For years, Connor and others in the colony have unraveled the mysteries of New Earth and the global catastrophes that nearly destroyed its previous inhabitants. Their work led to the discovery of other worlds beyond the known universe. It became clear that many of those worlds had been attacked by an interdimensional invader that left untold amounts of manipulation, hardship, and annihilation in its wake. It’s only a matter of time before the colony becomes the next target. When a trusted ally requests Connor’s help to investigate claims of new widespread invasions, he has no choice but to help. Connor believes that the only way to stop the invader is to find their homeworld, but its location is a closely guarded secret. Many civilizations sought to discover the invader’s homeworld and none have succeeded. Time is running out for the colony, and Connor and a team of CDF soldiers may be the only thing that stands between survival and annihilation. Invasion is the eleventh book in Ken Lozito's First Colony series and brings to an end a major story line regarding the Krake. The book would have benefited from one more line edit focused on polishing sentences and paragraphs. Sometimes his word choices and phrasing, while acceptable, is not what it could be. I suspect the author was in a hurry to get the book out and settled for some less-than-stellar prose. Despite that, this is an entertaining page turner. Lozito is an author you can trust to deliver the goods.
I started reading this series because it is one of the few SF series out there that deal realistically with the struggles of colonization on an alien planet, and since I happen to writing such a book myself, I thought I'd see what other SF writers are doing with this theme. I'm glad I did. Lozito knows the science well enough to avoid blatant blunders, and writes a rip-roaring books. If you haven't started this series yet, I recommend it.
Will the Krake masters of universes win, or the wily humans survive
The Krake had been studying the Overows for centuries subjecting to brutal life and death experiences in many universes. Their predictive models included life death choices. They had advanced gates that allowed them to hop into other universes at will and dominate all comers. Imagine being able to instantly travel any known multiverse, world. But, there was a new player, that was very creative, whose best and brightest came and set up a new colony. They seemed to attract danger from their willingness to explore and learn. Their success was built not just on their scientists but with combo of deadly spec old elite fighters. Fortunately fhe humans had a chance to get establish and crank up their just ahead of the Krake discovering them. Men's ability to create ultimate unbeatable villian, tech and societies makes it hard to put his books down Thanks Ken!!!!!.
An action packed wrap up to some of the main storyline so far. Part of me wonders if the Krake story got to this point too quickly, but it made for an exciting read. One of the best in the series so far

This book was awesome! Excellent action it ties a lot of the pieces of threads from the other 10 books together. The ending was like the endings in life somewhat sudden and surprising in some cases. I thoroughly enjoyed the writer's style in bringing to life the characters. There was some sadness and some happiness. I really hope this is not the end of the series or that he will spread into the universe a bit more.
Wow! We've come a long, long way with the First Colony also known as New Earth. General Conner Gates is still here and he's still doing his thing with the Colonial Defense Force (CDF) although he's no longer the guy in charge, or should I say General in Command. That title belongs to Nathan Hayes, a young protégé he had previously trained and the only person Connor felt that could run the CDF as well as he had. General Gates wanted to spend more time with his wife, Lenora and his daughter, Lauren, so he stepped down. He's enjoying his time with his family, but he's still involved with the CDF and still very much interested in what the Krake are doing. And now, Lenora had a secret she needed to tell Connor.
The entire planet do expect the Krake to invade some day. While they hadn't seen Krake scout ships anywhere near New Earth, they figured it was only a matter of time. Some of the jump gates that had been place around different universes also witness the arrival of Krake fleets so they knew the Krake were very active. Even thought General Gates would like to stay home and not leave his wife and child, when an alien Ovarrow ally Warlord calls and request your presence, you almost have to go. Warlord Monin of the Gesora wasn't one to get alarmed over anything minor, so Connor knew something important must have come up and he needed to see it in person. So, once again, off he goes to another universe.
What he finds is definitely something very, very significant. As have some of the recent CDF scouting reports indicated, the Krake are becoming more active everywhere. Now that activity has reached a fever pitch with the Krake invading and devastating entire planet. The Ovarrow are not naturally aggressive and they don't do much to protect themselves from the Krake. They have in the past been slaves to the Krake, but managed to free themselves in some cases. Now the Krake seemed on destroying any Ovarrow settlements it could find. They were literally wiping out any and all civilizations on planets containing Ovarrow. That's what Warlord Monin wanted General Gates to see with his own eyes. They had recorded several instances where the Krake had arrived through their space gates and had started bombarding planets the WMDs. In addition to this, the Krake were establishing space gates on these planets and sending through hordes of massive wild animals. The creatures were monsters that eat anything alive when they came through the gates. They were tearing up entire planets. The Ovarrow had no where to go and they were dying by the millions. Why the Krake had suddenly started this barbaric terrorist tactic, no one knew for sure.
Still, General Gate now knew that he had to find the home planet of the Krake and he must do so immediately. How he's going to accomplish that is not certain although he does have contact with a 5th Element inside the Krake. This Krake informer has the information Gates needs, it just not sure how he's going to get that information from him. Then the informant contact General Gates while he's visiting with Warlord Monin. He's about ready to tell Gates the location of the Krake home-world when he's cut-off. And that's about when the Krake start showing up over the planet the Warlord Monin and General Gates are meeting. It looks like the planet is going to be completely destroyed and the first thing to go was the space gate the humans had used to get to the planet. How are they now going to get home and even if they do, will New Earth still be there? They know that New Earth was on the Krake's known planet list so they were pretty sure they were coming. While New Earth could defend itself, it just depending on how much the Krake sent to destroy the planet. Something or someone has to stop them.
This would appear to be the end of this series and it's ran a good course. We've come a long way from Earth and lived through the establishment and defense of New Earth once already. Now comes what might be the final defense. Will the New Earth survive or will they have to put all their hopes in the new colony that will be leaving for another planet three-light years away. Will, I will tell you there is going to be a 12th book, "Impulse", and it's already available on Amazon. I'm going to read it just to find out what could possibly be in this book after how this current one ended.
I feel like there are many storylines that aren't resolved or expanded upon. Like Aurang and Sadoon. Just about everything Aurang does is off page and isn't mentioned. What is he doing? Why is he playing both Sadoon and the CDF? Why did he need Sadoon to begin with? There's no explanation, and then he's killed and gives the CDF the coordinates to his home world. If he wanted to help his people, why would he give Conner the coordinates knowing they'd be annihilated? They've touched upon the purpose and motivation of the Krang, but only briefly and vaguely. Revenge and to find evidence of other Krang in other universes. Why the brainwashing? What purpose would the overseers have in (supposedly) conditioning Aurang to be a rebel? Also, what about Syloc? He was never really mentioned again. Was he allied with the Krake? Was that how his soldiers were genetically modified? Because no other Ovarrow faction seem to have that technology. Also, was it ever explained how they activated the underwater gateway on NE to begin with? It was my understanding when it happened that the Krake had dialed the gate and they were just unfortunate enough to be in the way, and it somehow connected with the space gate to send the Vigilance through as well. But now we know that gates are activated on the outgoing side and that you need to bring the gate with you. That gates on different universes aren't connected.

As a critic I am generally not kind and as a rule the highest rating I will give is 4 stars. I hold in reserve the 5th star for the truly exceptional. I began reading Science Fiction in the mid 1950's and have averaged a book every 1 - 2 days since. That is a lot of books my friends and the reason I am sparse with praise.
"INVASION" the latest sojourn, and the preceding ten novels, have earned the deserved 4 stars awarded. Being well written, entertaining and faithful to the expanding plot concepts, these novels are well worth the time spent reading. As a former two combat tour Army veteran I emphasize with the characters and their struggles on a more personal note.
This series has mostly been amazing, with a few bumps along the way. This book is one of the good ones and it was easy to read and hard to put down.
In this book we are introduced to new characters and enemies, and new environments. All of these new pieces feel organic and fit well into the existing world.
The story is well structured and little time is taken on tangents or dead end storylines.
The voice narration, once again is amazing. Scott Aiello delivers an excellent performance and is one of my favorite narrators, with his easy tone and wide variety of voices.
All in all, this is a great book. It's hard to know what to say about books this deep in the series, other than if you liked the previous books then this is a must have.
Great finishing touch to the Krake story. Many changes are happening in the colony. They continue the search for allies to fight the Krake but all going to hell. Lars Mallory is working his redemption doing mission with the CDF. Sean and Oriana convinced Noah and Kara to help them and Connor is visiting an allied when the Krake start genocide at Universal scale. Everyone has to coup with the different situations and made everything they could to work out a solution that help in the defense of the Colony and to defeat the Krake. Excellent, like the others. Two thumbs up Mr. Lozito
A major series arc is completed in a final (?) showdown with the Krake. The colony and all of non-Krake existence teeter on the edge of complete destruction. Beloved characters meet their demise making the ultimate sacrifice. Other favorite characters are separated from their significant others possibly never to be reunited. While I have given each book in the series three stars (I liked each and every one) the series rises to a Four (I love the series).
Yeah I know I stole it from StarTrek , I have read every book in this series and it just gets better. Story direction is spot on and the characters are great. Again this is one of those books that you have to read it slow , if not you will be done in no time at all. It will catch you and pull you along.
Man this writer is the best story teller of this generation. I literally can not put any of his books down once I start. This engrossing tale of the space colonists continued to enthrall with every page turned. Book 11 is even more fascinating. Someone please make a movie or TV series out of the First Colony Books.
I'm happy I found this series to enjoy during my surgical recovery. I've read a lot space fiction and this series by Ken Lozito is in my top 5. The flow of the story is good and kept me glued to the screen of my kindle for days. kudos to the author for such an enjoyable story. I look forward to how the story branches out to the other characters.
Maybe because so much happened in this book, it moved away from being a “setting up the next book” type of book. The story itself is not complex so questioned giving it a 5, but my feelings of enjoyment upon concluding it bumped it up from a 4. I look forward to the next book.
The war really kicks in here, not much of the sneaking around, "what if" stories, trying to make head or tail. War is here and it's here now. I still skipped through plenty of the text, I'm not one for the unnecessary drama and conversation.
The story reaches an epic showdown that we continue to see from the POV of General Connor Gates, Noah, Dash, Sean and all the other major players in the series. Each has a crucial role to play in protecting the colony and their determination to keep their homes, families & the entire colony safe.
The First Colony series is really interesting and this one does not disappoint. Connor and the CDF really go after the Krake on this one. The Krake are an odd enemy in the sense they are terrible but don't feel that way. Some of the characters are choosing new beginnings for themselves and this one is going to open more stuff for the CDF.
Lozito continues an excellent series that nicely ties together the characters. The storylines is really enjoyable and the characters very nicely developed. Let’s continue enjoying the series!
Outstanding, the Krake are finished and we can rebuild homes and cities and a new colony. Might be a new adventure Ken you could guide us on in the next book? We give thanks to our honored dead and move on to face the future. Thanks for a GoodRead.
This was a great series of reads. Kept my interest, added unanticipated events and story lines as well as preserved the continuity of all 11 books. Always looking for a thoughtful and provoking series. Thanks!
What an ending to a great series. Ken outdid himself in the finally. All my characters that I have come to know and enjoy made the ending the best. I loved this book, what a great read.
Have finished all the books in the series and it’s been a fun ride. SciFi is an escape and Lozito’s writing keeps a good balance between the human side of the story and the science.
It was well written with character development present. The story line was complex enough and engaged plot twists that promoted intrigue in what was coming up next.
Invasion represents a severe ramp up in the stakes as the battle escalates. If I have one criticism it is with the speed of resolution, almost as though Lozito got bored. However, there's no denying the action is fun and engaging.
Greatly enjoyed the entire series! Varied characters, an incredibly well-built world... um, universe... Um, universes. Tactical and logistics info were clear to follow and the emotional core was solid all around. Loved all of them.
These books are always so fun! I listen to them on my way to work. I love the characters and the story. Ken does such a good job of keeping it creative and interesting. I can’t wait for the next one. If you love sci fi, this is the series for you!
