Ten books and over 2000+ pages of magic and mayhem, action and humor fill this snarky urban fantasy boxed set.
Mythical creatures are real, and the world is just finding out.
Discovering that your neighbor was once an evil, blood-sucking fiend tends to bring property values down.
Katrina Darling’s only real friend has been murdered. And not just murdered—ritually sacrificed by a serial killer. Kat is sure more death will follow. She should know … she used to be the monster plunging the blade in.
Trouble is, after three hundred years of being a vampire, Kat has forgotten what it means to be human.
One thing she does remember is that friends matter.
Now she's determined to find whoever—or whatever—killed her friend before more victims surface. But just as the hunt begins, a mysterious young man discovers exactly what she was.
Kat has a decision to make: Run and keep her monstrous past hidden, or avenge her friend and save the city from a merciless serial killer.
I am quite behind with my reviews as I have had a long period of ill health. Reading has kept me going through this but I got behind with reviews so I am keeping them as brief but putting in what I can. This set of books was really good, I enjoyed reading them and they were well written.
This set of books was way to follow. Ramy knows her ancient God's and demons! Some are made up, some are not. I have only one niggling disappointment... When mentioning said mythical creatures, a living " Wall " seriously ! How did they manage to arrest a Wall??? It was brought in for questioning with a net thrown over it. Apart from that silly bit of writing, the rest was amusing to read, especially when Katrina was in Japan and the owner of the hotel has an unusual way of getting around haha...hilarious. Guys. It is humorous in a sarcastic way and light hearted. There are twists and turns and is well written and we'll worth the read ( approx 60 hours ) and worth the money. Recommended.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
this author does very nicely what few authors in this genre excel at in this time. the characters are tangible beings without ridiculous needs to ramble in expletives and action scenes are works of art rather than gore and misery. these characters are both intimidating and friendable. awe inspiring and could be your next door neighbor, well, mostly. this author has a cast of characters from the Pantheon of legend and myth that astounds me. some of the characters could be someone you'd see at a café, others are brought alive from the pages of a book on obscure mythology. my applause to the author's creativity in bringing each one to life in a way that, despite their appearance or personality, you could be having breakfast and wouldn't be surprised if they sit across the table from you at the cafe. Ramy Vance seems to have written this for the ability of narrator Candace Thaxton. while I didn't want the narration to end because I enjoyed the story so much, I also didn't want the book to end because I enjoyed her narration so much I forgot I wasn't right there in the middle of the action. I'll be looking for more by both this author and this narrator.
I loved premise and stories but I feel very conflicted over the whole love triangle thing. It's evolution was gut-churning and it's resolution too abrupt...and I hate love triangles as a plot device any time. There should have been a better evolution of feelings. However, the humor is fun and I really like Kat. I wish there was more character development for Egya and Dierdre and Justin. I feel the stories would have been better by exploring their POVs even if this made the books longer. The short story at the end was very frustrating. Kat often ruminates on stuff she learned from Aldie and also he mentions how she came alive while investigating his parents death but this story encompasses none of that as it seems Mary is the one who learned so much in the Unseelie court and truly investigated. If that had been it's own story I would have given it 2 stars. I look forward very much to more of Kat.
While I enjoyed this set, I couldn't help but be frustrated by the inconsistencies and the repetitions throughout. The Apu was introduced as Sal, then his name changed to Seth later on with no explanation, etc. The most infuriating part, tho, was the final novella, Shattered Vows. In all the books leading up to it shared bits and pieces of Aldie and Kat's relationship, such as the orchids not having even been planted yet and the wedding not even being anywhere close to happening until 53 years into the future and Kat having had a huge part in singlehandedly solving the murders, yet all of that was thrown out the window and that whole plot was rewritten as tho none of the other books existed. I did enjoy the premise, but so much was just left hanging or was too inconsistent for me.
Definitely one of those books that mixed A LOT of supernatural in 1 place
Lots going on, lost me at times with all of the countries and languages introduced, never mind the never-ending list of Others, but interesting nonetheless. Kat both irritated me and impressed me. On the one hand, selfless in trying to help save the world but also selfish in how she treated people. Yet, I wasn't happy with what happened to her at the end. And I am still trying to figure out what I missed with Egya. It was hinted at, then stated with no explanation on how they became a "couple". Not overly surprised, but did expect that there would have been something to show the progression rather than a leap.
Book 1 Mortality Bites: After 300 years of being a vampire Katrina Darling has to learn to be human again, but she isn't the only one struggling. See, the gods left, all of them. With a message saying bye. And left all the once immortal creatures that were once thought as myth behine with humans. Now four years later everyone is still trying to figure out how to live together. Katrina is pretending to be a normal human at the only mixed college, McGill, when the only friend she has is killed in some kind of ritual. And thanks to her not-normal-human-knowlege, Kat knows things aren't over. Despite wanting to "just be human" she must find the murderers (with some Others help) and save the day, without giving herself away too much.
No matter what your faith, this series will hold you glued to it's pages. Kat is an amazing, unorthodox heroine in a world adrift. Her hen to be an ordinary human girl is doomed from the start but she clings on to it right to the end. We met creatures from mythology and legend, some good, some bad but all with fantastic backgrounds, and all brought to life by amazing characterisation. The plotlines are strong and engaging, enough to keep you turning the pages long after you should have stopped. If you love fantasy new world's based on our own, these books are for you.
That was a fantastic read! More series should be assembled as a box set because binge-reading is the only proper way to devour the stories. Especially when they set up and start something like the GobeGods World! Damn, I did not expect this series to be so engaging and emotional! When a story or series makes me cry, then the author surely did something right. Amongst what was done right were the characters and plot. All of the characters were endearing and wholesome. The plot in every story was well constructed and needed to be read back to back. Overall, an excellent Phase 1 to what I hope will be many more phases to come!
Kat was easy to fall for while reading this series. She kicks butt and looks good doing so. She grows and develops as a person which oftentimes authors forget to do for their characters. I’d definitely recommend this series. The reason why I gave 4 stars is the lack of editing. The book/s could really stand to be looked over. In one book Justin mentions Kat not liking coffee and then all of a sudden she’s drinking it all the time. Just one example but my only complaint for these books!
Once you look past the repetition (I swear at one point I loathed the term "soul mate") the books are quite interesting. I was very surprised that the ending wasn't super quick, but instead well thought out. Read the series in about a week. Found myself wanting to pick up my kindle and read at any possible moment. Loved the differences in the characters, the unexpected twists and turns, and the overall build up. Zinnia is a character I think most young females can relate too, a bit odd and insecure. It was fun to watch her journey through a new world and become someone so different.
For post apocalyptic/fantasy/urban paranormal stories, this one sets the bar high for any coming after it. The heroine is a complete bad @$$. I don't want to give away spoilers so you'll have to read for yourself what I am talking about. They writing style and direction of character development is crucial to any good story but Ramy Vance wraps it up with world building into a lovely little package and serves it up with a side order of poutine. (Lol this will make sense once you read the books)
I found this series dark and sad, and I really, really don't like the ending. I got tired of all the GoneGodDamn this and that....after the first 10 times, we've got it! The GodGoneDamn gods are GONE already. The characters...mainly the types of Others....are hard, if not impossible to pronounce. I liked Kat, but thought Justin and Is a were shallow, as is Kat, but she has a little better storyline in the series. I won't be reading the second omnibus of the series. Wouldn't recommend.
Well, I read 4 of them and then got bored. I loved the idea behind the stories: the gods tell everyone "thanks for your time, but we're leaving, bye" and then everyone from humans to every mythological creature is just kinda smushed together to learn to coexist. There were a few inconsistencies that threw me (book 1: ghouls are now back to human! Book 2: we have to stop the ghouls!) that just kinda made it hard to keep going. But it's cute. It was a nice side book for a while.
Possibly the most irreverent fantasy that you will read this year. This fantasy includes the supposition that every fairy tale and every myth from every people of the earth really happened and what could occur when every one of those characters and monsters comes to life and attempts to form a society.
I was looking for a diversion from reality and found it in this series. Meant to stop reading after one, didn’t mange it...going to scour the shelves for the next part... Truth avatars, dead gods, Others of beauty and betrayal, anything you could want in a fantasy series in one place.
Wow, that was a hell of a series. I really loved Kat, quirks and all, I'm sad to say goodbye to this series and it's brilliant world building, storyline and characters. I loved all the crazy adventures they found themselves in and it was entertaining to be a part of it if even just in my head.
The books in this series are Amazing I did however have a lot of trouble with Amazon kindle unlimited. Even though I actually bought the book about halfway through it there was a glitch and the book wouldn't load on the screen so I had to finish it by loading it book by book. Not the authors fault though just an amazon issue.
I've already read this entire series when it was released individually and I still stand by my initial reaction.
Bloody good stuff... pardon the pun. But seriously, a kick-ass ex-vampire still fighting the dark beasties and winning is my kind of go-to action. The unexpected turn of events for romance was a bonus too.
Love this twisted universe. 10 books in bundle. Follow one 300 years old once vampire now human as she tries to be a good human again trying to do right by most, humans and others trying to survive in this world with only the magic that's in their body. Good premise, good read.
Wonderful. So much mythology to read about. The friendship bonds, the parental bonds, their is a lot to love about this series. There is the main story that surrounds Kat of her accepting her whole self but the adventures it takes for that to happen are imaginitive, myth filled and wonderful.
Interesting world within our world. What if all the Gods decided to leave one day? Suddenly all magic was gone and the previously immortal beings became human. How would they survive in our mundane world.
I enjoyed this series very much, the characters were were well written, the banter was enjoyable ,the story line moved right along and kept it interesting, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy.
This was a really enjoyable series. I loved the story line and I absolutely loved every character in this series. If you are a fan of this genre, then I highly recommend this series.
I truly enjoyed How this story evolves... The continuation pretty much follows what was left behind. There were a few inconsistencies, , but I figured out what really was being said. With that,, I hope you enjoy the series as much as I did.
What an inventive and exciting story! It was like nothing I have read before. The characters are unique, some likeable and some despicable. All over the top. I am excited to see what happens next.
