Pen Power

Y'all this sistah can really create magic with her pen! Every single book I read, is unique and a true page turner. As serious as this book was, on a sensitive issue in our world, the moments of laughter were truly hilarious! Kadon is a new book bae... if you like em a lil rough around the edges... he is da one! The victory for Cyra is absolutely beautifully written, filled with hope! Another great one Ms. Lewis. 🎊🎉🍾🥂

“I Guess We Could Never Be.”

The thing that I absolutely love about Charae Lewis is that she is always in a lane of her own. None of her storylines are the same. “ We Could Never Be” is no different. Kadon is a don in the Italian Mafia. Cyra is married and lives a life of seclusion. Shut off from the world, she yearns for something more. An unusual request from her husband leads her to Kadon’s front door and well… read it and find out.

I felt like this was an urban mafia/ Beauty and the Beast mashup type of tale with a cliffhanger ending that I did not see coming. It does center around some very heavy topics so definitely keep that in mind. There was so much going on in this book. The cast of characters were enjoyable to read about. Kadon and Cyra both have unresolved issues. I was rooting for Cyra the entire time and really wanted her to find happiness. Kadon, Kadon, Kadon. Such a morally gray character. I loved him, I loathed him. I empathized for him then I questioned his actions.

The pacing of “We Could Never Be” was just right. I really enjoyed the buildup as well as the slow burn romance elements. The ending threw me for a complete loop. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was so off the mark, lol. I cannot wait to see how this all plays out and the drama that is sure to follow. I can see this series going in so many different directions!

I’m speechless 😶

Kadon is such an alpha male, however, the one, Cyra quickly breaks down his defenses. He’s caught between following his heart or being loyal to his organization. It’s not an easy decision to make, but he does what he think is right at the time. His decision breaks Cyra! I can’t wait to see what happens! Rye though!? I need part 2 ASAP. I love reading Charae’s stories! She never disappoints.

Wow!!! Loved this story. I have never read a character like Mafia Don Kadon. This man is MEAN, MEAN, MEAN!!!! He is mean to everyone even his Nonna and his woman Cyra. I fell in love with his character anyway, Kadon has been added to one of my favorite Mafia Don. I enjoyed this 3 book series. It is well written, good storyline and the characters felt sooo real. I will definitely revisit this life journey of Kadon and Cyra. What a hidden gem!!!

Romance and Drama

Cyra had been through so much I’m happy to see her be free and gaining confidence in herself. Kadon had a painful past and it made him the man he is. Cyra and Kadon chemistry was strong. I was surprised Kadon made the decision that he did. I’m excited for part two.

Could Never

This was a good read. This storyline build up with complex characters set the tone for interesting read. The author's writing has evolved and it showed with the versatility of this plot. Two broken souls..Complex backgrounds..Forbidden love equals Chaotic drama and although everything wasn't executed yet, it's so much the author can do with this story and I can't wait to see what she got in the pipeline. I definitely didn't see that end coming.

Good read

Man that ending blew me away. Cyra couldn't catch a break. Just when I thought she had it here comes the bs. Kadon disappointed me but I understand his point to. Hopefully can end well in the next book. But he gone be salty when he see his homey and his girl. He gone be ready to blow a gasket.

I was so excited about this series because I love how the authors work matures with each project she puts out. I always praised her growth. I always give authors chances to grow before giving up completely on them. This author quickly became a favorite but this book brought me wayyyy back to when she first started out. I was so bored reading this. I’m like ok maybe she’s going for a slow burn this time but it lacked the momentum I needed to be completely enthused while reading this. I was not. I wanted it to get to the good part snd unfortunately the good part may be found in part 2. The ending was suppose to give that wow factor but I had predicted the end and it didn’t give what it was suppose to had gave. In a way I understand why this author chose to stop the book there. I have great confidence part 2 will be better. I think she wanted to split up the novel so it won’t be teen extensive but I think there was a lot of fluff. Boring boring fluff.
Let’s start with Kadon. Boring character, with mommy issues so he treats women like crap and everyone else too. His life revolves around the Italian Mob where he’s a Don. So as a favor to another Don he was asked to watch his Wife Cyra, who was a captive of her husband’s secret obsessions. When she confides in Kadon he sympathized with her saying his issuers kinda mirrored his. Him knowing that he dogged her out still to me. The way he spoke her like he owned her was baffling to me because he said he felt bad and wanted better for her but didn’t know how to be delicate with her seeing how broken she was. I don’t want to spoil the book but things weren’t connecting to me.
I would say read it but go in with the mind that this is just the beginning of things to come. I’ll update in part 2.

*throws kindle* 😭😩💀😫

I don’t know why I do this with every release.. every single one!

🔥

After Kadon becomes a Don he has an unusual request from one of his acquaintances to look after his his wife while he is out of town. Kadon accepts but what he did not expect was for him to fall for someone that is strictly off-limits. Cyra is really timid and innocent, she’s been sheltered, and is basically a prisoner. Kadon learns that said acquaintance is into human trafficking and now Kadon is conflicted. Under no circumstances is he willingly going to allow Cyra to return to her husband, right??

Cyra and Kadon have this intense chemistry, they both endured some of life’s most traumatic experiences and frankly, I wanted to hug them both. They were so broken but found peace with one another but they, “couldn’t be”. Them being a thing would never work in Kadon’s world. My heart was breaking because Cyra is finally coming into her own and the one person that she falls for hurts her. 😭

I wasn’t prepared to be so heavily invested in their love triangle but here we are, lol! While there was a ton of heavy topics addressed, I found myself rooting for Cyra and Kadon. Lost in the story is the war that is brewing between Kadon and the family from Uptown, Hailee and her dramatics, and Ennio once he finds out what is going on. There’s so many things brewing in the background that my head is still trying to wrap itself around it all. This book truly kept me on the edge of my seat and then for it to end the way that it did! I need to have a long talk with Charae. Just read the book! 🤣😩🙌🏾🙌🏾

We Could Never Be

Oh lawd. Kadon will have a fit once he realizes just who Cyra will now be spending her time with. Ennio was truly bitch made and I couldn't believe he'd be into more considering his position. Hailee really tried it and I didn't like her at all. She was going above and beyond to get a rise out of Kadon and Cyra and didn't realize the damage she's causing for herself. Kadon was a tough one but after realizing everything he'd been through I understood why. As mean as he was he actually had a sweet side to him and I appreciated him learning more about Cyra and providing her with the freedom she deserved. I am curious if there's any truth to what Antoni said about Kadon's dad. Man for once I wanted Kadon to get everything in order so he could be with Cyra instead of ultimately causing her more pain. I wonder how the driver didn't recognize who Rye was. I can't wait until everything comes together and Kadon realizes that although he and Cyra could never be, they both get some happiness. Rye may be the one to help him understand he needs to get his mind right.

Good read

This was a good read but it kind of dragged out to me. When it finally got to them getting together I kind of started skipping the pages until I got to the end. Now that ending got me want I got to read part 2, so I definitely will be waiting for it. I hope in the next part we start seeing more of Cyra bossing up and doing her own thing. That’s what I was waiting on the whole part 1, but it kind never happened, or should I say it was happening super slow, so I kind of lost interest. Overall this was a good story.

So much for a book bae...

This was a good story but not with enough character depth. There wasn't a connection with Cyra and Kadon and the details on both of their back stories seems incomplete. I get leaving room for improvement but Kadon the male lead was a bit much. The way he treated and spoke to a woman he knew had been through sexual and emotional trauma/torture didn't read for me. I will read the next book because like I said the storyline is interesting and I do hope that it will get better from here.

The last two sentences changed the whole damn game! Now I'm stuck waiting on part two 😩

I didn't really like Kadon. He was an asshole. Not the desirable asshole like book bae's typically are, but just straight asshole. What he experienced as a child and the world he was bred into makes who and how he is make sense, but I don't like him. I'm hoping part two will break him down some more, because I need some redeeming qualities.

I can't wait for the 2nd one to drop.

Plot twist!!!

Expect the unexpected! This book pulled me in, sucked me breathless and left me gasping for more! We could never be ... indeed the truth! I’m soooo distraught because I wanted Kadon to come back and mend Cyra’s aching heart. He built her up but then dropped her. Although I knew his reasoning, I still feel salty! Now that ending..... whoa! I love a good plot twist! I’m anxiously waiting for part 2 bc I know it’s about to get REAL!!!!

WOW.. GREAT READ

I love reading a Charae Lewis book and this one doesn't disappoint. Very well written, great storyline and character development. This book had my attention from beginning to end. And the fact that it deals with the mafia and the shifty undercover things going on is even more intriguing. Although Cyra has been through so much, I like the fact that she isn't too naive and can see when a person is trying to play games with her. Kadon is a piece of work and set in his ways but will he realize the mistake he made in not taking a chance on love. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing if Cyra will boss up and take control of her life. Had my suspicions about the mystery guy from the boardwalk and that ending confirmed it. How will things play out in part 2 with the reveal of who Cyra's mystery guy is.

Don verses Don!

Madonna is a Don with the Italian Mafia passed down from his dad, fine, money and single. With Rhyeem his cousin at his side, they conquer the south side. When Ennio a Don from the family ask Kadon to keep his wife Cyra safe, Kadon finally agreed. Not knowing what to expect Cyra enters a strangers home, links up with his Nona and learns to hold her head up. Cyra is meek, afraid of her own shadow and brainwashed by Ennio. Kadon finds out more than he wants to and Cyra is his peace. Knowing he cannot break rules Kadon sets Cyra up in her own place, money and disappears;however, meeting a stranger one day at the pier , while getting something to eat, a few months later Cyra meets him again. Woah!

Most stories I've read usually give away the plot twist pretty early on, but I did not see this one coming! I'm excited to see what becomes of that ending!! I will say I did not care for Kadon"s treatment of Cyra at times. It's like he forgot what she dealt with before him or simply didn't care. Overall good storyline and plot. I do wish the characters physical features were explained a bit more in the beginning. I wasn't really sure what they looked like until about 50% into the book so it made it hard to picture them in my mind. I just hope it doesn't get too messy in part 2. It's hard to come back from lines that are crossed so I hope that's not the case.

I wasn't sure if I was going to finish reading this book once Cyra's situation was revealed, but I kept going, and that ended up being a great decision. The characters were well developed; both experiencing emotional turmoil. There were a couple of grammatical errors -:( but it did little to take away from the story, but it would be nice to have it corrected/updated. I am sure the next book will delve into how they heal from their respective issues to find their footing and make room for a HEA that is sure to come!

This was an enjoyable read overall. I think the story started off slow, but it did eventually pick up. I didn’t initially feel a strong connection between Kadon and Cyra. I am not surprised that there will be a part 2. There are other things going on in this story that had not been resolved yet. The cliffhanger gave me an OMG moment. I can’t wait to read part 2. Good job, Charae Lewis!
