Emotionally gripping and expertly plotted, this heart-pounding, compulsive read is the perfect domestic thriller for fans of The Wife Between Us, The Husband's Secret and The Couple Next Door.

“Our Wicked Lies” by Glede Browne Kabongo is a gripping and suspenseful domestic thriller. Fans of Gillian Flynn, Ruth Ware and B.A Paris will find a kindred spirit in Kabongo!
Alicia Gray has the perfect family; her lawyer husband, Elliot, is devoted to her and their two teenage daughters. After a twentieth anniversary trip to Paris, Alicia feels that her relationship with Elliot couldn’t be any better, but as she soon finds out, having everything you ever wanted comes with a steep price. When Alicia discovers that her husband has been having a long-standing affair with a woman named Faith, her entire life is turned upside down. Just as shocking is when Alicia discovers the true identity of Faith, sending everything she knew into chaos, and when a tragic death occurs in their elite neighbourhood, more secrets are revealed that has everyone, Alicia included, questioning what they thought they knew.
The story is well-written and the characters are well-developed¬. I rooted for Alicia from page one (and cursed Elliot throughout the entire novel). Right from the beginning I felt an immediate connection to the characters, and I wanted to see justice served.
The novel is told mostly from Alicia’s perspective, although we do get a bit of Elliot and Faith’s story throughout. The short chapters kept me engaged, and I found myself breezing through this page-turning novel!
Each and every character was seemingly just as guilty as any other, which made guessing the ending all the more enjoyable! The ending itself was unexpected, although it definitely wasn’t uncommon in novels of this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed how Browne Kabongo kept the tension throughout the entire plot, not letting up until the very last page.
Browne Kabongo is a new author for me, but she has many novels (and awards) under her belt. After reading “Our Wicked Lies”, I can absolutely see why! This genre is one of my favourites, and to see it done so well and in such an engaging and entertaining way, Browne Kabongo will definitely be on my radar from now on!
Thanks Amazon for letting me read this for FREE. New author for me, certainly have checked out the rest of her books. Takes place in Weston, MA, outside of Boston. This title was certainly descriptive of the plot. How many lies can 1 family have and for how long before the dominoes start tumbling down!
Based on the description for this book, I was really looking forward to reading it. However, I felt the story just didn't measure up to the hype of the description. It's an example that some marriages and relationships aren't as perfect as they appear to be. This is a story about lies, betrayal, how the choices made today can change your life tomorrow and more. The characters were well developed although not very likable. Even the leading lady, Alicia, was another tired example of a weak female who lives her whole life for her cheating husband and family. I prefer stronger female characters but not like the sleazy Kat. There were some twists to the story, but not anything that floored me. This was a decent story without the wow factor for me.
This was one “wicked” read! I wish I had found Glede Browne Kabongo sooner! I loved the mental roller coaster this book took me on as I read and could not put this down! I was instantly sucked into this perfect idyllic life of wealth and the lushness that comes with it. Everyone wonders how it must be to never worry right? Well nothing is ever as it seems and this book really examines that exact point perfectly. It takes one family and spins their lives completely three-sixty. I was constantly second guessing my conclusions and was still wrong throughout, which really is the best when it comes to reading a thriller novel. This was one of those books I couldn’t wait to finish because I had to know how it ended, but I was also devastated because I wanted to keep reading. Like a ride that you didn't want to get off of. I will definitely be checking out Glede Browne Kabongo’s other works as soon as possible and will probably be re-reading this one soon! I am sure I missed some goodies along the way with all the twists and turns!
Our Wicked Lies by Gledè Browne Kabongo a suspenseful story that had me flipping the pages to discover how it all played out. I would class it as a bit of a psychological thriller- there’s also plenty of emotion, secrets, mystery, deception, intrigue, lies, betrayal, discovery, and tension. Although the story was a little slow in the beginning, it didn’t take too long before it had me devouring the pages and following along intently as everything unfolded.
Alicia Gray has the life everyone wants, a marriage to a handsome and successful man, two beautiful daughters who are headstrong and know what they want out of life and a beautiful home in a quiet and wealthy area of town, but things are not all as they seem when she sees her best friend getting a little too friendly with her husband at a party. When she confronts him about it the next day, he is not comfortable and tries to portray it as less than it was, he tells Alicia that it was all on her friend and he felt uncomfortable and was hoping that nobody had seen, while being embarrassed that she had, not really an sight of an apology though, but Alicia gives him the benefit of the doubt and tries to get in contact with her friend to hear her side of the story. This is not to be when her friend does not get back in touch with her, but she cannot get it out of her head despite trying to take her mind off of it, her suspicions are raised again at dinner the next day when unusually her husband is home for it, normally he works late, however, when he gets a phone call and looks nervous about answering it in front of her, she is not sure what to make of it all. When she confronts him about it, he is evasive and says it was to do with work, but she isn’t buying this time at all, however, she lets the subject go for now.
Alicia is taking some time to think about her future none that her girls are both heading off to uni this year and the next, she thinks it is time to start looking at getting the degree she gave up on earlier on in life and getting herself a job to keep her skills up, on top of her volunteering at a Gynaecology Centre for a charity near to where she lives. She adores her work there and ideally would like something there, however, she asks her boss to keep an eye open for anything that might suit her, she uses it as a way to practice before she talks to her husband about it all. She is getting worried though when her friend still isn’t answering her messages, but doesn’t know whether to go and see her in person or not and it is driving her to look for other evidence of what her husband may be hiding from her, so she decides to check his computer, although what she finds on there just makes her even more incentivised to find out what is happening when she finds emails which are addressed to another woman, but never sent. As this mystery unfolds, another shock comes when someone close to her is killed, but is it related to the emails and the mystery phone calls, or is there something else more sinister at play? This is a suspense which will keep you hooked as secrets are revealed, pasts are exposed and current events show that there is more to the surrounding area than meets the eye.
Alicia Gray has her life set. A successful lawyer husband, the first African-American man in his very prestigious firm to make partner, who adores her, two lovely teenage daughters, the oldest about to leave for college, and a massive, luxurious house in an expensive part of town. Yet she can’t help feeling that something is amiss.
When her husband panics visibly on receiving a call at the dinner table, and a neighbour makes a cryptic remark, she is driven to find out what he may be hiding from her.
She finds email correspondence between her husband and a woman called Faith. It is the beginning of the unraveling of her marriage.
Her husband has secrets, and so does she.
The story is written from the third person limited pov of Alicia and Eliot. The narrative is interspersed with diary entries around the 72 percent mark. By the 75 percent mark, there are still twists hitting us.
It wasn’t long before I began to like Alicia, her simplicity and generosity of spirit shone through.
It was also refreshingly new to see American parents adivising their children about no sex before marriage, where most others might talk about protection.
The style was good, even though it leaned more towards women’s fiction than domestic thriller. I enjoyed the descriptions, especially those relating to Paris.
A few similes were forced, as “Fear swooped down like a murder of crows.” Also the usage of the tense is annoying and awkward. There were sentences with mixed tenses.
Alicia was caught up in her own…confusion since she’d stood in Kat’s driveway and saw...
The word, saw, should have been replaced with seen.
The questions, What’s on your mind?, is asked by Dr Jack Witherspoon, Alicia and Eliot. This question isn’t as common as What’s up? Or What’s happening? So the repetition stands out.
The Spanish address, mija is a shortened form of mi hija (my daughter), but here it’s mentioned as maja.
The phrase, to go postal, was a new one for me.
The flashbacks felt awkward.
I would have thought the plural of De Luca should be De Lucas. Here the author kept referring to the family as De Lucases, which wasn’t the right word.
Until the 50 percent mark, we only contend with Eliot’s infidelity. After this point, the twists begin coming at us, one after another. The second half of the book packs a punch, with issues such as depression, infidelity and dysfunctional marriage.
Queen of Whodunnit, Glede Browne-Kabongo, has done it again, in this House of Cards-type psychological thriller. In Our Wicked Lies, Ms. Kabongo gives the reader a peek into the home and life of the Grays’, a seemingly happy and well-kept-together family, who resides in an affluent suburb in Massachusetts, only to discover that things aren’t always what they seem—but are, in fact, much worse than they seem.
Dutiful, loving, stay-at-home wife and mother, Alicia Gray is devastated when she stumbles upon a shocking secret involving her powerful attorney husband, Eliot, a man who is as narcissistic and entitled as they come. Determined to unravel the threads of his dark secrets, Alicia embarks on her own investigative journey with the help of her best friend. But when the stark truth steps out of the shadow, naked, diabolical, and more sinister than she could have ever imagined, Alicia has to make some difficult and life-changing decisions to protect herself and her teenage daughters from the traumatic events and horrendous actions that ensues from her discovery.
Like all of Ms. Kabongo’s book, Our Wicked Lies is fast-paced, and a definite page-turner that grips readers right out the gate and keeps them hanging on the edge of suspense until the mystery is solved. In addition, I love that OWL subtly addresses the quandary of so many women who give up dreams, ambitions, and careers to stand behind men and make certain that their husbands live their dreams, while theirs die slowly, piece-by-piece, every single day.
Kudos to Ms. Kabongo for marrying this powerful, dynamic message with the thrill of reading another blockbuster and captivating ‘Who-Done-It.’ Pick up your copy now! You will not be disappointed!!!
Alicia and Eliot have the perfect life people are envious of - 2 beautiful teen daughters, an expansive home, wealth, love, and affection for each other. Alicia thought she was the luckiest woman in the world until she witnesses something happen between Eliot and her best friend Kat. Along with hidden email draft messages between Eliot and someone named Faith, how well does Alicia really know her husband?
Eliot was quick to deny or defend his actions when Alicia confronted him. Because Alicia did not come from a wealthy background, she feared living that life again and despite her gut feeling about Eliot she continued to be the perfect wife and mother. Determined to investigate on her own what Eliot is hiding, it was just a matter of time before her frustrations and doubts surface. When an unexpected death happens, lies and secrets are exposed and everyone is scrambling trying to cover their tracks. Was it an accidental death or murder?
This is the first book I've read from this author and I enjoyed it. Told from multiple POV's, it kept me intrigued as I tried to figure out what was going through Alicia's mind. When you think questions have been answered another twist comes along, throwing the reader for a loop. Overall a great book that I had a hard time putting down.
Thank you Netgalley and BrowneStar Media/Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op for the opportunity to read this book.

Alicia soon discovers that her town is not what it seems, all while struggling to keep her own secrets buried deep.
My review:
Initially, I wasn’t sure what to think about this book. It started off quite slow, and I thought maybe I wouldn’t enjoy it. However, I stuck with it, and after about half a dozen chapters, it picked up, and I could not put it down. It has mystery, murder, intrigue, deception, and was SO THRILLING. I read half of it on my lunch break and was actually late going back to work because I got so lost in it. I would highly recommend it. Thank you to netgalley and Glede Browne Kabongo for the opportunity to review this ARC. This review and all opinions are my own.
Our Wicked Lies by Gledé Browne Kabongo 5 of 5 Stars I was gripped by this domestic crime thriller by Gledé Browne Kabongo and could not put this book down. The setting is a beautiful town in one of the country's wealthiest zip codes full of wealth and privilege, but you soon discover that nothing is as it seems and all the characters are hiding something. The main character is Alicia Gray who is married to Eliot a successful man who takes her on romantic trips away. The couple have two daughters and live in a beautiful house, basically Alicia has an enviable marriage and life. However having witnessed a suspicious moment between her husband and her best friend Kat, Alicia then finds dozens of unsent emails from Eliot to a Faith. The deeper Alicia digs to find out her identity the more lies and secret she uncovers and then a shocking death which could have been either a tragic accident or cold blooded murder complicates things further for Alicia. The storyline flows well and the descriptive narrative brings both the setting and the characters to life which made me feel immersed in the story. The characters were all very realistic and Alicia was a very likeable main character who I felt engaged with. The dramatic plot twists kept me hooked and guessing until the very shocking ending, which left me thinking about this book long after I had finished reading it.
Alicia Gray is upset after seeing her best friend, Kat, grab her husband, Eliott’s, crotch at a get-together. Alicia is a stay at home mom to their two daughters, Marston, 17, and Lily, 16. Eliott is a partner at an elite law firm and they live in a large home in a wealthy neighborhood. When confronted, Eliott assures Alicia that he was not seeking attention from Kat and feels she had probably been drinking too much. When Alicia confronts Kay, she apologizes and tells her that she had had too much to drink and is embarrassed by her actions.
Alicia works voluntarily at a OBGYN clinic that offers care to women who can’t afford their own doctor. She is thinking of getting a full time job now and even doing some college education online. Eliott doesn’t seem to feel that she needs to do that as he makes plenty of money.
When Alicia inadvertently finds emails to and from someone named Faith on Eliott’s computer, she knows he’s having an affair. Thus, begins Alicia hunt to find out who Faith is and why Eliott is having an affair.
Well, Eliott is is a cocky jerk always calling Alicia “Baby” when she questions him. That irked me. Why would Alicia want to continue to stay with someone who she knows is having an affair and is condescending to her? I wanted to kick both of them! He’s a creep and she’s the whiny little wife who can’t realize that he isn’t going to change. There was a lot of repetition in the book rehashing the same old things. Sorry. Not a favorite.

When you think you have the world and one day it all comes crashing down, can you survive?
Alicia is living the dream, beautiful house in the right neighbour, great daughters and a loving husband who dotes on her and whisks her away for exotic holidays. One day her world exploded when she found unsent emails on her husbands computer but who is this mystery woman and what is the relationship between the two of them.
But before she can find the answers the whole situation blows up and Alicia is trying to piece together the mystery and will she be able to get to the bottom and save herself.
I loved this story the twists and turns within the story makes it a compelling read, the characters are well developed and enhance the story and drives the main story through until the very end. The story follows multiple point of views and this just adds to the mystery. It was great how Alicia and her friend unravels the mysteries and this grows until the last word.
This is the first book I have read by this author and would love to read more in the future.
Our Wicked Lies by Gledé Browne Kabongo. I LOVED this book. It's one of the best books I've read this year. Its the story of Alicia Gray who knows she is living the storybook life with her Attorney husband and living in her affluent neighborhood. Eliot is a arrogant, stuck up, entitled man who thinks everyone should bow down to him. Alicia feels like there has to be more to him than what's on the surface so when she starts snooping she finds a weird folder on his computer with hidden messages to a woman named Faith she is determined to get to the bottom of it. What Alicia finds is way more dark and demented than she ever believed. When someone is killed the mystery gets even deeper. Could this man that seems like the dream man that takes her on romantic trips and buys her all the gifts she wants be capable of these dark things? This book makes you realize that even people you think you know the best you sometimes don't know at all. Read Our Wicked Lies to find out if Alicia survives the mystery.
Our Wicked Lies is the first book I have read by Glede Browne Kabongo and it will not be my last. My genre of choice is always a good psychological or domestic thriller and I was really intrigued by the synopsis of Our Wicked Lies. It is honestly hard for me to verbalize how I feel about this novel. I feel as though it was slow to start and took a while to really pick up but simultaneously I didn't want to put it down either. The writing was really strong, and even though I had a hard time connecting with some of the characters (especially Alicia) they were really realistic and to many, probably really relatable. Throughout the beginning half of the book I found myself wondering if I had missed something a time or two, but honestly it helped build up the suspense. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and this author's style of writing and she evoked emotion when I was reading whether it be empathy or even frustration. I would give the book 4 stars and as mentioned before, definitely will keep an eye out and read more from this author.
I enjoyed this thriller. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her yet. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the beginning by the characters. They made the story feel realistic and gave life to the story. This is an engaging, fast paced story that I had a hard time putting down. This is a well written story that the author’s attention to details made the twists and turns exciting and the feeling of wanting to know what will happen next. Alicia thinks she has the perfect marriage until she finds some emails between her husband and another woman that he never sent. Who is she and why did he never send them? Someone knows the truth but sometimes things come at a cost. This had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a great thriller that I would highly recommend.
This was a decent read. I don’t know much about this author, but I feel like this might be an early novel for her, a lot of potential, but still a little clunky in the writing style. The stunning twist felt overstated, it wasn’t so stunning or shocking by the end, but there was enough to keep it interesting. I do read a lot of this genre though, and to be honest I suspected the twist early on. Maybe for someone who reads less of this it would be more surprising. I will say I didn’t really like Eliot and I felt like there was a bad side to him all along. A few things were a bit weird in the book like Eliot calling a particular person Faith. I don’t want to go into spoiler territory here. Mostly I enjoyed reading it. I liked Alicia and her girls and it was good to read about an African American family for a change.
Alicia and Eliot Gray have been married for twenty years, twenty years of marital bliss. At least that is what Alicia thinks. Eliot is a successful partner at a law firm in Boston. Alicia is the mother of his two beautiful children and a homemaker. Alicia volunteers at a women’s clinic in Boston three days a week. Her best friend, Katalina Torres Deluca, lives on her street but owns a successful marketing firm in Boston. They’ve been best friends for two years.
Everything seems perfect for Alicia and Eliot until the hidden lies start to unfold. Piece by shocking piece the story of the last fifteen years is unfolded wickedly by Gledé Brown Kabongo, and you won’t believe the truth when it is revealed.
This was my first book by this author but it most certainly won’t be my last! I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and ended up reading it in one sitting as I couldn’t bring myself to put it down, I just had to get answers to all of my questions.
This author managed to pull me in right from the start, I was fully intrigued and remained that way until the very end. This story was incredibly captivating, detailed, intense, unexpected and really entertaining. I loved everything about this story and I cannot wait to read more by this phenomenal author.
If you are looking for a great thrilling read look no further this is the book for you!
Our Wicked Lies spins a tale of love, friendship, and ultimate betrayal. Alicia thinks she has a perfect life with her husband and two teenage daughters. But her dreams are shattered when she discovers disturbing emails between her husband and a stranger named Faith. Full of twists, turns, and a good story line, the story is well developed and the characters are relatable. However, there are some parts where the story skips ahead and it took a bit to figure out the timeline and what was going on. The point of view switches quite often and made parts of the story difficult to follow. A good story that shows even the most perfect relationship can be based on lies, Our Wicked Lies was a good read.
I really have no coherent words for this book to accurately describe this book. I am at a loss for words as I have never had a book, where I had it all figured out, throw me a 1,2 punch like that. As this is my first book by this author, I really didnt know what to expect but i was hooked from the first page and my gosh. While this had one of my big story turn offs, being a thriller type book, I let it go as I wanted to see where it went and how things played out and I am so so glad I did. Alicia has it all, great husband who is also pretty nice to look ar according to character descriptions, 2 great daughters and a best friend. But everyone has secrets and some, well some result in this story!
I read this in one day!! I have a headache from staring at my Kindle screen all day. Each character has a secret. This book has so many twists and turns, u would figure out one secret and another one came out. This is a book where you will get comfortable and not put down the book. The book description made me purchase the book before I finished reading the book description. Our Wicked Lies is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Which is rare for me to put in my reviews because I read frequently. This book is worth the purchase, you won't be disappointed. Writing this review is difficult for me to write because it's so much I want to write but I don't want to give the book away.
Is there such a thing as the perfect family? In their wealthy suburban neighborhood, it certainly appears that Alicia and Eliot Gray and their daughters fit the description. However, undercurrents of deceit are about to bubble to the surface and set forth a tsunami of revelations. The novel grabs you from the beginning and Alicia’s happy, loving and safe world begins to slowly disintegrate as she learns the extent of the lie she has been living. The plot has more twists and turns than the famous San Francisco Street and before the final page, there is another complete shocker. This is my first book by this excellent author, but it certainly won’t be my last.
3 stars Our Wicked Lies by Gledé Browne Kabongo This book starts off super strong but quickly falls into a cliched mess. I just do not understand why a wife is so desperate to stay with her cheating husband. It makes no sense to me and makes me annoyed with the woman. I did like Marston, Jack and Lily. The rest of the characters are your typical gossipy neighbor, busy mom conflicted about her work/family balance. The author is exceedingly talented and writes a good but long-winded book. I know many will like this book, for me it is forgettable. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.
Alicia Gray is living the perfect life- or is she? She has two children , a handsome husband, a beautiful home, but what else is going on behind all of that perfection? Alicia is a stay at home mom, who finds out her husband is not who she thought. he was. The reader goes into the lives of three couples and the relationships between all of them. The author takes us on many twists and turns, and I was constantly guessing throughout the story. This is a quick read, can't put down and I will be adding this author to my list! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this advanced copy.
Our Wicked Lies: A gripping psychological thriller by Glede Browne Kabongo this book is full of suspense and has a few twists and turns thrown in. I thought the story was well thought out and written in a way that kept your interest right from page one. I did at times find the characters just a little hard to relate to. I really wanted Alicia to have a little bit more backbone about her although for the most part she was likeable. Her husband I found very hard to connect with. Instead I found there was an instant dislike for him, which could well be exactly what the author intended. This is an overall enjoyable book and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
Our Wicked Lies is an action-packed and suspenseful novel that takes us through one woman's journey to discover the truth about her husband's secrets. Alicia, a mother of two and wife to Eliot, begins to suspect that her dearest husband is cheating, and as the plot unfolds, we discover with her that there is much more to Eliot than meets the eye. The suspense is layered well, keeping the reader engaged throughout the twists and turns of the story. Alicia is a very likeable heroine; she is caring and compassionate, a good friend, and an intelligent woman. Overall, I found this story very engaging and with a few more surprises than I expected. Give it a shot!
Our Wicked Lies is a suspenseful psychological thriller with lots of mystery, drama and edge. This was my first time reading the work of Glede Browne Kabongo, and I was pleasantly surprised. This story was engaging and pulled me in straight away. Full of danger, betrayal, lies and deceit, it was suspense on a knife's edge. The story flowed and was very energetic. There was so many secrets, I was so addicted to finding out exactly how it all came together. This thriller was exceptionally well written and well thought out. It was evident that this was high quality literature. With meticulous detail, Our Wicked Lies is a captivating story that deserves all the accolades. 4 stars.
