Rate this book
On Halloween night, 1988, a seventeen-year-old finds that the monster haunting her dreams is all too real. Tuesday Caulfield is like most of the kids in her school. She enjoys hanging with her friends, listening to music, and hitting the occasional party. But Tuesday has a secret: every time she falls asleep, she’s transported to a strange house where something is very, very wrong. With Halloween approaching, Tuesday’s nightly visitations grow more frightening. Someone is in the house with her, and the scythe-wielding maniac has Tuesday firmly in his sights. Drawing her friends into the nightmare, Tuesday steels for a bloody confrontation worse than anything she could have imagined.

This was a wild ride that gave major Freddy/Nightmare on Elm Street vibes, and is very much plot driven, but with likeable characters.

This novella is great for fans of A Nightmare on Elm Street and NOS4A. It’s the week of Halloween 1980something and teenage girl named Tuesday finds herself having the same dream of being in a boarded up house in the woods. She soon realizes this isn’t just a dream and she is not alone in the house. She also discovers she is not the first girl to be brought to this house by this creepy man with a scythe.
I am usually not a fan of novellas but I found this book to be the perfect length. The story felt complete and fleshed out. The killer was definitely inspired by Freddy Krueger but was still different enough to enjoy. My only complaint about this story is that the character of Jack was called two other names in the middle. This oversight in editing was very distracting.

i think this could be really good, like the plot is very solid, but i didn’t really care much about the characters and the writing felt so rushed. if this ever got developed into a full novel i’d be so on board

I have been playing the Final Girl board game, so I was looking for a book that gave me A Nightmare on Elm Street vibes. Dream Evil is that book. It gave me exactly what I was looking for.

This will be the perfect book for a plot-driven reader. I am more character-driven, so I wish I had a little more time to feel something for the characters. For those just looking for a quick-paced slasher that does not hold back on the scares and the gore though, Dream Evil is sure to satisfy.
