A travel guide gets involved in a murder in Dublin. It takes quite a while to get to the murder.

It happens during a guided tour. Almost none of the passengers are pleasant, but most of them get story arcs, which is nice. On the whole, just needs to be a little more exciting.

I was really looking forward to this one coming out as I've really enjoyed this series. I liked this one, but the plot seemed really close to one of previous books in the series with articles with made-up sources about several people who all happen to be on the same Irish tour.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Lana and Randy are off on a new Wanderlust Tours to Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day. Lana is joined on the tour by her friend Jeremy, he had been her editor when she worked at the Seattle Chronicle several years ago, and his wife Kitty, Patrick O’Toole, his son Paddy and daughter in law, Nina, Evelyn, and Devon Riley, Mitch Anders, traveling by himself, and Jeanie, also traveling alone. Sadly their first night they see a disgruntled former employee of Jeremy. A war of words has the men promising to destroy each other. What are the chances they would run into him at the first pub they visit?

After a day of sightseeing, they return to the pub and so does Guy. It seems he has a connection to other members of the Wanderlust Tour group. When he appears again the next night things go from bad to worse when Guy is killed and Jeremy is found with the body and is quickly arrested. Lana is unsure of what’s happening. The situation seems dire for Jeremy but she keeps the tour going and her eyes and ears open for any information pointing to another suspect. Again someone in her group could be a killer and she needs to put on her amateur sleuth cap in hopes of catching the real killer.

Carrying a little Irish blood in my body I was super excited for a virtual trip to Dublin. Seeing all the notable sights, filing up with all the delicious food, enjoying a pint or two, and researching family ancestors sounds like the ultimate vacation to me. Then you throw in a murder to investigate and my sleuthing self is even more excited.

With this sixth book in the series, the author serves up another wonderful location but that darn Lana is just a magnet for murder. Another call to her boss to send a lawyer and another murderer that could be a member of the group. People are not going to want to tour with her in the future and some places may not welcome her back. That being said this was another entertaining mystery from Jennifer S. Alderson.

The group of tourists is a very interesting group. A cranky octogenarian, his son in search of some roots, a 53-year-old man-hungry woman, a young couple on a much-needed vacation, a musical couple checking out the Irish music scene. They all bring their own flaws and idiosyncrasies to the table.

The mystery is well-plotted with some great twists. The victim has been in Dublin long enough to make enemies there but the weapon used for the murder points right back to the group touring with Lana and Randy. Lana’s technique to get to the truth is low-key and fun to follow.

I love the way the author takes readers along on these tours. Her delightful description of the pubs and landmarks like the Blarney Stone really paints pictures in our minds. It is easy to imagine us as just another Wanderlust tourist. Kissing the blarney stone is no easy task and getting there is a bit of an adventure. One of Lana’s group had an issue with the cleanliness of the stone itself. I found the visit to the cemetery and the place to search for ancestors quite appealing. The National Leprechaun Museum sounds fun too.

As always there is always a bit of humor sprinkled throughout the story that just adds to our reading pleasure.

Death by Leprechaun is a great addition to this series, another Perfect Escape. I look forward to the next mystery in this series. Death by Flamenco is set to be released on December 10.

I did like this story. I liked all the end imagery of Dublin, and that whole atmospheric field of Ireland during St. Patrick’s Day. It was fun to see all that travel that they did as explore the city. I did feel like it ride a little bit in the beginning because the other was setting up so many characters, a lot of motives, and just things leading up to the crime. Even though I understand why she did it, it just fell a little on the long side before we got into the action of the murder, and solving the crime. I picked up once they did get to that point and I enjoy that part of the story. Admittedly, I was it as engaged in the mystery as I have been in some cozy mysteries that I have read as of late, but it was still a solid one.

Lana is excited to be running her newest tour in Dublin with her old friend and previous boss, Jeremy and his wife, Kitty. Lana learns quickly that there is something going on with her tour group when they run in to Guy Smith, a reporter from Seattle who has relocated to Dublin. It seems that everyone on the tour has a bone to pick with Guy. Jeremy is arrested when Guy turns up dead and Lana is determined to prove him innocent.

This was another great one in the series. I devour these when they come out! I can't wait for the next one.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Death by Leprechaun by Jennifer S. Alderson is a marvelous mystery filled with history, genealogy, and the sights of Ireland.
It seems everyone on tour had a motive for killing Guy, but who had the opportunity?
Lana Hanson
Lana is our tour guide and sleuth. She and Randy are running the Wanderlust Tour of Ireland over the week of St Patrick's Day. Lana has changed since the last book I read, but she seems to be doing fine. Although, these tours all seem to have a murder around them. This time Lana is trying to keep her once boss and good friend Jeremy from going to jail for murdering Guy.

Lana has a boyfriend now and seems to be happy. Although, she can't seem to get a hold of him during this installment. I am looking forward to seeing how that whole relationship works out.
The Mystery
DEATH BY LEPRECHAUN CRWell, our victim is an ex-reporter from the states. I say ex, as he has been blacklisted since he faked his sources and didn't mind ruining lives to make a buck. Apparently, he still hasn't figured out what journalistic integrity means. Guy is now trying to ruin Jeremy's wife's name as revenge against Jeremy for getting him blacklisted in the states. However, Jeremy isn't the only one with a motive to kill Guy. Almost everyone on the Wanderlust Tour has a reason for taking Guy out.

I truly enjoyed the mystery. I did figure it out but not long before Lana did. The sights and bits of Irish history are fascinating. Ms. Alderson does such a fabulous job of showing us the atmosphere and controversies that are all part of experiencing Dublin.
Five Stars
My rating for Death by Leprechaun by Jennifer S. Alderson is five stars. I felt transported to Dublin, and the mystery kept me guessing. If you like to travel and mystery, I highly recommend this book and series.

Lana Hansen's latest travel assignment takes her and a group of tourists from the Emerald City of Seattle to the Emerald Isle of Ireland. She is excited to share the opportunity to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Dublin's pubs, explore local landmarks, and visit the picturesque Irish countryside with her fellow travelers. Among the guests on this tour is Jeremy Tartal, Lana's friend and former colleague from her days as a journalist.

The tour appears to be off to a good start given its lively mix of solo and married travelers, and Lana does her best to engage each tourist, smoothing the way for a harmonious experience for all. Despite her best efforts, the tour takes an unpleasant turn after Lana's friend Jeremy has an ugly public encounter with Guy Smith, a disgraced Seattle journalist who is now working for the Dublin Chronicle. When Guy's lifeless body is later found by Jeremy in the alleyway of the pub Lana's tour group is visiting, police arrest Jeremy for the crime. After all, the two have a history, and Guy held Jeremy personably responsible for exposing his unscrupulous reporting. Contrary to appearances, Lana knows the police have the wrong man--but if Jeremy is innocent, then who killed Guy?

Eager to clear Jeremy's name and set the tour back on track, Lana finds herself in investigative mode. She discovers that Guy was a truly obnoxious man whose newspaper articles ruined numerous solid reputations, leaving a long list of enemies in his wake. In fact, Guy's actions adversely affected the fates of several people in the tour group. Could one of them have evened the score by murder? Or is one of Guy's new coworkers the culprit?

Death by Leprechaun is an entertaining addition to the Travel Can Be Murder mystery series. As in the previous novels -- all of which can be read as stand-alones -- Jennifer S. Alderson creates a lively fictional cast of characters and an engaging plot set in a real-world vacation destination. The series showcases the author's talent as a cozy mystery writer and her love of travel. With Alderson as travel guide, readers experience an itinerary that is so richly accurate in detail that they can imagine themselves there. In these days of restricted travel, this series provides a welcome escape to faraway places. For all of these reasons, this is one of my most favorite cozy series, and I eagerly await the next story and destination.

I enjoyed this book, it is a great way to travel and solve a murder without being in danger or even leaving the comfort of your favourite chair. This is the second book in the series I have read (yes I know it is really book 6 and I have some catching up to do) but I can say each book seems to be a standalone adventure and can be read in any order, as the author gives some any background information you might need without going into to much much detail to annoy faith fans. I really enjoyed the fact that the main character is a tour guide, this gives the author opportunity to visit different places and describe local attractions for that country. I have never been to Ireland but living across the sea means I have heard many of the attractions mentioned. You are given a tour of Ireland during Saint Patrick day but the mystery is never far from Lana thoughts. It also worked well with all the suspects being part of the tour group, giving Lana plenty of time to question then and sort out the clues. The dead man wasn't well liked giving the reader plenty of suspects, reasons and motives to kill him. Off to decide with journey to go on next.
Lana friends Jeremy and Kitty, have left there girls with the grandparents to join Lana on a trip to Ireland. With a full itinerary and Saint Patrick day celebrations going on, the last thing Jeremy expected was to run into an ex work colleague who he got fired for slander or get into an argument with him. In doing so When he turns up dead and Jeremy is found standing over the body he is the police's only suspect. Lana knows her friend isn't involved and quickly the rest of the tour group all had a reason to want to see him dead. Can she sort out who would want him dead the most? The woman who come to Ireland to reconnect with only for him to reject? The man who lost his business because of the false accusations he printed? Or the want a be singer who lost millions when the dead man warned an embezzler a story was being printed, giving him time to escape? Lana will have to quick fast if she wants to help her friend and catch a killer, she might even need the luck of the Irish to solve it.

One of the things I love most about the Travel Can Be Murder series by Jennifer S. Alderson is the way it allows me to travel via book page to overseas destinations that are on my ‘wishful thinking’ bucket list. There are many obstacles that will keep trips such as the ones Lana leads from becoming a reality for me, but Alderson so skillfully makes the destination a supporting character that I feel a little bit as though I have traveled there by the time I’ve finished reading. Death by Leprechaun is no exception! Dublin’s local flavor and its popular tourist sites come alive on these pages with an affectionate and honest look at traveling there – murder notwithstanding haha

Speaking of murder, though, Alderson has once again crafted a bevy of possible suspects in the clients that make up poor Lana’s tour. From the characters you really hope didn’t do it to the one who grates on your last nerve, each of them have layers that go beyond what’s easily seen on the surface, giving the story dimension and giving the plot some teeth. (Side note – in this book, Jeanie reminded me of someone I used to run into periodically in Kentucky & I couldn’t help but be happy that having moved to Georgia means I won’t anymore – and if I do, then it’s time to move to a different state again haha)

Bottom Line: Travel vicariously to Dublin with the genuinely likable Lana and her tour group! Death By Leprechaun is just as nicely plotted as its predecessors in this series, with an eclectic mix of characters that keep readers invested in the outcome. A clever mystery, delightful setting, and engaging writing voice add to the enjoyment. A must-read for anyone who feels stuck at home or for the readers’ inner travel bug.

This is the sixth book of the cozy mystery series about Wanderlust Tours. In each book likeable tour guide, Lana Hansen, takes a group of American holiday makers to a different tourist destination. The clients have paid a substantial amount of money to have their days carefully scheduled to include all the important highlights and they often expect Lana and her assistant Randy to respond to their every whim. On this occasion their visit to Dublin just before St Patrick’s Day is full of fascinating detail and the colourful group on the tour include her old friend, Jeremy, from her days as a journalist. Some of the other guests cause problems, Patrick O’Toole constantly argues with his son Paddy, because he has no desire to look up his Irish roots, choosing instead to find somewhere for a cheering drink whenever possible. A single lady genealogist, Jeanie, constantly flirts with most of the men she encounters and monopolises the women in long conversations. Mitch, an easy-going musician, impresses them with his guitar playing alongside the local bands, while Evelyn and Devon Riley seem to be very unhappy.
Adding to the tension of their days is an encounter with Guy, a previous staff member of the Seattle Chronicle which Jeremy had edited. Not only is there bad feeling between these two men but several other members of the group have reason to hate Guy. So when Guy is suddenly murdered when they all had had the opportunity to kill him, Lana is amazed that the local police arrest Jeremy without looking for any other suspect. She is faced with the task of finding the real culprit while continuing to look after her clients.
The antics of some of the guests are often hilarious and I was especially interested in the genealogical investigations by some of the group. As in previous novels in this series I learnt a great deal about a place I have never visited.

I have found the series to be lots of fun. It features a spunky heroine who is at home in all the great cities in Europe, is great at her job, and takes the more than occasional murder in stride.

The thing I find most intriguing and also most inviting about this series is the fact that the murder takes place so late in the story that you almost forget that this is supposed to be a murder mystery. Instead, you get to meet all the characters, learn their secrets and affiliations, begin to develop feelings for them. It is very Agatha Christie like and very cool. The great characters added to the brilliant descriptions of European cities, tour stops, and culture makes the reader feel like they are taking part in the tour and gives them a personal stake in discovering whodunnit.

Death of Leprechaun is no exception. Lana has secured a spot on her current tour for dear friends of hers and she is really looking forward to touring Dublin. Unbeknownst to her, almost every member of the tour has a connection to a corrupt reporter who ends up dead. Everyone he has written about or even for has a motive to want him dead, but only Lana’s tour group had access to the murder weapon.

Beyond the search for the murderer, I have to admit my favorite part of this book is when Dottie and later Lana hang a lantern on the fact that guests in Lana’s tours always seem to turn up dead. Though I will give kudos for the switch up here in that the tour group is still suspect, but the victim, is an outsider.

Readers who enjoy travel fiction, epic character development, and clever mysteries will enjoy this series.

The writing was light and took you on a journey around Dublin. There were many different options as to who the murderer could be and I enjoyed exploring them all. You found things out as the main character did so you didn't feel as if you were constantly trying to catch up.

The chapters were fairly long with titles that gave hints as to what you were about to read next. You got a good chunk of the story before moving on. There was a lot of detail about the characters and their settings that the chapters managed to cover.

There was an interesting pace to the story. Each character was "investigated" and you were left wondering whether they were the murderer. You kept going round the characters, gradually building up the whole picture. This technique kept me guessing until the end.

There was a good flow to the chapters, and whilst lots of little bits of information kept coming to light, it all flowed together well.

The characters were excellent. I enjoyed gradually finding out about their past and how they all linked together. It was fascinating to see all the connections coming to light between strangers. Again this was a gradual process and kept throwing suspicion on each character in turn.

Lastly the settings. I loved being in Dublin. The settings felt well researched and you could easily picture the characters being there. As I mentioned above, it made me want to visit Dublin again.

Overall a nice story that fitted the bill for a St Patrick's Day themed book.

A very interesting story, especially for someone who has visited Dublin, Ireland, and has fond memories of many of the places mentioned in this book. The story itself involves a tour group from Seattle and their adventures while getting a guided tour of Dublin. The descriptions of the places they visit and the people on the tour are well developed. The one thing that kept me baffled was the title of the book, since I know that Leprechauns are fictional. Bot I won't spoil things for you by telling you how that death comes to be.

Each chapter of the book involves some particular activity on the group tour. And depending on what it is, different characters in the story are highlighted. This is a very good way to tell the story and let the reader get to know the people in the story as well as the many special places in Dublin. There are also interesting people of Dublin, too. One in particular who actually used to live in Seattle, but fled to Ireland after losing his last job in the Stated. And it turns out several of the people on the tour actually know him or know of him. This adds a new dynamic to the story because none of them like the man. So of course he is the one to be murdered and one of the tour leaders takes it upon herself to determine who it was that killed him.

satisfactory

There was nothing exceptional about this book. It’s an acceptable story, although there are many things in it that are just a little off. The characters aren’t all that realistic. The situation, murder on a tour, could be realistic except that a mix and match group almost all knowing one person and having had their lives devastated by him is just a little beyond belief. Descriptions of various places in Dublin sound like they’re straight out of a tour book. I must have fallen asleep on the trip from Dublin to County Cork, because Blarney Castle is halfway across the country from Dublin. Not that it’s a long drive mind you, I just missed the drive. Few errors are not enough to distract from the story, although someone writing about Ireland should know that for leaf clovers have nothing to do with that island. Additionally, or does not go with neither. To conclude, I don’t suspect I’ll be looking for another Alderson book anytime soon.

Wanderlust tour guide Lana Hansen is back and this time we are taken to the beautiful Emerald Isle - where even the luck of the Irish doesn't stop a murder on yet another of her tours! This time her old friend and colleague Jeremey stands accused of murder, the victim Guy has had plenty of time of time to make enemies in Dublin, but the murder weapon leads the police to Lana's tour guest though the suspects are pretty slim on this tour, Lana is just as determined as ever to prove her friends innocence.

Once again you will feel like you are part of the Wanderlust tour, soaking up sights, sounds and atmosphere of Ireland that is the one thing I loved the most about this series is the way  Alderson immerses the reader into the story, that combined with some colourful characters and murder make this a great cozy mystery series.

Loved this book! It is very well written with great characters who are well introduced and developed in the story. As a mystery, it was great as I didn't have the murderer figured out until the person was revealed by the author, Jennifer S Alderson. That is like icing on the cake, to keep you wondering who did it!!! There is a lot of wit, humor, drama, and much more all mixed in with it too!!! You will not want to put this one down once you have started it as you keep wondering what is going to happen with the different couples on the Ireland tour, or I should say people as there are 2 on the trip that are not a couple, just a pair of single people taking the tour. A very enjoyable read!!!

"Death by Leprechaun: A Saint Patrick's Day Murder in Dublin (Travel Can Be Murder Cozy Mystery #6)" by Jennifer S. Alderson has Lana guiding a group through Dublin, Ireland the week leading up to St. Patrick's Day. While sightseeing and pub hopping the group has lots of reasons to try to relax and enjoy the trip. Unfortunately, there's a reporter that seems to have rubbed a few of them wrong back home that somehow just happens to be in Dublin too.

One thing leads to another, and just short of half way in, we have our murder mystery. I was really hoping for a it was actually a local/co worker of the victim rather than one of the travelers. However, the culprit did end up being one of my main suspects.

St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin

This was a fun story set in Dublin, Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day. Since the main character is a tour guide, we got all the fun and interesting details of a tour of the area without actually doing the traveling. I loved the descriptions of Trinity College and the Long Room and the Book of Kells as well as the pubs and the streets of Dublin. Very well done.

As for the mystery, it was kind of obvious from the beginning who the body was going to be, but not necessarily who the killer was. There were a lot of suspects, so nicely done.

Overall, if you’re looking for a fun March cozy mystery read, pick this one up and enjoy a pint while reading.

Recommended.

2.5 Rounded Up

Wanderlust Tours is heading to Ireland over St. Patrick’s Day. Lana is leading a tour of a pretty diverse group of people, including her friends. But when a ‘local’ is found dead at the pub they were at, the group looks pretty suspicious, especially when it comes to light that most of the group had bad interactions with the victim. It’s up to Lana to prove them innocent.

It took almost half the book of background information and character-building to get to the mystery and action. Even after all that time spent on the characters, I still wasn’t very invested in them. The mystery itself was interesting yet seemed to have no effect on the characters. I should have DNFd, but I did enjoy the insight into Irish history and culture.

A great who-dunnit.

Tour guide Lana is hosting a group in Dublin for the St Patrick day celebrations, when a man is found dead outside the pub they are drinking at. One of the group is arrested, but Lana is convinced that he is innocent, so sets out to discover the real killer.
As in her previous books, the author takes the reader on a virtual tour of the location with vivid descriptions of the places they visited.
I always enjoy a cozy mystery, and as usual, this latest by Jennifer S. Anderson did not disappoint.

I was thrilled to discover this new to me author and this fun series. I enjoyed the murder mystery as well as hearing about all the interesting places the tour is visiting. I like the tour guide Lana Anderson a lot. She’s genuine. Her friends and tour clients are fun and quirky. I highly recommend this book and the series. It is always a challenge for me to solve a mystery and this was also one I couldn’t figure out. I visited Ireland many years ago and this was fun reading about the sights to visit and the restaurants and bars.

Tour guiding

Lana Hansen leads a tour to Dublin Ireland for her company. A number of her tourists were acquaintences of a reporter who writes fabricated stories. When the reporter is killed in Dublin one of Lans tourists is accused of his murder. How Lana finds the reak killer makes for a great story. The only issue I had with the book is I noticed two places where a word was left out of a sentence and I had to fix the sentence in my head while reading. Otherwise a very enjoyable book.

Truth or blarney?

The tour that Lana Hansen is leading through Ireland takes a wrong turn when a member of her group is arrested in a murder investigation. She is convinced he is innocent but the Garda won't release him unless she uncovers the real killer. Too many suspects and confusing clues make this a tricky case to solve.

This is a fun mystery. The Irish setting includes many facts about the country that makes it even more interesting. I received a fire copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Lana and Randy lead a tour to Ireland for St. Patrick's Day. A man who had been a reporter in Seattle and caused the financial downfall of two tour guests suddenly appears, causing great consternation among some of the guests. When the man is found dead behind a pub where the tour had been partying, the police take one of Lana's friends, Jeremy, into custody as a prime suspect. Did Jeremy kill the fellow, or is someone else to blame? Twists and turns.

For me traveling to Ireland would be a wonderful dream of mine. I like how in detail how the author describe the sights the tour group was able to see. Now about the murder, as I read, I was trying to figure out who had actually killed the man in the story. But with the tour guides help was able to see the reasoning behind who had done it. An innocent personwas claimed to have done it, but in the end the right person did go to prison.

I will never go on vacation with strangers. I thought the dolphin excursion on the cruise with strangers was bad. LOL

This was an interesting 'who done it. It does take a while to get to the murder, but you learn about all the suspects in that time and there are a bunch. I am not really sure I liked anyone though. Overall a good cozy read for Saint Patrick's Day.

Lovely St Patrick’s Day Treat

Always enjoy reading about travels to places where I’ve been. Jennifer brought wonderful remembrances of Ireland back for me in Death by Leprechaun. Not the part about the murder thankfully, but especially about the delightful time spent wandering all around castle grounds, touring distilleries and museums, and tasting the fine Guinness Stout. I may just need to read this EVERY St Patrick’s Day!
