Holidaze

Rate this book
Holidaze: the act of being so wrapped up in the joy and haze of the holiday magic, you mistake something casual for something much more.

Nola Brandy had one thing on her mind when she booked a two-week trip to a ski resort: write her book by any means necessary. And if that meant concocting a plan to make the stranger she was stuck with fall for her in order to get a story out of it, then so be it. Her plan was fool proof because Rubricks Anderson was far from her type. He was just collateral damage or at least that was all he was supposed to be.

The only thing that Bricks Anderson gave his time and attention to was his business. He’d made it a point to not get too close to anyone and women were no exception — even having sex with them had dropped off his radar. So when he lays eyes on the person he’s stuck in a car with for ten hours against his will, he’s conflicted about what to do about the instant attraction he has to her until she opens her mouth and he’s almost sure his body is out of its mind. Magnolia Brandy was too much of everything.

What starts out as a mutual dislike, quickly takes a turn for something neither Bricks or Nola were expecting and once secrets are revealed, the true question remains: was all of it just a holidaze or was it real?

4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If I’m being honest, Holidaze started off pretty slow for me. In the beginning, I just wasn't getting the wows and OMGs like everyone else. It took a good minute for me to really get into this book but, when I finally did, I absolutely loved it. I adored these characters. Nola AKA Magnolia, AKA Maggs is an Indie author who’s suffering from a serious case of writers block. At the advice of her Editor and BFF, she heads to the mountains to get her mojo back. Unfortunately for Nola, her trip doesn't go as planned when she misses her flight. Tinsley sends her cousin Bricks AKA Rubricks, AKA Anderson, AKA Cube to the rescue. What should’ve been an easy car ride with a stranger, turns into multiple hours of back and forth bickering with these two. Nola and Bricks did not take to each other at all. When Nola finds out her reservation has been canceled, Bricks generously offers her a room in his lodge. And, what does this heffa do in return?!!! She returns his generosity by immediately scheming on the man and using him as her muse to get content for her upcoming holiday novella. But, that quickly backfires when Nola realizes she’s actually attracted to Bricks. She comes to the realization that she’s unfairly judged this man because, he’s definitely not who she thought he was. Square where?!!! Nerd who?!!! Baby, Bricks was hiding all that contained BDE and tattooed biceps under those work slacks, button up shirts, and glasses. My guy Bricks is secretly attracted to Nola as well, but he’s still grieving the death of his wife so, finding a new love is the very last thing on his mind. These two were perfect for each other. Their chemistry was off the charts and the way they catered to each other was a whole romantic vibe. Bricks unknowingly jump starts Nola’s creative juices and got her writing back on track. Nola slowly but, surely, helped ease Bricks out of that bubble of grief he’s languished in for the last six years and brought him back to the land of the living. And just when you think they’re about to ride off to their HEA cuddled up on the couch in matching pajamas, drinking cups of marshmallows with a side of cocoa, and binge watching holiday movies, here comes Tinsley with her snitchin’ azz. Ohhhhhh, I wanted to fight that heffa! You'll have to read the book to find out what she did. Just know, Tinsley is officially in the I Wouldn’t Spit On That Bytch If She Was On Fire group. Nola may have forgiven her but, I sure as hell haven’t. It was touch and go there for a minute but, I really loved this book. I can easily see it being made into a TVOne movie special. The romance and holiday feels will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit.

Holidaze was such a wonderful and feel good romance. Despite it’s only 140 pages it really felt like a full novel all because of the characters Nola and Bricks. They had a story to tell and it all started with Nola sharing a ride with Bricks. Off the bat there was some lovely tension and banter between them.
What followed at the resort was just so damn good.

I totally got where Nola was coming from regarding Bricks and he blew my socks off as he did Nola’s panties. Fabulous steam and swoon worthy romance.
For a “short” story it was a really good one. I’m impressed and will definitely check out Bella Jay. A new to me author I will read more of for sure.

Ahhhh this story!! I didn’t want it to end. Oh my goodness I loved it!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 5 hearts…is that a rating!?! LOL I’m so glad I finished reading my other two books so I could get more into this one. Something about it I wanted to just read it alone. This story is now one of my favorites. Bricks aka Cube & Nola aka Magnolia 🥰 meet by chance when Nola misses her flight to a resort where she is suppose to relax and write her next book because she is a self publishing indie author and Bricks hasn’t left town just yet headed to the same resort for his app company’s retreat. The attraction the romance the fun the chemistry between them! ❤️🔥 A favorite!! I HIGHLY recommend this read Fa Sho 😂

This was such a cute story! I loved Magnolia and Cube! 🥰🥰 Magnolia was an Indie author and was suffering from major writers block. It has been more than 8months since her last hit novel was released and she’s feeling the pressure to deliver the perfect holiday novella. At the suggestion of her book editor Tinsley, she books a stay at a cabin to hopefully inspire her to bring a story that her readers have come to enjoy to life. After a mix up at the airport, Nola misses her flight. In true Tinsley fashion, she comes to the aid of Nola and suggests that she ride shares with her cousin Bricks since he is also headed to the same lodge for a company retreat. These two started out as oil and water but when they arrive to check in and Nola finds out that her room was cancelled by her ex on some get back ish, she’s forced to eat a few slices of humble pie and accept the offer to share lodging with Bricks. During their time together, attraction between the two begins to brew. Nola then comes up with the bright idea to make Bricks fall for her and use this to fuel her novel. Things go so amazingly well until her plan backfires in more ways than one. Bricks was already dealing with his own heartbreak so needless to say things blew up in Nola’s face in a major way. Nola you got some serious splainin tuh do. These two eventually got it together and I was all the way here for it. I really enjoyed this read and it definitely had me in the holiday spirit!

Open to New Love

This may just be my favorite Holiday book of the season. Bella Jay has yet to fail me.

Nola and Bricks meet after Nola misses her flight and needs a ride. They both happen to be going to the same ski town and Bricks is strong armed to help her out. Although Bricks is fine as wine, he's giving square energy instead of BDE, so it seems. After a long ride to the snowy paradise Nola can't wait to get away from him, but fate brings them together again. As they spend time together the layers and walls both of them have up are slowly peeled back. Nola quickly realizes that old saying you can't judge a book by its cover truly applies to Bricks. She has already committed herself to a plan that she realizes may not have the best outcome, but she's hoping for the best. This story is just seriously quietly beautiful.
Bricks had been a shell of himself over the past 6 years, diving into his work to avoid having to face his guilt, his grief, his loss. For the first time since his life changed he is starting to FEEL with a woman, with Nola. I was definitely on the fence about him at first, but when the BDE emerged baby it was HOT! His sexiness was loud and clear. Nola invoked the boss nature out of him in and out the bedroom and I loved that for them.
Nola, the way he described her was everything she was clearly a brown beauty serving thickness in all the right places. Nola selfishly thought she was going to leave their situation unscathed. She was sadly mistaken because as she got to know the sweet man Bricks (her Cube) was, she realized he might just be the man of her dreams. After the perfect night their situationship is harshly thrown off track. Lawd I hurt for them. Nola's "betrayal" proves to be too much and Bricks falls back and sums it up as them being in a Holidaze.
This is a short book but it's serving up the Holiday spirit, overcoming grief, finding new love, being vulnerable, and getting past hurt feelings. The ending was simple, sweet, and perfect. Loved it! It's been a minute, but adding Bricks to the bookbae list.

First read by this author, and won't be my last. I so enjoyed how Nola immediately formed an opinion about Bricks, to find out she was soooooo off base. Their back and forth was hysterical! In a short amount of time, they began to bring out the best of each other. Bricks, got her creative juices flowing, and Nola helped him discover the fun within himself that he had buried. Their chemistry was off the damn charts! Square???? Nope! Bricks was all man baby! Loved them together, and hope we see more of them in the future. Great read! 👍👍👍

Magnolia x Cube 🥰😍

Guys, have I been sleeping on Bella Jay? Cause she wrote heck out of this story. The story was AMAZING, literally from start to finish. And it wasn't a novella. I can't emphasize how great this story was. Cube was a glasses wearing tattooed nerd, smart, quiet, fine af with a beautiful loving heart of gold and a whole lotta BDE. Magnolia was this beautiful queen with big unruly type 3a hair with a big loving caring heart. (The way she was with Cube after his past came to light 🥰🥰)
Them together was pure absolute magic. Bella Jay I'm on to you sis, and the way you write those sex scenes 👏🏾👏🏾
This was really good. Filled with love, great friendships and Christmas. Highly recommend 🙃

Two strangers, forced to travel in a car for ten hours. Nola and Rubricks don't get off to a good start, in fact, they can't stand each other. When Nola comes up with the idea to get Rubricks to fall in love with her to get ideas for a great storyline, things backfire. There whirlwind romance was refreshing to read. Rubricks and Nola both learn a valuable lesson, don't judge a book by it's cover. This was my first read by this author and will not be my last. I loved this book!

Caught up in a Holidaze! Reading this was like watching a Hallmark movie. I can honestly see it becoming one one day, it was the perfect feel good holiday romance. I can see myself rereading ever year. Great Job!

Fun Holiday Story

Great story!!!! This was a fun book to read! Nola and Bricks riding in that car to the cabin was hilarious.😂 I love how Nola and Bricks kinda danced around each other with their attraction. Nola totally underestimated how sexy and low-key romantic Bricks was. Now Bricks really did need to allow himself to heal from the past and shout out to having good friends like Mel who forced him to look in the mirror and get himself together. And that very last scene, I sooooo loved how Bricks put his ultimate intention out there up front! This was a wonderful holiday read! 5 ⭐️ Stars!!!

Awww, this was so freakin good😍💕🔥🔥🔥

Queen Bella Jay gave us an amazing Christmas insta-love story💕. I didn't want their story to end, like where it's the wedding follow-up👀?
Cube and Magnolia were the perfect match made in opposites attract heaven, lbvvs. Nola set out a plan and 24 hours later that ish had backfired big time, lol. This holidaze gave me all the feels. I laughed, cried, fell in love and got extra excited😜💦🤣.
That damn Tinsley pissed me off😡, I can't stands a half way reading a book a*s reviewer that ish grinds my gears🙄😡. Then to do what she did after the fact😔. Family or no family, that book should've been read in its entirety.
Now that fine ol mean a*s Cube, I love a man in glasses😍😜. He was damaged in a way that you just wanted to wrap him in your love and remind him that live still exist and it doesn't make him a bad person for moving on. Their lil split because of that misunderstanding regarding her book, broke my heart, cause they was all in their bubble, in love, enjoying life and then they wasn't😢. When he showed up at her parents on Christmas Eve, I was cheering👏🏾 and then she poured her heart out to him, I shed some tears💕.
AMAZING READ🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Holidaze or Holiday Love

Nola and Bricks were that holiday hook up you needed. Forced together in a car, forced together in a house, he's uptight and all business, she's a writer needing an escape to finish her novella, but where's the inspiration? Their forced proximity becomes the inspiration, but Bricks turns out to be someone completely unexpected and the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas become more than either of them could've expected. There's bound to be fallout from the book once it's completed, but how deep will these two be when this happens?

A masterful work of holiday magic weaved together perfectly by Bella Jay. The dynamic of Nola and Bricks as well as their friends and family made this a favorite holiday read this year. Let's get a round of applause for Bricks the dirty talking Rubik's Cube. The spice was on point with this one.🔥🔥🔥🔥

I feel like I need to state for the record that I wanted to smack Nola upside the head in the beginning 🤣 but she grew on me (especially because she was self-aware). Bricks is a sweetheart who’s more than meets the eye & I love him.😍

Holidaze by Bella Jay is about writer Nola Brandy and app developer Bricks Anderson. Nola is 8 months into writers block when her best friend/ editor Tinsley recommends her a retreat to a ski resort. A series of mishaps force Nola and Bricks into each others orbit. Their first encounter does not go well, Nola thinks Bricks is a square and refuses to call him anything other than Cube and he retaliates by calling her my her government name Magnolia. Nola decides to use Bricks as her muse for her story using questionable tactics that backfire on her. Nola and Bricks have a lot of chemistry, although Bricks tries to fight it but he can’t help opening up to Nola. When he gives in, these two are explosive 🧨 whew🔥 This is a sweet winter holiday romance! Sometimes something
beautiful can come out of missed flights and canceled reservations.

This was such a cute holiday romance book!

I had all the holiday cabin feels. It was quick and straight to the point. I enjoyed the plot, thought it was really cute. Nola did annoy me in the beginning of the book, with the whole rudeness upon meeting Bricks, however she redeemed herself!

This was a forced proximity, grumpy MMC (kinda), Death of a spouse romance. Touched on dealing with traumas and healing from your past.

The third-act drama did frustrate me a little because the miscommunication could’ve been cleared up in a simple conversation!! (Tinsley !)

Overalll , I enjoyed it and can’t wait for Christmas to roll around next week!

Fave character: Bricks
Least Fave Character: Tinsley (Although I do understand her I just think she could’ve avoided the drama)
Fluff rating: 💕💕💕💕
Smut rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

A Christmas short. Small Town vibes.

Nola & Bricks.
The way she just changed this man’s name to Cube and he insisted on called her Magnolia.
I’m not sure how she decides on this plan of her but it worked and backfired at the same time. I’m leaning toward calling this a love at first sight, read it and let me know if you agree.
Never judge a book by a cover. Anderson was so much more that he initially presented to Magnolia. Unbeknownst to her she was the salve that he needed. And he was the man of her dreams.
The chemistry even unsettled them both but when they. come together is napalm.
I recommend this if you love a quick fire small town Christmas HEA. Oh and they have nasty sex, the good kind.

not playing fair

At this point, Bella ain’t playing fair! Bricks is the man of my dreams so Nola might just have to see me about him. From the start, their chemistry jumped off the page. As much as Nola and Bricks tried to fight their attraction to each other, they didn’t stand a chance. Not to mention, that man bricks...yeah he’s a nasty one: my favorite lol. Do yourself a favor and grab this, just remember Bricks belongs to me.

Am I the only person that thought Nola was childish or maybe bratty? Girl, as an author you had to know this was a bad plan. Thankfully she got some sense but she needed to grovel just a tad more to me 🤔 Anywho loved the banter and that the author shouted out indie authors. I thought that was a really nice touch. Oh and I tackles that granny knew what BDE means ma'am 😆

My girl knows how to write a holiday book okay! I am a hallmark movie kind of holiday reader, my typical go to is very cheesy, all the whimsy. Holiday gives whirlwind but has an emotional undertone that was done really well for me. I like it started off bantery—a little forced proximity—then the layers were peeled back kind of subtly which sounds odd considering it’s a novella lol. It didn’t just all hit you at once and I love that!

Definitely a great read to pick up this Christmas!

aggravating AF

I barley have the words for how I feel about this book. It had me pissed the first half, irritated for a quarter, and chessing the last quarter. And since I think books are supposed to make you feel all the things I means this one is a gem. So if you start to strongly dislike Nola when you start this, just pretend you’re Dory (just keep swimming/reading.)

Bricks is baeeeeeee 😍❤️

Bricks and Nola chemistry was heartfelt even though she judged him based off his looks lol. I loved everything about this storyline and was happy that there was some parts that was unexpected. Bricks went through a lot when it came to his past but Nola was able to get him out of this funk he was living in.

This book was really good and I highly recommend this holidaze book‼️

Magnolia & Cube

Normally, I read novella in a few hours, but this one took me days because the fmc was extremely unlikeable. I honestly couldn't stand Nola. Towards the end, like the last 10 pages, she finally started to grow on me. She doesn't deserve Bricks.

With that being said... when a book makes me feel a way, i know it's a good book!

This is another good one. What started out as Nola’s book idea turn into a true romance with Bricks, until Tinsley’s quick assumption. She pissed me off and Bricks pissed me off for not giving Nola a chance to explain. But in true Bella fashion…I had to hold on for the real ending. True love prevailed!!!
