Cocky Hero Club

Arrogant Single Dad

Rate this book
I can’t believe I’ve fallen in love with a single dad.

I’m not looking for anything serious when I fall into Logan Simpson’s bed. He’s the former basketball team captain and my high school sweetheart. We broke up when we went to different colleges. He has a business and a three-year-old girl named Annabelle now. His ex-wife is out of the picture, and somehow we end up tangling the sheets together.

Now I’m pregnant and don’t know how to tell him the news.

I absolutely hate not finishing books. So when I got to 30% of this book and couldn't get into it I thought maybe it was just me as I hadn't connected with the last book either. So I pushed on. But by 50% I still wasn't liking it but I had to finish it. So I pushed on.

Sadly, I should have just put it down at 30% and left it because it just didn't work for me. I love single parent romance, and throw in a whoops baby and I'm super excited. But this wasn't the one for me.

I have this phrase that I picked up from a book forever ago that was "show, don't tell" and unfortunately it felt like the author told me the whole story. And there was a lot of randomness that just felt disconnected to the story. 70% of the book had a lot of nothing much that needed to be more and the last 30% had everything else that felt super rushed.

There was also a lot of repetition of some rather pointless points that the author obviously felt were important. The 5 epilogues were a little much and I think by the epilogues the author had lost track of how old the kids were, which confused and annoyed me.

But that's the blessing and the curse of these "world" novellas. I get a taste of an authors writing without a massive commitment and then I can add new favourites or figure out that maybe they aren't for me.

So, here’s the thing … this probably should me more like a, 2.5 leaning towards 2-star book, because of content and choices, but it was well written, so I flipped it to lean towards 3 stars. That’s possibly reading a little weird to some of you, but the story had a few too many plot points that either were left up in the air or just did not make any sense. Add to that a child that might possibly have needed an exorcism and you have a reader *deep breathing* thru most of the story. The bones of this story are pretty good but choices! *sigh*

When you read a new-to-you author, it’s hit or miss. This time, it was a miss.

The blurb interested me enough to read it, but there was nothing more than what’s in it. The blurb is 80% of the story, the rest are multiple epilogues. Even worse, those elements were poorly written. I felt like the author told me the story she wanted to write, instead of actually writing it.

Characters had no depth. I even strongly hated Annabelle, Logan’s daughter. Quite a feat. Their actions and reactions made no sense. I didn’t see how Logan was arrogant–as the title suggests. Although the book was quite short, there were endless repetitions of the same thoughts and memories.

I didn’t DNF, but I was close. I didn’t even find comfort in the sexy times that were poorly executed.

Quickie

- Series: standalone (but part of the Cocky Hero Club)
- Hashtags: #second chance romance #single dad #surprise pregnancy #high school sweethearts
- Triggers: N/A
- Main couple: Candace Beauclaire & Logan Simpson
- Hotness: 1/5
- Romance: 1/5
- + it was interesting to see a character who chooses to upend her life to start a family
- – I’d have liked to read a book, instead of the detailed summary of one

I loved how the characters in this book were written into the story so every event was just easy to blend into.

Candace was feeling the pressure of getting married and having babies like all of her friends were. Being a successful business owner living in New York, she felt the selections were harder. Going back home to Indiana was just what she needed.

Logan left his high school sweetheart and chose a different path to college. He ended up married with a baby and a wife who didn’t want either. Seeing Candace at the grocery store was all he needed to realize she was the one who got away.

They fell easily back into what once was and continued to pursue all of the dreams they always had with one another. It’s true that distance apart makes the heart grow fonder.

Candace is back in Indiana visiting when she runs into her high school sweetheart, Logan. He's a single dad now, with a gorgeous daughter who takes an immediate liking to her and vice versa. When hanging out with him and his daughter leads to a hot encounter, will it lead to more also?

Unfortunately, I could not connect to either Candace or Logan. They weren't the vibrant, sexy people I was expecting for a couple in Vi and Penelope's Cocky Hero Club. Their chemistry was lacking that intensity I look for, not just in a CHC story, but a romance in general. I didn't hate it or anything, but it just did not work for me. Sorry, but this is not quite up to the standards of the writing of the other stories I've read in this series, nor does it do the Cocky Hero Club justice.

Arrogant Single Dad is a second chance romance.
Logan and Annabelle may have been high school sweet hearts but life took them in different directions. She is now back in town and Logan is a hometown single dad. This was a slow start for me and this couple but I truly enjoyed their journey of rediscovering themselves individually and now as a new couple with a little boy in the mix.

Candace is celebrating as well as feeling a little blue. She’s gone back to her old stomping grounds when she meets up with an old flame. Old flame comes with a flamet. That flamet will steal every scene she’s in – she’s one hot ticket. There’s plenty of laughs that come with this story.

The heat that our main characters create may seem hot but I got to be more interested in our little scene stealer and what she was up to. She had me wanting to jump right into the story so I could have the chance to play with her. I found it interesting how the author does the first person but we only get Candace’s version of the events that unfold. It did leave me wanting more.

We never get any impressions or feelings from Logan’s point of view. On the whole there wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about the story but in reading the title I made an assumption that I would hear something from him. Based on the series that this is connected to, I thought I would get to see how cocky Logan was. Maybe I missed something but Candace didn’t give me any impression except for what a great guy he was. You will get your money’s worth with the ending(s) the author has created. If you’re looking for a story that you can finish in just a couple of hours then this would be a book to look into. This was my first foray into a world that this author has created and I will be sure to check out some more of her work.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Candace has turned her love of books into her own company which has put her personal life on hold. When she was a teenager, she fell in love with Logan however their lives took them in different directions so reuniting with him when she is in her hometown visiting her parents was a surprise she wasn’t expecting.

Logan is a single father to his daughter Annabelle and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her which includes moving back to his hometown and working from home so that he can be there for her. The chemistry and connection between Candace and Logan is stronger than ever but only time will tell if what they shared is nothing more than a fling or the beginning of forever.

Although I enjoyed seeing Candace and Logan’s relationship unfold it was Annabelle who definitely stole the show.

So this is my first 3.5* for 2021. The story started of great and had so much potential for it to be a great read. But somewhere in the middle the story lost its spark. Don't get me wrong was still a good read but some of the things that were happening were (in my eyes) kinda strange.

Like said it was a an OK read and I'm hoping my next read by the author will be a better fit.

Maybe 2.5 Stars?
This wasn't very good. For it to be as short as it was, there was so much repetition throughout! The same word(s) being used what seemed like 4 or 5 times within 2 or 3 sentences. General sentences or sentence themes being repeated within a couple of paragraphs of each other. The whole book was written like a school essay, where you have to have so many words, so things were expanded with unnecessary adjectives and ideas were repeated.

And for a single parent book, it was weird to have a heroine (who would eventually get pregnant during the story - that's in the blurb, so not a spoiler) who clearly doesn't like kids. She talks down about all of her New York friends being pregnant and having kids, and also says/thinks things about the Hs kid that don't show any maternal instinct. Maybe this falls on how the audiobook was narrated, but it was very apparent that she was not mother material. And having her every so often say what a cute kid she was didn't make me believe it. Partly, again due to the narration, but also, because that kid was a spoiled brat. And so was the new kid in the epilogues. It's rare for me to dislike kids in single parent books, but there was no redemption here, the kids were just brats until the end. Even though he gave into every demand of his 3 year old, the H was about the only thing I liked in the story. And since there wasn't a POV from him, it almost felt like he was just in the background.

Candace left home for college and never really went back but to celebrate her thirtieth birthday she is taking a week off from work and going back to Indiana. She never thought that when she got there she would see Logan, the one that got away. The two end up reconnecting in more ways than one, but what happens in Indiana... doesn't stay there. Candace ends up taking a little piece of Logan back home to New York, now she just has to figure out how to tell him she is pregnant.

Not sure where to start with this one, it was just an ok read. Logan wasn't really the arrogant dad, so much as he was just a dad. This is a super short story, so it goes at lightening speed, that said there was a lot of filler for something like that. At first we get the picture that Candace doesn't like kids, so it comes out of left field how she was with Annabelle. Also, if you are going to write about kids, you might want to know about kids, not sure if the author has any but she has Annabelle talking like a six year old while being three; and any parent knows you don't take a kid to the ER for a fever of 100 and some barfing.... and you def don't get antibiotics. Now, you may think I'm being a bit nit picky but these are things that stand out to me. I won't get into the whole plot hole about the birth mother. I give this 3.5 stars

Another great addition to the Cocky Hero World and another new author for me to follow, I loved everything about this book and it ticked all my boxes, after all whats nor to love about a swoon worthy single dad with an adorable little girl named Annabelle.
Candace and Logan have history, they were high school sweethearts but Logan walked away to follow his dream and breaking Candace’s heart in the process. Candace is back home and the last person she expects to come face to face with is the man who still holds a piece of her heart. What Candace and Logan don’t realise this chance meeting is about to change both their life’s.....
I fell hard and fast for Logan who is now a successful businessman who devotes any spare time he has to his adorable 3 year old daughter Annabelle, the relationship he shares with her is heart warming and adorable and it really knocked me off my feet. This may be a short read bit it still packs a mighty punch, it has plenty of witty banter and lots of sizzling chemistry but it’s the classic one liners only a child can deliver that put the icing on the cake for me. I highly recommend you one click this gem because I’m sure like me, you will fall in love with this adorable couple and their story.

Candace is a massive work-a-holic who lives in New York City. She goes home to take a one week vacation and bumps into her high school love, Logan. Logan is the sweetest, all-American guy next door type. Okay, and he's a bit alpha, too! Anyway, I wouldn't call him the "arrogant single dad." But his daughter, Annabelle, is a little tyrant. Way too little rules with that kid. She was over the top in this book. I loved the sweet love story between Candace and Logan. Candace just needed to get out of her own way and let the relationship happen. One of the things I was wondering is why didn't Logan contact Candace after she returned to New York? She contacted him weeks later. I thought that was problematic. Plus, Logan's daughter's behavior in this book was just deplorable. (That behavior woulnd't fly in my large family.) There was some comedy to it, but that knocked my review down a little. I would be interested in reading some of the paranormal books by this author because the story line was a good one and I love suprise pregnancies in a romance. I'm all about the alpha guy taking care of his woman. 3.5 stars

I've had the chance to read a few books from The Cocky Hero Club series and I've been loving every single one.
Now, here I am, reading another book that's written by a new author to me.
Alyse Zaftig is the author in question and let me tell you that I'll be reading more from her
That's for sure.
Arrogant Single Dad is her latest release and explores the lives of Candace and Logan.
Logan is a former basketball team captain that sees himself dividing his time in between his daughter and his job.
He and Candace were highschool sweethearts but time and their wants kept them apart.
Now they reunited and...
And it's over... Why? So soon? Why?
I really enjoyed this book.
Good plot, well written, sweet, and beautiful.
The characters worked perfectly with each other and I loved everything.
It's amazing guys, when love has the ability to find you again. True love will not die so fight for it.
Don't give up.
I loved Annabelle. She's a sweetheart. Sassy and funny.
I was so into the book that I've read it in one sitting.
In one minute it was over.
Great book Alyse Zaftig. Perfect.  I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is the first book I have read by the author and it is a fast paced, second chance at romance with a little girl who makes it worth reading. Candace is a woman who has been bent on starting her business in New York but decided to return home to celebrate her birthday at the persuasion of her parents. Logan is a single father who stepped up to raise his daughter Annabelle when his wife left. Upon a chance meeting at a supermarket, Candace and Logan begin to rekindle some of those old feelings that they had when they were younger but can they weather the distance between them? The saving grace of this storyline is the sweet three-year-old Annabelle who attempts to play matchmaker. It feels a little rushed to get through the plot and I would have preferred a few additional chapters instead of the numerous epilogues. Also, a dual perspective would have added a little more to the storyline so readers would get to see Logan’s viewpoint. I plan to read more from this author.

4 Star Review Arrogant Single Dad (Cocky Hero Club) by Alyse Zaftig
For the last few years I have been gravitating to single parent stories. I loved Arrogant Single Dad by new to me author Alyse Zaftig. I love finding new authors and this was an entertaining read.

Candace and Logan have history, having been in a relationship in high school. However time and distance broke them apart. All it takes is one night to change the course of a persons life and that is what happens to Candace and single dad Logan when she returns to her home town and they bump in to one another again.

Logan is a successful businessman and dad to a beautiful three year old daughter Annabelle. I loved his relationship with Annabelle, it was heart warming. Although this is not a particularly long book, Alyse Zaftig packed a lot in to the story.

Can Candace and Logan re connect and make a future together or are they destined to remain apart? One click and find out.

This was a quick read. Very mild conflict, if I could even call it that. Candace and Logan were high school sweethearts who went to different colleges, which ultimately broke them up. They pursued their careers and became successful business owners. Their re-introduction to each other was fast. I thought a little too fast especially with Logan’s daughter Annabelle around.

I didn’t get the arrogant part of the title. Logan was anything but. He was down to earth and put his child first, business second. I felt that Annabelle was a bit of a brat, but given that her dad’s world centered on her, it was not surprising. Aside from that Annabelle was a pretty well-adjusted child in the absence of her mother and was very intuitive.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Candace is a workaholic who lives in NYC, but she comes home to visit her parents for a week-long vacation. She runs into her high school sweetheart Logan, who's now a divorced, single father to an adorable 3 year old little girl, who could turn into a tyrant from time to time. She & Logan went their separate ways when they went off to college, but they find out they still have that spark after all of this time. It won't be denied but they have an expiration date since she has to go back to NYC and he's where he is. I think that this story would have been better if we had both POVs because Logan did something that I didn't like making it hard for me to forgive him because I don't know what was truly going through his head. Arrogant Single Dad is a quick read that I couldn't put down despite the issue I had but please decide for yourselves! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This story is a great addition to this amazing series. This is Logan and Candace’s journey. These two used to be high school sweethearts until they separated for different colleges. Logan is a former basketball team captain who is now a single dad to a 3-year-old little girl, while Candace is a workaholic who comes home for a little break. Fate brings these two together again, but will they have a 2nd chance? This is a well written story which is fast paced, sweet, entertaining, emotional, humorous, and heartwarming. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

Second chance. I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. This author is new to me. This is Logan and Candace's story. Candace knew Logan in high school. He was her high school crush. Logan was the captain of the basketball team. Now after they are grown, she runs into him and his daughter. I love Logan's daughter. It just shows you how fate always has a way of bringing the right people back together again. If you love reading about a second chance, surprise baby, fast-paced romance. Then this is the one for you. Can't wait to read more from this author. Keep up the great job!

Arrogant Single Dad is a quick easy 2nd chance read. There is no real drama just a very nice story of two young people who's love affair ended when they both went of to different colleges.

Candace now has own business and lives in NY Logan Simpson married and divorced now with a toddler is back living and running his business from their home town of Carmel. On a trip home Candace bumps into Logan and his precious daughter Annabelle and instantly falls in love.

But Candace is only home for a week and her life and business is in NY what will happen when the holiday comes to an end!

Candace is simply giving into her family's begging when she plans her week-long trip back to Indiana. However, when she runs into Logan & his little girl while she's there, she begins to wonder if her life truly isn't missing a lot of things.

I didn't feel a connection between Logan & Candace in this short read. There was more of Candace & Annabelle's relationship in the book than theirs. It would have been better had we had Logan's POV. And then there were the epilogues... I felt as though the author just drafted a storyline, and filled in stuff to fit. The blurb was more exciting than the book itself.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

𝐴𝑅𝑅𝑂𝐺𝐴𝑁𝑇 𝑆𝐼𝑁𝐺𝐿𝐸 𝐷𝐴𝐷 was a quick read, perfect just before bed. The story revolves around Logan and Candace, who once were high school sweethearts, but chose different universities and eventually split. To me, their first meeting after the break was a little too fast, and there was no much drama. Also, Logan was everything, but arrogant, he showed that he really cared about Candace and his daughter Annabelle. Annabelle was a little rude at some points, but apart from that she was a typical child.

Oh you will get it all with this story a second chance at romance, love, lust, family, and laughs. Candace doesn't know how to take a break when she's force to go home to take some R & R she never expects to run into the one man she has always loved. Her highschool sweetheart Logan is one of a kind and now he's living back in their hometown, runs a business, and has an adorable daughter. She just wants to have fun and relax and well it turns into so much more for the both of them. Can they make it work not even living in the same town?

Fun second chance Romance!

High school sweethearts that end up going different directions in life. Candace has come home for a vacation and runs into Logan. The love that was there before has clearly never faded. It was fun watching these two rekindled the flames from before. I have to say Logan's daughter Annabelle stole the show. If you want a quick and fun romance to read this is the book for you.

An enjoyable second chance romance from Alyse Zaftig. Cadence and Logan were high-school sweethearts but ended up going their separate ways. Cadence has been living in New York but a trip back home to Indiana puts her back into the path of now single dad Logan. Is this their second chance to finally get their HEA?

A great instalment to the Cocky Hero Club, and if you love a quick read romance then this is definitely one for you.

I enjoyed reading this book second chance love story by Alyse who was a new author to me. This was a great fun book that was an easy read. Logan a single dad and Candace who is in her home town on vacation bump into one another and hit off just like old times and we follow their love story. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.

Another new to me author and I was glad that I got to read this one because it was a good read.

Candace always thought that Logan is the one that got away and returning home, albeit for just a week, had her remembering him. And he's the first one she met the moment she got home, along with his daughter. I guess you could say there are still lingering feelings between these two. There's still chemistry between them. Once they get to know each other again, they moved too fast and realised Logan's life is different now and his attention should always be on Annabelle.

I just wished it was dual POV so that we'd get more of Logan's side of the story. The title is kind of misleading though as I don't find Logan arrogant at all. But he has one bossy daughter😂 She is one adorable little girl! Their story is kind of fast-paced, but I didn't notice it because I really enjoyed it.

Quick read, but as always, a great addition to the Cocky World series

Candace and Logan were high school sweethearts and ended up going their separate ways after. But fate always has a way of bringing the right people back together again, and Alyse did a great job in building these two characters to finding their way back to each other.

One of my favorites from this series and I look forward to more from this author!
