4.5 stars. When this released, I decided I was going to save it for when I needed something happy and sweet. Of course, I always need that, but ultimately I just couldn't stay away from Jem & Tean, because I love them. 😍😍
And boy, did this collection of shorts deliver! ✨✨ I loved all of them but the birthday and camping trip episodes alternately made me laugh my ass off and swoon. Loved it all so much! ❤

after many half-hearted attempts to hoard GA reads for the upcoming winter, it looks like book starvation is in my future because this was the final one on my list. feeling nothing but bereft as i walk across the stage to accept my completion placard 😔
i spent my entire morning resorting to the tried-and-true method of online retail therapy in an effort to cope with this reality. the result: my heart is lighter (albeit by no more than a smidge), but my wallet even more so. at least i can look decently fashionable (by Tean’s standards, of course. i ain’t no fashionista. color coordination, who is she?) as i let my weary soul rest and recover.
perhaps i’ll dive into his older work. perhaps i’ll start the GA circle of life from the top with a grand reread adventure. perhaps i’ll bide my time, twiddling my thumbs until the next Flint & Tinder book drops. CHOICES, CHOICES, CHOICES.
but no matter what lies in my future, there will be no regrets. thank you so much, Mr. Gregory Ashe, sir. thank you for not only creating these stupendously fascinating book universes and cast of characters, but for being willing to release your numerous precious babies into the world. your tireless hard work and dedication to the craft is unparalleled and blows me away every time. may your kind and creative soul prosper till the end of time!

the thing with GA’s books is he makes LOTS of references, and for someone who didn’t grow up consuming traditional Western media or was too occupied catching ‘em all to give the classics the time of day, every single Buffy reference went over my head.
(basically, i’m the most uncultured american to have america’d in america 🤡)
i would argue, though, that my lack of knowledge about the show makes me an even more qualified Tean so….✨silver linings✨
i’m all worded out so i’ll leave y’all with this: Scipio is best doggo even if he has the power to inflict tail-eye on those who get in his way 🤣

4 stars for all the novellas, but 4,5 stars for the last one!
What a treat to have all shorts for The Lamb and the Lion” series in one book! (link to book 1 The Same Breath)
And here’s a quick overview:
First Dates
This novella is a first glimpse at the two MCs in the series before they meet, so before “The Same Breath”.
For both men the situation is the same: a friend has set up a first date.
And while both dates go spectacularly ‘wrong’, we get the quintessential information who each man is:
Tean: nerdy, full of statistic hailing doom and gloom (this must be one of the funniest characters traits I’ve read), absolutely mortified of dating or meeting a guy in public, a competent vet and a very kind, genuine man.
Jem: the conman, always up to a scam,(but notably not taking advantage of the people on his first date!), sleeping around, squatting in a derelict house and surviving on the minimum. For him that way of life is all he knows, and although he won’t admit it, he’s looking for something ‘more’.
The advice both men get at the end:
“You need to find a nice guy.”
Loved it!
Cheap Seats
This story takes place before “The Same Place”.
Jem and Tean are going to the cinema to see a blockbuster – only – it’s all sold out.
This one shows how good Jem is at getting what he wants – when it comes to dealing and wheeling. As for the rest of his life … not so much.
The guys are cute and just quintessentially them.
Jem teasing about Tean being his boyfriend is funny and sweet at the same time and it’s certainly way more than hopeful thinking on Jem’s part!
Supertrope: The Birthday Episode
This story takes place before “The Same End”.
So many little things showing how comfortable Jem and Tean are with each other, how each man totally gets the other.
Cute moments like this, giving away real feelings, are so heart-warming!
(Jem and Tean are watching Buffy on the sofa)

With a sigh Tean carded his fingers through the dark blond hair. … For some reason Tean couldn’t explain, he took an indecent amount of pleasure sifting the silky hair between his fingers and letting it fall back in place.
Tean is so clueless it’s painful and endearing at the same time. But then the way he is determined for Jem to have his first birthday party will make your heart go all gooey!

THIS, this is EXACTLY what I needed after book 3 which left so much open.
It’s not that it answers all the questions I had after book 3, BUT this is the PERFECT epilogue, showing Tean and Jem together.
Jem’s so thoughtful and tender with Tean, it’s just swoon-worthy. And Tean is Tean, and you virtually feel how much he loves Jem.
And for my other questions: it seems Gregory Ashe is going to give us more of these two guys with a new story-arc. Best news I’ve had in weeks!
I would recommend all the shorts in this series because they add beautifully to the whole picture, but the last one is a must read. 😉

I read these stories as I read the series, in chronological order of course, and loved each one but particularly the last one.
FIRST DATES
Jem + Tean going on predictably disastrous first dates. Sets us up for who they are, what the world is like for them, and why they just may be perfect for each other.
CHEAP SEATS
This story takes place between The Same Breath and The Same End with Jem trying to to prove that he can be a friend to Tean, the bestest friend, while drooling over Chris Hemsworth (obviously the best Chris).
SUPERTROPE: THE BIRTHDAY EPISODE
Tean throws a perfect birthday for the boy/man who never had one and is a tv junkie. He's also learning who that man is, how they fit, maybe not as romantic partners, not yet, but as perfect complements to each other's square corners.
JEM + TEAN: GUYS GONE WILD
This story takes place after THE SAME END, I think a year later? The events of that last adventure have left their mark and GA doesn't gloss that over. This story does serve as the perfect coda to this first arc and to my mind sets up the possibility to what can be in the future for these two.
It also confirmed to me that, despite surface appearances, who is THE LION and who is THE LAMB in this series isn't clear cut and maybe, just maybe, each character takes turns being one or the other. But for me Tean, with all his quirks and outward semblance of fragility is like bulrush that "can handle and withstand long, dry periods", bends but doesn't break.
"Outside, the aspens sang their last song to the mountains, and a coyote called to the moon, and the wilderness of wild things was a kind of wildness in Tean's heart."
❤️❤️ I'll bee waiting the return of these two with a contented heart.

This is a collection of short stories. I think all except for the last one were released through the newsletter. Like all of GA's shorts, they serve as a nice break between the regularly scheduled pain. The last one was set after The Same End and boy did I love that one. While The Same End had a fantastic ending, this gave us kind of an extended epilogue. And because I'm greedy, I DEVOURED it.
I love Tean and Jem. That is all.

I prefer Jem and Tean's relationship much more in these shorts where, for the most part, Tean isn't being a self-absorbed idiot obsessing over Ammon...
That final short though was really sweet and I need to see more of Jem and Tean in an actual relationship - maybe I'll even come to like Tean if I get to see him not treating Jem as a convenient backup option.

Um, duh I loved these short stories. They were a balm to my soul when I needed them most, especially the last one that turned the bittersweet finale into a much sweeter ending (for now, I hope!).

I don't think I can forgive Tean for something he said and I don't like that Ammon being a rapist was never addressed (I doubt it will be).

I really do savor these slice-of-life collections that Ashe writes and compiles for each of his mystery series. Some, like Hazard and Somerset: Off Duty, or North and Shaw: Out of Office, have one or two mystery-lite short stories, but with the unique set-up of The Lamb and the Lion being two amateur sleuths, these are all much more snippets of their everyday lives. These four shorts span from before The Same Breath to after the conclusion of The Same End and they're just wonderfully charming, a little cringey in the ways that Tean tends to be, and very, very, sweet.
I think folks would likely enjoy Guys Gone Wild the most, for obvious reasons! (No spoiler, but you must finish the three main books to really enjoy this short story in particular.) But I sort of adored First Dates, especially Tean's experience, which on one hand, was kind of heartbreaking because he essentially got punk'd, but on the other, the way he dealt with the situation was so typical. He's such a "take home to meet the parents" kind of character, if only Tean would recognize that about himself.
This is a fantastic collection that can be enjoyed in between each title, or in one fell swoop, which is what I enjoy doing. The gravity of these stories are also much lighter, compared to the main series, so it's a nice way to unwind after the stress of murders, mysteries, mayhem, and emotional stress that Ashe is known to put readers through.

I read three of these when they were sent out with the author's newsletter (and I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard as when I read Cheap Seats!). The fourth - and final - story is new and set post The Same End,
I always like these little glimpses of "normal" Greg gives us in these vignettes, of moments when the guys are having a bit of a break from being beaten up, shot at or put through the wringer, and these short stories manage to be funny and upbeat while staying true to the characters.

There are lots of excellent authors who write romance novels. There are fewer who can transport readers into the experience of romance - the highs, the lows, the doubt, the vulnerability, the difficulties, the joys, the good, the bad, the ugly - not just the HEA, and wholly transport me into the very specific, finite world of their principal characters. It’s marvelous. But then there is an even smaller subset of authors who craft these meticulous, marvelous relationships - worth the price of admission all on their own - and successfully entwine them within a broader, equally compelling story. One of the best is Gregory Ashe.
Mr. Ashe’s novels - the characters and the overarching storylines that link his various series’ - absolutely transport a reader into a world he painstakingly brings to life. Readers never doubt his principal characters will eventually find happiness with each other, but he takes the time to illustrate the hard work that goes into merging complicated, messy lives. It’s difficult and sometimes fun and funny and heartbreaking and painful and wonderful, and it never feels superfluous to the bigger story. It’s real. It’s authentic. It’s addictive! It’s why I love his books. Fortunately, he also enjoys gifting fans with short stories that are lighter and fluffier, too!
Jem and Tean: Guys Gone Wild, features one of my most favorite opposites attract couples, Jem and Tean. Most Ashe fans (and fans of the The Lamb and the Lion series) already devoured the first three novellas in this collection (released via the authors newsletters), and will take the time to re-read and savor them all over again, anyway. They’re terrific - and in the case of Cheap Seats - also hilarious.
But fans are in for an extra special treat with the final story: Jem + Tean: Guys Gone Wild, showcasing this pair FINALLY as a committed, romantic couple. Cheap Seats seemed a little pointless when read between Book 2 and 3, but I might have felt differently if I'd read it between 1 and 2 when it's set.
The Birthday Episode was awesome and a very sweet moment in their friendship. (Also, there can never be enough Buffy references. Jem's obsession with 90's tv is so much fun.)
Thank god there's an epilogue!! That ending really needed it, and this felt so true to the characters and their relationship while still being romantic as hell in their own awesome way. Tean feels so lucky to have found his person, and Jem is so head over heels he actually has the ability to force himself out of his own way so he can go get Tean out of his head. Awwwwwwwwwwwww. They are so GOOD together.

Having already read some of these stories, thanks to being subscribed to Greg's newsletter, I always buy the collections that he publishes as a thank you. I loved Cheap Seats, and was waiting for Guys Gone Wild as it takes place after The Same End. Will Jem and Tean last?? Hopefully Gregory Ashe will let us know further down the road. 😀

These series of short excerpts cover a broad period through the Lamb and the Lion from before Teancum (Mr Goody-Two-Shoes) and Jeremiah (Mr Moderately Bad Boy) even met to when they'd finally! got together as boyfriends. AS entirely character-driven romance vignettes, Mr Ashe gets plenty of scope to showcase that wonderfully wacky dynamic that exists between Tean and Jem .... the fatalistic factoid reels, Tean's scary culinary repertoire, Jem's potty mouthing and relentless pushing of personal space/physical boundaries, Scipio's doggie demonstrations of boundless love and devotion, one can go on and on ... my personal highlight being the birthday gift shopping scenes at the Black Hole boutique - OMG I was rolling about in stitches. Just delightful!

Too slight to earn 5 stars, but an adorable addition to the TeanJem verse and fun to see them in less stressful surroundings. Love these two bozoes.

OMG, these lovely little vignettes are just the perfect balm for our tortured souls. There are several short stories here, the first of which actually occurs before Jem and Tean meet and they give sweet and hilarious glimpses into their personalities and their relationship as it develops throughout the series. I'd happily read about them doing the most mundane day-to-day things and I'd probably never get enough of them.

A collection of short stories from the wonderful The Lamb and the Lion series
First Dates: This is a great introduction to the characters of the series, as it happens before they meet each other, and does an excellent job presenting us with the main characteristics of Tean and Jem.
I must be honest and say this up-front: I love Tean. I love his absurdly grim scenarios and his nerdiness. I love how competent he is at his work and how kind he is even when he has been tricked.
Jem, OTHO, seems to be such a cold-hearted conman, and yet... he doesn't take advantage of his innocent date, nor he makes fun of him. He is nice and understanding.
A lovely beginning to a great series.
Cheap Seats: I love how proficient Jem has become to the let's-imagine-the-worst,-most-gruesome-possible-way-to-die game. And I loved seeing Jem trying to get tickets abiding Tean's rules: No breaking any laws and no lying. You have to give it to him: the man is resourceful :P
One of the best scenes here is when Tean and Jem are totally disregarding an increasingly bewildered Jazz Hat and having a surrealist discussion between them. And Tean certainly knows where his not-best-friend's strength lies:

Supertrope: The Birthday Episode: I adored it! I simply adore Tean's description of the episodes 'the one where her fake sister runs away to fight the woman with the bad perm'? That's awesome! *dies laughing*
And I have to acknowledge that Jem's way to celebrate his birthday is... original :P Tean setting an emergency party-planning workstation is SO Tean that I wanted to cry. The whole shopping trip was surreal and hilarious, and I have to say it: Tean's concept of a good conversation starter is... controversial at least XD
Having them bargaining about how many hugs and how much time should Tean endure them was such a 'they' thing to do. Pretty much like Tean running off was very much him. The idea of Tean baking a cake had ME running off screaming, though.
But the ending, oh, 💕 that ending!💕 If I didn't already love Tean I'd had fall for him right then and there. The man is the most caring, thoughtful, amazing human being.
Simply lovely :)

And let me tell you this, Jem trying to be a good camper is hilarious :P
So, there they are, in the woods. And Jem has to deal with his hot boyfriend chopping wood, deadly snakes (to his mind, at least), lighting the chimney fire... and prepare an awesome dinner for Tean.
Because, as always, Tean attempts to improvise recipes with very unlikely ingredients is funny as hell... as long as you don't have to taste the results *laughs* Jem is smart, he'll never do it :P
But there is a lot of love, too. These men deserve happiness and they are wonderful at giving it to each other.

The whole process, Tean decided, was like being invaded by a marijuana-loving, underwear-stealing, refrigerator-emptying, dog-seducing horde, and having to pretend the whole time that civilization wasn’t burning down around you.. Oh, and Jem is being forced to keep his word :P

I found this anthology overall a lot of fun. These stories highlight what makes this series stand out for me from Ashe’s other mystery/suspense books. One is the dynamic between Jem and Tean. I love their banter and bickering. These are two men who most people don’t understand, but who truly see each other and care for one another. The other piece is I love seeing Jem work the system (or an unsuspecting victim), just because I adore the cleverness of watching him work. So these stories give us moments in time where we get to see both of those aspects of the series in action.

Jem and Tean: Guys Gone Wild is a series of short stories/novellas that takes place throughout The Lamb and the Lion series. We get introduced to Tean and Jem as they going on blind date fails, see their friendship grow away from the drama, all of it ending with a very sweet moment for them as an official couple.
As always, I love some good slice of life moments. One of my complaints with this series was that there wasn't enough of Tean and Jem together - the slowest of all slow burns - but I really enjoyed seeing more of the relationship develop in these stories. The birthday party just hit me in the feels! Tean giving Jem back that part of his childhood, I mean I don't know how they weren't just immediately in love after that.
The last one was my favorite. They are both still recovering mentally from everything that happened and are just supporting and loving each other. It's kind of their relationship in a nutshell - branching out and trying new things but they know each other well enough to make it a good, new experience for them both. I really hope we get more of them in later books!

This is a cute colection of short stories, for those of us who are subscribed to Mr Ashe's newsletter, only the last one is new... Despite having read them before, I enjoyed them a lot, though I have to recognise that the one I enjoyed most is the last one, the new one, "Jem + Tean: Guys Gone Wild", I really needed this glimpse at their HEA...
