He’s the youngest of seven children physically, emotionally, and verbally abused at the hands of their parents, but his sisters had it far worse. His father left him with a lifelong seizure disorder after inflicting blunt force trauma to his head, and his mother let her boyfriends physically abuse him, but her cruel words left him with emotional scars that were more damaging than anything else. He went out into this world on his own when he was just seventeen years old, with only a contact case and $20 to his name, educating himself, battling addiction, and becoming a vice president at one of the nation’s largest banks. He gained his sobriety when he was at the height of his career, a rising star, but lost his job when he turned whistleblower.

˃˃˃ His sobriety came at a price, and he lost most of his family, but he’s healthier now than he’s ever been, even if he’s lost all that he once held valuable. He’s had many setbacks in his life, but he hasn’t ever let that stop him and never made excuses for his challenges in life, ensuring everyone knows that if you mess with the bull, you’re going to get the horns.

‘If you mess with the bull, you’re going to get the horns.’

No life is without its fair share of problems. We all know the saying 'it's not the problems that determine your state, it's your attitude towards them', but this often seems much easier said than done. Inspiration is such an important factor in maintaining one's resolve. By reading stories, we know we are not alone and that within the human spirit lies the capacity to solve these problems.

Seven Broken Souls by Bull Durham was a heartbreaking but very inspirational read that will help all those who read it to persevere through life's challenges. It’s a book that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading it. It’s one of the most exceptional memoirs I’ve read in years. Very highly recommended.

Seven Broken Souls by Bull Durham is the story of tormented childhood by the abusive parents leading up to the making of a broken human. This memoir makes you flinch with the details and puts you in a place to understand how terrifying things can be. It is a book written with accumulated pain and much candour.

Bull bares his life in the book as he recalls growing up at his house with his siblings and horrible parents. His father gave him life-long seizures while his mother's boyfriend abused him. As Bull narrates his turmoil of being through the times of physical and emotional abuse, it's hard not to squirm because that's how bad it really was. I believe one's childhood, if not shaped well, can result in a fractured human. However, Bull proved me wrong as he didn't let his pain stop him from achieving bigger things, later in his life.

Bull and his siblings had a hard time living with their parents. Each of them had a reason to fall apart from the 'family' they had. As for Bull, he moved out of the 'safe' space of his parents' with merely 20 Dollars. He went on to work hard to provide himself with the education and then became a Vice President at one of the nations largest banks. This was until he turned a whistleblower. Bull shares that he lived with integrity despite all the setbacks. His story substantiates his argument very well.

Bull also talked about his love life that didn't run well. However, he tried his best to be better at everything he did. His persistence is praiseworthy and so is his resilience. By the end, he mentions that one has to learn to love themselves before loving someone else. And isn't it the ultimate truth? We really need to put emphasis on self-love. That's how we grow in the right way!

Go ahead picking up Seven Broken souls if you're in the right mental space.

This is my real life story about the parents that emotionally, verbally and physically abused me. They left me with lifelong physical and emotional scars that I would have to first recognize and then fight to overcome. I have no back up or safety net to rely on in life, its just me and always has been. When I turned 17, I started life on my own, paying my own way and making my own mistakes at my own peril. I worked extremely hard to put myself through high school, college and became a Vice President at one of the nations largest banks only to see my bosses and those above me with power retaliate against me time and time again before and after I was a whistle blower. I have tried to become better at everything I do from school, work, my health and own the mistakes I made, but I wont let anyone take my integrity away from me, I've worked too hard at it and for it. I'm healthier than I have ever been, but my family isn't and wont get the help they need. I have lost most of my family as well during this process of recovery. I had money, success, and dated some of the most beautiful women inside and out, but none of that made me happy until God started showing me I had to love myself before I could love anyone or anything else. I was in survival mode for almost 25 years and now I'm unleashing the bull that my grandfather always referred to me as. I have had multiple surgeries, hospital emergency room visits and therapists because of the damage my parents did, but I have never used these as an crutch. I haven't always done the right things in my personal life, but I have worked with the highest integrity in my professional career with my clients to ensure success for them and myself. This bank and HVAC retailer only care about money, keeping their secrets and will try to run over anyone that gets in their way. Both of these companies are about to learn if you mess with the bull you're going to get the horns!!!! Make no mistake a stagecoach and horses are no match for a bull!!!

Seven Broken Souls by Bull Durham is a memoir of Durham’s broken childhood.

This is heavy and sometimes hard to read. Durham’s parents were abusive to the children and to each other. There are certain details and experiences that made me want to pull away and stop reading, but I couldn’t stop.

The story starts slow, and I really loved the easy way the author wrote. It was like he was speaking to you specifically, but I did notice some grammatical errors that were strange and a little distracting. I also think certain segments could have been cut down to highlight the most important points and to speed up the pacing of the overall story.

I think there’s a lot of potential with Durham’s writing, and I feel like Seven Broken Souls would have been an easier read with more editing.

Here is a quote that stuck out to me:

"You’re not as important as my boyfriend."

If you’re in the right headspace to read something heavy, then this is worth checking out.

Seven Broken Souls was an interesting book that read like a conversational memoir. It serves as a solid reminder to anyone who has struggled in life or wasn't dealt the best of cards, that you do have choices and the ability to make changes in order to better yourself. A reminder that you ultimately have to do what's best for you and you only. Overall it was pretty motivational to see how Bull dealt with what he had been through and became better from it.

However, this book could use some serious editing. I'm not sure if this is just because it was an ARC and maybe not fully done, or if this was actually the final version, but almost every page had typos and grammatical errors that made it very difficult to read at times. It almost seemed as if this was a rough draft version as some lines even had strike throughs. Additionally, some sentences, paragraphs and topics were repeated multiple times which gave it an odd feel.

I do appreciate receiving an advanced copy of this book, so thank you to all who made the giveaway possible! I wish nothing but the best and continued success in life for Bull and hope that amends can be made with his siblings.

Amazingly woven like an interesting spell. I didn't thought this book will going to be this good. It was , as you might expect , engaging , a total different piece of art from every aspect.
It sets a very high bar for whatever he does that comes next.
