The Latest Espionage, and Crime Action Thriller From Author of the “Adrian Hell Series”
“Hard To Kill” is the first book of a new series by the author, and from my personal response to it after reading it I predict the series will have a great future.
The story is gripping from the start, and I didn’t feel it really let go until the end, however my real rating of it is 4.6 Stars. Yes, I would love to tell you what that’s my “real rating” but if I did it would constitute a “spoiler”, and I do not do spoilers of any kind.
Suffice it to say the book is well worth reading at this price and had I not received it as an ARC book, I definitely would have purchased it
I do recommend this book most highly and I will definitely be following this new series by an outstanding author. Read the Author’s “Blurb” it really gives quite a bit of "decision making" information, and it is in my opinion quite accurate without "any spoilers".
As and ARC Reader, (Advanced Copy Reader) for author James P. Sumner I received a free copy of “The Hard Kill” in exchange for agreeing to write an “HONEST” review, I was neither offered, nor did I accept, any other consideration to influence my review. This is that honest review, and it is based solely upon my personal enjoyment of the book.
WOW! Hard To Kill is an explosive start to a new series! I LOVED it!
I love getting to know a new character, especially at the start of a new series as I know there will be more books to come. I can’t wait for book 2 in this series.
When we first meet Roach, he is in a coma, in a private hospital facility. It’s fairly obvious that this is no ordinary hospital, so I was instantly intrigued as to why I was being introduced to this man no-one seemed to know anything about and why he was where he was. When he wakes, he doesn’t remember anything about himself either and a doctor’s telephone call well, and truly, kicks the story off with an almighty bang.
I was as eager as Roach to find out who is, and why there are people seemingly wanting him dead.
When his memories are triggered all starts to fall in to place in his mind and he soon finds himself defending his own life and that of a loved one.
Roach isn’t your typical likable character, especially at the start as we know nothing about him. He definitely grew on me though! However, I certainly wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him. He knows how to sort the bad guys out, even though they often know how to hold their own too. The fight scenes are awesome throughout this book! Brutal, but brilliant! Roach reminds me of John Wick. He never comes out unscathed, which I think makes it massively more realistic. An easy fight isn’t very exciting either at the end of the day, is it?
I enjoyed the fact that Roach is a flawed character who might know his way around a gun and isn’t scared of taking a life when he needs to, but he still loves his family and is clearly not amused when someone threatens one of his own. This concern does cloud his judgement on occasion which I think is only natural. It’s a different ball game than just having himself to worry about.
I thought the scene with his mother was really sad.
There are twists and turns galore throughout this story and it is an easy book to lose yourself in. Full of suspense, and breathtaking action with an ending which left me wanting more.
I highly recommend to any thriller lovers among you. Or indeed if you have never read a thriller before, or don’t consider yourself a fan. This might just change your mind!
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. You better hang on to your hat when you start this book because it will move you along at breakneck speed. The characters here are a tad overdone in terms of physical process, but it is typical of the genre, so it wasn't distracting for me at all. This is one of those "beat 'em up, shoot 'em up" stories where you have to suspend disbelief in order to move on, but the action is so well-written that it's ok. If I had to come up with one criticism (and it's a minor one) there are references to 4-17 and some type of "event" and the strange nightmares Roach has. I know there are a couple of books in the GlobaTech world and they may have provided the explanation/clarification I needed. I read the first GlobaTech book several years ago but just vaguely remember it (the fault of an old memory, not a poor author.) I definitely recommend you check out the Roach series. I have a feeling it is going to be HOT!!!
Things to know upfront: This is the first book in a new series of the Adrian Hell/GlobaTech universe. If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend reading the other books first as they will provide you with the unique aspects of this universe. There is violence and adult language as well as suggestive sexual situations.
There is a certain amount of disbelief when awaking from a coma and not knowing who you are. That is only the beginning of the unpleasant surprises that await the man who goes by “Roach”.
Mr. Sumner does a wonderful job of sharing the plight of “Roach”. I think this book is significantly different yet at the same time fits in well with the other series in the universe of books.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily read an advance reader's copy of this book. Above are my honest opinions.
A fast action story by James P. Sumner for the start of his next series. “ROACH”. the main character, grabbed me from the first sentence and didn’t let go until the last one. I do love Sumner’s writing but this one seemed to somehow tell a great story as all the action is going on. The story is well fleshed out as are the characters, especially Roach! You get all the feels with this one. I was glued to my seat for the entire read. I can’t wait to see what happen to Roach in the next book. Definitely a five star, I expect nothing less from Sumner. I highly recommend this read!! Don’t miss it! I was provided an advance of this book for my honest review.
There were, at times, at the beginning, where I thought "OK, like a lot of other books where Good Guy with flaws, fights through being outnumbered to 'win the day' !!" This book 'swerves' through unsuspected, both physical and mental, obstacles!! I recommend this book highly !! Some advice though, don't try to "solve the puzzle" as much as to just "go along for the ride" !! Once I did that and stopped caring about 'who to blame' (Orion Industries, GlobaTech, Tristar, or something/someone else) it became a 'great page turner' into the early morning hours !! I especially enjoyed the very end that included 3 "twists" that set up "more to come" !! Thank You, James P. Sumner !!!
This half a book has no beginning but a very swift end I hope this the first and last book he e?very writes if you do want to continue writing read the collective works of people like David Baldacci Michael Connelly Stephen Leather they may give you a idea as to how a book has a beginning middle and end but not in the space of a few pages like yours
Roach wakes in a hospital in Cambodia without memory of the events that caused him to be there, or even who he is. That's one of the calmer portions of this 300-page story. Bullets start to fly and bodies start to drop quickly, right up to the end. Roach is a likeable hero and the story includes several good villains, which is essential in this type of story. Note it is a "part 1". According to the author's postscript the second part is due in May 2023. If I see it, I'll probably pick it up
Solid 4.5 rating that looks to get even stronger....
Waking up in a private hospital badly injured in a foreign country with no memory of who you are or how you came to be there.... Could it get worse? Well, yes, it certainly does when men come to kill him and gun down everyone else there. And, then his memories suddenly return in a flood....and it becomes even worse.... Death stalks his every step but he is indeed HARD TO KILL....
Willilam Roachford, Roach, wakes up from being in a coma. At one time he worked at Tristar Security. As his memory returns, he just wants to stay hidden. But he has something they want. When they threaten his family, he seeks revenge. This is one of the best novels I have ever read. There is a lot of action and you will not want to stop reading.
I've read all the Adrian Hell books and loved them. This one is good, but I feel like Roach needs a bit more attitude. He was great, but I feel he lacked a small amount of depth. I am comparing him to Adrian so it may not be fair. I don't want another Adrian, but a more in depth character for Roach. I will definitely read the sequel.
After being left for dead by his own team, Roach just wants to quit the violent life and disappear, however his old life had other ideas!! As he receives a mysterious package, his old team come a hunting and he then learns they are going after his sister. Good book as a new character joins the Adrian Hell and Globatech world.
William also known as roach is a mercenary killer. This is a very fast paced book area trigger, warning there is violence, death, and bloodshed. I found the plot of the book very good and the main character roach, a bad guy and a good guy. I recommend this book for all readers.
One of the authors best. Had me hooked from the get go, fast paced with a lovely twist at the end. More please James looking forward to where this story line goes next. If you like the Reacher and Mitch Rapp books you'll like this author.
The hero is kind of weak just lucky to be alive. The bad guys were more skillful than the hero?? Hero was beaten by a woman assassin X 2 wow. Far from Jack Reacher novels.
Seeing the other characters sides in the series. If you want to read it I suggest you start reading about Adrian Hell. He was the start of the series and these books co to ie the story.
Immediately draws the reader in to its intensity and won’t let go. This book has been an appendage since I started reading it yesterday. I look forward to more from this author.
