ANGEL PARK, the final book of C.J. Booth’s Park trilogy, is an edgy thrill ride to a heart-rending end that no one will see coming.Detectives Stan Wyld, Jake Steiner and Mallory Dimante struggle to unravel the mystery of the murder and dismemberment of Hollywood film director James Marston but all they find are more mysteries… Why has Anna Chase, an eleven-year-old middle-schooler living in a small town in New Jersey, seemingly partnered with Ilsa Pokovich, a 50 year-old California felon, to commit murder…Why has the original detective on the Olive Park case remained quiet all these years…And why does the answer to everything seem to lie in a stuffed bear rescued from the burned-out trailer of serial killer Ruby Everheart. What Wyld, Steiner and Dimante find propels them back into a treacherous and dark past. It shakes what they think they know about who they can trust and who they believe. And it forces them into a lethal showdown, protecting Michael and Jessie Cooper…and themselves, from Ruby Everheart’s terrifying teacher. Angel Park crackles with insistent, heart-stomping energy as it plummets toward a conclusion that will exact a devastating human toll on one of the three detectives of Sacramento, California’s cold case division. It is Wyld, Steiner and Dimante’s ultimate test, for the depravity of serial killer Ruby Everheart pales against the evil they must now confront.
C. J. Booth Following his careers in broadcasting and film and video production, he has brought detectives Stan Wyld, Jake Steiner and Mallory Dimante to life in “Olive Park”, his first novel and the first novel in the series involving Sacramento’s fictional OID – Ongoing Investigation Division, the cold case division. C. J. has studied with Judith Guest (“Ordinary People”), Rebecca Hill (“A Killing Time in St. Cloud”), Gary Braver (“Tunnel Vision”, “Skin Deep”), and David S. Freeman (“Beyond Structure”). Olive Park, Crimson Park and Angel Park are all part of the The Park Trilogy, which is available in an e-book box set as the "The Park Trilogy." C.J. lives with his wife on an island near Seattle, Washington.
Angel Park is the last book in a trilogy. The first, Olive Park was excellent, a definite 5. The second, Crimson Park, was good but seemed to end before an actual denouement, which angered me because this story is good enough for me to want to know the ending, so I HAD to buy the 3rd, Angel Park, which was a disappointment. It was as if the author just kept adding more & more, detracting from the characters believability. I would like to meet some of these characters in a stand alone book that is less sensational, not as if written for a shallow action movie. This author can write with compassion & depth. I hope he roll.
Jake, Stan and Mallory continue together to handle those cases unsolved and neglected. After solving the Olive Park and Crown Park cases, the team, now vested and connected, returns to their glass cage.
Captain Caregivers assigns the trio a missing person case - that of a film producer, Stan Marten, missing only a few months. Confused by the timing of the case, only Mallory is familiar with th he dark nature of the productions, having seen every film. She leads Jake and Stan into a genre unfamiliar to them and joins them on the search.
When the MP turns up dead and dismembered, the case becomes somewhat addictive and convoluted. Meanwhile, the detectives attempt to wrap up loose ends from Olive and Crimson Park and offer emotional support to child victims Michael and Jesse Cooper.
When the cases collide, the keys to the mystery could lie in connections between child victims and child stars. Can the trio unravel the maze and identify those culpable , or will the clock run down on this investigation?
The third book in the Park Trilogy, Angel Park is the conclusion to the story of the Ongoing Investigation Division - an effort to devote manpower to cold cases and reallocate resources to work the cases to their natural conclusion. The department is made up of Detectives Stan Wyld and Jake Steiner, I.T. specialist, Mallory Dimante and newly acquired pet/police dog, Jake. Angel Park is the continuation of the OID's second case the disappearance of film director, James Marston.
I loved the first book and it's been steadily downhill ever since. The plot was messy, the characters were irritating and the romance was bizarre. Jake and Mallory's interactions were stilted and weird and they got weirder. When they finally had sex it was on the heels of him hitting on and sleeping with another woman and Mallory failing to tell him that woman is a prime suspect.
On top of that, Stan and Michael don't appear as much and it all got way too ridiculous. And the ending was super disappointing. I would suggest reading the first book, Olive Park, and stopping there unless or until, an editor reworks the final two books and restructures the narrative for a more cohesive story. There's definitely a gem of a story in the trilogy - but the execution in the last two books have let it down.
This book concludes the trilogy. The ending is sad and moving. For the most part I have thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and look forward to reading other books by CJ Booth. In this story however I was getting a little frustrated with sub arc of Michael and Jessica. I know in their way they are pivotal to the story but it was getting a little boring with the constant drive to get to Arizona, all of the grifting that Michael is able to do despite only being 14 years old sometimes stetches believe too far. The plot moves along with a good pace, the body count continues to rise and Jake, Stan and Mallory struggle to make sense of many of the clues they find (like a 10 year old girls prints being found in Marston's car). The series is a dark serial killer story that is certainly not for the faint hearted.

This was the third and final book in C.J. Booth's outstanding "Park" mystery series. Featuring the newly formed Sacramento PD's On-going Instigation Unit (cold cases) manned by veteran detectives Stan and his long time partner Jake along with young IT specialist Mallory, all who continue to hunt down the suspects responsible for the brutal killing of a famous horror film director. Little by little, putting the pieces of the puzzle together as well as working to save the lives of two abandoned kids caught up in this grim mystery, and using every ounce of their intuition they finally wrap up the case but at a tragic and unexpected cost. A good story throughout, this three book series is well worth reading.

This is the 3rd in the Park Trilogy. You know how you finished the last page of a book and wish it could go on, well this was one of them. I love all three books and each one were more and more exciting.
Mallory, Stan and Jake and another Jake are back. You never know what these three are going to take on next. They are still investigating the case where a Hollywood screenmaker had literally lost his head. This also brings back to characters you gotta love, M and Jessie. The book is supernatural, mystery, funny, all in one!
This has so many twists and turns and just clear out your day and make way for this series. I can't wait to continue on with these characters and hope we find out where M and Jessie are!
I've read the trilogy and enjoyed each book, especially after living in the greater Sacramento area where some of the locations are familiar. #1 (Olive Park) was the best, #2 Crimson Park left me wanting a better ending and this one isn't a stand-alone book because without reading at least one of the previous books it's lacking for character and time/place reference. However, this is a good mystery series, and even though the crimes are quite gruesome. It's been a while since I've read mystery and this series didn't disappoint.
This trilogy has been a ride. It didn't matter what other books I had on the go, as soon as I started one of these, it took over everything until I was done.. and this one was no exception.. I couldn't wait to see how this all wrapped up and damn you, CJ Booth, I bawled my eyes out, something that is incredible for a thriller/mystery trilogy. I'm off to find more of this author's work because I want more!
I only read this 3rd book in the series because I'd already purchased it. However, because the first 2 books left many questions unanswered, I was very annoyed with the author when I read this book. Finally, everything from the first 2 books, and this one, was wrapped up! There was some repetition, but the plot was mostly swift moving. Although I'd figured out some of it ahead of time, there were still a few surprises. The ending left me with mixed feelings of sadness and relief.
I like to wait until I finish a trilogy before I review it to make sure the second and third books are as good as the first. Without a doubt, each succeeding book surpassed the previous one as the tension and uncertainty of the ending mounted. C. J. Booth masterfully wove a tale of deceit and evil that was intriguing while still highlighting the humanity of those who sought justice for the victims.
Just finished this book, and my heart is still racing. This trilogy is indescribably outstanding because of the constant tension and suspense. Start reading on a Friday afternoon with a few nerve pills within reach. You'll need them. And don't go into work Monday so your blood pressure has time to get back to normal. Lovrd all 3 books!
Overall, the trilogy is worth reading if you like thrillers / mysteries - I enjoyed it. However, the audio narration was tough at times (1 male voice who does female voices always quite whiny / annoying) just a personal preference - but I would suggest reading these as opposed to listening on audio.
I am sorry this one ended. It's that good. Believable characters, suspense, everything that makes books worth reading. This is a story about a cold case department investigating the worst criminals imaginable. You won't want to put it down!
Booth has tricked me , in a good way I thought the story was about the children but it end up being abour the receive. It is a well put together story and full of compassion.
This is the last book in the series.I wish there were more.Things finally end.We find out who the mole is.The kids are STILL trying to get to Arizona. We lose a friend.Narration was excallent.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
The third book picks up where the second finished and follows the story of the children, Michael and Jessie, and the Detective team. The trilogy is wrapped up nicely but the plot twist seemed to come from nowhere. Its worth reading to know why the stuffed animal is so important.
Honestly, I had ZERO expectations when i started this trilogy and it turned out to be very exciting, great character development, and several twists. Some predictable, but honestly this is a clever, underrated series that i really enjoyed.
A trilogy, tying the lives together. Felt like I was there. An exceptional read. This was a read I couldn’t wait for the end but did not want it to end.
Suspenseful and twisty story with strong characters full of sass and bravery. People who do whatever is necessary so that their evil is conquered. Well done!
