and I'm finding that the errors are starting to bother me. I'd gladly proofread for any of my favorite authors, just to make sure others have an enjoyable reading experience. Anyway, looking forward to more Kentucky and South Carolina family members falling in love with humor and suspension.
Overall Amanda rating: A++ I have waited so very long for the next book in this series, and it did not disappoint. Porter has been a smaller character throughout the series, and yet I still feel like this book did his character justice. I loved getting to check in with the past characters as well! Willa: I could not have written a better character for Porter if I tried. She is spunky and cute, and not afraid of his family! I simply love this author and have yet to read a book by her that is not worth finishing! The plot/storyline was absolute perfection. Such a great read. :)
Forever Thrown features Porter Davies, a rodeo star who’s pulled back into the world of espionage when Willa Alderidge, a brilliant tech heiress, becomes the target of a dangerous criminal. As their worlds collide, Porter and Willa must work together to protect everything they hold dear. The chemistry between Porter and Willa is fantastic, and the tension between them is palpable as they face the threat of danger. Brooks expertly combines suspense, romance, and the world of espionage in a way that keeps readers eagerly turning the pages. Forever Thrown is a high-energy, heart-racing adventure that will captivate fans of romantic thrillers.
The thing I love about Kathleen’s book is that each one you read is better than the last.
Forever thrown is a delightful read and I just love the character of Willa and how she fits perfectly not only with Porter but the rest of the keeneston family. The book has everything you would expect with romance, suspense and brilliant humour. I’d highly recommend this book and oh my gosh I can’t wait for the next two books eluded to.
Okay it's kind of a cliched say must read But this is a must read! Willa and Porter amazing together.I have not laughed or cried But left more in a book this is so good. You get to see the whole town again you get or see everybody you love you get to see Women just taken care of women. Please get this book and if you haven't read any of Kathleen's books please do it now! She is an amazing writer!
Suspense, hilariousness, small town acceptance and love, hand to hand combat, a hummer ramming into a bad guy (by a soccer mom no less), and so much more. Oh, and horses, can't forget the horses. Kathleen takes a small town inserts suspense and intrigue adds a large dash of humor fills the gaps with love of family, friends, and some romance, of course.... and turns it into an amazing book.
Kathleen Brooks has done it again! All the good good feels of visiting Keeneston and the Davies family again with so many laughs to the point of snorting with this one. Love how Willa’s true personality emerges as she is taken into the fold with hugs from the Rose sisters, Grandmas, Mothers, Aunts, Uncles and so many cousins she can’t keep up. The family dinner was hilarious! So sad I have to wait so long for the next visit to Keeneston!
I swear I had the best time ever reading Porter and Willa book. I laughed so hard at the comedic reliefs. Kathleen out did herself this time. It held the same rank as Ahmed book with the humor and events. Willa was a breath of fresh air that I had to take after she tried the tea. That was the funniest thing EVER... Hands done one of my favorite scenes.
If you need a great comedic romantic suspense, the queen has truly delivered.
I loved this book as it had my interest from the start. It was humorous and had me laughing out loud. Loved the abundance of characters, the large family(s) and circle of friends. I would love to visit the town described but alas it's fiction. I especially appreciated the romantic scene as apposed to the more crude adult scenes in other books. I like this authors writing style and will be reading more of her work.
And we're back people! The wild, crazy bad guy ending, gun wielding, hot, romance giving cast of Keeneston is back! And with a whole slew of omg, laugh out loud, fart taser moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat and flipping them pages as fast as you can!
