Scout Silver can rehabilitate the most wounded of horses. But when an injured soldier shows up at her ranch, will she follow his lead down a trail of love?
Though she’s the daughter of a general, Scout Silver is used to giving orders, not taking them. That's why horses thrive on the rehabilitation ranch she runs with her half-sisters. Over the years, her absentee father’s many divorces created a patchwork family, held together by their love of the ranch. But his last will is an order that threatens to rip their lives apart.
As the leader of an elite group of soldiers run by the brilliant tactician General Abraham Silver, Lincoln Rawlings has set out on his final mission—to fulfill the dying wish of his commander by ensuring that the general's six daughters are taken care of. When Linc arrives on the Silver Star Ranch, he learns that what the Silver sisters need are husbands, else they’ll lose their beloved business. Instead of doing an immediate about-face, Linc's heart stands at attention under the assessing gaze of Scout, the eldest Silver.
Unwilling to let her father once again interfere in her life, even from the grave, Scout has no plans to give in to the general’s demands. But when she meets the handsome and accommodating Linc, she has a hard time reigning in her heart.
Letting down the general is not an option, but Linc is hiding a secret from Scout. And if she learns of the deep wounds he bears, he might lose everything—the ranch, his honor, and the woman he’s falling for.
Find out if love can truly heal all wounds in this light-hearted, sweet romance of convenient arrangements that unfold into lasting love. His Pledge to Honor is the first in a series of marriage of convenience tales featuring Wounded Warriors who are healed with the power of love.
Shanae Johnson was raised by Saturday Morning cartoons and Afterschool Specials. She still doesn’t understand why there isn’t a life lesson that ties the issues of the day together just before bedtime. While she’s still waiting for the meaning of it all, she writes stories to try and figure it all out.
And by the way, the E elongates the A. So it’s pronounced Shan-aaaaaaaa. Perfect for a hero to call out across the moors, or up to a balcony. If you hear him calling her name, please send him her way!
A father dies and leaves a will for his daughters all wondering who gets the massive ranch. His stipulation is they all can have a share but only if they get married first. Cue the search for husbands. This read just a bit sexist, but I did enjoy the characters. 3 ⭐.
Lots of proof-reading errors and phrases that don’t make sense in context.
Simplistic in its presentation of the soldier and the oldest sister. But perhaps that was the author’s way of showing us the mind of a man with a traumatic brain injury?
No character arcs, no growth; a straight forward insta-love story. A quick read, but enjoyable if you manage your expectations. I enjoy fairy tales and that’s how I would describe this book: kind of like reading a fairy tale.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
His Pledge to Honor by Shanae Johnson is the first book in The Silver Star Ranch series. Scout Silver works to rehabilitate the most wounded horses. As the daughter of a general, she knows how to give orders. She, along with her half sisters, runs a rehabilitation ranch where the horses thrive and find a new life. Her absentee father’s many divorces created a jumbled family tree. The sisters’ love for the ranch have held them together; however; their father’s last will contains a clause that threatens to ruin everything. General Abraham Silver was the leader of an elite group of soldiers, he jokingly nicknamed “President’s Men.” He asks these men to make sure his daughters are taken care of and Lincoln Rawlings sets out to make good on his word. When Linc arrives at the ranch, he immediately is drawn to Scout, the eldest daughter. Both with their own scars and wounds, can Linc and Scout find love healing? His Pledge to Honor opens a series of marriages of convenience and lasting love romance. Featuring Wounded Warriors who find healing with love. All sounds great and I was looking forward to reading this book. The first chapter where we are introduced to Scout and her half sisters was very confusing and headache inducing. I had to take notes on the family tree as each sister was introduced. And the sisters’ names!?!?! I know their father was a military man but jeez louise! I enjoyed the introduction of Linc and the rest of the President’s Men and their arrival at the ranch was great. My heart broke for these men and the wounds they are still recovering from. However, something felt off about the story. Overall, this story was okay, fairly enjoyable, but I most likely will not be continuing the series. If you enjoy marriage of convenience romance with wounded warriors, I recommend checking out His Pledge to Honor.
His Pledge to Honor is available in paperback and eBook
My review today is on the Romance, His Pledge to Honor. This is the first book in the series A Silver Star Ranch Romance. I really enjoy Shanae's stories. This is a delightful one. It's well written, humorous, and heartwarming. I know you are going to love it.
Scout Silver and her five sisters are called into the lawyer's office sometime after the death of their father, the General. They had all assumed Scout would have the ranch as she is the one that runs it. What they learn is that their father left a part to each of them under the stipulation that they all marry by the end of the year or the ranch goes to their (evil) step mother, Cruella. (She is also the mother of one of the daughters) How are they suppose to marry? Men just don't fall from the sky! Then Scout looks up from the horses she had been watching and there are six of the biggest, best looking men she had ever seen. Had the General sent them husbands?
Lincoln Rawlings and his men have been staying at the Purple Heart Ranch. The six men had each been wounded in their last mission. Their beloved General had been killed and so they had a new mission now. A vow to help the General's daughters anyway they could. They were after all called The President's Men. When Lincoln heard that all Scout needed was a husband he stepped up.
A truly delightful journey of marriage of convenience. A journey full of twists and turns. I can't wait to read the next one.
Scout Silver runs the Silver Star Ranch, in the absence of her military General father. She's the eldest of six sisters, four of whom work the ranch. Now the sisters learn they must all marry within a year of the General's death to keep the Ranch. He died in war, three months ago. When their father died he was surrounded by his hand picked soldiers, known as the President's Men. All were injured in the same mission. Now they are heading for the Silver Star to keep their promise to the General. The vow to check on and help his daughters. Six soldiers and six daughters needing grooms. Lincoln Rawlings is the team leader. He's suffered a traumatic head injury and is coping with his own regimented system. He and Scout are almost immediately drawn to each other. And, in keeping with their pledge to her father, he agrees to marry Scout. The ensuing quasi-relationship reveals that some promises lead to love. This is a sweet, caring and satisfying romance between two hurting people who find love unexpectedly. This series has a lot of promise to be excellent.
This book is the perfect beginning of the Silver girls love lives with the help of their deceased father. Scout is dedicated to saving mistreated or injured horses and saving her family's ranch. Linc was in the service, served under her father, injured in his units last mission where they also lost her father. Scout's father had continually spoke of his daughters to his men. So once they were out of rehab, they all went to the ranch to help. Linc has a memory processing problem so he writes everything down to keep things in order. Scout didn't know how his injuries affected him until the day she was in his cabin. Things are up and down for these two but it was such a good story. I'm ready to read the next book. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have. Written by Cindy :)
Scout and Lincoln. This was a good quick story. Scout and her sisters just learned that if her and her sisters don't marry by the end of the year they could lose the family ranch to their ex stepmother who wants to sell it. In comes Lincoln and his men who served with the girls father and made an oath to check on them once they were released from the hospital as each men are nursing wounds from what took the General's life. Lincoln has a head wound that makes it hard to remember things and he is prone to writing post its. Scout is a strong independent woman. This was a good instalove story with wonderful characters. Look forward to reading the other characters stories.
Scout and Linc—the General’s eldest daughter and one of his elite squad he called The Presidents Men. Even in death, he’s ordering people around. His daughters must marry to keep their ranch and his men were ordered to look after the daughters to help them. Conveniently, there are six of each. So in this first book of the series, Scout and Linc find they have a strong attraction from the outset, despite the challenges that his traumatic brain injury cause. It takes some work, but they find their HEA. Serious editing issues.
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. I felt this was a great start to this series. There were a lot of characters but easy to follow along in the story. This was about how the daughters of General Abraham Silver had to follow his wishes in order to keep the ranch owned now by the sisters. A group of SEALs come to the ranch to help out. This one about Scout and Linc and this is a series you want to read.
Enjoyable reading. Both the H/h are wounded individuals. The H physically and the h emotionally. But they find theirs healing in each other as they come to know each other. They will help and complete the other for the rest of their lives. The only negative is the fact a good proof reader was needed. A computer is not enough. The lack of a good proofing resulted in the lack of a smooth read at times. The story was great and different so it kept my attention.
I enjoyed this clean, contemporary romance. Sisters needed husbands to save the ranch. In comes wounded warriors sent by their deceased father. I like that the author showcased how even though you might have physical or emotional damage, you still have purpose and can give and receive love. I did feel the romance between Linc and Scout was somewhat rushed making it a bit unbelievable. That’s why I gave it four stars instead of five.
His Pledge to Honor is the heart warming first romantic story in the Silver Star Ranch series. Scout and Linc make great leading characters for a beautiful read with extra depth. Johnson has skilfully written a storyline with characters and relationships you attach to. His Pledge to Honor is filled with descriptions of characters and moments, which also brings about character development with a great romance in their relationship.
It was a great story and the characters were nicely defined. It was hard to follow due to the run on sentences. A good editor to polish it would be perfect. I had to re-read them to comprehend where she was going. It did not flow well. I would still read more by this author. The guys were just right for heat. 😁
This story was truly enjoyable. The characters were interesting and I found them relatable in a few ways. I love the way the plot unfolded and am interested in reading more. The few typos were what took away 3/4 of a star. If you enjoy sweet romance, then you should give this book a try.
The General had six daughters he had little time for. He was always gone on a mission. After being killed in war, his will required all the girls had to marry in three months to be able to keep their ranch. Could this possibly come to pass? Read to learn their fate.
This is amazing love story with a plot and characters that sweep you away right from the beginning. I’m looking forward to reading the next in series. I absolutely love reading Shanae Johnson’s stories.
Scout is looking to keep the families ranch, to do that she and her five sisters have to be married. Enter the six guys who served under her father. Lincoln has his eyes set on her. Will she accept him? Can they make it work?
The General's President 's Men were at his ranch to fulfill his final mission after his death, make sure his daughters were taken care of. Lincoln decided that his sights should set on Scout, the General's oldest daughter. She didn't want to be anyone's mission.
This first of the series was a good book. I enjoyed the soldiers and their dedication to their leader. This love story was sweet in many ways and hard to get through but I recommend you read for yourself.
This was a really nice clean read. The biggest disappointment is each sister is another book. So even though there is one HEA, the reader will never know the outcome until finishing all the books. Which creates an issue with this reader.
General Silver has 6 daughters. Before his death, he asked his men to look after them. His men are all wounded warriors I love how each man works to overcome their challenges.
This reminds me of another book I've recently read, but I enjoyed it none the less and look forward to seeing how the other 5 sisters do in securing their inheritance or not?
5 sisters trying to hold on to their ranch, but now they learn that have to marr in the next 3 months. Then their dads unit of 5 men arrive to help them out, will they be the answer to the marriage problem.
His Pledge to Honor has an interesting twist to ir. I look forward to the rest of the series. It's well written and I like the way the characters Inter weave. The series could be predictable.
Their father was a piece of work but the men he sent to his daughters may make up for it. Lincoln knew he wanted Scout from the beginning and they were just right for each other.
This was a great book on the lives of 6 soldiers who were returning from the war and had promised their leader The General that they would look after his daughters for him. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Released from the military because of a traumatic brain injury, Linc goes to Scout’s ranch at the request of her father. The effects of Linc’s injury were very endearing. Great romance but just way too short!
I have read several books with the same "will" stipulation and each time I ask myself "why not sell to someone that you trust (such as the Father). Wouldn't that stop the stipulation?" Hmmmm something to think about I guess
Readiness is the recurring question in the story. Though some events happened without forewarning, the characters required an action within a brief timeframe with pending conditions. Thoughts of uncertainty challenged what seemed to be an answer, and talking cleared the difficult away.
