Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans are a happily married gay couple living their American dream. Their new house, two rambunctious ferrets, and a job they love, make them feel complete. As they walk into work at the ATF the week before Christmas, they’re greeted by friends from the FBI. The idea of a joint case sounds good but when they learn the whole group is being sent out of town, Thayne and Jarrett’s Christmas plans with family is put on ice.
There’s been a suspicious avalanche on Mount Shasta, an extinct volcano in northern California. When Jarrett learns that one of two people with any expertise in ATF explosive avalanche training happens to be none other than his husband, he hopes they’re in for a week of frigid fun.
Tapped for the job as avalanche expert based on training he received over ten years before, Thayne isn’t so thrilled. When he learns that his cheating ex-boyfriend will be joining their team, he predicts nothing but trouble.
Jarrett isn’t looking forward to making a case for a bomber when they can’t even find evidence of a bomb. There are a few things that bother him… a dead park ranger, Thayne’s handsy ex, and couple of runaway reindeers. He’s prepared though… Jarrett’s always prepared. Armed with snow gear, guns, and lederhosen, the pair are about to face a case as illusive and blinding as a snowstorm.

OMG...I had no idea there was going to be another book in this series but oh boy I could read about Jarrett and Thayne forever...I think they are my all time favourite couple..In this they are finding out if an avalanche was caused by a bomb and if so who did it with a risk of missing christmas....We have Lincoln,Mac,Dev,Kane also along for the ride...(which reminds me to read Kane's books)...Jarrett and Thayne get themselves into a bit of trouble, theirs Thaynes ex too who I think we'll be seeing more of him...These two just melt my heart with their love for each other and I can't wait for book 11 x
It’s great to have these guys back for another adventure. While the book centers on Thayne and Jarrett, the rest of the gang is here too.
The story centers around an avalanche that the team is sent to investigate. There is a dead park ranger and a possibility of eco terrorism.
While the story line around the suspense plot is intriguing it’s a bit slow moving. There’s a subplot with Thayne’s ex, a fellow agent out of another office who is also assigned to the case. It starts out with some interesting potential (tension, jealousy, jerky behavior) but then is abruptly off the table. When the crisis comes to a head things come out of left field with bizarre, old connections that are tenuous at best. It almost feels like the author decided to write a different book when she was two thirds through this one. There are also some disconnects to how things occur that are never tied together (can’t be more specific without spoilers.)
There is a sort of cliffhanger ending and then a preview at the end for the next book so it looks like the series is back on the front burner.
While I really enjoyed these books when I read them all a while ago this one got kind of irritating with the jealousy then immediate forgiveness, then more juvenile behavior...it was like these 40 year old men were moody teenagers. It was also like the arguments were an excuse to write prolonged sex scenes. The lack of professionalism in Thayne and Jarrett’s behavior was bothersome as well. No way a married couple would be allowed to continue as partners if they behaved like these two do. The tone just seemed off from the previous books, almost like it was a different author writing this time.
I still enjoyed the book and the annoying parts didn’t really bug me until later in the book so overall it was still a good read and I’ll read the next one.
I stopped reading the book I was reading because Thayne and Jarrett "needed" my attention...I read this book in one sitting [husband had to GrubHub for dinner]...I was panicking and tearful and laughing out loud...and now I'm waiting for the next installment...another great job Ms. Logan!!!
A little slow at first but as always the excitement with this team is off the charts. I did not see that coming with SA Campbell. Definitely a nice little twist to the story.
The sneak peak into book 11 was freaking hilarious!!!! Jarrett and his damn banjo music. And the hearse!!!! I was laughing so hard my husband thought I was choking. I really need to read what happens next.!
❤ An always great start, Jarrett is still finding out secrets from Thayne about his past he'd forgotten to tell about Holden. Scenes play out yah I had to laugh when Holden is put in his place.lol (and every chance they get). What starts out as a simple start to the book, the author always makes its as not always what things appear. Drama's and action and romance along with other character make this book.
Thayne and his sexy partner Jarrett and sometimes naughty continue their story whoops 🎉 Yah guys are my favs. Of to explore why an illegal avalanche explosion was done with 2 people missing. A week from Christmas and Sarah has a mission for them and all involves teaming up with ol gang again.
6+ stars! Thayne and Jarrett, are now 2 of my all-time favorite MC's EVER and I got all 10 books in the series. I binged on the first 8 books then savored the last 2 as I was dreading saying goodbye to them and all their friends and family. So very entertaining. I highly recommend reading them in order as the stories do build on each other, although you can stop after each one (well, in theory you can - I couldn't...)
I just love them all and can't wait to re-read this series again - probably when #11 comes out which is showing but with no release date yet.
I can’t tell you how thankful I am that Patricia Logan decided to bring back Jarrett and Thayne! This is one of my top series of all time.
Thayne and Jarrett are getting ready to head to Mark and Dot’s house for Christmas. Mark is Jarrett’s dad and Dot is Thayne’s mom. They had gotten married to each other the previous summer. But those plans are temporarily put on hold because they are being sent up to Redding/Mt. Shasta area in Northern California after a suspicious avalanche. It looks like the ATF and FBI are needed to investigate what happened. To put the proverbial cherry on the top of all of this is that Thayne’s ex is also going to be a part of this investigation!
I am beyond thrilled to being brought back to get together with Jarrett and Thayne and all their work mates/friends! I was never ready for this series to end. I love those guys and feel like they are a part of me. I love Jarrett’s humor and his fierce protectiveness of Thayne. Seeing the green eyed monster of jealousy spring forward was a sight to behold! And watching Thayne when Jarrett is injured AGAIN (what is it with Patty and her hell-bent desire to keep putting my men in harms way???) was heart wrenching. These two men have enough injuries together to take out a whole platoon of soldiers!
I can honestly tell you that I didn’t see most of the twist and turns coming. Just when I thought I finally had it all figured out…BAM! Another twist!
You will be laughing so hard one minute reading this that you have to wipe you eyes to continue and then the next you can’t turn the pages fast enough when something new pops up!!!
If you haven’t read this wonderful series yet then you are in for a special summertime reading treat! The level of research that these book have in them will blow your mind. I always learn something new and interesting when I take the next step in this journey. Ant recommend this book and series enough.
In "Fire and Ice," Patricia Logan takes readers on a thrilling, icy adventure with ATF agents Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Mount Shasta during the holiday season, this novel blends mystery, action, and the warmth of a love story between its two protagonists, making for a captivating read.
Thayne and Jarrett's plans for a cozy Christmas with family and friends are abruptly put on hold when they're called to investigate a suspicious avalanche in northern California. The assignment quickly turns personal and problematic for Thayne, as it not only dredges up old skills from a decade past but also brings an unwelcome figure from his history into close quarters: his cheating ex-boyfriend.
Logan excels in creating a vivid setting that is both beautiful and menacing. Mount Shasta, with its serene snowscapes and hidden dangers, mirrors the complexities of the case and the relationships among the characters. The avalanche, serving as the central mystery, is a clever plot device that keeps the narrative pace brisk and the tension high.
The dynamics between Thayne and Jarrett are a highlight of the novel. Their deep bond and mutual respect shine throughout the investigation, providing emotional depth amidst the chilling suspense. Logan skillfully navigates their relationship, showing how external conflicts and the appearance of Thayne's ex-boyfriend test and ultimately reinforce their commitment to each other.
Jarrett's preparedness for any situation, armed with an array of snow gear and even lederhosen, injects humor and a sense of readiness into the storyline. His character stands out for his resourcefulness and determination, characteristics that make him a compelling and likable protagonist.
The inclusion of a dead park ranger and runaway reindeers adds layers to the plot, intertwining the investigation with local lore and the harsh realities of nature. These elements, combined with the interpersonal drama, create a multifaceted story that is as unpredictable as it is entertaining.
Yeah, Jarrett and Thayne are back! Instead of cozily preparing for Christmas, the ATF in cooperation with the FBI awaits a case at Mount Shast, where a suspicious avalanche went off. Cold, ice, and snow are in store, and surprisingly, reindeer are encountered. I really liked the setting in the mountains.
The story is exciting, moreover, the author has researched well and you learn a lot of interesting things about avalanches. An avalanche that no one expected, a dead park ranger, a suspicious organization that you do not know if it has something to do with the events and a sudden attack provide entertainment and excitement. And then the team must also work on the scene with Thayne's ex-boyfriend, who still seems to have an interest in Thayne. How will Jarrett react? And can the team solve the case before worse happens? Because it won't stop at the one dead body.....
The characters are likable and I just really like Jarrett and Thayne. What also pleased me was that Kane Delancy and Luca Price are still happy together - the Witsec series says hello.
The audiobook was brilliantly narrated by Michael Dean, as always. It was a pleasure to listen to his voice and he has an incredible talent for bringing a story to life.
"Fire and Ice" is highly recommended: entertaining, suspenseful, hot sex and thrills - I was rooting for and suffering with Thayne and Jarrett.
I’m very new to Patricia Logan’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to Death and Destruction Series. Jarrett & Thayne are back in this latest instalment. During this book Jarrett, Thayne, Lincoln, Mac, Dev & Kane get sent to Northern California as there’s been a suspicious avalanche on Mount Shasta, an extinct volcano and Thayne is one of two people in the ATF who has any expertise in explosive avalanche training but the other happens to be none other than Thayne’s cheating ex.
There were a lot of twists and turns during this book, as well as Jarrett being Jarrett antics. All I can say is that is Thayne’s ex is a complete and utter tool but his ATF partner Dan was pretty awesome and I hope it’s not the last that we see of him. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series as it continues, as well as more books by Patricia Logan in the future. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to others.
It was so good to return to the D&D world and catch up with the gang. Thayne and Jarrett hold a special place in my heart, and going on another crazy mystery (read adventure) with these two and all their colleagues is a pleasure. No one does action filled chaos quite the way these guys do. Thrilled that this series goes on!
I just absolutely adore this series. Jarrett and Thayne are in such a great place together. They are secure in their relationship and each other, and it makes them fun to read about. I’m glad that she continued this series on more than initially expected. I’m excited for the idea that another book is coming. I hope she follows through with that.
Love the series, it was gripping and thrilling but I would have enjoyed it more if there were less sex, if the sex that is in there did not last so long, and the use of the g.d. word was not in there. There was all so a lot of miss spelled words(and I am not talking about the country twang or any of the other accents).
This is truly one of the best MM series I have EVER read! The writing brings the characters to life. From book 1 you will be sucked in to this thrilling series filled with passion, love, adventure, excitement, laughs and everything you could ever want in a romantic suspense novel.
I feel as though Thayne and Jarrett are a part of my lives forever now.
Breath stealing, hair raising and nerve racking Ms. Logan once again pens a story of ATF and FBI agents leading the race to catch terrorists with unexpected betrayal at their heels but dedication and patriotism in their souls.
I don't know how this didn't hit my radar on release, and I'm not ashamed to admit I have a little squee out your when I saw it. However I bought it and read it immediately and I'm so glad I did.
Jarrett and Thayne's return to action just made me happy. There's all of the usual action and mayhem you'd expect from our favourites ATF agents and their band of brothers and sisters; this time investigating whether an avalanche was a natural disaster or something more sinister.
Fire and Ice is exactly the kind of entertaining mystery I needed for an afternoon's reading...a wild ride without having to leave the comfort of the sofa. 4.5*
