Discover the remarkable life of Paul the Apostle... Free BONUS Inside! It is a verifiable fact that the Apostle Paul was one of the most prolific writers of the New Testament, making him one of the founders of the Christian religion that we know today. Although he came on the scene after Jesus Christ, it could be argued that Saint Paul played the second biggest role in the history of Christianity. This is rather fascinating considering the fact that he began his career as one of the biggest persecutors of the faith. Paul was a devout follower of Judaism and initially considered the Christians a heretical sect that needed to be stamped out. All of that changed when he made a trip to the ancient Syrian city of Damascus in the early first century. This book follows the life of Paul the Apostle and the ultimate transformation that he experienced. A cursory reading of the New Testament can tell you 98% of what is given in this short read. There are several moments where “allegedly” and “supposed” are used, casting doubt on the validity of the Bible’s claims.
Although not one of the original 12 apostles, Paul was an essential leader of the early Church. I'd always wondered how Paul had time to write so many letters to different groups and regions of the Church, and this book explains how he had the time.
Paul traveled alone much of the time. So, the apostles spread the religion by going to various parts of the world and preaching. Paul lived longer than I'd imagined. Traveling in that day and time must have been difficult, but the apostles did it for many years. This story kept my attention throughout the ebook. Overall score = 4.5 stars.
These books are mostly about historical events or historical persons in a very concise way (you can read it within an hour).
This one is about Saint Paul, one of the most important Apostles in Christian early Church, although not a member of the original 12 Apostles. He was the first Christian missionary, and thanks to him the Christianity spread so quickly throughout the Roman Empire.
He was Jew from Tarsus in nowadays Turkey and from well off family. He was fluent in Greek and Latin and was a Roman citizen. The interesting fact is that he like all wealthy Jews and scholars in his youth he had to learn a trade before he became a scholar or some other white-collar bureaucrat. So Saint Paul learned a trade how to make tents, which was a very prestigious business. That helped him later in missionary work not to be a burden for people, which gave im roof.

For an hourly history for me, a non christian, this was an informative book. I read it as I was watching a Teaching Company course on the New Testament and Paul was mentioned. What I learned was that Paul being credited with spreading the faith was supplemented by his reaching out beyond the Jewish community which has been expecting a messiah. And that he converted and that, I didn't know, he was not one of the 12 apostles. That his letters are a key component of the documents of christianity - not part of the primary four gospils It was read slowly - easy to leave off and pick up - good format for waiting or non-driving commuting
A well written summary of the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul. Born in Tarsus, Saul was a Jew who became a pharisee and who persecuted the Christian who were springing up everywhere. But on the road to Damascus, Saul was blinded by a bright light and heard the voice of Jesus tell him that he was to turn his life around. His companions took Paul on into Damascus where Barnabas, who also had a vision from God, healed Paul's blindness. For the rest of his life Paul traveled widely and wherever he went he boldly proclaimed the Gospel of Christianity.
Dotes in some highlights, but leaves too much untouched
I realize that this is an hourly history, but reading this seems more like reading a Cliff Notes of the life of Saint Paul. What is presented enables the reader to glean some pertinent information pertaining a miniscule event in Paul's life and ministry. Maybe there could be less of some selfindulgent verbiage and more of the actual Star of the book's life. Just a thought.
It could be said that there has always been resistance to the Christian teachings. Some people feel threatened by the message of the scriptures. Paul certainly encountered much resistance to his messages. A good introduction to the life of the apostle Paul. Well worth the time to read this biography.
Good narrative in a concise description of an early Christian time. There is a good room for more details about Paul life especially about his conversion and epistles. What's about his relationship with Peter the first pope?
Good brief and concise biography of a Roman citizen and former Pharisee. This is a good account of an incredible life.
I was very surprised to read this very interesting version of Paul of Tarsus. It sure made rethink what I thought I knew about him. As usual enough words to get you interested and want to read in one session. Thanks Hourly History. A fan.
Some interesting points made, but often the author “softens” the definite by using terms like “alleged”. This seems to be the writing of a skeptic. Also it states that Paul in one instance switched from Greek to Hebrew, when in Scripture it states clearly he switched from Greek to Aramaic. These inaccuracies calls into question the entire writing research.
The times were turbulent, persecution was around every corner. Christianity was in its infantile stage, but this Apostle Paul had his marching orders from Gods own Son and he stayed faithful to the very end, if only all who call themselves Christian were as faithful as he.
An excellent essay of the man who contributed greatly to the spreading of the Christian faith in the Mediterranean Sea area. The essay highlights Paul's Christian conversion and the struggles and dangers he had in spreading his faith to others.
A short history of the life of the Apostle Paul. Well worth the time to learn of a remarkable figure in the story of Christianity. Will make you want to learn more.
Brief, but that's the idea. It helped getting Paul's travel "all in one place". Some good insights into Paul's calling and obedience to mission. Left me wanting more, and that's a good thing. Thanks !
Hourly History once again gives a concise biography this one of the well known Biblical / Historical figure Paul even though most of this information is well known the presentation is very enjoyable
I was truly surprised by the fact that it was truly a very well written and true in nearly every single thing I am an authority on the subject many thanks to the author GBWALMSLEY
I enjoyed this account t of Paul's ministry as it is concise and easy to follow. An excellent overview if you want to understand the basics of Paul's ministry without going into unnecessary details.
This was a interesting read for me. I had always heard of the name Paul but really did not know of his work and leadership in the beginning of the Christian church
