Poison

Rate this book
Mild-mannered Kurt discovers a secret side of himself when Luc, a persuasive stranger, follows him off the subway. What begins as a casual affair evolves into an erotic dilemma as Luc teaches Kurt to find the pleasurable side of pain. Torn between his addiction to Luc's unique punishments and a strong desire for freedom, Kurt attempts to end their trysts before he surrenders to the chill of passion.

Part contemporary anti-romance, part surrealistic tale of sexual awakening, "Poison" was first published in 2009. This short story is not a factual portrayal of the BDSM lifestyle, nor is it tailored for readers craving a love story between the two main characters. It is merely a dark incantation of the author's twisted mind.

Warning: "Poison" contains borderline dub-con, explicit M/M sexual situations, and depictions of abuse. Reader discretion is advised.

Tired from a long work week and sexually frustrated, Kurt boards a subway home and takes one of two available seats next to a gorgeous businessman with cold eyes and cruel lips. I love subway scenes - widely disparate groups of people crammed together like sardines, dwelling on their thoughts, their fears, their fantasies. Kurt is a busy college student. He doesn't have time for a meaningful relationship and contents himself with occasional one-night stands. He gives the man his phone number.

Kurt can't get enough of Luc and wants more. Luc is controlling and has no mercy. Kurt wants to escape and finds he can't. I liked this short, dark and erotic tale about sexual obsession. Had this story been longer, I could easily imagine it taking a darker and horrific turn.

It's a shame that poor editing marred this story. I also didn't like switching between using the men's names and their job titles. One or the other would have worked fine.

Steer clear if it's a romance you're looking for.

Poison is not for the faint of heart. It is a difficult, almost cruel tale of a D/s relationship between two men: love is not involved. Locked in an almost adversarial relationship, Kurt craves Luc at the same time he wants to escape from him, but Luc knows what Kurt wants and controls him through manipulation of his sexual needs.

This book shows imaginative promise on the part of the author. One could wish for better editing, as awkward pronoun usage sometimes drops the reader out of the story. Still, this creepy, explicitly erotic tale is worth reading.

This short could of been one of those dark gritty books that I love, but it just didn't deliver for me. The promise was there, but never really turned up. It had a crude style, which suited this read perfectly, but I was left feeling that although this could of been a great little story, nothing reached the potential that was so obviously there.

Just plain hot. Kurt becomes slave not to Luc as he believes but to his own need. Luc is just the vessel that delivers and fulfills that need. I would have liked to see a longer version of this story until Kurt matches the painting.

Warning: this is not your momma's fluffy glitterkink. This is skirting the edge of dub-con S&M. There is no Happily Ever After. Both of the characters--Kurt and Luc--are a few floors short of a skyscraper. In fact, one might wonder just why these two men are even together sexually. And yet they are and each time the intensity gets ratcheted up even higher. They seem addicted to each other.

For a short story, Poison packs on hell of a wallop. I want to know more about Kurt and Luc and yet their brief interactions clued me in as to their fierce atraction. Kurt is that wonderfully mouthy submissive who needs to fight. Luc is the dominant who knows how to give it to him. And yes, it's just sex--sweaty, dirty, no-holds barred sex. And sometimes, that just hits the spot.

Sometimes it's so hot you forget the torment Kurt is enduring. Kurt's emotions are so easy to read and gather together, whereas Luc's make you wonder the entire story. The obvious and the mysterious are so well written and blended together it sometimes makes you forget you're reading.

Can only give this two stars...I just didn't get it....There was no real story to Luc and Kurt....Everything was what had happened not what was happening and it could have been such a promising read...Luc ok was an asshole.....He really does not know what true BDSM is......but because there was no real sex scenes i couldn't really tell if he really did know what he was doing...He was just evil....Kurt.....well Kurt was just plain stupid and could never make up his mind...One minute he wanted luc then he didn't.....No didn't take to this..I will read the second one just to see If Kurt can somehow get the upper hand over Luc x

I picked up this short book and was warned of it's graphic content and the nature of the book from a sexual standpoint. Being opened minded I wanted to give it a chance. What I loved about the book was the writing. Jane Bled can write. She goes a great job creating tension between her characters and Kurt is overwhelmed by the mysterious individual he meets on a subway car. He's faced like all of us with doing things he probably shouldn't be doing, but the urge is so strong that it makes it nearly impossible to resist. I always look for believable characters when reading a book. Kurt and his love, or should I say lust interest are quite believable. The realism is there all the way and I'm sure the next book features the same quality writing.

If you're not comfortable with BDSM, and graphic erotica, this is probably not the book for you. I probably wont continue with the series because this isn't quite my taste. I'd recommend it for anyone who enjoys graphic erotica and BDSM; and is comfortable with their own sexuality. Poison is a quick read and can be read in 30 minutes to an hour, which is another plus of the book, as it doesn't drag on with a lot of useless description that has no purpose for the. The story is well thought out and the poems before each section kind of give you something to think about before you read on.

I enjoyed this short story, felt bad for Kurt, he really wanted more from Luc, but he told him from the beginning he doesn't do relationships.

"TELL YOU WHAT- I'M POSSESSED

I SWEAR I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS OBSESSED,

'CAUSE MAKING LOVE TO YOU FEELS SO WRONG,

BUT I CAN'T STOP-

I'M NOT THAT STRONG."

You get thisD/s relationship that Kurt doesn't even realize he wants until Luc opens up his world to it.

Sometimes, less is more. It's not in the length of the story (short), but in the meaningful dialogue, character portrayals, and unfolding events that crescendo into an erotic and cruel climax. I'm impressed with Jane Bled's ability to say so much with so few words.

It's a subtle, complex, and worthy read. I enjoyed getting lost in the darkness.

So in a m/m romance read I do not need to read about how desperate for sex Kurt is and how he doesn't want sex with a women whose 'snatch' apparently gets juicy for him. I think Luc is what Kurt deserves for that too. Pretty much 50 Shades of Grey without Christian being a decent human being to Ana/ his submissives.

This was an awesome read. I picked it up and couldn't but it back down until I was done. Kurt and Luc was well thought out characters and the author Jane Bled has a way with word. You're lured into the world that is created and take the wild ride with Kurt and Luc. A must read for anyone looking to get lost for a few hours. I highly recommend this story.

So the title had me pondering over this short as I finished it. The domination scenes felt a bit like poison and I wondered if there was a moral to the story that I was missing. Whatever the answer, it really was too short to be sure what the author was going for.

I'm torn with this short story. I though I knew what I was getting into after reading the blurb. The writing and the story is good but I was still bothered by the non-con relationship. I am tempted by the 2nd book though, so we'll see if I move on.

The book cover is gorgeous.

This wasn't the book for me. I loved the concept, but it just felt like a tease. The scenes were too short and ended before any type of resolution or conclusion.

A short story that delivers what the author promises but not much more

"Poison" is a short story about a gay BDSM encounter between two men, Kurt & Luc. If you read the author's blurb on Amazon, you'll be discouraged: "[the book] is not a factual portrayal of the BDSM lifestyle".

I disagree. The story is an account typical of one-night stands of anonymous BDSM sex common in gay leather bars. Although Ms. Jayne has writing talent, she only hints of the interior thoughts and emotions of one of the main characters (Kyle) - with his apprehension of continuing with Luc. Luc is just a dom to Kurt. Kurt hopes for more after successive encounters with Luc, but Luc does only one thing with Kurt: BDSM sex.

The author promises an "erotic power-play as Luc teaches Kurt to find the pleasurable side of pain". Kurt has nagging doubts about the pain but still succumbs to the sex. The author has the perceptive talent to go deeper into the motivations of the BDSM relationship but doesn't deliver.

The story, as described by the author, is "merely a dark incantation of the author's twisted mind". As such, it is an intellectual exercise that could have been much more.

This was a short quick read that was good and if it was longer I would have given it a better rating. Kurt discovers a secret side of himself when Luc, a sexy stranger, follows him off the subway. What begins as a casual affair evolves into an erotic power-play as Luc teaches Kurt to find the pleasurable side of pain. Torn between his addiction to Luc's unique punishments and a strong desire for freedom, Kurt attempts to end their trysts before he surrenders to the chill of passion. I like reading BDSM and dark erotica and this book had it I just wish that it would have been longer. I'd recommend it for anyone who enjoys graphic erotica and BDSM and are looking for a short quick read.

Abusive relationship, not a good representation of BDSM. This is an okay one for me. Felt badly for Kurt. All he wants is a little love and kinky fun. But no, he get stuck with poisonous Luc.
