THE HEARTBREAK CAFE
A mysterious discovery on the steps of the local cafe divides the close-knit tourist town community of Lakeview, as everyone rallies round to try and figure out the mystery.
Hollywood actress Ruth is home in Lakeview for the summer. But has an ill-advised fling with a handsome co-star resulted in a seriously unplanned consequence?
Jess feels increasingly left out as the only non-mum amongst her friends. Terrified she might lose them altogether, she embarks on a supposedly cunning plan.
Nina has come to Lakeview to live with her estranged father, Patrick after a bad break-up. But will she ever dare tell him about the secret she is concealing?
One thing's for sure: someone knows more than they're telling. And in this town, the truth won't stay hidden forever...

THE LAST TO KNOW
Eve knows exactly what she wants. After nine years, two lovely kids together and a happy home in Lakeview, it's about time Liam made an honest woman of her. Eve's older sister Sam knows more than she should. She's always thought Eve was way too good for Liam. And she doesn't like the way his work takes him to Australia and away from his adoring family all too often. Meanwhile on the other side of the world, publisher Brooke knows nothing. Until one day, a mysterious manuscript arrives and promises to change her life forever. It seems someone doesn't want Brooke to be the last to know ...

THE GUEST LIST
When funny, kind and gorgeous Shane proposes, Cara is over the moon, and can't wait to share the news of their engagement with all their friends and family in Lakeview. Excitement, however, quickly turns to apprehension when it seems that everyone has a fixed idea of the perfect wedding and offers to 'help' with the planning. With tussles over the ceremony and the size of the guest list, sibling rivalry and insistent in-laws-to-be, Cara can see her vision of the big day being ripped to shreds.
So she and Shane determine to make a stand and do things their way. But when they announce their plans for a beach wedding on a beautiful Caribbean island, there is uproar. Threats are made, family secrets are revealed, and things turn decidedly stormy...

SUMMER AT THE HEARTBREAK CAFE
It's summer in Lakeview, and the community is getting ready for its busiest time of the year. The weather is warm, the days sunny and bright, and cafe owner Ella is looking forward to tidying up the patio area, dusting off the outdoor seating and welcoming the first of the summer tourists, whose arrival always manages to create some drama…

CHRISTMAS AT THE HEARTBREAK CAFE
The Heartbreak Cafe, situated in the picturesque Irish tourist village of Lakeview is a local institution, and owner Ella has run a thriving business since it first opened its doors. To honour all those happy years, Ella plans to host a huge Christmas party to thank the community for its support, and to bring all her loyal customers and staff together for a major celebration.
She has spent weeks preparing; baking the cafe’s all time-favourite treats, Christmas favourites like mince pies and mulled wine, and decorating the cafe’s interior in the finest festive garb. Everything is set for it to be an amazing celebration.
But Christmas week, only days before the party, Ella receives a devastating letter. Her landlord won’t be renewing her lease in the New Year, and her beloved cafe will have to close.
What will she tell her loyal customers? Will she have to start anew? Or is there any way Ella can save the business by harnessing support and convincing her landlord by Christmas that her cafe has a special place in Lakeview hearts and minds.

If you like VERY light reading, this is for you. While I enjoyed the books well enough, there’s nothing deep about the storylines or characters. In fact, the characters in the books are pretty one-dimensional, practically caricatures. This is fairytale stuff where the characters have beautiful epiphanies and transform into better people in a few weeks time and all ends well for everyone.

The author was so artless in her writing that the first pages of each book were literally nearly identical, word for word as she sets the stage of the town and cafe. I’ve never seen anything like it. Skilled authors know how to write each book in a series so they can stand alone while threading the storylines together. They don’t just copy-paste. I was embarrassed for the author when I read the exact same introduction three times.

The first book in particular is baby OBSESSED. Pretty much everyone is pregnant under less than ideal circumstances. There is glancing mention of the range of options (abortion, adoption) these women have about their pregnancies, but not really any meaningful exploration of that. I get it. The author has a point of view on this, which is totally fine. It’s just part of what made the stories pretty shallow.

It’s obvious from the first description of Nina’s father why he acts the way he does. This book was written in 2010 and it is ridiculous to believe any adult who doesn’t live in a cave wouldn’t understand that for what it is. That just didn’t ring true at all.

Finally, the proofreading and editing of this book is absolutely HORRENDOUS. The books are riddled with grammar, punctuation, and editing errors that are simply not explained by the disclaimer at the beginning of the book that spellings may differ from American English. It was just really sloppy work. I’ve never read a book with so many errors. I think I spent $1.99 for this book series. I’m glad I didn’t pay more.

This is only a review of the first book in the set - The Heartbreak Cafe. I got it from Amazon as a single book.

I enjoyed the book a lot, but actually - thinking it over - it was all about pregnancy! The characters and their stories were good, but it would have been better with some other subjects.

Heartbreak cafe books 1-3

Started off slow but by chapter 4, I was hooked. Interesting characters who were intertwined and the Cafe and owner were what held them together. Interesting stories with just enough twists and turns. Definitely a feel good series. No sex no violence, just good reading. Am getting the restrictive series
